The Lomo Saltado is absolutely amazing here I would highly recommend getting the green sauce which makes everything better

The Lomo Saltado is once again very delicious and a *MUST TRY* dish when coming to Caveman Kitchen. I ordered this meal w/o the lomo(meat), but I know it would have been a 5/5 stars with the meat. My first time having it, I had the Lomo, but now when I get it, no meat for me. Hahaha. I got extra veggies in place of the meat and the sauce was perfect. The gravy was draped all over the white rice tasting soo dam good! A great gravy goes a long way and C.K absolutely succeeded. I wasn't able to finish the dish for dinner, but I'm definitely having it tomorrow for lunch. I have been here quite a few times but have only tried three different dishes. I have had Lomo Saltado, Pollo Rostizado, and Pollo Criollo. Every one of these dishes has been absolutely delicious. I want to try everything on their menu. The service is always on point. All of the employees are very attentive and friendly. The place is always clean and inviting. Their prices are very reasonable compared to other restaurants with similar menus. If you haven't tried them then you don't know what you're missing. read more

I literally haven't had anything bad here. The garlic and rotisserie chicken is amazing. All the saltado plates are delicious. And that green ají(?) sauce keeps me coming back!! Ugh I hate to give this place three stars. Based solely on taste, they'd get five stars. But I've been so disappointed in recent years. Unfortunately, this place has been heavily afflicted with the phenomenon known as shrinkflation. Before, one could easily make two generous meals, maybe even three light meals, of any of the saltado plates. Now, not so much. It's more like one slightly large meal. And prices have simultaneously gone up! Honestly you can't both increase your prices and give smaller portions - that's just not right. Anyway, I do have to concede that this is my favorite saltado place in Los Angeles. I just hate the way you only get a fraction of what you used to get. Ok, so I've been here before, and thought the food was OK. Had the Lomo saltado before and it was alright. So it's been about a year since I last ate here, and what the heck happen?? My Lomo today was less to be desired. The flavoring was way off, tasted like sour Worcestershire sauce, the potatoes were over fried and tomatoes were over cooked, mushy, the beef was darn right tough. Total disappointment. Co-worker ordered the burger & fries. He said it was just OK. Employees were nice and attentive, interior had a unique decor. Tv's located here and there. Parking lot is under size, so it can be a challenging during the lunch time rush. I'm not sure if this place had a change of ownership or cooks, but I would give this place one more try, to see if they just had a bad day or what. If it's another disappointment, then it would be time to move on. Would normally give 3.5 to 4.0 stars, but today they get 2 stars.....yes, it was that bad. read more

The food was absolutely delicious it had really good flavor, the establishment has a lot of tables. So there is plenty of room to sit. The way it works is when you first walk in you scan the menu, order then you get a number and they bring it to your table. They were super fast. The only downside to this place is the parking situation, it was hard to find some close by on a Sunday. read more

Had a craving for rotisserie chicken and this place did a solid job! We got a half chicken plate $10 and it was definitely a satisfying meal with a good value. You could get the chicken ala carte or with sides. Chicken was juicy and tender (even the breast wasn't dry), not too greasy, and the skin was a crispy plus. Ordered takeout today and had a below average experience. Guy taking my order didn't know if the salad has iceberg lettuce or another type (it was iceberg, waste of a salad and my large side). Also requested more green sauce instead of dressing for this salad... he gave me 5 tiny containers total for 1 whole chicken, fries and a large salad. Wanted to charge me for more green sauce. Not gonna cut it. Large fries were all soggy and underfried. None were crispy. Yes they were warm when I ate them. You know fries aren't well cookes when they soak oil through two bags they are packed in. How hard is it to fry up some decent fries? Minus points. Lastly, they have a B rating from the health department on their door? Not sure what to make of that. Not a huge deal (I eat from carts in Mexico) but it's not a plus point. Caveman Kitchen is a great, chill, group friendly restaurant located not too far from the USC campus. It's located in a strip mall with a good amount of parking spaces. However, there are a number of other business located in the strip mall so parking can get competitive. The restaurant can sometimes get crowded as well so imagine my surprise when my friend and I arrived here on a Friday night to find available seats. But, it did get busier later into the evening. I ordered the lomo saltado, which is a traditional and popular Peruvian dish comprising of beef, onions, tomatoes, and fries and usually served with rice. I was really impressed with the dish. It was fresh, cooked well and seasoned properly. The sirloin was stir-fried with a crispy but still juicy sear. The tomatoes and onions were fresh and the fries were not too soggy from the juice. The service was excellent. Dishes were explained to us thoroughly and the food arrived to our table quickly. I would come back to try the other dishes. If you ever been to Hawthorne you know they have pollo inka out there with great delicious Peruvian food. Since I'm not near Hawthorne and don't work there anymore, I wanted to look for a place that had Peruvian food. I saw they had a lomo saltado which I ordered and my bf ordered saltado de mariscos. We ordered a side order of the aji green salsa. Both food options were delicious! The aji green salsa is spicy. Super spicy I couldn't continue eating it w my food. Was my first and last time trying their rotisserie chicken that shit gotta go !!! , that thing killed my stomach so bad ; i came to eat during lunch and after eating my stomach got a bad burn to it then after few hours after work , got home took a nap cuz i was literally dying. I woke up throwing up DYING all I threw up was that chicken . Then you got the employees just looking at you weird instead of asking you need a refill , mainly it's the young girls . I've driven past this place quite a few times and have been curious about it. Tonight was the night & I'm so glad I went. Cool atmosphere, busy. You order & pay and take a number, and sit down. They bring your food to your table. The menu has many different options. Carne Asada, chicken, burgers. My BF and I decided to try their burgers. My BF had the chili cheese burger. He said it was VERY good. I had the hawaiin burger. Delicious. Both came with fries. Sodas were sold separately. Our bill for 2 people was $26. Not cheap, but the quality of food was good. Produce was super fresh. French fries seemed to be handcut. The burger patties were thick and juicy. We enjoyed our dinner and will definitely return. I have been to Caveman Kitchen many times since I am in the neighborhood. (I have not gone or ordered during Covid times). People in the neighborhood, USC students, and police officers seem to enjoy it. The last time I visited, there was a big party of cops enjoying their meals. I like the caveman motif, and that goes well since they make wood-fired rotisserie chicken. I enjoyed their combo meals since it comes with sides, and I also like the chicken sandwich. Host was very welcoming. Despite the full house, the lomo saltado & signature burger came out fast! Beef was tender and gravy was very flavorful. Surprisingly, the fries remained crispy which really added to the flavor and texture of the dish. Although the green sauce was a bit too spicy, it added a really good bite to the dish.
