I sold my Mercedes Benz and received a deceit price for it. Service was initially timely and efficient. I was very satisfied.

I bought a used Tesla from this location and the experience was not a good one. The salesman helping us was not knowledgeable with the process and we still don't have our plates. He was not pushy but seemed to lack the know-how. During the signing, he wanted us to buy car insurance for the Tesla on the spot to drive home (which we did, although we carry insurance already which would've covered it), I had to create a carmax account to input information eventhough we did it prior to coming in(he wanted an "updated info"), and he didn't know anything about Teslas or setting up an account with the company. The car was nearly drained of battery. Him and along with two other employees couldn't figure out how to charge our car for us to get home. We called Tesla and were told the original owner had to release the car from their account so that we could take over but they didn't know who to contact for that info. Eventually, someone told him to charge it in the back since they had a slow charger. After we signed for the car, we had to leave for a few hours while the Tesla charged. When we went to pick it up near closing time, it barely went up in percentage. After we left the dealership, we pulled over to two random charging stations and learned that we didn't need an account to charge. After about an hour, we reached at least 80% to get us home which was two hours away. Tesla eventually transferred the car to us after two days. Additionally, we were also missing a card key. The salesman filled out the paperwork to get one but it never came. When we called him, he said that Carmax couldn't purchase it and told us to do it on the app then ask for a reimbursement from Carmax. We did just that and the reimbursement check never came. We called back about two weeks later and spoke with someone from the office. She told us to sign a form over email and to send proof of purchase and finally the check was mailed to us. During this time, we also didn't get our license plate! I asked her about that also and she told me to wait until our temp plates were up and if we still didn't get it then go to DMV and ask for a replacement. I called DMV and were told it was mailed to Carmax's third party car registration company? DMV said it was done a couple weeks after we bought the car. We told the Carmax lady over the phone about this too and she said to just wait. It's now been almost 3 months later and the temp plate's about to expire. We went ahead and requested a replacement from the DMV ourselves and we're still waiting for it to come in. Carmax seems to be filled with incompetent employees and they only care about your money. Once they get it, you're on your own. We bought another car from them years ago and the experience wasn't great but it wasn't this bad. I'm not sure if we'll ever buy another car from them again. read more

I couldn't have been more pleased or had a more enjoyable time. The fact that they have a no hassle price on every vehicle takes out the uncomfortable feelings immediately. And allows you to focus on the right car or tuck. I had an amazing sales associate, his name is Daren, ask for him! He guided me from a LONG list of possible cars down to my new Kia and I love it! He helped me find the car, price, and interest rate that I wanted and by the end of if I felt like we were friends. I would 100% recommend anyone to this Carmax location. Recently, I relocated back to Northern California for my job and at the time of the move I did not have my own vehicle. I live in a pretty remote area and although I'm only 6 miles from the job- there is no access to public transportation. So, for the first two months of working- I literally took UBER, LYFT, a car pool or vehicle rentals just to get to work. It did the trick but it blew through any budget I had for saving for a car. A colleague suggested Car Max and I was slightly hesitant to apply online because I was working on improving my credit score (I was in the low 600's at the time of application) but at some point I just decided to go for it. Not only was I approved within 24 hours for financing- I was approved for the vehicle I wanted with NO MONEY DOWN! Say what now? My sales consultant walked me through every step of the process over the phone, was able to locate the vehicle I wanted and I was able to pick the car up in less than a week just like that. I purchased a 2015 Nissan Rogue S- it had one previous owner and less than 20K miles on it- and the sticker price was $18K. My payments are affordable and I also purchased the gap insurance and the car repair piece through Car Max. They've come highly recommended and I know why now. The process was easy and simple with no hassle and the song and dance you get when going through a traditional dealer. I just wish I had done this sooner. If I could give zero stars I would. Sneaky sneaky BS!! Bought car in July. I wasn't told that the registration was 7 months expired at time of purchase. Just got my registration in the mail yesterday. DMV shows I paid $400+ to bring the registration up to date unbeknownst to me! CarMax will sell you a car with delinquent registration and not tell you. They have no legal obligation to tell you. They have no moral obligation to tell you. They have no business ethics to tell you. Spoke to the GM. Wanted to see if they would refund my $400, flat out told no. Asked if they could at least meet me in the middle, told no. Be very aware of this sneaky business practice. Just either verify the registration is up to date or negotiate that CarMax pays the registration. Lost me and my family as customers. OMG. I will go to Carmax for every vehicle I purchase in the future. My salesman, Michael RICO (I was told there are several Michael's), was AMAZING! He didn't try to oversell or go against anything I did or didn't want. He was honest and really eager to make sure I purchased exactly what I needed, and was always available for my million questions- putting up with how impatient I was. He accommodated my late work schedule because I was that annoying buyer who came in near closing time. I couldn't be more impressed by his service. Overall, the experience was so smooth and stress free. My car transferred in a week and I'm so happy for this purchase. All the other employees were pleasant and friendly, they really take pride in their customer service. It took only an hour and half to complete the paperwork (yeah, you read right!), and that's with me even showing up not prepared with insurance so it probably would have been even quicker!!! read more

After losing my clutch on the drive home from work on Friday, I had to sell it on Craigslist the next day, and had only Sunday to secure another vehicle. I made an appt online that morning, and was there when they opened at noon. I was immediately attended by a fine young salesman, Luis Ron. It took all of 20 minutes to secure a loan - with $500 down and not that awesome of credit - and we were off to the lot. Checked out 3 cars, took em for quick spins, and made my choice. We waited in the lobby for about 15 mins, sat with the finance girl to do forms (all smooth and easy; they even take care of all DMV paperwork), and we were on our way to lunch my sweet '09 Honda Civic by 2pm! Super clean car with low miles, and a comprehensive service plan with no deductible. No pressure, no BS, knowledgeable and efficient staff. Thanks again to Luìs Ron; you and your team are on point. Bought a 2017 GMC Sierra in November and 2 months later it was completely dead when I tried to start it on Monday. Called the service department and set up an appointment for that Friday. Kept it on a charger till Friday n was able to start it. Took it in, turned out battery was very low so it was replaced, no charge. They topped off my gas tank and when Miguel handed me back my keys he thanked me for m service. He had seen my Navy Veteran license plate bracket, that's attention to detail as well as a show of respect. For me that means a lot. read more

Recently bought a 2017 Dodge Ram 1500 from this dealer - paid for entirely up front. About three weeks into driving the truck, a check engine light pops on. My salesman directs me to call the service department - the service department does not pick up their phones (multiple calls made at different times of day). Once I finally had a sales member connect me with an actual maintenance team member, they didn't have availability for 3 weeks and didn't seem to care the the car was recently purchased. This CARMAX branch seems to focus on their profit margin more than taking care of their customers - this check engine light should be addressed immediately, especially since I'm in the 90-day return window. Maybe I'll just get my 34 grand back and buy from a different dealer. I will not recommend anyone to buy from Carmax. read more

We had an appointment at 4pm and handed over the keys to have the car appraised, after already getting an online offer. We waited over 30 minutes, then had to ask what was going on. They had finished the appraisal (exact same offer as online) and no one thought to let us know. Then they could not find our keys and spent 5 minutes searching for them. By the time we got the offer and went to the business office it was after 5pm and we were told we have to come back the next day because the financing offices were closed for the lien holder, since our car is not fully paid off yet. I accompanied my daughter when she purchased her first car from this location this past weekend. Her sales associate Manny was terrific. I liked the whole feel of this place. You don't feel pressured or bothered by the sales people. They have a huge car lot and great variety of vehicles. I liked the no haggle pricing. It really simplifies the process from the start. What you see on the window sticker is what you pay (minus the sales tax). Also, if you find a car online you're interested in, you can place a 7-day hold on it and schedule an appointment time to test drive it. The hold takes it off the lot and the online inventory, so you can be assured it's waiting for you when you arrive. This was terrific! My daughter had already financed her car loan through her credit union, so since she wasn't financed through CarMax, she did need to pick up the lienholder check herself from the bank, but it really was no biggie. She is very happy with her choice of car, and I know I will definitely be coming back here whenever we need a newer used vehicle. read more

The only reason I'm taking a star off is because I was told I could "cash" the check the next day. Wrong! You can only deposit because it's a "bank draft" ugh. I purchased a Mini Cooper S Roadster after I was in an accident and my Honda was totaled. I found my dream car and had it shipped from Los Angeles to the Pleasanton Carmax. The sales person that helped me was John and he is 6 ft 7 in. Watching him get into my tiny car = priceless. I was so excited to buy my dream car, I didn't properly look at it. It was dark, raining, and I was a toddler waiting to open Christmas presents. When I noticed some things that were a bit off, I contacted Carmax. I spoke with Chace and Stephanie. They are amazing. I dropped my car off today to have the small items addressed and I had the pleasure of working with Alysa (sp?). Alysa is beyond amazing. She is professional, knowledgable and a wonderful Carmax representative. Alysa took detailed notes about my concerns even though I had given Stephanie and Chace the information...Alysa went above and beyond to take care of me and my car. Alysa inspected my rental car and showed me the damage. I have never had someone take such care to make sure that all damage was documented. The rental was not damaged but it IS the size of a cruise ship! My experience with Alysa, Stephanie, John, Chace, and the staff at Carmax is 10 stars. read more

Wow 0/3 with yelp this week. Has bad service become the norm for America or am I just having really bad luck lately?!?! Went to this location early Sunday before they opened. Checked in and sat in the appraisal area. Waited for about 5 min and got a call from Manzar (Manar?) Munir to see where I was so he doesn't have to walk over. Got a bad vibe from the start. I got up to see where he was and that's when he walked over. Could barely make out what he was saying since he was mumbling. I had to ask him to repeat himself multiple times. Manzar took my keys and ask for my car info, he said he will get back to me when it's ready. Half an hr has passed and I still haven't heard from him, one hour passed and still nothing. I went to my car and the number on my car is off so I figured the appraisal must be done and will be calling me soon. 1.5 hrs passed and nothing. I got frustrated and annoyed at 2 hrs. I got up and asked someone if my car has been appraised since it's been two hrs when it shouldve taken about 30-45 min. I was instructed to ask the front desk, then was told to go to the greeting booth in front. That's when Manzar saw me from his desk and walked over. Looks like my appraisal been done for over 1 hr and he didn't tell me. I can't believe he works here. This guy is not approachable and have no customer service skills. If it's a new person I understand but his name tag says he's been there for over a year. Carmax used to be good but they've became like most dealerships and will hire anyone and is desperate for a sale/purchase instead of caring for the customers. I might try again with the Fairfield location in the future since I had better experience with them before. read more

Had a horrible experience today. I put a car on hold for an appointment today. The rep (Rocky) sent me an email and phone call confirming. I replied with email confirmation as well as called on phone and double confirmed my appointment. Today I went promptly at the appointment time and was checked in. After 30 mins of waiting I inquired what the issue was. They told me that Rocky was not in office and they are trying to find another sales rep. After some time I was gIven a rep who had no idea about the car ( and I don't blame him since he was pulled in last minute). I had questions about the car features and he had no answer and said to google it or go to another dealership. I really liked the car but wanted more information and requested that the hold he extended to another week so they can get a rep who can actually answer questions. I talked to a manager who was extremely rude and instead of apologizing on the experience told me that this is normal process at Car Max and the rep won't not know anything about the car. I am sorry to say if that's the normal protocol of Car Max then I am not coming back again. I expected that I made reservations 4 days in advance and the rep knew exactly which car I was intending to buy. They could have done some basic research on what they were selling. A person spending $30K would expect atleast that. Was it too much to ask. Rude manager made it even worse when it felt like I was put on trial on asking question. Never ever again read more

While my experience with CarMax was not the norm based on the reviews, my advice if anyone is interested, is if you are planning to do your own bank financing, make sure you understand fully the expectations and unwavering rules CarMax adheres to in that regards. Also, would recommend you run a carfax report on the vehicle you are looking to purchase as a verification. The service CarMax used will leave out information it considers wrong. If you are like me, I want to know all and make the determination my self to exclude or ask for more background. Lastly, was not able see a full report on what work was done on the car since being in CarMax possession. the interior currently in the vehicle did not align with the interior attached to the vin number or options even available for the vehicle. While the report that was given to us showed interior was repaired/replaced, not sure if CarMax did a full interior overhaul or what or why. to get this listing we needed to be at the purchase stage to see this list of work done (not before). read more

I want to only give this 2 and a 1/2 stars. The sales staff is great! The service department however is severely lacking! We purchased a vehicle and had to have the windshield replaced. It has taken 3 weeks to get an appointment set up. It took 6 phone calls, and me basically yelling at an operator until I was told there is only one person working the service department. I find that unacceptable. Customer service should be at the forefront of any business. A customer having to return phone calls repeatedly in an attempt get a response within the 30 days so we don't have to come out of pocket is not good customer service in my personal opinion. My three year old and I took the shuttle from Carmax in Pleasanton to the target less than a mile away. We have been waiting over an hour for the shuttle to go back to Carmax in 95 degree weather. And I was told I couldn't get a loaner even though my appointment is at least 3 hours.... Edited to add: return to CarMax 4 hours after appointment to be told we have to get "creative"... They didn't find it necessary to call me THREE hours ago when the windshield got here with two "huge scratches "... ummm a phone call would have been nice.... So now, I am NOT nice. I am not a happy or friendly customer at all. I live 45 minutes away.... Only wasted my entire day... It's cool, my time isn't important.... Further edited: If it weren't for Preston and his basic understanding of human empathy I would have removed all stars. He offered apologies for my time wasted, and his managers basic lack of understanding. The manager was a jerk and would basically accept no responsibility for the situation, while he didn't personally scratch the replacement windshield, it should have been inspected prior to removing a functioning windshield and rendering my vehicle unable to be driven. Only excuses were offered as to why I wasn't notified sooner. Totally unacceptable. read more

Everything was explained clearly and it was truly a fun, stress-free buying experience. I'm so in love with my new car. I have read some negative reviews here but I think, with a couple of exceptions, that most of those people didn't seem to realize they were buying a used car from a business that's trying to make a profit. Compared to other dealerships, Carmax is so transparent and has crafted a great experience. I've bought used cars before and while I might have been able to finagle a slightly better price by a few hundred dollars somewhere else, I might not have been successful and it probably would have taken me many weeks or months. I've always had good luck with their cars and have never used the warranty. My daughter who isn't easy on her car had an issue. It turned out there wasn't anything wrong with the car but improper care by her. Joel brought me to Gush who was understanding and helped me get the car back on the road. There's more to the story. I was an angry father and wasn't very polite to them in the beginning. They both remained calm and went above and beyond to help us. Gush kept it touch with me through the whole process daily. I don't normally give 1 star ratings but I will never purchase a vehicle from them again. I bought a $30,000 2016 F-150 off of them two weeks ago. The day after I bought it, I noticed A huge screw in my tire. I absolutely know that it was me who ran it over (Sucks). I called them to see if they could help me out since I literally just signed a $30,000 deal with them the day before, and maybe the service department could patch the tire for me as a $30,000 courtesy. The service department didn't even call me back. I left two messages! CarMax Family?!?! Huh?!?! You're one of THOSE type of family members huh? Take my money and business but you can't even give a courtesy call back a fucking day later. I am totally aware that the screw in my tire was my fault, but to not even call me back is utterly ridiculous. How to keep good business 101: Call your one day old $30,000 customer back! read more

I am actually still here at CarMax and I never write reviews while still at an establishment, but it looks like I've got some time... When I arrived, they took my phone number down and asked me to wait in the lounge area to be called. I guess that's whats funny about the English language. I didnt think they would literally call my cell phone. Who does that, especially when the lounge is only 20 feet from the main desk?? Are they really that lazy that they cant walk over and ask for me? I always screen calls so I rejected two calls that came in. They didnt leave a voicemail or come to the lounge so I sat here waiting 20-30 minutes longer than I should have. It's an incredibly ridiculous setup if you ask me. I bought my car at another location (see my other review), and had such a great experience that I will buy my next car at a Carmax, and I try to do as much of my servicing at Carmaxes. I'm always impressed by the small thoughtful gestures that they make.....today I brought my car in for servicing. I brought my laptop so I could get some work done while waiting (they have free WiFi), and rather than sit in the reception area, the lady suggested that I go sit at one of the desks that they use to complete paperwork with a buyer. Thoughtful. Every time I come to one a Carmax, something like that happens. That's why they get my business. As a side note, unlike OTHER dealerships (hint hint Centenial Toyota Of Las Vegas), I didn't get badgered by a single car salesman. read more

Went in with my oldest son after he passed his written driving test. Figured it wouldn't hurt to look and get a gauge of what he likes. At first I followed the directions given to me by google maps. Given I was with family friends I gave Siri a shot and took to the streets from where I was in Dublin. It threw me off course and I was led to a nearby neighborhood. Found my way back and went into the lot. At first glance you'll see the dodge dealership, almost looks combined but Carmax is right next door. In order to see the cars you must first walk through their showroom and be greeted by the staff. They'll ask you a few basic questions and you'll then be free to roam the lot. Given the size of the lot, the selection was still fairly reasonable. Prices ranged from 12000 to more hefty luxury car prices that they have available. The selection of cars weren't limited to just what was on hand and offer free transfers up to 250 miles from other Carmax locations which was neat so that you can go to your nearest location without much of a hassle. Overall the experience didn't have much of that added pressure from the sales guys, and they even leave you alone to browse freely. As for my kid he seemed to be pretty pumped at the whole experience and gave me a good idea of what he liked. Hopefully soon we'll be able to narrow it down and drive away with a fairly affordable car. read more

After spending four hours and waiting two hours to close on a trade in and purchase, the local Car Max office was unable to complete the transaction. Despite a clear title on the trade in (agreed by Car Max) and a letter showing the traded in vehicle was paid off (agreed by Car Max), the deal was suspended until Car Max could speak to someone from the car loan company to verify there was no lien. (Remember the title is clear without a lean). Overall, the Car Max business process has taken the ability to make a simple decision away from those working in the office. This after hours of waiting.
