I needed a gas wall heater for my rental house. Found Aloha Air on Google Search and Yelp…read more Max, the owner, came out to assess the situation. To come out for an estimate, it was $150, which would apply to the cost. I didn't notice on the estimate I received, the BTU was lower than what was being replaced by 10k BTU (original heater was 35k BTU). It was my oversight by not confirming with Max that it would be the same BTU. Lessons learned. He did explain that 35k is overkill for the area being heated....roughly 500 sqf and the lower heater BTU of 25k would last longer. The installers were neat and tidy and made sure they cleaned up the area after installation. The cost is definitely on the high side $2,200 (cost of the wall heater was $724 plus a new thermostat). It took about 2 1/2 hours to install. So labor was definitely on the high side. Hindsight, I would've gotten a couple of more estimates.

There were definitely some challenges along the way, especially with permits in our city. Apparently it is much tougher than others when it comes to permits, and it ended up requiring a lot more paperwork and extra effort than he expected. Even with all that, Cyrus stuck to his original quote and never tried to charge us more, which we really appreciated. Jaime and Jesus handled the installation of the air handler, ductwork, and heat pump. They worked hard, were very respectful of our home, kept things clean, and honestly were much quieter doing the work than I expected considering all the cutting and installation involved. They also worked hard to finish ahead of the timeline they originally gave us. Inspection passed with no issues, and now we've been using the AC for months with zero problems. Overall, we're really happy with the work and would definitely recommend them.

Oscar answered all my questions about the issue with the AC unit and what was broken and options for repair. Knowing that the coming week had a heat wave in the forecast I was hopeful that the fix could happen quickly. Not even 3 days later they called to schedule a repair for end of week. They also provided an arrival time and showed up early! Freddy C and Renee came out and worked diligently to install a new AC and went the extra mile to trim some shrubs to make enough space for the outside unit. They were polite and considerate as I was working from home during the install. Later that day after they left I had to call to ask someone to come back because I was experiencing an issue with the auto shut off and Albert (? sorry if I got that wrong) answered and scheduled time for someone to come the next day. Not even 10 minutes later I got a call back from Albert and he said someone would be there in 30 minutes to take a look. Oscar came back and was able to fix the issue quickly. He was once again extremely professional and took the time to explain to me the issue and what he did to fix it. These guys work super hard and provided A+ service. I highly recommend.

Their technicians fled our house before we could talk with them about it. Story - Our AC unit started not working and they were quick to arrive and investigate the situation. However, the first technician they sent out thought it was a problem with just cleaning the dust on our blower. Turned out it still didn't work properly after running it later that night - in fact our house got hotter. The same technician came back out the next day after we called NexGen and we found out he had forgotten to plug a wire back in for the condenser on our AC unit - this is a lack of professionalism and care in the work performed. Our AC unit then would only work for about 2-3 hours. We called NexGen to come back out and look at the issue again with a different technician who told us instead we needed a brand new furnace. The next day our furnace was installed, but during the installation, the technicians damaged our ceiling and tore paint off from the ceiling. They tried to glue parts of our ceiling back and it was done so poorly. They even left glue on our walls still. When my wife and I saw the damage done to our ceiling they had already left. I have been trying to get a hold of NexGen since they left and nobody has returned my call for the last 4 days since our installation. The lack of quality of service and attention to detail is embarrassing. The technicians they sent out were also talking loudly about how new they were to the Company - makes sense as to how much of a shoddy job they did.

As for not charging me for all of your technician's time, that's because he spent more than 10 hours on a job that he ultimately could not fix. Even now, I am still waiting for a manager to call me back with a real solution rather than more explanations for why commitments have not been honored. The most troubling part of this experience is the lack of honesty. Your technician failed to communicate what he could not fix and left me believing the issue had been resolved when it had not. As a result, my hood actually performs worse today than it did before your company worked on it. Everyone makes mistakes. What matters is how they are handled. Otherwise, it is a special order. Regardless, they do not carry inventory in store that you can walk out with. This is a showroom. But they do have designs not available in the big box stores. And you can look, touch and feel the movement of the hardware before buying.

Avoid at all cost, dishonest diagnostic result, wasted time and money In July, our office experienced a fire incident, during which we contacted both the fire department and an HVAC service provider, as the fire department was unable to identify the source of the smoke and suspected it was related to the HVAC system. We selected Carter due to their prompt response. Unfortunately, this decision proved to be a costly waste of both time and resources. Upon arrival, Carter's team, who appeared to be familiar with the fire department, were informed that smoke might be originating from the HVAC vents. They subsequently claimed the issue was due to a malfunctioning belt and motor damage. They shut down one of our HVAC units and proceeded to quote us for repairs to the allegedly "broken" components. Shortly after Carter's departure, it was discovered that the actual source of the fire and smoke was a burnt power outlet on the floor which is completely unrelated to the HVAC system. While this misidentification was in part due to the Torrance Fire Department's error, Carter's inaccurate and misleading diagnosis was unacceptable. Their conclusion was not only incorrect but also eroded our trust in their integrity and professionalism. To verify, we later engaged a different HVAC company to perform maintenance and diagnostics. Their inspection confirmed that there was no belt or motor damage whatsoever. This reinforced our belief that Carter had simply echoed the fire department's assumption and sought to profit from an unnecessary repair, rather than providing an honest and professional assessment. Based on this experience, we have lost confidence in Carter's services and will not be engaging them again. Choose wisely before making your decision to work with Carter Service. read more

We were grateful that Isaac B. came to our house to help us get our KitchenAid refrigerator able to be cooling the food again. He had to do it by testing with his devices to see what fans and parts were even working. The computer boards in the back are not working and the condensers are failing. He found the deli drawers were not working at all this time, and got the cooling system to start responding again. This was all done without adjusting anything on the computer panel as it is not operating at all. This was Wednesday, March 25, 2026. He also came out last year on October 25 to deal with the ice maker, and other issues with the deli drawers and the cooling. Isaac told us that this type of refrigerator has been one that he often gets house calls for. He told us he feels that this fridge is definitely a lemon and that we should not do further repairs. It's just over two years old, but It needs to be replaced. The cost of repair would be as much as a new fridge. He advised us which brands and types of refrigerator, are the best to get. We are glad we bought the five-year warranty, because now we can submit our invoices and receive compensation. Thank you Isaac. Your honesty and integrity and refrigerator experience Is why we trust Carter's because they've been been in this business for years and have always repaired what we have asked of them. This particular fridge needs factory assistance to continue to work the way it did we bought it. Carter's will send a tech out, right when you call them. No need to wait for weeks to get a tech, like the insurance company was telling us. we needed assistance right away. At least now we know what type of refrigerator will serve our needs much better. I read the reviews previously posted, and cannot believe the 5 were writing about the same company! We bought all of our appliances from Friedman's in Signal Hill in 2004, and trust them explicitly. After coming home this past Monday night, we found our Amana refrigerator was not cold. First thing Tuesday, I called Friedman's and asked for a reputable repair company. They gave me 3 that they use, but said that Carter Services was their favorite. Called Carter, they gave me a 1-5 window for coming out, and I was shocked when I received a call from "James" who said that he would be to our house within 20 minutes. This was at 1:35! True to his word, he arrived at a few minutes before 2:00, spent about 10 minutes testing the unit, and the total charge to fix it was $285.32 including the trip charge. I was so impressed with his honesty and professionalism that I called the company and spoke with the office manager. James could easily have told me that the compressor was bad (we let the extended warranty lapse a year ago) and I wouldn't have known the difference. The relay was the problem, and while he had to order the part, I have every confidence that when he returns to install it, we will once again have a working refrigerator and freezer. 5 stars for promptness, integrity, attitude and equally important (at least to me) a person who showed up with a very pleasant personality. Would (and will) highly recommend this company to neighbors and friends. I have a hard time believing that this company can still be in business for over 35 years if they were as bad as the reviews that I read on this site. read more

I have used Carter Services for years because they used to be reliable and competent, but something has definitely changed for the worse. I made two recent appointments: one for AC repair and one for a refrigerator leak. The AC technician was nice and seemed confident in his diagnosis, but the bill was almost $2,000. I signed off on the repair, then a day or two later got a call saying it would actually be $700 more. I was told the technician had just made a verbal guess, even though I had already signed for the original price, so I cancelled. I ended up hiring another company who told me the original diagnosis was completely wrong and fixed the AC for half the original quote. For the refrigerator, I showed the technician exactly where the problem was and suggested replacing the tubing. He told me the kit wasn't available and that maybe I could buy a whole new door, which I told him- I did not want. He called the office for advice and I waited about half an hour. While waiting, I had a question about the washing machine but he refused to even listen, saying my service call was only for the refrigerator. When the office finally called back, the answer was that the new door wasn't available, which made no sense since I never wanted a new door in the first place. I paid for the service call and he left, and I fixed the problem myself for $10 using tape from Home Depot. I called Carter Services to complain about the experience with the refrigerator technician, and the office said they would forward my complaint to management but nothing was resolved. read more

Our dryer vent was blocked and another dryer vent cleaning service failed to fix it. We then called Carter and our technician worked miracles. He diagnosed not only the problem and fixed it, but also was really helpful in our understanding of the weird shape of the venting and how to take care of it in the future. He was able to pull out a giant brush at the end of a snake line that someone had left in there years ago before our time, which had collected lint and caused a complete blockage. Really, a miracle. The downside was that to get in the back of the washer/dryer, he had to pull out the washer hose from the drain and forgot to put it back. All that water flooded my downstairs when I used the washer the first time. Oh well! It was just water. It cleaned up. He was otherwise amazingly thorough and tested, retested, and then retested the vent. On top of it, they NEVER tried to upsell me or spring unexpected fees on me or charge me crazy prices for things like a hose or whatnot (the OTHER company who failed to fix the vent tried to charge me $69 for a dryer exhaust hose, which I went out and replaced myself for $9). Carter was very professional, really nice to deal with, came right on time, and I plan to call Carter for plumbing and electrical in our bathroom remodel. Big 5-star thumbs up!! read more

Outstanding quality for the price. Carter's isn't a cut rate air conditioning contractor - they are first class all the way. You know the saying you get what you pay for. If you are looking for a cheap low quality repair place - click the back button now - Carters isn't for you. We are repeat customers having used Carters for our last two homes new heating and air conditioning systems. George worked with us both times. Since we wanted the same system in our new house. George didn't waste our time with the basics (we already knew them) he jumped right into explaining what improvements Carrier has over the last 5 years as well as convincing me to go with the new Infinity Air Cleaner. While George managed our project and assisted with the installation, much of the work was handled by two of his techs, Kiapo and Edger. They were both polite, respectful and good communicators, always wearing shoe booties inside without even being asked. After the installation George scheduled the duct leakage tests which we passed well below what code allows. Our second Infinity Greenspeed system has been installed for about 5 months now and has been flawless. No regrets on adding the air cleaner on, it makes a noticeable difference on the air quality. I called Carter's in the hopes someone could come out for same day to service. My freezer was going out I just figured it would be impossible, but I was surprised to learn I could have same day serve, the dispatchers were extremely helpful and informed me I would receive a call once the tech was on the way, this gave me plenty of time to leave work to meet up. Isac showed up, he very pleasant, helpful and kind, clean uniforms with his proper I.d. He took two seconds and told me exactly what was going on, he explained everything to me like a friend, not like a technician trying to impress me with industry jargon. His suggestion was to purchase a new refrigerator. He felt fixing it be like putting a band-aide on a huge wound, it would be a temporary fix. I asked for suggestions and he was very helpful, his knowledge on refrigerators was incredibly. He answered all of my questions gave me great advice and I felt like I've known him forever. What inspired me was his honesty! My experience with technician in the past is, they will say anything to sell you things you do not need I recommend carters for all of your appliance /home service needs repair needs, you'll not be disappointed. When a water leak was discovered during the installation of a new furnace, I contacted Carter Services for assistance. Samuel responded promptly, arriving the same day to assess the situation. He efficiently diagnosed the issue and presented me with multiple repair options to consider. Understanding the urgency of being without both water and heat, Samuel provided a temporary patch to keep the water running. He then prioritized our repair project, scheduling the necessary work for the very next day. This quick action enabled us to restore water service promptly and allowed the furnace installers to resume their work without delay. Throughout the process, Samuel maintained clear and consistent communication, keeping us informed about every step of the job. In addition to addressing the initial leak, he resolved several other issues that were identified during his visit. These included cleaning a drain, replacing an aerator, and installing a new angle stop on the bathroom sink (at no additional cost). The value and quality of service provided by Samuel and Carter Services far surpassed my expectations. I've used Carter Services for many years, and I believe they have only gotten better and better with time. Most recently, I used Scott, who bent over backwards to try to accommodate my time frame for getting the service work done. He worked around MY schedule, which is often hard to do, and I was really grateful for the effort he made. Scott not only repaired the issue that I called him for, but in addition, he pointed out problems that existed, but of which I was not aware! I know the cynics in the crowd might say that finding new problems only means new work for Carter Services, but they were real problems that would eventually need to be fixed, and it was still my choice as to when and where to fix the problem. We set up another appointment to fix the subsequent issue, he called me the night before to confirm the time frame, and got the problem fixed. I've lived in the South Bay for the past 21 years (and prior for 16 years) and I've used lots of repair companies. None is run as professionally as is Carter Services. As far as price--it's up there, but I'm guessing they are as competitive as any other repair service--repairs (labor time and parts) are just expensive! read more

People of Yelp! It's been a few years, but let me Yelp you another story. This time it's about good-natured, sympathetic, and scholarly man named Isac! Because, and stay with me here, my recent refrigerator repair was an outright pleasant and enjoyable experience! But wait, "How could fixing a broken appliance be an enjoyable experience" you say? Well, I'm here to tell you kindly people of Yelp, it's because of Isac. Remember back when you were a kid, and you'd come across that rare teacher in school that connected to the material in a way that not only encouraged learning, but did so in a manner that made you retain the information and then take it with you long after the school year was over? Even a subject matter you had absolutely no interest or desire in learning? Well folks, I have now learned the intricacies of refrigerator water dispersal and how a failing air damper assembly can completely damper your life. I know what good furnace maintenance is, that is why I switched to Carter Services. In prior years my service company went from good to bad. The service people left or retired and the service suffered. Lately I never knew what company I was dealing with because the service invoice never matched the name on their truck and prices were out of sight. Constant company mergers and new faces. Carter Services showed me a company who is stable and local. I trust their service personnel. Last year Edgar took care of our furnace issues (rats had eaten into the ducts) and Edgar checked our furnace again this year. Carter's service personnel are knowledgeable, courteous and prompt. Their central control of all contact and pricing quotes, which I like, rather than a service person shooting from the hip on pricing influenced by how much their commission would be. Carter is a department store of services from furnace/air conditioning, kitchen, laundry and more. I do not have to engage someone new every time there is a household problem. When I bought a home last year, it came with a home warranty through "Old Republic". I discovered almost immediately that the Sub Zero freezer was not working properly. The previous owners of the home had a Carter Appliance label in the unit; I had used Carter Services at a previous home, but since I now had the home warranty through my realtor, I called Old Republic to send their service person. For the whole year of the home warranty , the problem was never successfully diagnosed and corrected by the technicians sent through Old Republic. This past week when the one year warranty had expired, I called Carter Appliance; their Sub Zero specialist,Sergio, came out; diagnosed the problem quickly; The new heater part should be here Monday. Sergio is a real professional ! Knowledgeable, conscientious, congenial, he provides outstanding service. What a relief, after a year of putting up with 'incompetents' from a home warranty company, to find someone like Sergio, a member of the outstanding Carter Appliance Services. read more

I always receive excellent service from Carter Services as I have used this company over the past 20 years. Recently, Jairo Ramirez, the service technician, did an outstanding job fixing my washing machine that needed a new pump. He drained out water that was impeding my washer from working and then installed a brand new pump. He also gave great advice on how to proceed so that my washing machine would last longer. Since I am a teacher, his advice is invaluable as I love to learn about new tips that save my appliances from constant repair. Jairo Ramirwz is very personable and informative, not only on my washing machine, but my dishwasher problem as well. He resolved problems with my washing machine and dishwasher, and I am very grateful for his kind-hearted and competent excellent service! Also, the office staff is so helpful. We have happily used Carter Services for many years and are glad to refer them! Most recently our less than 3 year old GE Profile refrigerator had a problem ( no ice or water from the door) and no light in the freezer. Winsom the tech with Carter replaced a computer board in the door. However after a week the refrigerator developed the same two problems... next step would be to replace the door which would have a new wiring harness but the door was on back order with GE and there was a strong possibility that it would never show up per Kent, the manager at Carter. Kent refunded the money we spent for the new board ...all we paid was for the service call. We are getting a new refrigerator ...but were really impressed that Kent called us on his day off and wanted us to know that he'd have his staff adjust our invoice which was done the next business day! Carter customer service and commitment to superior service is outstanding. We trust them and that means a lot. read more

I've been working with Carter Services for 11 years now. They are always kind, professional, clean and knowledgeable. It could be my imagination, but it feels like now that they know me so well, they really try to work with me and help with my crazy schedule needs. I have 4 teenagers in the home and a very busy household (in a VERY old house) and things break all the time! I literally have Carter Svcs on speed dial. I rarely wait 24 hours for the help (which is great considering a lot of times it's the toilet or refrigerator!) Aside from the initial consultation fee (which is flat) they also do their best to work with me on pricing and try to get me the best deal they can, I don't know if this is because I'm a single mom or because they're just that good... but I can tell they're always working their hardest for me. Buyer beware. Called to have our furnace diagnosed as it wouldn't distribute air. Tech calls and shows up. He is with the unit for a bit. Tells me it needs a new circuitboard. $770 flat rate to fix. Need to discuss with husband. He says $188.89 to diagnose. I am surprised and disappointed, as I was never told anything about any fee. (Clearly I knew there would be a service call fee and was expecting $75-$100.) I ask if $188.89 goes towards repair if I go with them. He says only if I give him $385 deposit right then. I ask if there is a guarantee against a mis-diagnosis. I got "deer in the headlights." I tell him to have a nice day and that I will not ever call them again. Called another company. $90 service call and they diagnosed in 15 min, had the part in the truck, and out the door within 45 min for $200. Furnace works like a champ. Buyer be skeptical. And don't be pressured. read more

Carter Services was just here for another visit in over 25 yrs of calling them (3rd house they have serviced for me). They are the best; so reliable and helpful and consistent. Their work lasts and I am always confident it will be done right. They do not cut corners; their service is exceptional and their work is rock solid. If there's a problem, I know they will return and fix it (although I don't think I've ever had one). I have used all of their services multiple times over the years and many of their service personnel, like Robert who was just here, are the same ones who showed up 25 yrs ago. When I am frantic, they are calm and resourceful and professional. And to top it off, they are just good, honest, nice people to have in my home. This is my 4th home in 33 years and of all the people/companies who have worked on them, Carter Services is the one I would most recommend. read more

I had an ice build up/defroster issue with my KitchenAid refrigerator. My first instinct was to call the repair professionals at Carter Appliance......and I am happy I did!! I scheduled an appointment and their technician Isac Buenrostro arrived at the agreed to time. Isac was punctual, professional, knowledable and experienced. He quickly diagnosed my issue and ordered a replacement defroster fan and associated parts. Once the parts arrived Isac returned to remove and replace the worn out items. After their replacement, the refrigerator held temperature as required. However, the new fan was abnormally noisy. Carter Appliance gladly replaced the fan with a new unit under warranty at no charge. Carter Appliance stands behind their work!! My regrigerator is cold and my fan is silent!! We were "sheltering in place" when a water leak was heard in the crawl space under our house. Carter Services scheduled a plumber to come to our house to find the leak and, if possible, repair it as well. We were assured that the plumber was briefed on how to do his work while following State mandated health requirements. When the plumber came to our house, he found the leak in the crawl space near our washing machine. He was able to cut out the leaking section of the pipe and solder a replacement section in its place. He was very knowledgeable, thorough, and expressed himself clearly. He was careful to dress for this job and to clean up the access area when his work was completed. Overall, we are very satisfied with the work performed. The only minor annoyance is the fact that he did not call ahead of time on the day of the appointment as told to us by his dispatcher. read more

Both times he was over there had to be some extra adjustments made... one time it was doing light soldering on the back toilet / valve / pipe... the other time was finding a piece that would fit the misshapen U-trap under my sink and he was able to find one right there in his truck (after some trial and error) to complete the work with a smile on his face and did it well / efficiently, and was just the nicest guy as well. Horrible and dishonest…read more Red Apple used to be a solid and reliable company. Something radically has changed, and not for the better. The business does not answer phone calls. Ever. They also have never responded to an email, though they do email invoices. I'm left baking in my house, with my IT equipment failing from the heat -- because they won't answer the phone or call or email or text back. The owner tried to rebrand and dodge his rep, with a new business name. SecureMyAir. It's the Internet - you can't escape your reputation. It's still the same people doing the same things. Beware. This is incredibly unprofessional. I would advise avoiding these people like the plague -- if you want conditioned air.

DO NOT TRUST -- My Personal Experience…read more In my personal experience, this company has been extremely difficult to deal with. The owner initially came across as a great salesperson, but the work performed did not match what was promised. After my electrician pointed out the poor workmanship and safety hazards, it was recommended that I perform a HERS test. The system failed. Red Apple then removed the system and told me I would receive a full refund, but communication stopped shortly afterward and no refund was provided. I eventually hired an attorney, and Red Apple agreed to reimburse me $25,000 in $3,000 installments, but no payments were ever made. After multiple attempts to collect and several unfulfilled promises to drop off a check, I filed a complaint with the California State Licensing Board (CSLB). They also had difficulty contacting the owner. I then filed a claim against the contractor's bond. About a month later, CSLB was finally able to reach Red Apple, and the owner again agreed to reimburse the $25,000, this time in $1,500 monthly installments. As of today, I have not received any payments. This has been an incredibly frustrating and stressful experience. Based on what I went through, I encourage others to be very cautious and to make sure a HERS test is performed and passes before making final payment.

Since SW Corp doesn't have any service technicians in California, they referred me to WiseWay Plumbing. Eric came out to inspect the toilet and confirmed the diagnosis before we began the long wait for the replacement part, which unfortunately took several months to arrive. During that time, Amanda in the office was excellent--she stayed in touch, answered my questions, and kept me updated throughout the process. Once the part finally arrived, scheduling the installation was easy. Eric returned, removed the old component, installed the new one quickly and professionally, and had everything working perfectly again. From start to finish, WiseWay Plumbing provided outstanding customer service. Amanda was friendly, responsive, and organized, and Eric was knowledgeable, efficient, and professional. Even though the lengthy delay was due to the manufacturer--not WiseWay--they handled the entire process exceptionally well.
