So dissatisfied and drove from Woodland Hills because I wanted to try them based on the reviews. I do not know how anyone could rate them high. Zero or negative zero customer service. The food was all bad! Bland and tasteless like someone with no seasoning skills said I will cook today. Fish tasteless, hush puppies had a hint of flavor, mac was macnasty, chicken needed lawrys, yams were burnt and it all tasted like four day old left overs. I've been wanting to try them for years! My neighbor recommended them as we live across the street. I ordered wings with two sides and hush puppies to go. I was a little disappointed for a minute as he said he had no dessert. But he came back and said he had peach cobbler. The wings were great as was the mac-cheese and collard greens. Food was ok. The chicken was bland underneath the skin. The Mac and cheese was ok. The greens had good flavor but were too peppery for me. I had a side of yams that came out without any seasoning or sweetening. My friend also had yams and ours were 2 different colors and 2 different tastes...hers were good, mine were not. I also had a side of hush puppies. Those were probably the best things I've had while here. Lastly, I had a side of fried cauliflower. The cauliflower had no flavor at all and needed the sauce it came with to give it flavor. My overall experience wasn't the best and it's not just because of the food. The owner kind of rubbed me the wrong way. He had no sense of customer service. He 1st became offended that I asked if the food was good. He just kept saying "believe all the reviews" & "you came here for a reason". Then he kept cutting me off while ordering. He was very dismissive and a bit passive aggressive. Then to top things off, I asked about a bathrooms and had to go through the kitchen to get there and the floors were so dirty that I couldn't even use the bathroom in fear my pants would touch the floor. Like I said, if you're in a real hurry, you should probably call in to pick up as this is definitely not fast food. Limited seating inside and not too many parking spaces outside, but if you can, eat it there while everything is hot and fresh. My wife and I were looking for some good fried chicken and we found SO MUCH MORE. We walked in and we just knew we had picked the right place. First the dude in the NYC sports gear was so friendly and anticipated what we might want. Once he took our order the food was prepared immediately, so while there is a wait it's worth it. Trust me. You won't be disappointed. The food itself was everything I wanted. The collard greens, red rice, and potato salad were delicious. The Mac and cheese is baked and creamy without sacrificing the structure of the noodles. We started with a crab cake though that surprised me. Clearly it was fresh and prepared in the kitchen. The chicken was fried to perfection but the star of the show was the catfish. I haven't had cat fish this good in over a decade. My friend told me about this restaurant and told her I would try it out. Due to certain occurrences the day I went, the menu was very limited. The traditional full menu was not available which was a disappointment. I ordered the catfish and shrimp with two sides and It was good. They made your order fresh so everything was hot. The catfish/shrimp plate was tender with a tasty seasoned batter. The greens and yams were pleasing. The yams could have been a little more sweet but overall, it was good. The hush puppies were delicious they had a sweet zest to them which was good with the greens. The macaroni and cheese per my mom was good. Fate led my cousin and me here. She had eye surgery 4 minutes away and we both live pretty far from here. I found this place on yelp, so we decided to give it a try. We were the first to arrive at 11:58am, 2 minutes before opening, but they were already in and happy to welcome us. They were so friendly and obviously passionate about what they do. I stopped by for dinner. I had been out all day and I knew I wasn't going to cook when I got home. I'd heard of this place and passed it dozens of times. I received very special service from the owner. He made suggestions and I ordered the catfish dinner with black eyed peas with rice and brussel sprouts. The food was so good, I called and spoke with the owner and complimented his food while I was eating it. The Brussels were fried with a sweet tasting glaze and pumpkin seeds sprinkled on them. The catfish was fresh, fried to order and seasoned just right. It was amazing. I loved the mix of rice and black eyed peas. There was a juicy stewed tomato that I bit down on that changed my world. It was juicy and oh so seasoned. The dish had micro bits of crunchy veggies on top that just made it that much better. This was one of the best meals I've had. Thank you Cealo and staff.
