Today was no different, we went for a nice Sunday, family meal. Brendon our waiter was exceptional and took great care of us. He made sure water glasses were full and plates were cleared on time. Super friendly and attentive! The food was delicious. I had the seared tuna which was perfectly cooked, others in our party enjoyed Sea bass, short ribs and NY steak all were excellent. Obviously, Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Chandler have some swanky places - dress up and all. But figured if Quiches and Pies is great, Cuisine and Wine can't be worse, and it didn't disappoint. The dining room is a cross between casual and formal - you can dress up, or you can be casual. Excellent wine selection and viewable as you walk in. Friendly, unassuming but professional service. You don't feel like you have to pronounce everything with a French accent. I had a French Pinot, and the wife a glass of white (forgot the name.) Appetizer de jour: stracciatella. The cheese is called cheese described is burrata (I researched it) and its the outer casing fresh mozzarella with a creamy cottage cheese like consistency. Very mild. Served with bruschetta and prosciutto. Main course: Wife - Filet mignon wellington - absolutely excellent. The filet was tender and juicy. The pastry - light and flaky and delicious! Serviced with Gratin potatoes. Excellent. I had duck with a cherry sauce. Served with very thinly sliced fried potatoes. Excellent - my only critique, duck was just a little tough. Desert: I had Pain pardu - bread pudding with carnalized apples. Light, soft, not too rich. Wife had a chocolate lava cake - like eating a chocolate mousse truffle. Excellent. Nice change of pace. Wife had an Amaretto Sour, which is made with Disaronno and she loves that drink, saying it's well balanced and she likes that they don't use the egg foam on top. She also ordered off the Crabby Hour menu some scallops on the half shell and some roasted brussels sprouts. This place knows how to roast spouts so that they are tender and toasted and not overdone. So yummy! The scallops are served with a light ponzu sauce drizzled over which complimented the tender scallops. Delicious! From the Restaurant Week menu, I chose the crab & Artichoke dip which we love and it isn't typically on their menu. It was so good and I had to ask for some extra toast points because there was so much dip! I also got the stripped bass, which was cooked to perfection although a smaller portion than the one you get from the regular menu. They do bass right! And for dessert, chose the Pumpkin Pot de Creme, which was my first taste of pumpkin for the season. Creamy and so good although I took off most of the whip cream because it was a lot. There were 8 of us, including 2 children, and the service was slow throughout the entire meal. We found ourselves waiting on our server quite a bit, which was especially frustrating with a larger group. One of the biggest concerns was accommodating my mother's shellfish allergy. We were told the kitchen only has one fryer, so she could not have the chips or anything prepared in the fryer. Our waiter offered fresh tortillas to go with the salsa and guacamole, which my mother appreciated. However, when the tableside guacamole was prepared, the person making it specifically asked about allergies. We told him about the shellfish allergy, and he then asked whether onions would be an issue because he wasn't sure whether the guacamole contained shellfish. That was honestly pretty alarming when we had already clearly communicated a serious allergy. The food was also disappointing, particularly considering the prices. The portions on most dishes were quite small. The only portions that felt appropriate were the pork shoulder tacos, kale salad, and burger and fries from the "Young Adults" menu. There isn't a traditional kids menu, but there is a "Young Adults" menu, which I found a little odd, especially when the burger was $13 and the fries alone were $8. I ordered the mahi mahi tacos for $26, and the portion was extremely small for the price, especially since it didn't include a side. The breaded fish was so pale that it was almost the same color as the tortillas underneath it, and overall, the dish just didn't feel like a $26 entrée. Another person in our group ordered the 10 oz prime flat iron steak for $55, and after cooking, it appeared to be closer to a 5 oz portion. For $55, that was very underwhelming. Then, when we received the bill, we noticed that the fresh tortillas provided to accommodate my mother's shellfish allergy were charged at $5. I don't necessarily object to being charged for something, but considering they were specifically offered as an accommodation because she couldn't safely eat the chips, it would have been nice to know there would be an additional charge. We were also celebrating a birthday. The staff knew this and told us they had a dessert coming for the birthday girl. They brought out the napkin and spoon, and then we waited approximately 15 minutes for the dessert to actually arrive, and we were charged for it as well. Again, the charge itself isn't necessarily the issue. It was the lack of communication and the overall execution. The one major positive was the cocktails. The Mission Sour, Saturday Morning Cartoons, and West Wind were all delicious. Honestly, the cocktails were easily the best part of the experience. Overall, I really wanted to like The Mission because the atmosphere is beautiful and the restaurant has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, the experience felt like the aesthetics were prioritized over hospitality, food quality, portion sizes, and execution. For the prices they're charging, I expected much more. I also wanted to mention the music extremely loud, and the floors are wet and slippery. At least 2 people almost slipped and fell while we were there. I most likely wouldn't return for dinner. If I did come back, it would probably just be for a cocktail.

It is located in a gated community on a golf course, but is open to the public. We had a reservation for 5 o'clock and were seated immediately. Our waitress Lauryn greeted us with a lovely smile and provided menus. Companion and I both had virgin margaritas, companions with cranberry and mine with strawberry. Both were excellent. While it was restaurant week, we both decided to order off the regular menu. Prices were very moderate for all items which was a surprise. I started off with a complimentary onion soup which while not authentic was a good try at the flavor and texture. It came with a cap of cheese properly melted over the top. Companion ordered the fish and chips which came with some excellent french fries and were cooked perfectly. For myself, I had the Walleye which was pan fried and which had a parmesan/potato covering that protects the fish from the heat and keeps it moist. The walleye was perfectly cooked and a delight to eat. Unfortunately, it came with brussel sprouts which while seasoned properly were undercooked to the point that I could not put a fork in it nor cut it with a knife. Dessert was interesting. Companion ordered affogato which is a ball of vanilla ice cream which then has a shot of espresso poured over it. The ice cream was good but the espresso seemed a bit harsh over it. For myself, I had the strawberry cheesecake gelato, and I found myself in dessert heaven. I've had many gelatos in my life and this one topped them all. Smooth, creamy, and loaded with flavor it was almost hypnotic to eat it. I found out that it is a creation of Villa Dolce Artisan Desserts which is a partner of Sysco Foods. The company produces this wonderful dessert in a 76000 square foot facility located in Glendale, AZ. If I can find a local place that sells the pints I will fill my freezer with it! The atmosphere, the crew, the cocktails, the food... it all just feels like such a great addition to downtown Gilbert. Perfect for date night, celebrations or just to go sit at the bar! Not to mention they are open full service menu until midnight Friday and Saturday! Let's start with the cocktails because WOW. I have been waiting for a place in downtown Gilbert that genuinely cares about high-quality, creative craft cocktails, and Rosewood absolutely knocked this menu out of the park. Every bartender we've interacted with has been phenomenal and so personable -- Manny, Kate, and Haley were a few and were all amazing. Even Tate, the beverage director, came out to introduce himself and make sure our experience was memorable. That kind of hospitality goes a long way. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with the cocktail menu, all their cocktails are SO creative but the ones I tried so far that are personal standouts were the Pulp Fiction, El Dorado, and Desert Rose. They also let us sample the frozen rosé, and it was PERFECT on the hot night we were there, so delicious. For apps, the shishito peppers were hands-down the best I've ever had, as in I low-key went back a second time because I was craving them! We also tried the Brussels, heirloom carrots, and gameballs, and everything was delicious and the perfect amount to share. It seems like a lot of new restaurant concepts have forgotten what it means for the front-of-house team to bring the wow factor and create a great experience. These days, you come across a lot of order takers. There's a big difference between simply taking someone's order and actually knowing how to create an experience for your guests. The team at Rosewood gets it. The service was attentive and genuine, and you could tell they actually cared about the experience we were having. That kind of hospitality makes a difference and is a big reason I'll be back. Also, this is a great date-night spot. Great atmosphere, great food, and service that actually adds to the experience.
