I'll start by saying that the best part about this restaurant was the service. Our server was friendly, attentive, and helpful. He made sure to double check which dishes had cilantro in them and made good recommendations for which drinks were more the flavor we were looking for (less sweet). Speaking of the drinks, I would say they were decent and if you do like sweet drinks then you'll probably enjoy them more. The fig margarita had a strong "perfume" like taste, so each sip was off-putting but otherwise the drinks were okay. The food, however, was such a let down. Especially for a place that bases it's existence on tamales, I was disappointed in the quality of them. We had four tamales total, and only one was truly edible (creamy chicken poblano). The others were just mostly masa and limited fillings which is sad because although good masa is important, the fillings should be the star of the show. Also, the portobello one had a strange flavor that we couldn't put our finger on. The other big let down was the salsa and guacamole that tasted straight out of a grocery store jar. I'm not sure how they claim that it's homemade, but there's no way what they served us was not store bought. Do not waste your money on chips & guac/salsa. The beans and rice were also mid, nothing special and also seemed store bought/not homemade. To conclude, if you're looking for a place to just get some drinks before you go somewhere else to eat, I think this would be a fine place to start. But I would not depend on it for a quality, fulfilling meal. read more

After a Yelp Event, I really wanted to bring my husband to try their margaritas and food. He is not exactly a fan of their tamales because he thinks there is too much masa and not enough meat. I personally like them. I really like CDT because you can tell that the owner is very passionate about women empowerment and passionate about her Latin culture and passionate about incorporating this into her business. After a very hard day at work, I just really wanted a margarita and I had a craving for CDT. I just love the cute and quirky aesthetics of CDT. My husband and I arrived and were seated right away. The menu was a simple paper menu. I had the two tacos and bean and rice special. My husband also got the same thing. He tried the carnitas and carne asada tacos and I got the barbacoa and salmon. The meal does come with their own green salsa which had a great spicy kick. I personally did not think it was spicy and asked for more on the side. However, if you are sensitive to spice, please get it without the salsa. I wasn't a fan of chunky beans, but my husband liked it. The food was decently priced at 10.50 for the plate. You can't really find prices like that nowadays. For cocktails, I got the watermelon margarita on the rocks with tajin rim and later, the perfect diez which is an orange creamsicle margarita with sugared rim and a fresh orange and my husband got the Paloma. The watermelon margarita is my favorite after the perfect diez. This will definitely be my go to spot for margs. read more

Such a bad attitude on the phone while trying to get a menu together for a catering. Apparently we were BOTHERING her. I explained to her that we were one of her first customers in the Tower District and got such a great repore going. We moved away for a few years, called them first when we returned because of our great experience before. We wanted them to cater a breakfast for possibly 200 people with their sweet tamales and just got hesitation on the phone like we were very insignificant. So terribly dissapointed. We dont know if their business has grown so much that the original customers don't matter. Just had brunch and it was the BEST BRUNCH in Fresno. Bottomless mimosas with homemade mango and berry purée, chorizo tamales, and chilaquiles. Their food and prices cannot be beat. What happened to CDT ?!?! More than a year ago I was obsessed with this place. The chicken tomatillo tamales were my favorite especially because they weren't spicy and neither was the sauce. I purchased a family meal yesterday for the first time in over a year and I was HIGHLY disappointed. Those tamales are now spicy and so is the sauce... I thought ok I will still eat them and the chicken was super dry and the masa was so thick and just unpleasant, no flavor and just taste like undercooked masa. CDT Cocina has apparently been in the Tower District in Fresno, but we've never been until they moved close to the Tower Theatre. The place is clean with stylish Modern Mexican decor. The staff are attentive and helpful. You order at the counter, then your food and drink come quickly. The food was fresh and unusual in a good way, with creative sauces. We had barbacoa taco and ensalada. Both outstanding. We had two types of "margaritas"-- a house special (CDT) and the Palomo, a twist on the popular Paloma. When I said the bitters tasted floral, Liz brought a new margarita they're launching made with carrot juice and thyme. That drink is great--look forward to The Eye/Opener!
