My favorite day to come here is on a Sunday! There's usually no line and the servers are pretty on point at this location. I usually dine here when meeting OC friends since it's almost a middle point from LA to OC. The meat quality here is pretty good and I usually pay the extra few dollars for the upgraded meat selection just for the pork jowl and beef fingers! Yelp 100 Challenge 2017 12/100 I've been here a number of times but for some reason I've never reviewed this place. I like it so much better than some of the other all you can eat barbecue places *ahem cough Gen*. The brisket is good, regardless of how many plates you order. Their pork belly is also very juicy and delicious, as is their spicy shrimp. I also love the fact that their soups are nice and spicy and not watered down. They also have free Thrifty ice cream. This restaurant also has excellent service, which is rare at an Asian restaurant, particularly an all you can eat place. The service is fast, they come by frequently to check on what you need, and they are very friendly about it. Their prices are also very reasonable. The all you can eat my knee starts at $18.99, which is enough variety for me. I will have to remember to come here more often. read more

My wife and I have been coming here for a few years now and love this place. The food is great and the staff are all friendly and accommodating. We were saddened they had to close down due to the pandemic, but are thrilled to see that they have re-opened and provide the same great quality of food and service. Their selection of meats were limited, even though we got the B set that was more expensive. Not bad for a Saturday night. LOCATION: Conveniently located behind a flashy Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour, Cham Soot Gol provides a traditional KBBQ experience in a perfectly sized restaurant. I'm not going to say this place is fancy or super duper clean because let's face it... it's impossible to keep an indoor BBQ joint clean. Once you walk in, you can feel the slippery floors and smell the bulgogi and brisket in the air. FOOD: Our group ordered the 17.99 dinner which was good enough for all of us! It has many choices of meats, we ordered 7 different ones and were totally satisfied! You have to ask for a side of rice and egg soups etc. Everything we tasted was delicious and they gave us perfect amounts of every meat! Also, the ice cream is self-serve! Can't beat that deal! I can definitely say I'm a local at this restaurant. The place itself is fantastic and the customer service is great. They always make sure to have a high chair for my baby without even asking. They also frequently ask if you need anything else and remove any unwanted plates/trash from your table during your whole meal. Which is helpful if you have a toddler who is constantly trying to grab everything. The chocolate ice cream is my favorite. I would recommend going as soon as they open or before they close because it is not much of a wait at those times. Lots of parking around the area which is good. read more

We went here for the all you can eat buffet for dinner. There are 2 pricing structures, the $21 and the $24 dollar one. I would suggesting you pay a little bit more and go for the $24 dollar one as you get a lot more choices like the beef fingers, the short ribs, the seasoned pork, I am sure there is more. There was 2 of us and there are so much we can eat. You can get the small option, but they do give you a lot of meat. We ordered the following 1. Beef Tongue 2. Short Ribs 3. Beef Fingers 4. Pork I can not remember what else we got, but it was quite a bit of meat. I do like their potato salad, seasoned lettuce and pickles. Their all you can eat (AYCE) Korean BBQ dinner option, $16.99, includes an array of meats (beef, pork, chicken), a choice of tofu soup, bean paste stew or steamed egg pot, and a tasty selection of banchan (Korean side dishes). My favorite grilled items were the well marbled fatty beef brisket and the generously sliced pork belly. The beef brisket was very tender and juicy. This is usually not so with freeze dried meats. The flavor of the pork belly was outstanding, probably my favorite this night. The kimchi was excellent! It tasted like it was just beginning to ripen, perhaps a week old. I prefer more aged, sour kimchi only when it is cooked. The tofu soup or Soondubu is usually an after-thought at these Korean BBQ places, but I found the soup here to be hearty and the broth was very flavorful and soothing. My only real disappointment with their AYCE was the noticeable lack of seafood options that most other Korean BBQ places offer. Their $19.99 dinner option includes the addition of beef tongue and offal (tripe), but no seafood. This new location is clean and very well maintained. It is spacious and well ventilated around the cooking grills. The service was excellent! The young staff of mostly bilingual servers seem equally adept at speaking Korean and English. I found them all to be very friendly, patient, attentive and hospitable. There was also free Thrifty ice cream! Four flavors to choose from: green tea, mint chip, strawberry and chocolate. Perfect mix of everything. And it is open late, if your in the mood for a midnight quickie. Located on Beach Blvd in a large shared lot. Plenty of parking and plenty of seating to accomondate guests. There is a huge line for the club next door that I mistook for the KBBQ. After 11:00pm, this place is pretty quiet. To me this is one of the better AYCE KBBQs, but not the best for under $20.00. The price has gone up during the years and it is $17.99 now. The service is more attentive than the $10 and $12.99 KBBQS in the area with a better mix of bachans. The quality of meat is alright. As we continued to eat more and more, the meat got a little chewy. The dipping bowl for the meat was great to marinate everything in before we cooked it. We usually stick to the beef brisket, bbq Pork, bogolgi, chicken and the veggies. The scissors are necessary to cut the meat into smaller pieces, so you don't have to pack it all into your mouth at once. 16.99 AYCE Korean BBQ with virtually no wait?! WooHoo!!! You can't go wrong with that! Especially when you get ENDLESS delectable meats like Cham's famous thinly sliced brisket, perfectly marinated bulgogi and mouthwatering pork belly! I've had this place bookmarked for awhile now, but after reading Fia R's review, my curiosity was piqued ever since. I decided to round up a few of my hungry buddies Friday night to celebrate Tuan C's Graduation with a night of endless gorging and ice cold Hite! I called in advance to ensure there was no obnoxious wait, and to my surprise, at 8:30pm they replied with a mere 10 minute wait! As soon as our group arrived, we waited for about 10 minutes, and as promised we were quickly seated and served almost instantaneously! I love myself some efficient and speedy service! Especially when i'm Hungrrrry! The restaurant still looked fairly new and it was similarly sized to the GG location with plenty of comfy booths and large tables to accommodate various sized crowds. Of course, there were large air vents above each table to suck up all that grilling smoke that could easily end up all over your clothes! As I quickly glanced over the menu, I noticed there were two choices for AYCE (All You Can Eat): Option 1. 16.99 (Pork Belly, Brisket, Spicy Marinated Pork, Chicken and Bulgogi) Option 2. 19.99 (Included ALL of the $16.99 selections plus three types of Beef "Offal" (AKA Intestines - yeah pretty "awful" indeed, lol), Beef Tongue, and bulgogi with a soy based broth) There were also BBQ Combo specials for: $49.99, $89.99, and $129.99, respectively. The 129.99 combo actually included juicy rib eye steak! YUM! However, keep in mind these combos are NOT AYCE. Since we were a big hungry group of guys, we opted for the 16.99 option and used the mulah we saved for more bottles of Hite beer! Uh huh, you know what it is! Service was friendly and prompt, which was great! Not a moment passed that they didn't stop by to see if we wanted more meats or wanted our grill changed! With that said, the meats were indeed tender and juicy, with my notable favorites being the brisket (grill it 'til the skin gets slightly crisp, i bet you'll love it!, marinated bulgogi and juicy pork belly-MMMMMMM!) I didn't try the chicken or spicy pork because i rarely do chicken cuz it gets too dry for me and the spicy pork seasoning is usually too salty, which is not my bag. The egg pot was fluffy & pillow-y soft and they had all my favorite banchan side dishes like the dressed salad bowl, kim chi cucumbers, cold noodles, rice wraps, bomb.com potato salad, and marinated fried tofu. With the exception of the tofu soup, which smelled like a stinky "wet rag," everything else was delicious! What was also noteworthy were the dipping sauces. They provided two: a thick chili based sauce and a soy based garlic dipping sauce. both were perfectly flavorful and thank goodness, no yucky oil based salt dip. I Can't stand that stuff! Oh, and the added kicker was the clay pot marinade they placed on the table for the pork belly! That "crack" marinade was awesomely flavorful and i found myself dipping the other meats, namely the brisket, into it, as well and it gave the brisket a instant flavor punch! Outstanding! Finally, after all that hearty food, a true Chams regular will always save room for the refreshing ice cream at the end! They typically carry four different flavors. Last night was no exception with chocolate, butter pecan, green tea, and strawberry being the choices for the evening. (Boo! No Birthday Cake flavor as another Yelper mentioned recently) I made myself, however, an "Asian Style Spumoni" with The Green Tea-Chocolate-Strawberry flavors! How was it you ask? I like barbeque, especially when it's Korean. I am a fan of all-you-can-eat places because you do not have to worry about what to order or taking home leftovers. This location at Buena Park was unknown to me until my co-worker told me about it. I have been to the Garden Grove and Rowland Heights locations. They are always jam packed, and the wait time for large groups is always at least an hour. This restaurant was also crowded on a Friday night, but for four people, the wait was not longer than 45 minutes. During my visit, my party loaded up on brisket. If you don't know what it is, it's like thinly sliced beef with 50% of the piece being fatty. It is not marinated, so it's a great way to start off the grilling. We decided on going with the cheaper plan because we were not going to order any of the other meats. The bulgogi is alright; I don't think I'll get that here again. I think I ate all the shrimp that we ordered.. What stood out about the meal was the non-meat dishes that I ordered. The steamed egg is a must order; I love that stuff. Another must try was the kimchi fried rice. They overload on the sesame oil; it was so oily, but so good. I suggest coming with a group of friends so that you can pig out together. Make sure the meat doesn't go to waste! The biggest plus about Cham is the free Thrifty ice cream after your meal. They usually offer four flavors, and I am a fan of the green tea flavor! Back in the good ol days before there was Gen and these new kbbq places, Cham sut gol in garden grove was THE kbbq spot to be! It was late after my friends & I left the OC Auto Show and we were craving kbbq. The garden grove location closed early, but this location was opened til midnight so we decided to go here since it was closeby anyway. I have been here before around the time when they first opened, but for some reason EVERYTHING was perfect the night we went (10/3/13). Customer service was beyond exceptional especially since we arrived pretty late too (around 9/10pm). The guy servers here are really friendly, fast, and never once show that they are overwhelmed. Trust, we were like hungry hippos asking for refills this and that, ordering more and more meats, but everything was delivered promptly. The meats here are REALLY REALLY fresh compared to other kbbq places I've been to. You definitely can taste the quality difference. I also do like that they have ServSafe certificates of the workers posted on the wall (makes me feel more at ease that they actually care about sanitation & safety) LOVE the side dishes here. They've got the broccoli, FISH CAKE, spicy cucumbers, bean sprouts, kim chi, etc. Anyway our group decided to go with the 19.99 dinner AYCE package and pretty much got to sample almost everything on the menu Tofu soup & egg pot - Most of the time the tofu soups are hit or miss at AYCE places, but here it was really good. The egg pot came out beautifully and fluffy. None of the soup or egg pots were overly salty like it usually would be. We all scarfed it down and cleaned our bowls 'cause it was that good. Brisket - ZOMG everyone & their mom knows I hate brisket and rarely eat it at ayce kbbq places. C'mon it's the most boring and thinnest meat. HOWEVER, Cham is the only place I will eat brisket at because that's how good it is. The meat doesn't come out all frozen and I'm not sure where they get their brisket, but it's always moist & tender after it's done cooking. I also like that unlike most AYCE places, Cham doesn't give your table a HUGE plate of brisket in hopes to fill up your stomach space so that you won't have room to try other meats. The portion size here is perfect and there is definitely good marbling on the brisket here. In fact, we ordered 2 plates of this. Wrap it up in that radish paper and dunk it into the sauces, you'll be good to go. Short rib on bone & Sliced short rib - The bone in short ribs looked small, but they were packed w/ flavor. I believe the bone in one is marinated in sesame oil which really makes the flavors pop! I would say skip the sliced short ribs and get the marinated bone in short rib. Beef Tongue - FRESH FRESH FRESH! I like how the tongue here is sliced into perfect sizes. I've had tongue at other ayce places, but it ends up being dry after grilling. However, the tongue here is very different and one of the best for an AYCE place. Just like the brisket, it was tender and melt in your mouth. HIGHLY recommend this dish, we ordered 2 plates of it Bulgogi - If you're a bulgogi fan like me, you'll LOVE the bulgogi here. It's not overly sweet and I appreciate that the dish that it comes out in isn't drenched in sauce/marinade (as you can see in my pics). Very tender and lean yet flavorful and juicy, I didn't have to do much scissor work like I would at other places. Shrimp - Most of the time we don't order shrimp at AYCE cause it comes out dry and just not flavorful, but as you can guess.....THE SHRIMP HERE WAS OFF DA HOOK! They were big, but grilled up nicely and didn't come out dry after being grilled. In fact, it was juicy and easy to peel, everyone loved it Bulgogi in soy based broth - MAKE SURE YOU SAVE ROOM FOR THIS! This was a really great dish, but the downfall is that they serve this as your last dish because it requires a totally different grill to hold the broth. We were already at max capacity, but the lil piggy in me still ordered it because I wanted to try it. Luckily the server was able to give this to us w/out the noodles YAY :D The bulgogi comes out unmarinated and you just grill it then dip it in the broth and grill some more. I really liked this dish & wished I had more room for it. ICE CREAM!! Damn I swear this place should be called CHAMP soot gol. The ice cream here was better than the GG location. There was rocky road, pistachio, green tea, strawberry, AND coffe! I made like 3 trips to ice cream and guess what? The server supplied me w/ a new clean cup and spoon so that I could scoop the ice cream in how awesome is that? :) I wished this location was open for lunch! Did I mention how great the service and food here was? Honestly, I would rather drive a bit further to go here instead of Gen or the other Cham. I won't be speaking out of my butt as I write this, but the owner is a GENIUS with coming up with an extraordinary formula that you can add 1. All you can eat Korean BBQ with 2. Excellent service equals satisfied and loyal customers. In the 2000 decade, it was impossible to find great service (especially for the younger customers) at Korean restaurants. Trust me I know, I've experienced many and it ruined the whole dine-in experience for me and the people I was with. Mr. Lee's in Cerritos, Mae Dang Sae in Lakewood, and especially at Nel Bom in Stanton and Hwang So Go Jip in La Palma were and still are mediocre to bad. And if you don't believe me, check out the reviews. To be on the safe side and not fall victim to terrible service, come here. Sure you may be paying more, but it's definitely worth not having the rude glares, mumbling behind your back, and the obvious "I don't want to serve you" body language. IMO, the $9.99 AYCE is a trap to lure you in, make you eat as little as possible with bad service, and move on to the next customers. The food here levels with the service. Each person gets to choose a side entrée of steamed egg, spicy tofu stew, or soybean stew. I get the spicy tofu. The taste is unique compared the usual spicy tofu stew if you eaten it before. The downside is you only get to choose one... I go for Combo A which is $16.99 with fewer choices than Combo B $19.99. Get the usual brisket, pork belly, and bulgogi (marinated beef slices). Did I mention the sauce? Before the server brings out the meat, he/she brings out a bowl of sauce in which you're supposed to marinate the pork belly in before you cook. It's flavorful and you don't just get the taste of pork in your mouth. It's the real deal and not a lot of Korean BBQ places offer it. And of course there's ice cream. Real ice cream. Not the soft serve ice cream. Perfect for ending your meal with a treat. The sliced SHORT RIB no bone - by itself gets 5 stars. If they served nothing else I would give it 5 stars. The marbling of the beef is ridiculously awesome. It cooks up so tender and juicy I can't believe it. I like the bulgogi too! 6:30pm on a weekend; there's a line out the door. Come early! We arrived at 5:00 with a large party of 10 and got a table immediately. By 6:00 the place was full. By 6:30 there were people waiting out the door and into the parking lot. Service: great! They kept the orders coming and changed the grill when needed. THRIFTY Ice cream for dessert! sugar cone; cake cone; AYCS (all you can scoop) What!? That's over the top! Cham Soot Gol is one of my favorite ayce KBBQ. Why? They have unlimited ice cream, offer complimentary soup of your choice, and the best darn potato salad ever! Along with that, the meat is amazing. My usual order are the basics: brisket, pork belly, bulgogi, chicken. I can literally eat brisket and pork belly for DAYS. There are many side dishes but I stick to the salad, jap chae, potato salad, and fish or tofu looking thing cut in rectangles. I believe there are 3 soups to choose from: egg, tofu, and bean paste. I prefer egg because it's easy to eat and cools off quick. Tofu is good too but a lil spicy. My only complaint is that the bathroom is grimy but eh whatever I came here to review the food. Simplicity at its best here. You can get the $16.99 deal. It comes with banchan like potato, cucumber kimchi, sprouts, tofu, leaf lettuce. You can choose meats like bulgogi, brisket, marinated chicken or pork, and pork belly. Not much choice but good enough. It also comes with a soup. I always get the egg soup. It's like a giant chawanmushi. Also the soda here is only $1. Bargain. Some of the items you will have to ask for is the Dduk, Muu, regular kimchi, salt and sesame oil. The meat here for the price is ok. The brisket , though is frozen is the best here. Some of the marinated meat like the pork is too salty for my pallet . Don't forget to get a scoop of the semi soft rite aid ice cream before you leave. Don't park your car across the lot at the clothing shop, according to the owners. We were served a lot of sides like your standard kimchi and bean sprouts along with a big bowl of salad. We also had the choice of three different kinds of soups we could chose from and we went with the tofu soup. It was spicy but a good spicy not too spicy that you cant even enjoy it. There are two all you can eat plans, Plan A for $16.99 and the B plan for $19.99. If you are crazy about pork ribs then you are going to have to go for plan B because there are no ribs choices in plan A. We were quite satisfied with the plan A meal. We tried all the spicy marinated meats and all were very good. I especially loved their spicy shrimp and pork belly. The waitress suggested a couple of non spicy marinated meats and she was nice enough to only bring us smaller portions just so we had a chance to try them all. We were quite content by the end. There were 4 choices of soft serve ice cream vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and I want to say green tea because it was green but it did not taste like mint. The ice cream was a nice touch at the end. I dint get what all the hype is about. For $16.99 you get what you pay for, but I would appreciate it if this place had quality. I thought the food tasted bland. Service was really good. It's been awhile since I dined at a KBBQ restaurant. After a long day in LA, we came back starving and decided to have dinner here. They are located on Beach in the plaza with Farrell's Ice Cream and Tacos La Calle. We got here around 9pm and it was super crowded. Initially, the wait time was 25 minutes but, we got seated in less. The servers are friendly and accommodating once you flag them down. When you get to the table, the banchan (sides) are already set up. You are served 5-6 varieties: seaweed salad, bean sprouts, potato salad, spicy cucumbers, broccoli, cold clear noodles, and fish cake. Of course, there's the bowl of tossed salad. There's no kim chi which is a bit different. The rice paper is available upon request. The AYCE menu comes in Group A: $19.99 or Group B: $22.99. Alcohol options: soju and beer. You are limited to 3 meat plates at one time. Round 1: thin sliced pork belly and brisket. Round 2: Marinated beef bugolgi. The meat quality is really good. The sauce is delicious for dipping your grilled meat. You will leave here stuffed and happy. Stop at the self serve ice cream station for some dessert before exiting. This is everything I love about kbbq. All you can eat for a reasonable price and great banchan. Some of my favorite meats were: short rib, bulgogi, spicy pork. I thought the bulgogi marinade was really tasty. Some of my favorite sides were glass noodles (great flavor and texture), fish cakes, and kimchi. I've been to Cham Soot Gol twice and have left satisfied and extremely full both times. I love this place because 1. the prices for AYCE KBBQ are definitely affordable compared to other KBBQ places and 2. free ice cream at the end (that you get to scoop yourself!!) I would recommend the galbi - it was my favorite because it was marinated super well and it was so tender, it was like eating butter. My family and I also ordered beef tongue, brisket (a must), pork belly, etc. The list of meat options is long and there are also a bunch of non-meat dishes you can order as well like the steamed egg, soup, salad, etc. that comes with the meal. At the end of your meal, you can get up and scoop your own ice cream (thrifty brand AKA the best brand of ice cream). They have green tea, chocolate, and vanilla. This is our go to spot! Although the wait is long, it's totally worth ithe service and staff are great and always friendly. Their sides are hands down the best! That mac/potato salad and the sweet potato noodles are my favorite! It's also well ventilated so you won't be choking and your eyes won't be burning from any smoke like I have experienced at other places. I wanted to try the one in garden grove because I saw all the great reviews for that area.But I'm so glad my bf yelped it and then noticed that this one was super close to our hotel! (Had no idea that it was a chain) We tried to call ahead to see if they had a spot for 9 people, (it's a wednesday night) and they said they were packed! WAH, and you couldn't put your name over the phone...so we said ok....and luckily we weren't that hungry yet, and went there at 9 and luckily there was space. But the table wasn't one big one but two next to each other since the tables had their own lil fire thing. Guess that was ok. So we were debating on getting AYCE or not, since we had lil kids with us and thought they would waste AYCE, but after some math, AYCE is practically the same price as ONE DISH! sold! The banchan was already set for us, and omg looked so good. The fish cake wasn't that good =[ but the clear noodles were yummy and the pickled cucumber were delish! The fluffy egg dish is okay, good to eat with the meat, not a fan of bean paste soup, their tofu soup is ok...too...sour? So much meat to eat yumyum, but i think i've been spoiled by korean food in korea, esp when its cooked and grilled by koreans. AND they didnt have the korean paste thing that tastes so much better with meat and lettuce wrapped. Their pork belly though...had too much fat, not enough meat. The brisket was the popular one, chicken was eh. their beer was only $5 for a bottle, decent size too! Their cocktail soju came in a cute lil bottle, but it was yummy. Oh and i must say service is AWESOMEEEEE. The waiters were so quick, and attentive, and they are young too! We joked that this will be our go to spot everytime we come here now. More like 3.5 ***. The price is good. There are two dinner choices. The $17.99 AYCE or the $19.99. I'll get the 19.99, it has more selection, ENOUGH SO, to make the price difference worth it. The beef rib meat fingers are tasty and a bit chewy, I like chewy bits. The garlic pork slices were surprising good. This is a good place. Good selection. Good service (staff are young, and totally get you don't know what half the stuff is on the menu, our servers were pretty cool about answering our questions and quickly got our requests) AND I love pressing the call button. It so cool to have a buzzer to get your server. What other types of restaurant has that? Been to about a dozen Korean BBQ around OC, LA, Riverside, and I am glad a lot of new places are getting better, which I think forces other places to up their game. Been to both locations (GARDEN GROVE), a few times each, and I like them both. Just depends on where I'm at during that craving for endless meat. Yum. I believe when in Buena Park, after a long day with the kid at Knotts, this is a perfect place to get some rest and relaxation. Nothing is more relaxing than bbq meat in the middle of your dining table. Brilliant. Afterwards, when you think your stomach is about to burst, go get some unlimited self serve ice cream. You definitely can't go wrong with this AYCE Korean BBQ! It's a really good deal for what you pay for. The last time I came, I tried the cheaper of the two dinners, and it was perfect. The meat came out quickly, and the service was great! There are a few TVs around, but not enough for every single guest to watch something. Be prepared to stink like BBQ after your meal.
