The seating at the restaurant is so close to the other tables that your experience is easily listened to be everyone around. The rib eye steak was 50% full of fat, gross pieces really that was pupu style chopped up. We sent back the oysters after strange taste and we did not want to change getting sick. We were celebrating a birthday and father's day. The ending was absolutely unbelievable. I purchased a gift card and paid for 4 people on a single bill. I left half the tip on my card, and the remainder was to be left in cash on the table. Right before leaving the manager came out to ask how it service was.. then he said, I'm wondering because we want to make sure our waiter gets paid fairly and we noticed your to left was way below the tip rate. Seats and table were a bit sticky and the interior is a bit rundown. Some of the ambiance issues weren't the fault of the restaurant. There was scaffolding around the building when we were there and that area near the boat basin had a couple folks hanging around who were clearly suffering from substance abuse or mental health issues and acting erratically (police got involved). read more

This is a great special occasion spot. The food is delicious but pretty expensive and the service was good. The reason I had to dock a star is because of the price of their old fashioned drink. My boyfriend loves old fashioneds, and he ordered 3 of them even though they weren't on the menu. When he saw the bill, they were each $27!!! That is pretty insane, considering that they also came in a glass that is smaller than a normal old fashioned glass. And for some weird reason the drink came out different every time. The first time it had no orange slice or cherry but by the last one it had both. If I came back with just my man or girlfriend I would definitely want to come for sunset and request to sit next to the harbor. And definitely not order any old fashioneds lol... My dear friend, Terry K., suggested we meet at Chart House for a scenic happy hour and it was a great choice. Laidback and low-key, old-school Hawaii decor and American and Hawaiian fusion food can be found here. We arrived during their happy hour which runs from 3:30-6:00 p.m. as well as 9:00 through midnight daily. Offered both their happy hour and dinner menu--Terry chose to order for us. Their menus are large! We got our own libations, Salt 'n' Pepper Pork Chops, and the Kimchee Fried Rice with Over Easy Egg to share. The pork chops came with a few chops cut into bite-sized pieces. They were meaty with a firm chew without being overcooked. The fried rice was your typical local style but with char siu. It was fluffy, light, and savory--I enjoyed it! The restaurant is open-air with a partial nautical feel and decor of old-time surfers. It was nice to enjoy our meal overlooking the marina. I can only imagine how beautiful it is during sunset. Our waitresses were curt; checking in on us and bringing our items in a timely manner. Since the restaurant is located in Waikiki I noticed it was more popular amongst the tourists. If you are looking for a place to unwind and dine in Waikiki, then you may want to check out Chart House. The restaurant is located off of Ala Moana Boulevard around the corner from Red Lobster. I recommend parking in the Ilikai Structure (with validation it's $5). Or you can park on the street or in the harbor. My wife and I have been to other Chart Houses so we just wanted a few simple happy hour items during our trip for an easy dinner. Unfortunately we weren't served for 10 minutes after we chose a couple of bar seats. Places wasn't too busy, but the issue was a Caucasian couple, who sat 5 minutes after us were served immediately. They could have been the servers mom and dad for all we knew. With a side stare the waiter kept us hostage of when he wanted to help us as happy hour's end approached. Needless to say the food which came sporadically, as late as 30 minutes, was way too salty and an overall underperformance for the franchise. The world food tour duo made a stop at the Chart House, at the Ala Wai boat harbor. I hadn't been there since the late 70's so I was looking forward to seeing how much it changed in almost 50 years. Hah, it hasn't changed at all. The place was packed; we're glad to see restaurants doing well in the post COVID era. The wine list is okay ... I ordered a Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley; a 2021 Résonance for $94. It's $85 in the wine shop so it was the "value play" wine in their list. It was surprisingly soft (for a 2021), with a decent amount of fruit. We've had Burgundy at twice the price that wasn't appreciably better. We ordered the escargot and a half order of Joey's Arugula Salad. The bread accompanying the escargot wasn't very good but the escargot was fine; not special but acceptable. The salad was great; a nice mango balsamic vinaigrette, candied pecans and shavings of Parmesan. Our entrées were the prime rib and the bison filet. We skipped the starch as our waiter Shane said we could have a double order of asparagus. We love asparagus! The prime rib and the bison filet came at the requested level of doneness (medium rare) and the asparagus was delicious. My bison was flavorful and tender; my partner's prime rib looked scrumptious. We ended our meal by sharing the Chocolate Lava Cake A la Mode and I had a really nice cup of black coffee. The molten cake was very good; I didn't partake in the ice cream. Final thoughts ... the Chart House continues to be a place to have a nice dinner; there's a decent view of the harbor and the setting sun and the prices are reasonable. Recommended! read more

I almost never review restaurants, but this was SO bad. Went for happy hour. I had Makers Mark on the rocks. Fine. My wife ordered Tito's with pineapple and soda. The pineapple was obviously canned and the soda was flat. Ordered mini crab cakes. These were basically bread balls with VERY little crab. They tasted like the oil was several days old. Couldn't eat them. Ordered escargot. The snails were small and luke warm and the butter/garlic over them had an unidentifiable ingredient that was NOT good. Came with an over-toasted roll that we felt like was already stale before toasting. Could not dip into the butter at all (which was fine because the butter tasted funny). Last was crab stuffed mushrooms. These came served over 'mashed potatoes' that were obviously from dry potato flakes. I could not identify any crab in the mushrooms, but they did have small bay shrimps on top that were dry and chewy from the broiler. Overall the worst food I've eaten in quite some time. There was a time when Chart House was 'ok' but dependable. No more. Soooo disappointing. The waitress was nice though.. read more

First time to Chart House. Think dive bar meets old steakhouse vibes in the start of Waikiki. You can park in the hotel parking up the ramp and they will validate ($5 with validation for 4 hours). The menu looks promising and we went for happy hour. We made a reservation on Open Table but I don't think they take reservations for happy hour as they told us to sit in any open table on the left side of the restaurant. It was pretty packed with locals and tourists - luckily there were a few tables and we were able to snag with with a view of the harbor right before sunset. Drinks are moderately priced for happy hour. I got a guava mojito ($8) which tasted like soda water. Barely any flavor, would not recommend to get again. I got a draft beer after as it seemed like their cocktails were just ok. For food, we ordered the poke, sashimi, ny steak, and calamari. Our waitress was really nice and checked up on us every now and then. The poke was good and came with a decent amount of poke. The sashimi was $22 for 9 pieces. Personally, I felt a little ripped off as the quality was okay and the dish was so tiny. I would not order again just because I feel like I could get this at the supermarket or another place for cheaper. The steak was surprisingly good and for $25 its hard to beat. Their other steaks start at $60...so this seemed like a steal! Comes with a side of fries too. It was pretty tender and juicy and overall would get again if I came back. We had ordered the calamari last minute and I think our waitress forgot about it. Luckily we weren't charged for it but I did want to try it. While food was decent during happy hour, and the view is nice, I do think there are better dining options. The decor is a bit outdated but maybe part of the charm of the place. For a "high end" restaurant, I would feel a bit disappointed if I had ordered from the regular menu as the atmosphere was more dive-bar like. The Chart House Waikiki was interesting .......... A bit tough to find, there is an upstairs entrance. A nice view of the marina, if you like the tops of boats, see pic (In the marina pic, the shade was partially pulled down to keep the afternoon sun out.) and the food was okay. We were glad to have found it, though. We were there between the lunch and dinner hours, and the service was good. I took pics of menus as items seem to have changed. We started with the House Salad. As you can see in the pic, it was rough chopped and had a few components to it. But it was all fresh. The balsamic vinaigrette was standard. We shared the Fish N Chips. The fish was very moist on the inside and there was quite a crunch on the outside. The wedge fries were good. We also shared the Garlic Chicken. The chicken nuggets were heavily coated and fried. Arrived early for a 5:00pm dinner reservation so asked the greeters if we could have a drink in the bar area until our group arrived. We self seated and waited for 10 minutes - no one came to take our order. We moved to open bar stools. The bartender was talking to another patron who already had a drink while we politely waited for him to take our order. After waiting for 5 minutes, we left the bar. We were 3 feet away from the bartender so there is no way he could have missed our presence. It was inconceivable to be so ignored in a business where good service is paramount. Went to the chart house Waikīkī to celebrate a birthday. We tried to order happy hour drinks from dining room but was told we'd have to sit at the bar to order happy hour drinks, then go to dining room to have dinner. We were told we could not order happy hour drinks from dining room. What kind of operation is this??! Why does this restaurant make it so inconvenient?? Ordered the ribeye steak. Ordered it medium-rare. It was definitely NOT worth a $75.00 cut of beef! There was so much tendon or what I describe as "suji." It was difficult to eat and I was afraid to swallow pieces of the meat. It was not worth $75.00 for sure!! Service was good until we asked for take out containers. We wanted to pack our own and asked for containers for aujus and horseradish sauces. Waiter help insisted on taking our sauces to pack them himself. While he gathered our sauces, he spilled the aujus sauce all over. I had to ask for new sauces to go. On top of that, parking was validated but we still had to pay $5.00!! We are kamaainas. This is why we avoid going into Waikīkī. Nothing is attractive for kamaainas about going into Waikiki for dinner. Don't think we will be returning to this high-end restaurant anytime soon. Came into Chart House for my birthday dinner as it was highly recommended and I'm so happy I did!! We started off making reservations from their website and was quickly seated at an amazing table overlooking the marina. The view is amazing! They had a live band playing in the background creating a perfect ambiance! Staff brought me a beautiful personalized birthday card which meant so much! We ordered drinks and I highly recommend the Lava Flow - delish! We began the meal with appetizers of stuffed mushrooms which were filled with crab and shrimp!! My gentleman's entree was the Chilean sea bass and pasta - which he raved about! I enjoyed a chopped salad, baked potato and asparagus - everything was absolutely perfect.
