Apparently you can't order a Creamtella with the whipped cream on the side. Seriously, they won't be even give you a container of whipped cream separately even if you pay extra for it. I've been an avid fan of the Creamtella and Chocotella. Yes, it's amazingly delicious but I have a long drive home, and when I go to eat it, the cake always soaks up the cream and makes everything a soggy mess. I explain this to the employee when I'm ordering but I'm told I can't have cream on the side for a Creamtella because "that's not how it's served". And when I say I'll pay extra for a side container of it, I'm refused even though it's CLEARLY printed on their menu under "side orders" What castella place doesn't have whipped cream?! I was really excited about this place because it was all over Facebook and Youtube so I decided to drive from SD to LA just to try what the hype was about. I ordered two of the original and two of the cheesetella. I had to wait about 30 minutes for it to be baked which was totally fine because it is inside a mall and near the parking lot entrance, there was a bakery so I spent most of my time there. The original and cheesetella is not sweet at all. I knew that this wouldn't taste exactly like the nagasaki castella because obviously this is more lighter and fluffier but this cheesetella and original was not good at all. We came from Long Beach specifically to try this place. It is in a very busy shopping center. We had to circle quite a bit in the parking structure to find a spot. It was OK but I don't think it was worth the drive. Decent slices for the price. Plenty to share. It wasn't that it was bad or anything actually was pretty tasty. Im surprised this place has such low ratings. I've been dying to try a place with the Japanese style cake I've seen all over Instagram. I finally found them at this place and the cakes are delicious! I have tried the cheesetella, the plain, and the cheesecake (my personal favorite). I love how bouncy they are. The prices are great too, they have validation, but what I enjoy the most is how pleasant they are. The customer service is great. Now if you're someone with really high expectations and want something that's overly sweet then this place is not the place for you. My friends and I were confused about the cheesetella - it looks like yellow nacho cheese stuffed inside castella. Taste wise, it tastes exactly like the cheap American cheese slices that are sold in stores. As all the reviews said, this is reminiscent of a sponge cake and isn't dense at all. It's very soft and airy and has just a HINT of sweetness. I think the Cheesetella has American cheese blended in it? I thought it seemed weird, but it kind of just works and isn't overpowering. My boyfriend LOVED this and ate multiple slices in one sitting. I can see this being really good with coffee or tea. This is a great treat to bring to a party, gathering, etc. Looking forward to trying other flavors! I love that it's not sweet, it tastes super classy because of that and i can REALLY taste the egg in the dough, it tastes very fresh. I was super excited to try this castella bc I had it in korea at Hongdae and it was pretty bomb. it tastes pretty much exactly the same as the Korean one. The whole point of this place is to be significantly less sweeter than other castella places and I think a lot of the adults love this. my parents really enjoyed the original. I got the cheese and Choco and both were really good. Chocolate is pretty sweet and cheese has that salty sweet taste that I personally really enjoy. The cake itself is a standard castella cake, albeit more eggy, fluffy and less sweet. If you prefer your cakes with a less eggy taste, I would skip this place. My brother took a bite and refused to eat more because the egg flavor was just too prominent. Also, I would've appreciated more cream to offset the dryness because it is very dry. It's not dense but not very moist either. The packaging is very inconvenient. It's a really big box with a dome top that holds a flat, rectangular cake. I wanted to store the rest of the cake in the fridge but had to transfer to another container because it was too big and bulky. Creamtella was ok, the shape of cake was a little ugly than how I expected,, I wish it was more well shaped especially the edge of cake. The Cheesetella, oh no,,, same deal with the shape, but the taste of cake was a big disappointment!! There's ugly orange colored cheep taste "cheese" is layered into the cake... I lost my words when I saw it. The cake has nice soft spongy texture like chiffon cake. But it destroys the quality of it. Also, I need to add something like strawberries or whip-cream when I eat... cuz the taste is little bland. I feel like I over paid on them. They should offer smaller sizes for half prices.
