For my first visit, I had their Ultimate Silog Meal - Choice of 2 proteins, 5 pieces of pork lumpia, garlic fried rice, with a side of house-made pickled papaya and house-made sweet spicy vinegar. For my 2 proteins, I chose their house-made Ilocos Longganisa and the pan-grilled marinated boneless chicken w/soy mirin glazed. The Longganisa....WOW....it's flavorful and it's the best tasting longganisa I've ever had! The chicken was delicious too! Someone said it's like terriyaki chicken but I disagree. It looks like terriyaki chicken because of the glaze but the taste is unique -- perfect balance between the saltiness of the soy and the sweetness of mirin. For a drink, I had their Halo-Halo...and you might say, "What?! DRINK?! Halo-Halo?!" Their halo-halo is not your typical halo-halo. It has all the traditional components -- jellies, sweetened fruits, like jackfruit, ube, leche flan, milk, shaved ice -- and components they incorporated to make their own like boba and other goodness (not going to tell you, you just have to go and try it). This place is a MUST if you're in town! The restaurant is in the center of a plaza so there's plenty of parking. However, the interior is a little small so seating is limited. The service was excellent! The gentleman behind the counter, who I think is the owner, was super friendly and even helped us with our choices. We chose the three most popular empanadas: Sisig, Diniguan, and Laing. All THREE are so delicious! We especially loved the diniguan. We also ordered the chicharon pork belly plate with garlic rice. Tapsilog is basically a breakfast plate that they serve all day with fried egg, fried rice, and a meat of your choice. They have combos too! Hot momma! I'm so glad that Casa de Empanada has their first brick and mortar so close to my house. I actually used to come to this location all the time for the pizza place that used to be here. I'm glad they moved a few blocks away so that Casa de Empanada could slide right in. It's a tiny place and if you want to dine in here, there are a few tiny high top tables with stools inside and 2 four top tables outside. The tiny tables inside are super cute, with condiments underneath. It sounds awful (and for someone who weighs a bit more, like myself, I was worried) but it's pretty comfortable and I didn't mind the seating. There is no restroom here, so don't expect it to be like a sit down restaurant. The people working here are super nice and friendly. They want to make sure you are having a great time and enjoying their food. But I'm not surprised by that because I understand Filipino hospitality, growing up with it like I did. The service was pretty fast but also pretty slow. Our drinks came out super quick and our breakfast came out in a reasonable time but our take home empanadas (which we ordered everything at the same time) took a very long time. I'm not mad about it though, it's because you can order every flavor and they will make it for you, so it takes time. I didn't realize this and thought I had to order what was available but those got taken by earlier orders so they had to make some of ours, hence the long wait. But was the wait worth it? I love empanadas and saw this place was close to my work. They have a ton of different options including baked, fried, and sweet (only Saturday and Sundays). I ordered three empanadas and it comes with a free drink so I also got the calamansi juice. I ordered the baked chicken mushroom, chicken Philly, and the Filipina in me got the diniguan. I'm not a big fan of peas so the chicken mushroom was not my favorite but it was still good. The chicken philly was delicious though and the diniguan was also very good, very vinegary. The crust was delicious, not too sweet like some Filipino empanadas are and no raisins in the ones I got either (which I was happy about). The inside of the place is small, only having a few high tops and stools but they're pretty close to the counter so it can feel confined when ordering when there are people sitting. A barista friend told me about this new-ish east side spot, and I was able to swing by one morning over the holiday break from work. The logo and signage are cute, menu is larger than expected with several empanadas (baked and fried options), a case of pastries, and some heartier entrees/plates, plus a drink menu. I came in just planning to get a coffee but the display case swayed me to grab an empanada as well. I got the calamansi cold brew and the beef, onion, and cheese empanada. The owner cautioned me about the drink - it is a unique flavor combination with sour citrus and bitter coffee, but they combine nicely and balance out. This isn't a drink everyone will like though, the warning was appreciated. In the future, I'd probably get their ube latte. The empanda was great - snack size, warm, with a tasty filling. I like how they use (and specify) Velveeta for certain fillings, as it's what I grew up with in Tex-mex queso and mac and cheese, but I know some people aren't a fan. The owner said this empanada flavor was his personal favorite, so I think I ordered well. I am not typically in this area so I am not sure when I am likely to be back, but it's a great addition to the area. I thought this place was something nice and different. For being new, they were very crowded when I came in. It is a smaller space with few tables on the side, but they do have a few tables outside as well which can slightly accommodate the customers they're bringing in. It was because of how crowded it was that it got confusing on how to order. There is a counter where you order and someone else helps you pick the empanadas you would like. I wasn't sure if that was the proper setup because other customers had ordered differently. Regardless, staff was friendly and very accommodating to how busy they were. Aside from empanadas, they also have plate combos and drinks such as juices and coffees. I tried their dalandan juice and it was soo refreshing. Their brown sugar milk tea with boba was also good. The empanadas I ordered were the chicken mushroom, spinach and chicken, pork sisig, and there was one more that I can't remember. Out of all the choices that I bought, I really enjoyed the chicken mushroom. Although, with how good the empanadas were, I don't think I can fully justify the price with the size. The customer service is super friendly but genuine, you can tell that they really want to talk to you. We got a lot of food so much so that we had leftovers. Got the sisig empanada and it was great! Ultimate silog was the downfall. I might be wrong but their lumpia seems like something you buy frozen from a store so it wasn't good. Tapa was too salty and oily. Tocino wasn't sweet enough so it didn't taste right, there was something off about it too. "Garlic rice" but just tasted like plain white rice. The atsara didn't taste right either. I don't think it's pickled enough. Would I go back? Maybe for the empanadas but then again, it's expensive. About $6 for one so it's hard to justify. I tried butter chicken, sisig, pork adobo, corn beef, carne asada, beef Philly cheese and chicken with curry I think. Out of all the empanadas only 1 is good for Me, it wa age beef Philly cheese. The rest it's not really good! It's rather too spicy, too much pepper. I also bought their mini ensaymada and that's the worst. The only thing I like about their empanadas is the crust but it's not consistent. Some of them are flaky and buttery and some are not. The ensaymada has no taste, porous (buhaghag) super dry and tasted old even after it was warmed up. Those are the only ones I tried. I probably won't go back anymore. I ordered 4 empanadas and 3 rice plates, and it took a full hour from the time we arrived to get our food. For a lunch spot, that's just not acceptable. They did offer me a free calamansi juice because of the wait, which I appreciate, but unfortunately the bigger issue was the order itself. I asked for corned beef with chicharrón, but when I got back to the office, it turned out to be corned beef with tocino instead. This place is fire!! Every flavor they have is amazing. And empanadas are stuffed! We've came in to grab a box of 12 at a time. Their coffees and latte's are also great. Casa de Empanada has some really delicious Filipino empanadas, my personal faves are the chicken philly cheese, carne norte de patatas, and the beef pica cheese. I also enjoyed the ube Spanish latte! It's very hole-in-the-wall and clean, but very welcoming and the inside easily sits 8. You're greeted well by the staff, all smiles. While the place is small, it's very open in a good way. It's cold if you need to get out of the heat. Food: I ordered 3 empanadas all of which were very good, but my particular favorite was the beef onion and cheese. The cheese was so creamy and the beef was tender. All of the empanadas were also NOT dry which was a big plus as most empanadas tend to be dry. Once you pick your empanadas, they heat it up for you. An order of three empanadas comes with a refresher drink. I got a dalandan refresher, in the family of oranges, and I loved it. It wasn't too sweet which I loved. I also ordered the chicharon pork belly plate and I also enjoyed this. The chicharon was nicely season and very crispy, but the real star of the plate was the fried rice. You just have to be there to taste it. Finally, I also got the ube spanish latte. My oh my this was delicious. Their ube latte uses some kind of ube jam which compared to other places gives it character and an authentic taste to ube. The latte itself is also not offendingly sweet but just the right amount.
