If you are craving that cheesesteak from Philly, I think this is the closest you can get here in South Bay. The bread is what makes their sandwiches great! Nice and soft Ambrosia bread. They will ask you if you like a 7" or a 10" then if want it with onions, peppers. Location wise is not the best coz they are in the inside corner of the strip mall. I ordered the 7" with onions. In case the owner reads this, I was the guy that ordered the Mushroom no peppers extra onions, left to shop then came back. Whoever the woman was running the register, give her a raise! The entire vibe of this of this place has changed for the better, kudos job listening to your customers and they will eventually come back. I come into town every quarter for work and love finding new places. Tonight I had a craving for a Philly so I did what I normally do and opened Yelp and typed in "Philly Cheese Steak" and within 10 miles and sorted by best rating. Made the 20 min drive one way to try this place based on the reviews. I can say the reviews are accurate, the only issue I had was the amount of cheese, or the lack of cheese in a Philly CHEESE Steak. It seemed like they used the amount of cheese for 1/5th of a small on my medium. Honestly couldn't even taste any cheese in most of the sandwich. Other than that the bread was great, nice and soft. The meat was well cooked and flavored and the portions of meat on the Clasic was good. I'll go back if I have another Philly craving when I'm in town but I'll have to have them fix the cheese issue... They honestly earned a ~3.5, really wish Yelp would start allowing 1/2 star reviews. read more

While there are tons of options for different kinds of "cheese steak" sandwiches, I always get the chicken with spinach, mushrooms, and onions. But my daughter had a pizza style one, and she loved it. One caveat - eat the food there or as soon as possible. If it stays wrapped up too long it gets somewhat soggy. read more

Not the cheapest, about $30 for 2 adults (2 cheese steaks + drink + French fries) but definitely worth it. Food is always hot and fresh and the people that work there are very nice. I also want to give props to the manager. I had a delivery order and he made sure to keep the French fries bag open so they didn't get soggy on the drive home. read more

Under new management? When I visited today, there were a group of older gentlemen in matching polo shirts behind the counter silently watching the workers and customers. They're now selling formerly small sodas as mediums and mediums as large and it looks like they're skimping out on the amount of meat and fries that they give you. I think Brian E's review is a good one and not sure I can do more justice. Good solid cheesesteak, produced piping hot and fast. Add a side of curly fries and you have a quick but satisfying meal. Probably a bit smaller portion wise than I'd expect but then you can go for the 15" one if you're really hungry. I like the different variations like bacon and pepperoni added (mmm yummy pork product bolstering). The only real problem here is the seating situation is dire. The sign says max seating 10. There were 6 of us so we were already over 50% of their limit and there were only 4 tables of 2 8 chairs and a baby seat. That still only equals 8.5. Otherwise, it's good to have yet another decent lunch choice in the area. read more

Their onion rings are good, tasty, and crispy but not worth the $2.39. Service was great and fast but like I said, there was a huge wait after I got my sandwich... This is only my 2nd time having a Philly cheesesteak so I can't really say I know where is good, but I can tell you this is better than steve's on tasman. Their sandwiches were flat and plain. There's 7", 10"(average size) and 15". The wait was kinda long and for some Fucking reason, my bf's sandwich was cheaper, but didn't say anything because I was hungry. I ordered the spinach mushroom expecting no meat, but it was there. Spinach was hardly there and Greasy, but edible and cheaper than the French dip place couple feet away. Bread was nicly toasted outside to9. Cashier lady was nice, but I suspect she thought my bf was cute or she messed up. I wouldn't come back here. 1 men/women restroom in the back. Amato's, you have been dethroned as my south bay's go to cheese steak veune. The cheese steak shop is superior, in every way that you don't think would make a difference here's how: 1. The meat isn't sitting on the grill for hours. Its refrigerated, sliced thinner, and is more tender so you're getting nice full bites instead of chunks of dry ass meat. 2. The bread is better. The bread absorbs the juices perfectly. Albiet it leads to a pretty messy experience, but Amato's bread is too thick and itreally screws with the meat to bun ratio. 3. Cohesion. Everything works in unison to make a full flavored steaky marvel. The meat is warm and melts the cheese perfectly. The mayo adds richness, the onions and peppers add acid and texture. All of this makes every bite a perfect bite. I really cannot emphasize how juicy these sandwiches are. Amato's are dry, and far less flavorful by comparison. I've been loyal to Amato's since the day it opened, but this just turned my world upside down. Try it if you think im ridiculous. read more

Today was my second time at the place and if last time experience was so-so, but today it was just awful. I've ordered two 10" cheesesteaks with extra. Waited for half an hour taking into consideration that there are only one person was before me. Anyway after half an hour I've asked where my order I got: it's already gone. I was surprised and they finally figured out that that was their mistake. After that they've tried to give someone else's order, I declined it. So after 10 more minutes I got what I've ordered. Average at best. Came here for lunch with some coworkers around 12:45PM on Wednesday. There was still a small line and our food seemed to take some time to come out... from the reviews, I was expecting a cheesesteak as amazing as the one I got in Philly, but I was disappointed. I guess I should have known better. I got the 7" philly cheesesteak with cheese whiz & steak, twister (aka curly) fries and a soda. The prices are reasonable for lunch in the Bay Area, but could you at least serve my food warm? It was lukewarm... I noticed some reviews stating that the food doesn't make you feel as oily and disgusting as most cheesesteak places do, maybe I came on an off day?? I normally don't eat cheese and given today's experience, I probably won't come back and crave cheese anytime soon.... It wasn't awful, but it definitely wasn't a good experience. read more

This place was GOOD. I like my cheesesteaks full of flavor, with so so quality meat that is super tender and lots of cheese. Cheesesteaks are not supposed to be steak sandwiches, they are not steak and cheese... they are cheesesteaks. It's supposed to be mediocre quality meat that is completely smothered in cheese until it tastes good, with a tender and fluffy roll and onions and peppers. The Cheese Steak shop DEFINITELY delivered on this. For less than $10, you end up with a 10" cheese steak that was more than I could finish alone, let alone the fries and a drink. The beef is tender and flavorful, and it's definitely got enough cheese. They use authentic italian style rolls from Amoroso's baking company, which are super tender and fluffy, but not so wimpy that your big greasy sandwich falls apart. This is a balance that is tough to meet in a roll. It had cheese flowing from every orifice, a lactard's nightmare! We got both the spicy and sweet peppers and they added a great kick, and good flavor without overpowering the cheesiness. There isn't a whole lot of seating, so be prepared to eat on the curb and take it to go. So, how does it compare to the non chains? Calvin's? Amato's? Jersey Joe's? I think it competes pretty well. Calvin's was completely fail when I went, it didn't have enough meat to call it a steak at all. I didn't want cheese bread, I wanted a cheesesteak and felt like the little old ladies from the jack in the box commercial... WHERE'S THE BEEF? Amato's has a dang good sandwich and I'd say their sandwiches were a little better... but not much. The Cheese Steak Shop's bread was better and their meat just wasn't quite as good... but still a really solid sandwich. We went on a week night thinking it wouldn't be too busy! BOY were we wrong. We should've known better when all the tables were filled yet no one had any food... We had to wait 30 mins for our sandwiches which were "to go" as there was no place to sit since everyone was waiting... Not sure why it took so long - and while I thought the sandwiches were very tasty - when you get them to go - it was also very soggy. :( Loved the peppers - got a lot of meat in the sandwiches - not sure if that's normal or if they gave us extra for waiting for so long - but we are willing to try this place again - maybe when they are not so crowded. It wasn't even like there was a line out the door - they just were SUPER SLOW! I think the first batch of sandwiches that went out were cold cause we saw a batch sitting off to the side while a guy SLOWLY dressed, cut and wrapped them. Things picked up when I "think" the "owner" came forward to help after being on his laptop during the whole pile up. It's a shame that the experience ruined the food - and while I want to comment on the good food - we were just SO HUNGRY and frustrated and then to have to go home and eat soggy sandwiches... sigh ... so sad... I got the classic - beef, onions, and sweet peppers - he got pizza - same but with tomato sauce and provolone - and fries. 7" for both, which was the perfect size for me. Can't go into much details because I scarfed it down (was so good). All I remember is the cheeeeese. So gooey and melty. And the bread wasn't too heavy, was a good ratio to the meat and cheeses. Had a bite of the pizza cheesesteak - it tasted like the inside of a chef boyardee ravioli. Small bits of ground meat in a saucy tomato sauce. Twister fries were forgettable (frozen then deep-fried). Good number of tables inside and some outside. Friendly staff. Cheap prices. Will definitely come back when I'm craving something greasy. read more

I think Cheese Steak Shop is one of my preferred franchises. The bread is soft, and the stuffing of meat, cheese, onions, peppers and more is always flavorful. It's a little on the greasy side, but it's always a better alternative to the most easily accessible fast food locations. I think this location "meats" that same standard as the other locations. It's hard for me to pick eating hear too often when Adamson's, Dim Sum King and more are in the same plaza. But I do appreciate them for staying in business and love the availability of a good cheesesteak. read more

The classic sandwich is. simple but delicious with a good selection of side options ( fries, curly fries , onion rings etc.) and in enough quantity to leave you feeling well satisfied.
