Excellent steak house off the main drag in Fort Collins. This place is the real deal if you want to get your beef where the locals eat.

We were told we needed to come here by a friend who had gone to school in the area, and we're glad we did. The place is pretty old (1957) and you can imagine it hasn't changed at all since. It has a very cool bar area that makes you feel like you're at splash mountain. Wood is everywhere. The service was great, and the food very good as well. I would definitely recommend stopping here if coming through town. read more

We have been coming here for years and it's always been very consistent. My personal favorite is the lobster, but I also enjoy the steak kabob. The mushroom gravy is sooo yummy. I love the house salads with the chex mix and poppy seed vinaigrette. Also, the baked potatoes are something we have tried to replicate time and time again. As another reviewer mentioned, the peanut butter pie is something that shouldn't be missed. Keep in mind, this is a very old building and most of the staff has been there as long as I can remember. We are not from the area and parking is an issue when traveling cross country with everything you own so we saw this place with epic parking so we tried it. Looks can be deceiving and it is true with this place. What a gem! The quality of food is on point. My husband and I split the 2 6oz filets. The side salad has chex on it instead of croutons (awesome) then the mashed is heaven in your mouth. Also tried the green chili Colorado. My tummy is so happy. The portions were perfect, our waiter Jason (ask for him) even offered us a small sample of the peanut butter pie for dessert after we told him we tried but didn't have the room. I was presently surprised. See you for breakfast tomorrow. That green chili is calling my name over eggs, potatoes and tortillas. Just saying, if it's not on the menu it should be. Order a buffalo burger and got a patty the size of a McDonalds chicken nugget. Talked to manager and he said that's what you get. Over priced $9 patty what a rip off. And the service sucks. They completely ignore you even before I talked to them about the burger problem. I don't recommend this restaurant. read more

A great family steakhouse place, and just the right end to a day of entertainment for my out-of-town relatives. It was busy because of Father's Day, and we got a table without hassle even when we rolled up without a reservation. It was worth a laugh when one of us got her dinner salad with CHEX as the garnish rather than the usual ho-hum croutons. I liked the wagon-wheel chandelier over the cashier's desk, with light streaming through the ceiling. When I'm exploring up in the northern areas again, this will be a possibility for a stop. read more

Eh this place looked cool from the outside but from the inside it was just a space restricted Denny's. The wait staff were definitely nice and attentive. The food though, it was good but still over priced. The buffalo tenders as an appetizer was a joke. 3 pieces just a little larger than small but not quite medium sized. The guacamole burger...ummm what guacamole!!! The Berger itself tasted good and for once in my life was cooked to specification. I liked it other than them completely gipping me on the guacamole. My mom on the other hand who had the same thing was disappointed. They had good crispy onion rings and fries though so that was a plus. Very disappointed. My wife's chicken kabob was a strip of chicken with gravy. That's it. Horrible. My steak was horrible. Couldn't even eat it. Tough and terrible tasting. A 40 dollar lunch that was unbeatable. Nobody cares hear either. Never again. If I was you don't waste your time. read more

The locals seem to be divided on this "icon" of Mulberry Street (Hwy 14). People either love it or hate it. After 20 years, I thought I'd give it another shot. First of all, I'd like to say that the staff was very friendly and accommodating, but the food was nasty. From my dinner roll to my steak, everything tasted off. Nothing tasted fresh. The roll had that slightly sour taste bread gets when it's kept too long in a plastic bag. The fries were dripping with oil and the meat tasted and smelled improperly handled. Kinda like the odor you smell when walking by a dumpster. I ordered a "Club Steak" (Thick sirloin), medium-rare. I got raw meat with a burnt exterior. Due to the off aroma, I sent it back. The second steak was cooked the same, raw & cold in the middle and burnt/tough on the outside. Did I mention the musty smell of old building that assaults you when you walk in the door? The Charco Broiler is like a time capsule into the golden age of steak houses ca. 1965. Years ago when FoCo was dry, this place outside the city limits was the go-to place for good food and drinks. Mom and I chose lighter fare this time: the prime rib salad did not disappoint. Unfortunately, we noticed the ad for half-price bottles on Winesday-Wednesday or we might have lingered longer. Havent been to CB in 34 yrs and its still just as good. Been to several other of the best steak houses in the area and had the best at CB. Service was alittle slow but they were busy (day before the 4th). Price for two steak dinners drinks and appetizers came to about $65.00. This was less then the other restaurants. I don't understand the better ratings from people for this place. I'm giving it 2 stars just because the baked potato was good. It is actually oven baked to perfection. The steaks were not to brag about, less than great cuts of meat and one was so tough it had to saw through it with the steak knife. The salad was a bunch of slightly brown iceberg lettuce with a few pieces of leaf lettuce, carrots and red onion, topped with corn chex. Service was decent. The interior is horrible. Dark, dank and weird. Go to Texas Roadhouse instead. It's cheaper and the food is so much better. read more

Wow...pleasantly surprised! The place looks a little sketchy from the outside, no windows, low profile, and dark. The inside matches the outside for sure, however, I kinda liked it...total cowboy vintage. There were plenty of locals there, which is always a good sign. My husband and I both had the filet, they were solidly a good cut of meat, good flavor and cooked perfectly. Mind you, these fillets were not melt in your mouth..I would give them a B++ (my husband graded his A-)...and definitely worth the money! Our waitress was superb. She was attentive and friendly and very accommodating for our split order! My husband loved chex on the salad..says he wants chex on every salad he has from here on out! We were staying at the Best Western next door (posted a review on that experience on yelp too), so we decided to try Charco's breakfast as well. Don't judge a book by its cover I'm always looking for a good steakhouse. My wife & I were traveling through on our way to Cheyenne Wyoming from Denver by way of Fort Collins. This was a very good lunch choice for us. We read a lot of the reviews about Charco & for most part it's true. The decor is definitely stuck in the 50's. But when it comes to the food & I'm guessing that's the reason you're there in the first place, it's unmatched even by some of the finest establishments. Of course just having the one meal, I can't speak for all the dishes. We ordered 2 petite bacon wrapped tenderloins. If you're like me & enjoy a tender piece of meat, let's just say, I wouldn't have any trouble driving 50 miles or more for lunch. The web page says he cuts & trims the steaks, & for just the 2 we had, kudos to the butcher. Overall our meal was delish & would highly recommend. I only have one regret & that's not having some of that Peanut Butter Cream Pie. I was tempted & ask the waitress. It sounds wonderful but, I had no room at the inn. In conclusion , if the carnivore in you is making you anxious , this place is a cure. Somebody let me know how the heck that pie is? read more

We came in for lunch and it wasn't super busy. Being a party of 6, the host decided to sit us at a tiny table with additional chairs instead of the round table that seated 6. Kind of bizarre but we ran with it. It took a while for a server to come and ask about drinks or even give us menus. Once we ordered, things went a little better as food came out in a timely manner. Again, waiting on the server, it took a long time to both get the checks, for her to come back and collect credit cards, and to return them for signatures. The service just wasn't there and this is definitely NOT the place for a quick meal. Additionally, there was not a single drink refill so just the 1 water glass each. The food was decent, a good price and the ambiance is pretty "old school" and reminiscent of old bars that you would see in movies. That by itself is worth visiting the one time. Awful service and food. We have been going there over 25 years and the quality of food gets worse and worse over time. . We ordered a medium steak and it came out well done, a hockey puck. I never complain but this time sent it back. I waited 20 mins and they brought out a steak that was virtually raw!! It was awful, I didn't say a word to the server because it appears it wouldn't matter. . The waitress had a bad attitude. We were very pleasant and even joked with her and she had such a bad attitude. The worst part is we just lost our dad, who went here for years and went there yesterday to honor him. To start off this was mine and my families first experience with this restaurant. We decided to come here for my fathers birthday party. We read the reviews before our visit and I read all the back to 2013. There was a mix of both good and bad. There wasn't ani in between. Our visit was exceptionally good! Our server, although we never got her name was super pleasant! She was quick and talked with us as well as her other tables from what I could see. After getting our drinks and taking our orders, she was quick about everything. The onion was super delicious. Now we all got steaks and we order medium to medium well and everything came perfectly cooked and steaming hot. Everything was good, flavorful, and above expectations. Ton finish everything off they gave us a giant slice of pie for my fathers birthday. Now this is a favorable experience and our first but it was good nonetheless. Thank you! P.S. Charco Broilers hidden little gem ... is their cream Pies! These are the best cream pies you'll find in the area. Banana cream, coconut cream, peanut butter cream pie and more. Ask your server for your favorite ... BEFORE you finish dinner because they often run out. their pies are made fresh daily and they NEVER disappoint. These are not your typical diner or chain store frozen pies these are fresh, handmade pies! I only wish they would branch out into seasonal fruit pies! The other steak dishes were far too expensive which is why I chose this. And the mushroom gravy on the side must've been made from a powdered mix. Yuck. Recommended by a local, I could not personally recommend it. I had the New York strip steak with the mix vegetables. First I did not care for the Chex cereal on top of the salad. Second my steak was undercooked which did not bother me they cooked it more and it was perfect but it had no flavor and was very tough. The mixed vegetables were just OK When I ordered I did not specify the smaller strip steak so they brought me the large one, my mistake. What can I say, This place has gone downhill. My parents and I have been going here for years and sadly the quality has gone down so much and today was our tipping point. We went there for Mother's Day at around 11:15am. Come to find out after we are seated after waiting for 10 mins that lunch was not being served till Noon because "it would be too hard." First off that is a joke. I have been many places who are fine with it. Just a lazy restaurant. So we end up ordering breakfast to our dismay. It took over 15 mins to get our orders in and at this point, the restaurant wasn't too busy. We all ordered Steaks and Eggs (another reason why lunch shouldn't be hard to make if steaks are on the breakfast menu). We waited a FULL HOUR for our steaks and eggs (restaurant still wasn't as busy as it was when we got in as there was no wait and open tables). My mom's steak thank goodness was great, myself and my dads were both gritty and not good. And add to that our server took forever to get refills. I also got white bread instead of my ordered sourdough. All in all myself and my family are done with this place. The qulaity has gone down way to much and we can get better steak and service at like a Texas Roadhouse. read more

We loved this restaurant! We sat in a wood and brick half circle booth. It was a really cute old school steakhouse with amazing food and service. Jason waited on us and was a very attentive and personable server. We actually discovered we grew up not terribly far from each other back East. He had another table come in whom he greeted by name, so I'm assuming he has a lot of regulars. I had king crab and a ribeye, which was delicious. But the most amazing part of the meal was the coconut cream pie I shared with my daughter. It was huge and ridiculously delicious. We are just visiting, but would recommend checking it out to others. Solid- Classic-Straight up Steakhouse-not trying to be anything new or creative but just Classic Steaks, baked potatoes and more!! I ate here 2x in 5 days so that tells you it satisfies- I like to support locally owned one of a kind restaurants!! The service from the gal who seated us to our waitresses were all super friendly and very good at their job ! Love the interior- old woods-metal accents-QUIET- the set-up feels relaxing and you can carry a conversation without having to yell or be drowned out by some obnoxious music. I came at lunch both times but they do open for breakfast at 6am- Ordered the Classic Steak Sandwich- baked potato was one of the best I have had at a restaurant in a long time-done all the way thru and not overdone on the bottom or hard in places- Steak cooked as I asked- My waitress gave me a fresh cup of coffee instead of just putting hot coffee on top of cold.. I was pleasantly surprised when we walked in to the restaurant. Our waitress was very nice and as my husband called her, a "water ninja". Our drinks never ran low. I started out the meal with the onion soup---which was amazing. The husband had a cheeseburger and I had the steak tips bourguignon. My husband said his burger was okay and I was expecting my dinner to be better. While my dish was delicious, it was chopped stewed beef with buttered linguine noodles and sour cream on the side.
