The quantity of food you receive is generous; however, the quality on the other hand is persuasive enough such that I'm willing to shell out a few dollars more to take my money just about anywhere else. 9 dollars for a one item seems good, but it's not. So, I did pre-order pickup today (pandemic in full effect here). I'm sorry but what the hell people. Let me tell you. 3.5 stars. Should be 4 but damn y'all. I ordered the vegetable spring rolls, chicken in black bean sauce, and garlic chicken spring rolls were cool but tasted heavily like ginger -- if you like ginger, then it's cool. Black bean chicken had lots of vegetables and no onions. Odd: I've ordered it a few years back from them and this looked and tasted differently. Not bad but more bland than I remembered. Garlic chicken was good. I had them take the spice level down a bit. But I now I really need to tell you. I pre-ordered. I show up and there's a line of folks waiting outside (not 6 feet apart). They seemed friendly and folks were chopping it up but I wasn't going to be one of them. It's a pandemic, I'm not not trying to utilize any unnecessary social skills, yuh hear. So, I call Chef Ming's from the parking lot, as my order confirmation said, skip the line etc. No answer. I call back a 2 minutes later. These folks just didn't answer the phone. Just plain annoying. You can have your table set up at the door. You can have hand sanitizer on the table. But if you don't answer the phone and instead have people standing like that and just waiting, what the hell. So I wait until everyone gets their food and leaves except for one person. I stand at the end of the ramp and then some. Seeing me there, I figure she'd exit the other side. Nope, she walked right by me. Now you might say how is that the restaurant's fault? I'll tell you: Lack of organization. Chef Ming's should have markers of where to stand, how to call in to see if your food is read or be calling out names. They should be organized. This was not. Final Word: Disappointed. I hate to give it 5 stars because I don't want people to go there! I'm a non dairy person that doesn't eat beef and pork and they have an excellent veggie chicken that they source from a secret place that they will never reveal. The owner is a bit quirky sometimes she shuts her phone off so she can't take orders of sheet feels like they're overwhelmed. So if you get a busy signal that's why!! It's hard to find good Chinese outside of Monterey Park so I really like this option especially for for vegetarians. I liked it so much that I ordered from them for my birthday. but you can customize your order to and you don't have to pay any more than the regular menu price. Excellent food for a vegetarian. I got the Broccoli with Hot Garlic Sauce as an entree, which is very flavorful. I was also delighted to see that they have Cold Noodles with Sesame Sauce- a staple on the east coast but extremely rare to find in Los Angeles. It's a HUGE portion, and tastes exactly like I'd hoped it would. They also give you free white rice here with your meal, which isn't always a given in places around here. Boy, did this place go downhill. Same menu, same name, but whole new crew and new recipes for the dishes. I have been ordering the same few items for years and since this new crew came in, the dishes are completely different. No flavor now, just oddly sliced random veggies that make no sense in the dish. Haven't had Chinese food in a long time since it's hard to find a good one, I spotted this place a couple months ago driving by. I finally got to try it tonight and definitely found my spot. At first I noticed 2 different pictures of Magic Johnson at Chef Mings so that was a plus. I ordered Chicken Fried Rice and Beef Broccoli. I live about 10 minute drive away and food was still Hot when I ate. There was a lot of meat in both entrees too. I enjoyed it very much, rice was cooked great, meats were good and not chewy or hard, broccoli had a nice little snap to them and not soggy. I ended up ordering a few items from here and honestly the only real stars were the pork friend rice and the chicken low mein those two were so full of flavor and externally good. I called in the order (bc if you're picking up, don't use Postmates/Grubhub - They charge the restaurant like, 30%!) Moving to the US, I was on the search for traditional Chinese food. Though Chef Ming's caters to the American market, they're as close to the real deal as I can find in West LA. Generous portions with a Canto speaking owner, I was definitely happy to feel a bit of nostalgia when I picked up my order. Pleasantly surprised with my order. When I read the reviews already on here I instantly regretted ordering delivery from this restaurant. BUT I am so happy I read the reviews after I ordered. I ordered the Tofu with mixed veggies, combination lo mein, general's chicken, and the Rangoon's. The Lo Mein was amazing and exactly what I had hoped for. The flavors were all there and it was cooked great! The tofu is fried tofu and it tasted just like fried tofu. It was good, but I'm just not that well experienced with it. The chicken, unfortunately the chicken was a little dry which was surprising because the chicken in the lo Mein was excellent! I wasn't a fan of their General Tso's sauce. It's more on the sweet side and missing spice. The Rangoon's were great as well. I also ordered the Thai iced tea with boba and was super happy with it. The lunch specials here are a great bang for the buck. During weekdays from 11 am to 3:30 pm, you can get a 1, 2 or 3 item combo for super cheap. For the 1-item, you can choose from their menu. For the 2 or 3-items, you choose from what they have to offer at the counter (which is pretty much the standard Chinese take-out dishes e.g. orange chicken, beef w/broccoli, kung pao chicken, etc.). It comes with chow mein and fried rice. Not crazy about the fried rice, but the chow mein is awesome! I got a 3-item combo for $9. Tasty food, great value, and generous portions. No complaints! A few months ago, we found Chef Ming's Kitchen through QMenu and placed an order. The food was so wonderful, order and delivery were a breeze. Since then, we have ordered a few times with wonderful results. Last week we had family visiting from out of state, so we ordered from Chef Ming's Kitchen again. They, unfortunately, did not include an entree that my brother had ordered. I called and they were not able to get the entree to us, and I was quite annoyed. I asked them to refund for the amount of the entree. Through conversations with the restaurant and QMenu, they assured me they would refund the entree. Chef Ming's went above and beyond and refunded the entire order amount. This order was for six people and close to $200 dollars. I really wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. I was craving char sui bao so I went on DoorDash to order ahead. The food arrive on time: yes, hot: yes, delicious: debatable. Now I am not an expert by any means, but the bao tasted nothing like what I have had from numerous other restaurants around LA. The filling was more like a sweet and sour than a bbq pork. The pork was very small and mostly I tasted the bun. I also ordered the mixed appetizer for 2, the crab rangoons tasted like only cheese, not much crab at all. The breading on the fried shrimp was a little thick and honestly looked like they came from the freezer section but it was good. The scallion pancakes were a little plain but not bad texture. The general tso's chicken really was ok, can't say I've ever had so much celery in a chicken dish. Not spicy, barely even mild but you cannot always trust a spicy dish if you've not eaten at the restaurant before. Last night, I had a pretty intense craving for the Moo Shu Chicken dish and Chef Ming came to the rescue. Fair prices. Large portions. Kind delivery man. The Mu Shu Chicken Dinner Special ($15.99) came with 4 pancakes and even arrived with a few surprise sides, including a wonton, egg roll, fried shrimp and "those little crispy things" that most people call wontons.
