Today we decided to take food to go after a long day at work but the girl that answered wasn't polite at all then I ordered something I wanted with a very small change which I always do by the way but this girl tried to make me change my order all together because she didn't want to do it how I asked, she didn't like that I still ordered what I wanted originally. Fast forward when I got there she had an attitude didn't greet me nor answered something I asked her. Have been coming to this place for almost 2 years now. Great food. My fav's are lomo soltado and pollo al mojo.(say easy on garlic if you can't handle strong garlic taste). Lot of cops visit here to eat and you know what they say about a place visited by lot of cops?? . . .It means the food is damn good. Had to take out one star because the quality of food is not so consistent. Quite a few times the steak on Lomo Soldado just didn't taste right(tasted funny) or the chicken on Pollo al Mojo tasted dry or the rice didn't taste fresh. But when they get it right, the food is BOMB. Also, the place doesn't feel so clean, I can ignore that though but the restroom must feel/look clean because a restroom tells you how hygienic a place is which in this case needs to be improved. That said, this place is definitely worth trying out, I highly recommend it. Edit 09-09-17 - Had to take out another star coz the food's not been consistent off late. My family and I love this place! My husband and i typically order the Pollo al Mojo and my son gets the tex mex Burger with fries. There are good portions. The pollo al mojo is half a rotisserie chicken and it is.soooooooooooo good. They cook each chicken fresh over a special wood and flame for I believe 2 hours. So moist and flavorful. It comes with rice, black beans and plantains. A full meal will leave you nice and happy. I like rice so I always order extra side of rice. I've also had the bistec corillo (I'm sure I slaughtered the spelling). Its beef with carmelized onions roasted tomatoes and bell.peppers. also a great go to. My son loves all the burgers and quesadillas. But the tex mex is his go to. They recently started serving beer and wine and mimosas. Great atmosphere. TVs with games on. All I can say is....WOW! We had just come from the USC Football Camp and someone recommended this place to my girlfriend. After a long day of hard drills and before our long drive back to San Diego, we took our boys here. I'd drive all the way from San Diego just to come here again! Parking is kind of difficult. My family and I visit at least three times a month to take out and the outdoor dining is carefully designed to ensure the safety of the customers and staff. The manager working this day was so very rude.... But only the manager, Everyone else was so nice! She was not only rude to me, but other customers and even her other employees... it was sad to see. Also, they stopped allowing people to come into into the restaurant at 7:30PM! There was so much business lost and disappointed people turned away... It's summer time and the sun is still fully out at 7:30, and this restaurant is closing its doors in the middle of the day. This manager needs to be replaced in my opinion for this restaurant to survive. She does not fully understand what being a restaurant manager entails... She should be looking out for the best for the restaurants growth, bringing in MORE money, not turning people away when the sun is out and the restaurant next door is still open and busy. And she should be nice to her customers (obviously) and her co-workers shouldn't feel like they are in boot-camp... She did all these things wrong... I stumbled upon Caveman Kitchen while i was on doordash. i gave it a try, and i was so impressed that i had to go visit in person! Located not so far away from USC, it gives you such a different vibe and environment inside you forget you're in LA. They consistently have chickens roasting, which makes the aroma of the restaurant smell delish. They seem to always be busy, but their customer service is still courteous and inviting. i ordered the caveman club sandwich combo. It consists of pulled rotisserie chicken, mayo, veggies, on a yummy toasted bun. the combo comes with fries and a drink. The prices are fair, and the food is filled with a lot of flavor! The only downfall, which is not the restaurants fault, is the parking. They have a small parking lot, but it gets full especially since there are other businesses in the plaza. street parking is kind of tough as well, but you can't expect anything more when it comes to LA joints, you just got to expect the parking will be a mini challenge. The combination of the fries, purple onion, and some herbs is a combination on point. The steaks arr incredibly juicy and the marinated flavor is exquisite. They also have shrimps, and the way thr prepare them is good too. One thing that I enjoyed a lot as a Mexican, is the flavor of the sauces, they were totally yummy hahah. Well, the place is big enough for your party, and one of the things that I truly admire is the customer service, the guy who was with us is very friendly, very attentive, and we all were happy because of that. The green sauce that it comes with also provides a very heated explosion, if you're into that. I've also gotten the Cave Club sandwich, which is pulled rotisserie chicken with bacon, swiss cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. This was also veryyyyyyy good! The chicken is nice and tender. The fries are standard and the chili cheese fries are bomb as well. I would call in my order for pick up if you want it to-go. My friends have raved about their burgers, but I'm not big on red meat anymore so I wouldn't know. Here's what I usually get: Taquitos plate - Made fresh! They put their chicken into these so it's super tasty. Comes topped with cabbage and queso blanco with a side of white rice and black beans. I like to put the rice in the bowl of beans and pour their hot sauces into it. Delish. Chicken Taco - This is why I come here. I came here ALWAYS as a USC student, but I visited recently and they try to charge you extra for anything. First, that horchata drinks cost 50¢ extra than a fountain one, I was like okay whatever. Then, I even tipped them after that (big mistake) because I didn't know what was coming. I had my cave chicken burger after 10 minutes of waiting, and nicely ask the waiter for some BBQ sauce because for 4 years I've put BBQ sauce on my cave burger. Apparently they wanted 50¢ more for that, and it put me in a bad mood and think to myself fuck you this never happened before. Then I tried to get a refill to my already overpriced horchata, and they said it was $1.00 extra for it. If I wanted to eat comfortably, I would've spent about $14 for a mediocre meal and there are WAAAAY better places to get food for $14. Not coming again to a greedy place like caveman where they even count the fries they serve you to not lose a penny over the loyalty of customers. Bad environment as well and the food quality of it should stay under $8. Overpriced for what it offers. read more

Ah I must say, I was a little disappointed with Caveman Kitchen since everyone that praise this place would say that this is one of the best places around USC. Unfortunately, I am very special with Peruvian food since I am from Peru. Their lomo saltado had too many fries and little meat. I guess this place is a mixed of Mexican and Peruvian food which it might have changed its taste. Sadly, it didn't taste like home. It's a shame my first meal here is as a second term senior. Me and my boyfriend got a mushroom burger and lomo saltado for lunch and I'm in love! First off, the Lomo Saltado was not too shabby. We were craving but didn't want to travel all the way to Mario's Peruvian. Although Mario's will always be my favorite, Caveman's version is still satisfying, full of flavor, and cheaper at just under $10 a pop. However, the dish has a little too much liquid for my taste (the bottom of our take out box was deep with the lomo saltado juices). The mushroom burger exceeded my expectations by far. I believe that the bread can make or break a burger, and the bread here was SO good. It wasn't your average sesame bun which I was afraid of, but a perfectly toasty and slightly smokey bun which definitely complimented the beef patty and other ingredients really well. On top of that, the people who work here are really nice and the service is great. Parking might be a bit difficult since the lot is so small, but there is an additional parking lot on the side street as well as street parking spots.
