Another amazing gem in Yonkers. Carlos has been there since I was a kid and the food is amazing. They have a sliced and seasoned steak which is better than some steak places. Truly horrible service. Came in a time ago to get one slice of pizza. Two girls at the counter were speaking to each other and taking an order over the phone. No greeting, no asking me "what would I like". I stood there until they were going to ask, but of course they weren't. I saw the cool in the back taking long sausages out of the oven. One FELL OUT ONTO THE FLOOR. He picked it up, put it back onto the tray, and went to start his cook. Disgusted and annoyed, I walked out. Never in my life have I said "I am never going back", but truly I will never go back to this place. I ate here when indoor dining was allowed and have been craving it ever since! I was blown away how great my dishes were in an unassuming family restaurant. The gnocchi bolognese was beyond delicious, in fact, it ruined me to ever order bolognese from somewhere else because it just won't be quite like this dish! It had a wonderful creaminess that made the sauce nice and rich with a perfectly textured gnocchi. We ordered a reasonably priced bottle of Montepulciano D'Abruzzo and received great service from our waitress. For the main course, we tried the shell steak special with garlic potatoes. Another big score! The shell steak was an ample amount for two people and very tender with an interesting little crusted Italian breadcrumb topping (just a touch) to give you a little texture with it. Very disappointed in a few dishes we ordered. The noodles in the "homemade" lasagna were uncooked, dense and chewy. It seemed like the no boil noodles were used, but there were so many noodles layered on top of each other with nothing in between them they couldn't cook. Little to no meat was found in any layer in 2 separate entrees. Garden salad was a large order of white iceberg lettuce with chunks of the heart of the head of lettuce. There were about 4 cherry tomatoes and a few small pieces of red onion for a large salad meant to feed 3-4. Kids meatball texture was odd. More of a meat purée ball than a traditional hand packed meatball. Texture made it feel uncooked when eating even though it wasn't. Overall, not a good experience unfortunately when so much of these are easy fixes. read more

TL;DR Waited close to an hour and a half for seating. Waited an hour for food (pasta). After the hour of waiting for dinner, when the food was finally brought out, one of the members of our group was told that his dish wasn't available...an hour after he ordered it. The manager came out and said "I'll make it up to you." The substitute late dish came 15 minutes later (penne vodka, no meat). We were charged for the whole meal and offered nothing to make up for the poor experience. No toilet paper in the bathroom. Almost slipped on a huge spill by the kitchen. At least our waitress was nice. I don't know that I've ever had a restaurant experience worse than what happened to my group tonight at Carlos'. I will say, at the very least, when the food did come out it was decent. I went to Carlos with a group of 6 on a Saturday night with a full understanding that we'd be in for a wait. The hostess told us that she was saving two tables for our party that she would join together, which was great. Very shortly after that we realized that she clearly had no intention of keeping her promise and another group was seated at our "promised" table. With that, we had slightly over an hour wait, watching group after group after group get seated before us. All the same we knew we had a large group and were understanding. So, an hour and a half later we finally got seated and placed our order. The food took an hour to arrive. Four orders of pasta, one steak, and one chicken parmigiana. When the food finally did come, one member of our party was notified that his order was actually not available...an hour after he ordered it. So he substituted it for Penne Vodka, no additions, just penne and the sauce. The manager came up to us five minutes later and said "I'll make it up to you." The dish finally came out 10 minutes later, while the the rest of us were finishing up. Despite the "I'll make it up to you," we were charged for the entire meal and offered nothing to make up for the terrible experience. It was one of those nights that was so bad it was laughable. At the end of the meal, I went to use the restroom. No toilet paper. As I came out of the restroom, I narrowly avoided slipping on a massive spill by the kitchen. At the very least, the staff was kind enough to direct me around the spill. Delivery review only: Ordered a White Pizza and a Chicken Parm hero on Garlic Bread. (Via GrubHUB) Delivery was prompt, on a Friday night it only took them 42 minutes (I timed them). The pizza was better than most Yonkers pizzerias. It had a good crust and the cheese wasn't bland (common issue with most white pies). The hero was huge, good sauce, healthy amount of chicken, decent cheese. The garlic bread garlic was a little too strong almost raw/undercooked tasting. I met my friend a Carlos last night. it was our first time there. at first I want impressed. It is a total hole in the wall and there was a wait and the restaurant is so small there is no place to stand while waiting without getting in someone's way lol! Anyway what a great surprise was ahead of us! It didn't start of perfect...the bread was awful...then the magic happened. We got a great waitress named Charesa and she was amazing. she recommended the dishes that were most popular and she was so joyful and accommodating. She recommended one of the specials that I got. the filet of sole. I can't tell you how amazing it was! Cooked to perfection! it was so tender you could cut through the filet with a fork. my friend had a delicious pasta dishes. So if you don't mind no ambiance, tight space and alot of noise (almost impossible to talk) but great food and service I highly recommend! read more

I really hate writing bad reviews but it's beyond aggravating when you're starving, your kids are starving and you call to check on your order only to be lied to. I placed an order at 7:50 tonight, the girl said it'd be here in a half hour. It wasn't. I called to check on it after another 15 mins and the 'guy was on his way,' 20 minutes later my husband called to check on it again and was told it'd be here in 5 minutes. It is now 9:30pm and the guy literally just called. Needless to say I didn't answer. Unfortunately, this will be my last order from Carlo's. The food is good, and the portions are generous. HOWEVER, that really doesn't mean much if the service is terrible. Where do you start? How about when you enter Carlo's restaurant located at 668 Tuckahoe Rd., Yonkers. You will notice that the staff at Carlo's understands the issue of Covid-19. They are busy taking every precaution by always sanitizing tables, chairs, etc.. Carlos also utilizes moveable partitions in between tables. It has paper menus, plastic cups for red pepper, olive oil, etc. and further, Carlos gives you (get this) a perfect size paper bag to utilize for your face mask. Carlo's has been a staple of Yonkers for many decades and doesn't show any signs of slowing thanks to its top-quality food and modest prices. The portions are large, as is suggested by the traditional nature of the restaurant, but the restaurant is typically crowded on nights and evenings during the weekend. That said, it's worth the wait. Just be prepared to wait if you have a group of 3 or more. Complimentary piping-hot bread fresh from the oven, house salads with fresh mozzarella cheese, as well as their Chicken Parmigiana and Sliced Steak with seasoned onions and mushrooms are the definite stand-outs. We just came back from another wonderful night at Carlos. We always have the lobster ravioli and hot n sweet pepper pork chops. The chops are always huge and juicy. The lobster ravioli is always tasty and made fresh. The warm bread that is served while you wait is made fresh and it's to die for. For apps we usually get the mussels and calamari which are also very tasty. We've also ordered a few other items in the past which are good like the pork braciole and chicken parm. Great food & pizza, but pretty terrible service. I stick to ordering take out from here because I've had bad experiences with the waitresses, similar to many fellow Yelpers. They definitely talk about the customers and actively ignore them, their food and their needs. Not cool. But man, the food is great. They make a great thin crust pizza, it's definitely my favorite regular pie in Yonkers. The penne vodka is fantastic, and once I had a great special dish of broccoli rabe ravioli. I'd love to try the lobster ravioli soon. Chicken parm is good too, but the chicken is usually dry.
