I have been here twice so far and have had pleasant experiences! I've had the char siu bao, wonton soup, beef chow fun and the orange chicken. All were delicious and tasted like every other Chinese takeout restaurant I've been too. The orange chicken was not as crispy as I'm used to, but it was very moist. Class act, guys. Not sure what happened but they were having a rough night. Sat out in the parking lot for about an hour and a half waiting for my takeaway order. There were some irate, hot, just nasty twerked off jerks in my same situation just tearing into the poor host distributing the food (or not, as it were) so I just couldn't get mad at the poor guy. It was nice that, when I finally got my food, there was a free treat included and even nicer when I got an email the next day that my payment had been refunded, without me even giving a frown. I ordered for takeout, assuming if I'm paying full a la cart prices, the order is made to order. I spent $35 for an order of General Tso Chicken, pineapple fried rice, and egg rolls. The fried rice and the egg rolls were fine, but the Chicken was obviously old. The sauce was congealed and lumpy. The chicken was hard and dry. It was probably cooked hours ago , and sitting under a heat lamp. If I wanted pre-made food, I'll just go to Panda Express because I know at least the food there turns around quickly. I ordered online, then looked up the delivery service to check how much of the delivery charge, if any, goes to the driver as a tip, so that I know how much to tip. I found some people complaining that the delivery service "beyondmenu.com" was a scam. So I called the restaurant to double check that everything was ok. The man or woman who answered the phone ( I couldn't quite tell from the voice) was incredibly rude and abrasive. He/she spoke broken English, and communication was difficult. I think at least one person in the restaurant should speak fluent English if you want to run a smooth operation, especially when there are pick up and delivery orders.. I explained several times that I was just making sure that the order went through and that the delivery service was legit. He/she repeatedly kept interrupting me and giving me an attitude like I was bothering him/her. After about a minute she was literally yelling at me. I said "look, there may be a problem with your website and the ordering service, so I'm just checking that I didn't lose my money on the order that I just placed, so please calm down", and he/she said "YOU CALM DOWN!!". - wow, how's that for customer service? This is after he/she checked her system and didn't see my order come in, so I was concerned that maybe I had been scammed by a fake delivery service. But the idiot on the phone just kept saying "I DON'T SEE YOUR ORDER!". - yeah well no shit, that's the reason I was calling - to make sure it went through.. Anyways, he/she claimed to be the manager. We decided to stay the weekend in Santa Monica and looking for a take out near the Hotel no more than 2 Miles away. Chef Ming had an interesting Menu, We ordered Orange Chicken Crispy Honey Shrimp with Walnuts and of course Beef n Broccoli. All 3 were spot on Delicious. Chef Ming has it down perfectly. Thank You. The Mongolian beef had very little sauce and no fresh GREEN onions; only a few sad white onions. The orange (flavored) chicken was dry and had no orange taste at all. The sauce was brown and burned. The broccoli was limp and lifeless. All stems and no crowns. The combination lo mein was flavorless, had no sauce and very little meat. The few tiny shrimp tasted spoiled. Chef Ming's Kitchen was such a great choice! I am so glad we went! It really is the perfect take out Chinese food! Its in expensive and there are so many options, especially for Vegetarians! They make really great fake meat for vegetarians! My boyfriend, who eats really meat, said the vegetarian Orange Chicken we ordered really tasted like regular orange chicken. We got vegetarian Orange Chicken, Kung Pao Tofu and Vegetable Lo Mein and it was so so so yummy! Perfect to take home for a movie date! Add we saw on the menu that they deliver locally for free if you buy more than $15 in food. Well I know what we are going to do for our next movie night! Reasonable prices, a large menu, tastes that won't shock the American palate. Chef Ming is running a totally classic Chinese operation and doing a nice job of it. We had a Chinese chicken salad, a braised tofu dish, dry sautéed string beans, the General's chicken, shrimp with garlic and black beans, veggie moo shu. It was all pretty good. The portions were yuge and my credit card was not maxed out. I ordered online, using Yelp's Eat24 system. Everything worked out perfectly. When I walked in the door exactly at the pickup time that I'd specified, the chefs were putting their final touches on my order. My previous takeout Chinese meal from this in this area came from Dragon Palace, a half mile away. That establishment is now CLOSED -- sad! I hope that Chef Ming's has a happier fate. read more

I usually go to the Chef Mings in Beverly Hills, but this one night I was in Santa Monica.... so why not order from this one? BIG MISTAKE... I ordered a take out of their Mixed Vegables with Fried Tofu. Got home and when I tried it, the vegetables tasted greasy... like they were cooked on a grill that needed to be cleaned - likewise with the fried tofu. Within an hour I had the worst case of the runs and was glued to my toilet for the next few hours. Will never go here again. BTW afterwards I found this place has a current City Health Score of B with 9 violations. (The Beverly Hills Chef Mings has an A and their food is far, far better!) The food was gross. Thought we had ordered from the Olympic location and had to drive to the other one on Santa Monica. Be careful. Got two chicken dishes and both of them were basically inedible. Chicken chunks were hard and stringy like they had been way over cooked or just used cheap poultry. Might be the worst Asian food we've ever had. Tried Chef Ming's Kitchen for the first time and last in one taste of bbq ribs which appeared meaty until biting into them and seeing (fat deposit on the plate). String beans with chicken in some sort of sauce, all white meat chicken with veggies in sort of white sauce, chicken lo mein, and steamed rice.
