Strap in for some bomb tacos at a mere $1.75 a piece. I ordered one of each and lived my best life. I wish I could tell you which was the best, but they all looked similar to me and were easily 5 out of 5 stars. Pair this with coke in a bottle and a friendly girl at the counter and I was set. The marination of the meat was succulent and juicy. There are probably 10 toppings you can pick and choose. The tortillas are made in house and are some of the softest I've ever had, unreal. The set up was quite minimalistic, as it should be when you're dealing with authentic Mexican food. This joint started as a taco truck and moved into a large cafeteria-esk complex that is always packed. Be sure to come early, when they run out of food they will just close! I absolutely love that, it makes the place feel exclusive. My co-workers took me because I told them how much I enjoyed Tex-Mex, they have changed my mind completely. Delicious food. The customer service is bad. There's certain ways to speak to customers. If you don't like your job then go elsewhere. There's no "thank you" or "have a nice day" from the girls at the register. No smile, no nothing, they want you in and out basically. Which I don't blame them in a way but have some manners. Over the phone is the same or worse. I only go back because it's honestly really good. Otherwise, I'd never go back. If any of the employers read this, hope it opens their eyes and they improve their customer service and don't look miserable. read more

We came in on a Sunday around noon and the place was pretty crowded with families eating. The line wasn't too long and it moved quickly. We ordered the birria and carnitas and both were juicy and so flavorful. We were the only people who didn't speak Spanish in the restaurant but the workers were super friendly and accommodating while taking our order. The tacos came packed to-go with salsas, hot oil, extra broth for the birria. The hot oil was a surprise. It was very similar to Chinese hot oil, which I thoroughly enjoyed. For two people, we always get 1 pound of carnitas which comes with eight tortillas, but friends have also raved about the cabeza and buche. On a Sunday after church, the line to order stretched almost from the counter to the door (maybe 20 or more people deep) but somehow it all went quick and smooth, even finding a table in the huge (but completely full) dining room. Place your order and wait for your number to be called on the speaker. The salsa bar is fresh and ample, snag some of the toasted chile oil from another table if you can. The food is great!! The service is absolutely HORRIBLE!... my family order a lb of carnitas which came with ONLY 6 tortillas. My mother went and bought another order of tortillas. This order of tortillas only had 3 tortillas. We needed more then 3 so I went to BUY an order that came with more then 3 tortillas. I then was told by a very rude cashier we can't sell more then what the order came with. That's when I told her then put a sign that says that. She then said everyone already knows. 1st NOT everyone knows ESPECIALLY when it's your first time there. 2nd IM PAYING FOR THEM it's not like we where getting them for free. Friendly service but the $1.50 tacos are incredible. I had two Carnitas tacos and a Quesadilla Semilla (warm, and melted so well it stretches!) for less than $5! Next time I'll try the Birria- they also serve Cabeza, Cheeks and Skins....can buy Carnitas by 1/2 lb/ and more for family meals. Not a lot of choices, ambience of a high school cafeteria. The food is fine if you're looking for a cheap plate. Tucson is full of Mexican restaurants, taco trucks and tamales sold in parking lots, so I would pass on this one. I'm a veteran and always drive by this joint after my appointments at the VA...my wife was asking why this place had so many cars outside....I thought it was a pawn shop at first glance but I read the Spanish to my wife and realized it's a restaurant. We read the reviews and people are idiots or don't want anyone else to go, there the lady at the counter was nice so I don't understand the bad reviews???? we ordered the berria plate which is a lamb stew/soup served with corn tortillas. Their salsa bar is small but both the green and rojo salsa are extremely tasty and pico de gallo, cilantro and onion. They also have cabbage which I've never seen before in salsa bar but when added to the lamb stew is freaking amazing!!! You have to add the salsas to your stew if you like hot food. Overall I don't understand why people talk smack about this place?? they play Mexican music which is cool because it gives you the feeling your in Mexico and of course the place is packed with Hispanics but when you walk into a Mexican joint and see only Mexicans you know the food is going to be awesome, if I see only white people in a Mexican restaurant I walk out because in my experience either the food was way overpriced or really bad. By the way I'm white, and this place is my favorite so far!! If you're like me and enjoy good Mexican food and hot stuff you'll love this place. Yeah it's old school with actual dish bowls but that's what makes this place special, the place is big and nice and cool which is unheard of in most mom and pop places. Delicious and cheap! I had a carnitas and an asada taco and both were great. Fresh, great tortilla. Nice shaded area with tables to eat, perfect for a quick lunch. We stumbled onto this taqueria by accident, while looking for parking at the Tucson Gem Show. We shared a 1/2 Carnita which was plenty for the 2 of us. Don't follow the Yelp map or you'll end up at the former location which is waaay different. Big, clean restaurant with good food that is very easy on the wallet. Carnitas in different sizes lunch (for 1 or 2) or by the pound! Salsa bar and homemade thick corn tortillas! They also have cabeza which is outstanding! The carnitas were real good but not the best I've had. (The best are marinated in either orange juice, pepsi (not coke) and fried to a golden crispy crunch!) The carnitas are mass produced and very good, but the cabeza and tortillas and everything else, including the price makes this 5 stars! It does get very busy at peak times so be warned....go before or after lunch or dinner! Every time I've gone in there are families and usually some kids who have managed to get probably 1/2 pound of carnitas meat scattered under their high chair! Considering a taco is less than $2 a piece, you get a good amount of meat for that price. Husband considers himself a pico de gallo conoisseur and said it was one of the best he's tested. Birria wasn't quite up to par but the carnitas did not fail. The fact that the tortillas are made in house was a huge plus. Parking is more than ample, will be back.
