This place has potential however the salsa bar needs a complete makeover. I have eaten "slug burgers" in Mississippi in a dirt floor diner. So I don't think I am a good snob by any means but I do like good food. Dining area was clean and staff was very friendly. Food presentation especially in the deli area was very lacking. The food itself was not seasoned well and bland. The house wine was very good and if I was just coming for drinks at happy hour I would recommend. This is in an odd location but worth looking for. I love the potato tacos without cheese. They add cabbage and cilantro for a fresh and hearty taste. It's a comfortable place that makes you feel like you're in a funky vacation dive. Service with a smile. Definitely worth checking out. read more

The Tacos are cheap and they are actually a good size and will fill you up unlike most places that just serve street tacos. They also have $1 beers! Love Catalina Fish Kitchen for fresh fish, tacos, smoked albacore and yummy salsa at a reasonable price. Kid friendly and casual any day of the week. And if your little ones don't like fish, a side of black beans and rice does the trick, maybe add some cucumbers and tomatoes with some ranch. It's ok. Took the family and I have only been when I was younger so I remember the tacos were good. I had some fish tacos (different ones) and I enjoyed my meal but kids had fish and chips which looked like grocery store style but greasier and my husband ordered a plate (salmon and veggies I forget what it was called) that he did not enjoy at all. Veggies were old or over cooked and I could tell he was bummed. My other daughter had a bowl with salmon and she loved it. We also had a ceviche appetizer and calamari appetizer those were decent. The menu is jam packed so unless you know what to order it's difficult to make a decision. I think we all wished we would have tried something else. Staff is great tho and accommodating. If anyone knows what the bomb is to order please let me know otherwise the tacos are safest bet. We probably won't take fam there again tho. read more

Catalina Fish Kitchen is a good restaurant. I believe that they make the best clam chowder within Orange County, especially in their breadbowl. Their fish tacos are a little on the bland side but their salsa makes the flavors pop, especially the sharkbite sauce. They really struggle at making good fish and chips. I have ordered them three times hoping for the best each time, but somehow they completely burn them and cook the fish to a crisp. I do not recommend them. Stick with the tacos or burritos, but definitely get some white clam chowder. It's stellar. read more

Some of the best taco Tuesday I've ever had! I love this place. It's kind of a hole in the wall and in a place that you wouldn't think of going to. The environment is pretty chill. It's open seating and has a good bar vibe. I usually get the ahi and chicken tacos and they taste great! For less than $10 you can have a pretty good time and the food tastes awesome. Heard about this place from some fellow firefighters and after some training one day, we headed over. As I walked in I noticed the beautiful, fresh, clean tuna steaks (along with other fish) in the fridge-display windows next to where you order. The atmosphere was pretty cool and surfer friendly. I ordered 3 taco meal. Came out to $9 with a drink. They had better be tasty right? Well they were. This is my secret lunch time spot. The people are friendly, the surf atmosphere is relaxed and you can get a beer to go with your fish taco! Whenever I get a chance, I would always order two tacos (mahi mahi and halibut) with a hef. The fish taco is wrapped in a warm flour tortilla and topped with shredded cheese and cabbage. This is my favorite place to eat in OC. Every time we go to the beach we go out of the way to come here. They have about 10 kinds of fresh fish. You can get them prepared several different ways (ie. grilled, blackened, lemon pepper) and then you can get them served several different ways (in a burrito, taco, bowl, plate) My favorite is the bowl. Jasmine rice, tons of veggies that change with the seasons and then your fish and then avocado and crispy noodles. The textures, flavors and quality is out of site. I've had it with Ono, Salmon, Swordfish, and Mahi. Loved them all. Oh and their salsa bar is outstanding. My fave is the black salsa and I add a touch of habanero. My wife and I went here for our Valentine's Day lunch; we wanted seafood, without a crazy crowd, and to just enjoy a good meal together. We both enjoyed Catalina Fish Kitchen, and agreed we would like to come back to try more things. She had the Combo, which was a big plate of fried goodies. The cod and shrimp were fantastic, the calamari was pretty good but we've had better. We both, however, loved the sword fish BLT! It was so good - nice bun, just the right amount of bacon, flavorful tomatoes, and a big piece of swordfish, accompanied by good potato wedges and a nice cole slaw. My wife doesn't usually like coleslaw, but we both wolfed ours down. We had the fish ceviche for our starter and enjoyed that as well! Location is a bit odd to get to and you really have to look for it. I ordered their shrimp ceviche and chips, and 3 tacos: tiger shrimp, scallops, lobster. Highly recommend the scallops, the other two were just salty even if u put sauces and lemon on it. Went here for lunch. It's a fun place full of locals. The food was pretty good, but not great. The clam chowder was sour. Don't think I'll be heading back, because if I want tacos, I'll go to Taco Mesa down the street, and the California Fish Grill in Irvine has better seafood. read more

The only bad thing I had here was ahi fish tacos, I told them that I like them very rare only lightly seared and I ended up with cooked tuna, gross!! I ordered two cod and two ono tacos. To my surprise tgey were served on flour tortilla rather than the normal corn tgat you get at most places. They were absolutely tge best fish tacos I ever had!
