After having my eye on this place for about a year my wife and I decided to have a brunch date here this past friday. Walked in and noticed the hustle and bustle right away. The staff was attentive and awesome from the get go! I ordered the pozole and she ordered the quesa villa. The pozole was some of the best I have had from a restaurant in a long time! Initially, not spicy, but they give you some chile de aceite which was super hot but so damn delicious! My wife loved the quesa villa with the crispiness of the tortilla and the great balance of toppings. Definitely coming back! read more

Wife and I were on a lunchtime walk nearby and decided to give them another chance. Ended up disappointed they haven't regained their spark and continue lowering their value proposition. First off, we weren't offered chips and salsa. Aside from that service was good. Secondly, my torta de asada came without beans and lettuce as listed on the menu. The skimpy pieces of thin-sliced steak hardly made a dent on the sesame roll that enveloped them. We had breakfast here on our trip to San Jose. To start, my husband is from Michoacán and naturally we are very picky with our Mexican food. Menudo 10/10. Tripe was melt in your mouth , perfectly cooked, not chewy at all. Huge pieces Consommé is thick, incredibly seasoned authentic Mexico taste. Chilaquiles verdes with chorizo were possibly the best I've ever had. They make their own chorizo, handmade tortillas and we couldn't believe the flavor. I've never seen my husband eat so slowly in my life. We just didn't want this meal to end. Cafe de olla was too perfect, I felt like we were back in Mexico. The chips and salsas were to die for. I'd seen Casa Villa many times before, as we frequent nearby Cider Junction, but never really paid much attention to them as Mexican restaurants are pretty ubiquitous in SJ. Boy, was that a mistake! Luckily, they were one of the restaurants featured in the "San Jose Gift Cards" by Synergy (https://www.thesanjosegiftcard.com/) that are available for purchase ($60 for $100) at local Costcos. So we were feeling like Mexican and decided to give them a go. The Good: *Great décor and ambiance *Lots of Veg-head friendly dishes and a few vegan ones to boot. *Outdoor dining *Unlike a lot of Mexican places, the food was cooked to order and wasn't brought out to the table in five seconds. *Great, friendly service *Mexican beers and Micheladas are available *Housemade corn tortillas! #NuffSaid *I loved that my Carnitas Plate didn't just come with beans and rice, but grilled nopales (cactus), grilled Jalapeño, and fried cheese to really round it out. Everything was delicious and authentic as it gets. *Carissa's Al Pastor tacos were fantastic, but we wished they had more pineapple in the mix. The Meh: *Place is kinda small and fills up fast *Parking lot is shared with a lot of other businesses, as well as some restaurants, so parking could be an issue at prime times. There is some limited street parking on both Willow & and Bird, but be aware of street signage before parking. We were all craving Mexican food and that's how we ended up here. Relatively small place with a very earthy color palette and decor. They serve breakfast all day as well. They do not have free chips and salsa so we had to order that separately. Got our regular favorites chicken burrito and chicken fajitas. And to try something new- enmoladas from the chefs special. The salsa that came with the chips was not spicy and had a strong roasted garlic aftertaste. Chips were decent and not very oily. I didn't love this salsa but the ones that came later with the burrito were bomb. Burrito was pretty tasty, lots of cheese, guac, rice, beans and properly cooked chicken- all the good stuff. The two salsas that came with it took it up another level. Fajitas were easily the best I had. The chicken was well cooked and not rubbery which is a shortcoming I find at most place. The spices it was cooked with were delicious. The plate only came with three or four tortillas, we needed two more to finish up the dish though. The chicken enmoladas were sweet. Stopped by for dinner using some gift cards. Would have never known about this place if it weren't for the gift cards. Excellent Margaritas and their red sangria was also a star. We started out with the loaded nachos as an appetizer for the table. Good amount of cheese, guacamole, jalapeños, etc. a good way to start. I tried queso birrias. A little too oily/greasy for me, and the meat could have had more flavor...it was kinda bland. But still, it was an OK dish. A small restaurant with a 20 to 25 seats. Came in here to cerebrate a birthday and I got the Pozole. I have the say it was very good and had lot s flavor. The meat was very tender and juicy. My friend recommended we meet at Casa Villa for a meal and we both left satisfied! There are countless Mexican restaurants throughout San Jose but we came since the restaurant offered vegetarian and vegan options. It's an unassuming, humble, and no-frills establishment. The restaurant is colorfully decorated and quite spacious and the service was good but a bit distant. There's indoor and outdoor seating available--we chose the former. We enjoyed our plant-based food! We both ordered their Vegan Chile Relleno. I've never tried a Chille Relleno prior because of the meat and cheese but found their version to be sufficient. It was packed with various vegetables, the portion was reasonable, and the tortillas were appreciated. I just wish it had a bit more seasoning or flavor to it. I also got a Horchata to drink which was creamy and delicious. They serve plenty of food from appetizers, entrees, drinks, and a happy hour menu! Casa Villa is a great Mexican cuisine option for breakfast, lunch, or dinner in Willow Glen. The restaurant is off Willow Street with a free lot in front. A great breakfast experience at Casa Villa. From the service to the food they did not disappoint. There were several tables in this quaint place. The chilaquiles were so good I couldn't decide between red or green sauce so they suggested half and half which was awesome. The eggs benedict and chorizo omelette were also good. One positive of this place: Friendly service and appreciated how attentive the waitress was. The rest, not so good: The first sign of concern was how empty the restaurant was and quiet. Second sign was the menu. It was confusing, had Mexican food, breakfast, and diner food. It also had an extensive vegetarian menu all featuring beyond burger as the protein. My husband ordered the carnitas tacos and I got the vegetarian tacos. The vegetarian tacos tasted like a hamburger. In fact the hamburger was cooked and cut in thirds for the meat in the taco. That was the third sign. The next day my husband had food poisoning and it took him 2 days to recover from the food there. We will never go back there again! read more

A chance to hang out with my foodie cousin John in Willow Glen on a recent Saturday night. I agree with other Yelpers that Casa Villa can be a little spendy and the portions on the lighter side, but the quality of food is definitely there. I enjoyed my carnitas street taco and the chile relleno even though I would've preferred shredded/stewed beef to ground beef for its filling (I have this weird prejudice about Mexican restaurants serving ground beef/hard shell tacos/taco salads - sorry, it's just me). Carnitas were perfectly tender, not oily, and seasoned well. Pineapple agua fresca was light and not too sweet. My cousin's malcajete mixta looked delicious but I didn't get to try it. Evidently the grilled jalapeño it came with was too spicy for him and even after ordering a horchata and downing it along with a few glasses of water, he could not continue eating and had to cut dinner short to get some fresh air and cool down. No judgement, as I'm terribly weak myself when it comes to heat so maybe don't eat all the jalapeño seeds if you order this dish. Great service and welcoming atmosphere. read more

This is a great find in Willow Glen! The small restaurant was very cute. There's seatings outdoor as well and is dog friendly. We definitely over order when we got here but it was worth it. Came here for lunch with my husband and if we're ever in the area again, I wouldn't mind coming back! Margarita: Served on the rocks in the big margarita glasses. Loved that I could taste the tequila and it didn't taste like a mixer. Super refreshing and I'd order it again. Paloma: This was my husband's and I only took a sip but it was tasty. Chicken Flautas: Nice little appetizer. I enjoyed the salsas that came with it. Coctel de Camaron: I'm glad this wasn't super sweet or that it didn't taste like ketchup haha. They make their own spicy sauce so there's a little kick to this. The shrimp was chopped up but there wasn't a lot of of it...it was mainly the tomato juice and cucumber. The shrimp also didn't taste fresh. Would probably skip this next time. Pozole: Really tasty! I wish it came out hotter though! They serve it with tortilla chips, a chili oil, oregano powder, cilantro, onions, and limes. I wish the cabbage came on the side bc there was a lot of it in the soup. In between a 3/4 star but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and will go back again to try more of the menu. We stopped by after some of the other restaurants around DT willow glen were a really long wait and we had to catch a show. Not a huge place inside but very homey. We were sat right away and the menu here is pretty big, some house specials, breakfast all day and your typical Mexican fare. Ended up getting an Al Pastor Burrito Mojado (burrito drenched in either red or green sauce, I opted for red). The burrito itself was huge but after digging in, the cheese inside wasn't melted and not sure if it just tasted a bit cold since there was guac and the unmelted cheese inside. The table also got the dip trio, which was really good, each dip, salsa, guac and this cheese sauce paired really well with their chips. I will say that the service was a bit slow, but all the tables were full so there was that. My husband ordered the shrimp empanadas which were under filled, lacking cheese, and super greasy So glad the coffee was delicious or I would have left even more disappointed than I'm currently feeling. Their menu is vegan & vegetarian friendly but according to my dining companions, their meats leave something to be desired (flavorless carne asada & "just ok" al pastor & beef birria.) We shared two micheladas which came in flavors you don't see everyday -- La Pitufa ($10.99, blueberry mix, modelo especial, & a sticky, melty candy blueberry rim) & Mucho Mango ($11.99, mango puree, modelo especial, & a salty tajin rim.) We had the following, - Chicken Enmoladas plate: This is my standard order at restaurants that offer this dish. I thought the chicken and the mole sauce was pretty good, but still not the best. Went with Black beans and the Mexican/Spanish rice on the side and that was good. - Dip Trio: All the dips were delicious. Huge portions, a lot of the dips were left over since they were three. They can reduce the portion of the dips and maybe reduce the price. Especially loved the guacamole and the queso/cheese. We didn't waste any guac!! - Chicken Burrito: my friend got this and thought it was good. - Tres Leches: This was HUGE! Very dense and moist, as you'd expect. Big strawberries. A lot to finish at once (even for 2 people). I liked it but was maybe a tad sweet for my liking. 4 stars overall. Service was a bit slow with the food, like the other reviews pointed out. We tried this place for the first time and had a mostly good experience. The service was good. My husband had fish tacos and loved it; it was not a big portion, and he finished the meal. I had the veggie burrito, which used beyond "meat" along with rice, beans, and veggies. I ordered a side of sour cream. The burrito tasted fine when I ate it there. (But when I had the leftovers the following day, it had a strange taste. I cannot understand why.) I also ordered a chicken fajita meal for my daughter to go. When we got home, my daughter was disappointed to see they neglected to include the sour cream, pico de gallo, and guacamole that should have come with it; she said it tasted good other than that. Disclaimer: this is specifically for the vegan options. Casa villa is okay - not good, not great. I came in specifically to fulfill a simultaneous Mexican + vegan food craving. Casa Villa is cozy, and there's not a lot of space to move around. In terms of overall environment, it's a little more done up than a no-frills taqueria. Service was great all around, and I had no qualms about the nachos. My dish, the vegan Chile Relleno, was (unfortunately) a disappointment. There's not much that goes into vegan Chile Relleno, and there's not much that went into this one, either. My primary qualm was with the flavor, or moreso the lack thereof. It was kind of like just eating bland vegetables stuffed into a chile. I don't know why I was expecting more, but I was. Thankfully, the nachos were good enough to get me by. We had gone few weeks ago to try it out and we knew we had found a great gem. Today we celebrated my 37th birthday and had about 25 people there and their patience with was off the charts. Not only did they treat us well the food was great, everything came out accordingly. Nobody was waiting on food and everyone ate together. My biggest pet peeve is when food comes all at different times but all food came together. Everyone felt that the food was nice and fresh with quality ingredients and it was also hot as they came out. The place had a nice cozy and welcoming feeling. The variety of Banchan was great and loved their Seaweed Salad which is the first time I've seen it in any of the Korean restaurants I've been to in Las Vegas. Me and wife came here after reading reviews and I was thoroughly impressed. Like reviews state it is in a small shopping center so there is parking there. Also staff were very friendly. I got the sopes and a side of fries. The wife got the pozole. My sopes were delicious. Almost as good as my mother-in-laws which of course are homemade. The fries were also surprisingly good. My wife said they tasted like her abuelas. The wife liked the flavor of the pozole, however, there was a lot of fat. Never knew about this place in the neighborhood before today. A cozy restaurant. Almost like a mom-pop kind of family run business. All the staffs are friendly and care for the customers. I can tell they have returning customers. Someone was celebrating a birthday too and they get to wear a big sombrero as the staff sang Happy Birthday! The 5 Tacos plate was very simple yet flavorful. It's my first time having homemade tortilla in a restaurant and boy was it a different experience. The shrimp and fish taco is my favorite -- nicely charred and the freshness of the cabbage in addition of the pico de gallo makes it perfect. The carne tacos were ok. Wish there was more fresh tomatoes and cabbages to get the texture. The sauces are nice too. I could use something with more heat next time. The quesa-villa was very yummy.
