The absolute worst dining experience I have had since moving to Edmond in 2016. Don't waste your time but if you go to Chelino's in Edmond don't expect authentic Mexican cuisine. I went with a guest who had suggested the restaurant based on online reviews and the fact that the parking lot was frequently full. We have tried 5 or 6 so-called "Mexican" restaurants and Chelino's is far and away the worst. Detailed rundown: The décor is mainly bright multi-colored walls with various posters and painted items as 'decorations'. Seating is crowded and uncomfortable. The menu mentions "complimentary items" but does not provide detail. The chips were typical and better eaten without the salsa or queso. The salsa was absolutely hideous--there is no other way to describe it. It did not resemble any authentic salsa I have ever seen or tasted. The queso was just as bad. It had no cheese taste whatsoever. I don't really know what it was but it was flavored with cumin. For entrées we had the El Gordo and Burr Loco. The El Gordo is a fish fillet covered with shrimp. Also on the plate was refried beans, rice, fried onions and green peppers, fried potato discs and avocado slices. The avocado was the best thing on the plate. The rice was 'ok' but essentially flavorless. The beans were obviously out of a can and were barely warm. The fish fillet was overcooked to the point of nearly being jerky. The shrimp seemed to have been boiled and neither the fish nor the shrimp had much flavor. The onions were not really fried. They had been warmed up in oil or grease and were actually soggy with oil. The potato discs were about an 1/8th inch thick (not as thick as shown in the pictures) and were also soaked in oil. It was a terrible meal. The Burr Loco was equally bad. I should have known before I ordered it. Chili is an American fare not Mexican. Chile is Mexican. The Burr Loco came full of chicken on one end and chili on the other. Overall the burrito was not as greasy as the El Gordo plate but it was also without flavor. There was a smattering of lettuce and tomatoes buried in the center and they were soggy. If you want a good meal don't expect to find it at Chelino's. Horrid food. read more

Ten years ago, Chelino's was the best Tex-Mex in OKC. But they've expanded too fast and have not maintained quality at any level. Dishes seem to be rushed from the kitchen with little quality control and everything is a variation of the same cheese, tortillas, and meat. It is possible to get your food too fast. Beef is often overcooked and chicken is usually stringy and wet. Chips and salsa are still good, and that Chelino's cheese sauce is the same as always. But the magic has departed. I used to love Chelino's, but the service is getting awful. Yes you get your food fast, but don't expect them to come back after that. Good luck getting more cheese and shells without actually going and finding someone to go get them. The seating is very tight, and it is always loud. If they worked on their customer service, they would rate much higher in my book. Not to mention if you have a bad experience with the food and don't eat it, they still charge you. read more

Consistently good. Been going to Chelinos for many years. I've been to this particular location probably 40 times. The fajitas are always plentiful and delicious. They're usually a little light in the green peppers and onions, but the beef and chicken are delicious. The requisite chips, cheese, and salsa are always good and brought out quickly. Prices are good as are the portions. Service is usually very quick and friendly. I don't recall a time that I've been dissatisfied with the service. The only reason I'm giving 4 out of 5 stars is that the facilities are a bit run down and really showing their age. The entire place could definitely use a renovation. That being said, I still love Chelinos and will be back many times. read more

Chelino's used to be the best Mexican in the OKC metro. They exploded with popularity and opened 4 or 5 locations and went WAY down hill. I'll always remember it as it was... But I don't to there anymore. read more

Not just another mexican restaurant. Chelino's does it all the right way! The atmosphere of this location is awful, but the food is great and they serve up an amazing Tecate! Do your self a favor, Eat here. you will not regret it. I worked in Indio, California for the last 15 years before i move here to okalhoma. I ran a Auto Dealership, my customers brought me lunch all the time, mostly home made to sell to local people in the community. Indio is home of the anual tmale festival! Chelinons is the Most Athenic Mexican In Oklahoma. #9 meal the 3 shredded beef tacos is totaly awesome, Margaritas are strong, 2 meals, 3 LARGE Magies(drinks) and extras are about $45.00. Great... do not miss out on eating here!!!! the rest of the food on the menu is rather taste, the enchildas and tamales are really great, the Fajitas are silzzing and extremely taste. when i found out they were a chain i was blown away. every evening they even have a gentleman playing traditional hispanic mariachi music. really check it out!!! by "yourbadneighbor" look me up on google. read more

In my opinion the best Mexican food in Edmond. A first timer might say when first entering the place, but it doesn't look like the best place?! trust me looks are deceiving. As a long time customer what we see when we walk in are the familiar faces of the long time staff who always greet us with many Hellos" and "good to see you my friends". Over the years this has become our go to comfort food place to eat in Edmond. The food is always tasty & good, the service as friendly as any I have ever been too, the drinks big cold & icy and the flavors just delicious. When we walk in we do not even have to order anymore, the usual staff quickly recognizes us and starts bring our our usual....( I have to be extra quick if we want a change as they serve food faster than any restaurant int he metro area.) Complimentary chips, queso & salsa as well as your drinks are brought immediately, but please do also order the special sauce...mmm my favorite! So good, I love it but a lil' spicy for my wife. A tasty poblano mixture Our go to meal is a double order of fajitas usually shrimp & chicken. ( but their beef is the tastiest in Edmond as well) The peppers and onions are piled high,and most can not finish the meal. (My wife eats flour tortillas, I eat corn and I never have to ask...they just know and bring our separate tortillas. I love that! Also let me please recommend the borracho beans over the standard refired beans. They are simply delicious but you have to ask....you will be glad you did. There is never a time Chelinos is not packed so be prepared for that... Now take my next thought as you will...I have many friends that can be food snobs...and think that the interior/exterior of Chelinos is dated and would rather go to Ted's or one of the chains or other Tex/Mex in the area....Let me assure that "THE best tasting food is right there at Chelinos"! hands down. And you can not beat the service. Not all servers speak fluent English well( i think that is a good sign") but they are fast, friendly and will take good care of you. I have yet to find a good Mexican restaurant since moving to Edmond. I had good expectations for chellinos because it just looked like my type of place,but it was not. pulled in and parking lot was packed. inside we were seated at the last available table. the inside is small and tables are packed like sardines. menu was full of over complicated dishes and no simple combinations. complimentary chips and queso was ok but they have the same lousy salsa I keep finding in central Okla. menu prices were a little on the high side. I had chicken fajitas. the chicken was not overly flavorful. I had about 2 whole cooked onions and about 4 strips of bell pepper that were just oily with no caramelization. defiantly will not be back. I guess my search for Mexican in edmond continues. read more

I am not impressed. This place is always packed so I thought it may be good. I got fajitas and they were ok. The meat was over cooked, mostly onions and was about half the amount of food that you usually get at other places. The chips were not fresh. The salsa was good. The pico was good. The service was great. Overall, I think the charges were high for the low quality. read more

Living in Edmond for four years and Oklahoma all my life, I love Chelino's. Their food is consistently good, if it's not, then I complain and they take care of it! The location in Edmond is great, the service is good. I now live in Maryland and every time I return home I go there at least 3 or 4 times to fill up on my Tex Mex. There are other places for Tex Mex, some better, more expensive. I can rely on this location to be good every time. Miss it alot! read more

Chelino's is a relatively recent discovery for my wife and I. We have driven by them for years but never actually went into one until last month. Since then, I think we've gone... 4 times? The food comes pretty quickly, and the plates are almost always scalding hot (watch out.) I usually get the Tacos Al Carbon, which is actually two large tortillas filled with carne asada... they're more like burrito-sized, but no matter. They are served with refried beans, rice, and scoops of guacamole and pico de gallo. You can sort of make-your-own-burrito if you open the tortillas up and add the rest of the stuff on the plate. I'm not sure if thats the idea, but whatever, that's how I roll. The portion for that specific meal is large, to the point where if I finish it, I'm uncomfortably full. The free salsa I like well enough, the queso not so much. The salsa is tomatoey and not much else. It does have a nice consistency (nice being subjective), but it's not very spicy and it's kind of...generic. That being said, I always end up eating like 4 cups/dishes/whatever of it so apparently I like it. The queso is not for me. I'm not much of a queso fan in the first place (there's a story for that, but it would take too long) but theirs is just... nah. The restaurant itself is set up a little weird, with the tables pretty much on top of each other. It's definitely not a private or intimate place to eat (I think someone in another review said that the location used to be a Braums, which explains the strange setup of the building). Their theory of table serving, from my experience, is "just do the minimum". There is usually a ton of servers/busboys hanging around, but they don't really check on you, the chips/salsa can take a while to be refilled, etc. They pretty much take your order, bring you your drinks, bring the food, bring the check. Which, personally, doesn't bother me but it might bother someone else. Also, just so you're not surprised if you've never been, some of your waitstaff or cashiers may be young. Like, prepubescent young. One of our servers was maybe 14 on a visit, and another time the cashier (who was being overseen by an adult employee, probably her mom) was a little girl who might have been 8 or 9. However, she got the change right, she was polite, it was all good. All in all- good Mexican food, interesting dining experience. For me the food outweighs the other stuff. read more

My husband and I visited this restaurant out of default from our original choice being closed. The restaurant staff is friendly. The restaurant service was quick. We ordered fajita's to share and requested the onions/peppers be well done. I do not believe the waitress understand my English request for she brought us like a double order of onions and they were in no way well done. The meat had no seasoning. I believe the chicken appeared to be chicken that came from a bag of frozen fajita meat just warmed up. The sides were typical and ok. The sopapilla was ok. All in all it was a little disappointing and most likely we will not return. read more

My absolute favorite Mexican restaurant in the Oklahoma city area. Don't let the outside scare you, it's good eats! Kid friendly, noisy and fun with delicious food in generous portions and quick service. My teenage daughter and I can split the fajitas and have leftovers to spare.
