Most of the Chevys on the West Coast have closed, so it was nice finding this one. The chips and salsa were warm and fresh. I got the Flamed Mixed grill fajitas, and my wife got the combo with a chicken enchilada and a beef chimichanga. Both were excellent. My shrimp were cooked perfectly, and the steak, chicken, and carnitas were excellent. The wife's food was great also. We had plenty for leftovers the next day. Our server was quick and friendly. For a chain "Mexican" place, I actually really like Chevy's. This is a place I can go for a quick and filling cheap meal. Service is always good here, which I appreciate. I like their tostada salad with veggies instead of meat. Their dressing is really good, the salad has a ton of goodies in it and is gigantic. I always take it home for at least another meal. As chain Tex-Mex goes, I guess this place is alright. They do give you huge portions for the amount you pay, and the food is totally edible. They are generally great at keeping your chips and salsa filled, but in short, it's just a very meh experience. I almost always order the Taco Salad here, sans meat of course. The lettuce isn't rotten or anything, the tomatoes taste ok. The salsa is entirely too weak for me, but I am kind of glutton for punishment when it comes to hot foods so I may not be the best measurement on good salsas, but the salad is just very....ordinary. There is absolutely nothing special about the thing. It is the same thing you could pick up at Steak n Shake, or even make at home. Why spend $9 on the thing at a restaurant? The ambiance here is just...it's a chain you know? They hang kitchy little things that seem "Mexican" on the walls and have sombrero's for people who are having their birthday, but all in all, it's just kind of more annoying than anything. The waiters are all high school and college kids obviously trying to make a few bucks to pay off their bar tabs or their 1992 Honda Civics. They do a good job but sometimes you remember the movie Waiting and kind of see how this place is similar. It is kid friendly too, and people know it . I went to this restaurant for the first time yesterday and have had to take some time to recover mentally from my dining experience. We arrived and it took quite a while to be seated but afterwards our server was very quick and polite so nothing wrong in that aspect. We order our food which was the following; steak fajita nachos, chicken fajitas, and Chile relleno with a chimichanga. When our nachos came out it was a telltale sign of what was to come. The nachos were arranged with must of been bagged shredded cheddar cheese microwaved on top, dried out old bits of steak, and no fajita veggies at all. This was something I could of made at home faster and cheaper. Seeing them genuinely left me speechless. When we got our food it was much less horrifying. My chicken fajitas were juicy, but lacked any flavor aside from the meat itself. My fajita veggies were also almost entirely onions. The Chile rellenos and chimichanga also just lacked flavor, and the Chile relleno did not have very much cheese. It is safe to say I will never be coming back due to this experience. The food is just not worth the price, can easily be made at home, and there are simply better Mexican restaurants around. read more

Would love to give a better review....as for food and drinks it was fantastic.....however I have a bad review due to service issues... our server was constantly apologizing for forgetting things to bring to the table as well as she had a great disappearing act.....and unfortunately it did not stop there .....we had to deal with an little ungrateful girl who was put out by the fact that I ask her "not to sweep" the floor next to the area where we are eating and drinking....(understand that the area was not a hot mess and did not need to be cleaned for sanitary reasons or such).....At the moment I ask her to "not sweep" she huffed and puffed ...throwing the broom and dust pan against the wall, then went over and plopped her butt in a bar stool. At that point she began complaining very loudly!!! We had already ordered dinner and now at this point we thought it may be best to just get our meal to-go......a manager whom had already filled in for our "disappearing" waitress happened to walk by and that gave an opportunity to share with him instead of posting a negative post here on Yelp......I wish I could tell you that the situation improved but it did not! The manger there at the time listened to what we had experienced.....apologized for the girl then disappeared himself. I am usually a fair poster her on Yelp ..... good bad or indifferent I post....this experience (good food though) continued with the girl hanging in our area huffing and pufffing about someone trying to get her fired. I don't think the girl understands the customer pays "the bills" the customer keeps "the doors open"......and the customer does not want to see or hear her disgruntled self. This is my third time at this Chevys and it has progressively gotten worse each time. Being polite doesn't make you a good server. If I have to ask you about 3 things that you've forgotten 3 different times then your service is pretty shit. As far as the food goes... the chicken in the chicken fajita was extremely dry. The steak in the steak quesadilla was beyond tasteless and chewy. Definitely not worth spending $45 for 3 meals (one being a kids meal). We love Chevys at another location. Last night we met our kids for dinner at this location. It was around 6 and very slow. We waited about 20 mins for our server to wander over with chips. He left without taking our drink orders. My grand daughter was choking on chips and needed water. My son got the waiters attention and he finally bought water out. 15 mins later he came back and asked if we were ready to order. Our food came out 20 mins later except for one order. He promised it would right out- wrong, after asking multiple times my sons cold food was brought out. Everyone else's food was mediocre at best. We will Not be back at this location. I just had a retirement celebration at Chevy's in Olivette, MO. First is all Para and Debbie, our waitresses, were outstanding, patient and took great care of us the entite time, about 4 hours! Chevy's (and the managers) were quite accommodating for our party of about 30 guests. I would definitely hold another celebration there, although this is the 4th large one I've had there. Thank you! Please bring back your Chevy's chips made in-house. That's what set you apart from other Mexican restaurants. Your housemade chips are the best. It was a holiday weekend, but the place was easily half empty-- it was just desperately under staffed. That's a fixable situation and I hope they get it under control. The building is Pasta-House-fancy and the food is Mom-and-Pop fresh made flavor. Great vegetarian options. Nearly every single entree was $11. Hot chips, the best, most refreshing cilantro based salsa in the business. We closed the place down and they were friendly the whole time. You have authentic Mexican food, and then you have what I like to call Americanized Mexican food which Chevy's falls into. This is not a bad thing, it's just how I like to categorize things. To start things off, I have to mention that Chevy's has got the best salsa, not too many restaurants offer fire roasted salsa, so this is an added plus right from the get go. The chips are always fresh and compliment the salsa with the perfect edge. Add to the fact that our server kept our chips and salsa replenished throughout our entire meal, made it even more enjoyable that it already is. The menu is quite extensive and they offer a wide range of things to choose from. Prices are moderate to high, however things seem to balance out rather perfectly in the end. I have ordered several items off of the menu, and haven't been discouraged or disappointed yet. the food presentation is great, and the prep time seems to be short even when there is a full house. They make their own tortillas, and they are always served hot and fresh. They have a large selections of Margarita's and other assorted foo foo drinks, that carry both a higher price, but a nice little kick, so I'm guessing satisfaction is going to get achieved in that department, which is also a nice addition to your experience, drink enough of them and you won't remember your experience, so be careful. The decor of the place is alive and welcoming, and the service is delightful. I had a decent sized group with me, I arrived early to get a table, and by the time my party arrived, they had a place ready for us, despite the fact they were having a rather busy night. our server greeted us very promptly, and we received our drink orders quickly. I've always loved Chevy's Fresh Mex . . . usually go to the location on Olive Street Road near I-170, but have been to the South County location several times. The location in South County is at 12466 Tesson Ferry Road - diagonally across from St. Anthony's Medical Center. Was tipped off to the $10 all you can eat ribs on Wednesday and Thursday nights. So off to South County we went. For $10 they were actually very good - and it satisifed my rib craving. You get a 1/2 slab of ribs with your initial order, fries, and baked beans on the plant. No refills of the sides (fries or beans), but you will get 3 ribs with each order after your order your first round. They are VERY meaty and had a good taste to them. I would recommend them if you are craving ribs and don't want to wait in line at Pappy's! read more
