The food at Chinese Garden is absolutely delicious. Please know that this is not traditional Chinese cuisine but a Chinese-American cuisine popular in the 1960's and 70's. The nostalgia of picking up Chinese take-out in the traditional carrying boxes is fantastic. Awesome place for the past 50 years! Service is always good, friendly and fast. My family has been coming to eat here since before I was born. It's a great place to bring your family as the food portions are served family style. They do have lunch and dinner specials if it's just a party of 1 or 2 so you don't have to order a bunch of plates. I absolutely LOVE their Thai tea here it a must for me and my parents every time. I recently came with my grandma and we FEASTED! I ordered a lunch special and she ordered a dinner special and we had food for the next two days! Food is ALWAYS delicious which is why we keep coming back. The servers are always friendly and sweet. If you're boujee this isn't a fancy establishment but this restaurant carries lots of love and warmth. It does need a bit of love, it's not your Instagram influencer environment. Our Family has been going there since they opened in the late 60"s. We were just kids then, now were going and taking our kids and Grandkids and the food is just as good now that it was in the past. Food has good flavor, I always get the pan fried noodles and shrimp fried rice. I wish that they would use larger shrimp not the small ones they use. Ive always gotten bigger shrimp at other restaurants. Portions are small since they're in the traditional to go boxes not the styrofoam containers. But if you ask, they'll use the styrofoam ones and I felt like it's a little more food. The location isn't modern but it's clean and parking is horrible. But overall the staff is nice and friendly. After visiting with some family earlier in the day, along with a few of my aunties, my mother and my lil one, we stopped in for a late lunch. There were 5 adults and my lil girl. We were quickly seated and were given a nice large table, perfect for the high chair that we needed. I was surprised! This was my 1st visit here. Not only were the prices more than reasonable but their menu was quite large. They had all the usuals as well as a menu of specialty items. We ordered several things: - almond duck w brown gravy - HK style seafood chow mein - eggplant w fish fillet in black bean sauce - tofu w bbq pork - bbq pork fried rice - sweet & sour pork - sautéed seasonal veggies Everything was quickly prepared and made it out to our table in about 10-15 minutes. Yum! You won't find the eggplant with tofu in a black bean sauce on the menu. It was something that we had to ask them to change up a bit, because with our already having ordered deep fried pork, we didn't want many more things fried or in a sweet and sour sauce at all. otherwise, the eggplant is deep fried and in a sweet and sour sauce. Anyway, the servers were all very sweet. They made friends with my lil one by the time we were done with our meal. She waved "Hi." to them throughout the meal. They refilled our water and tea so often we didn't have to ask. That was nice!! Everything was just so pleasant. Unlike other Chinese restaurants, they did not rush us or push us to leave. It was so nice to just be able to hang out for a change. I think after tip, our bill was about $72 or so. That was wonderful! Each dish is plentiful in portion and the flavor was so good. There's this kinda old school charm about the restaurant although you can tell they have probably done some updating not too long ago. The restrooms are in the back near their back door, which is easily accessible from the parking lot in the back. Yesterday, the parking lot was fuller than usual. I'm not sure if it is because there were a number of people shopping in the stores that are in that same plaza or if it is because of the church that is just down the street? Either way, they have a nice big lot in the back and give yourself a few minutes and I bet you'll find something open up IF it is that full. I'd come back here again. I'd bring my hubby even. He likes to try new places. I think he'd be pleased with this one. The portions are a good size. I have noticed, though, a change in the way they're making their Kung Pow Chicken, and it's not good. Apparently, you can ask for them to make the Kung Pow the old way! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.. The hot and sour soup was only hot temperature wise, and had no flavor. Same for the Thai spicy seafood soup. The tomato beef chow mien was good although the "pan fried" noodles were soft when they are supposed to be crispy, but I will say the vegetables were fresh. As for the fried rice, it made me think I had Covid with how flavorless it is. Also, the Thai milk tea was just instant Thai tea mix. Randomly encountered this restaurant on a Wednesday afternoon. Some of my favorite dishes here are the kung pow chicken and fried rice. The service here is very good and attentive so that's a plus one for me. It's a very old fashioned restaurant, however, the flavor and texture of food was great! Apparently, it has been under new ownership for sometime, and I'm glad I gave it a try because the food was great. I would definitely come here more often because you never know if you don't try!! read more
