I'm still in the restaurant and had to write this review. This is the worst chow king I've been to. The crunchy chicken was flat, no taste and the pandit that came with it tasted old. Not to mention it took nearly 20 minutes to get my order. My friend had to send back his crispy soy chicken because as he cut into the chicken there was a lot of blood. My wife also ordered 2 bottled waters and which the cashier confirmed and turned out they don't server bottled water. This is pure lack of management and as I look at older reviews there hasn't been any improvements. If you think this is "chow king" think again. However when I had realize that I was waiting for my order for 25 minutes I look over and it just happened for me to see a MANAGER PJ chatting with another employee on the phone while it was busy and everyone wanted Halo-Halo. Order took so long. Placed an order for 2 chicken noodles and 2 siopaos. There were poster ads that said the siopaos would be for a dollar when you order a chicken noodle. The following morning, read my receipt and learned that I was overcharged for the siopaos. They charged me $1.99 for each. Called the manager and explained the situation. I was surprisingly and shockingly told that if we didn't mention the promo ad, we would be charged the regular price. What???!!! That's false advertisement. It should be automatic. In my opinion, Chowking has the best Halo Halo, & I have tried plenty. It is loaded with red beans, yellow beans, coconut jelly, coconut string, red jelly, green jelly, flan, scoop of ube ice cream on the top, ube smeared on the cup, with just the right amount of ice & condensed milk. I had lunch here the other day after discovering that Manila Fast Food is closed on Mondays. I was at a complete loss for what to order so I just went with the fried chicken since it looked kind of good in the pictures. The chicken was alright, but I think I prefer Jollibee's. I only took one bite of the bihon and remembered that I don't really like glass noodles. They were super bland. This chow king is mediocre at best. Biggest turn off is the prices. Firstly, the portion of what they give you is terrible. I came here several times for the lauriat meals. They barely give you any thing at all. And i came paying 8 bucks for a meal. Compared to what I can get at panda express. Secondly, the meals dont look as appetizing as displayed on the pictures. They look like poorly made chinese knockoff. The only pros are their deserts. I like the black gulaman and halo halo. But still its hella small. first time going to this chow king last Sunday (12-21-14) and I have to say it's very dirty. There were water spots on the floor. Black markings of dirt on the floor. Tables were dirty. I don't why people here have NO customer service skills. We walk up to the register and the girl behind the counter doesn't even smile. Not even a greeting or a "Can I get your order?" I was having some serious arroz caldo cravings so I stopped by Chow King for the first time in Mira Mesa to get my fix. I ordered arroz caldo with NO eggs and no chicken meat. (I was traumatized by balut.) I took a seat as I waited for my food. After about ten minutes I see that my order is ready, but the cashier wasn't ready. She was busy serving other customers... the ones who ordered after me got their food before me. My food sat there for another ten more minutes before she took a peek at it and saw that it had eggs AND chicken. She hands it back to the people in the kitchen who fishedout the meat and egg with tongs. They handed it back up to the front. As she was packing my food, she dropped the plastic utensils on the floor and picks it back up to put into my bag. Ehhh, not very sanitary. I was dissappointed when I got home. They didn't even bother to put in more arroz caldo after removing the other stuff so the container wasn't full. The taste was meh. I don't bother reviewing every single restaurant I patronize because I think it is pretty obvious what you're going to get in most cases; notably, at the fast food chains. However, I decided to submit a review for this joint mainly as a "warning" to any discerning foodies. I've eaten at this Chow King a total of 3 times already..in fact, 3 times too many. The first couple of times were average to below average. This last time was downright disappointing. So I'm calling it quits. That's it. No more. Nada. Even if it is cheap, it ain't worth it. It is comical to see the Chow King posters affixed to the wall of this restaurant that portray an Asian chef, donning a chef's hat, cooking/wokking up some delectable dishes that this restaurant supposively offers. This past outing, all I ordered were a couple of fairly tame menu items - fried rice and steamed pork buns. I understand whole-heartedly that at a fast-food restaurant, what you order will *not* resemble the photo depiction placed next to the menu above the cashier...really, I get that. But my gosh, at least make some attempt. I tell you, the photo of the fried rice looked delicious - the shrimp, the sausage and green onion. What was actually served was a bland dish with a couple of bay shrimp, some onions and sliced hot dog thrown in. And the steamed pork bun - the brown mush filling did not look or taste anything like pork. I know this stuff isn't made on the premises so they better find a different Asian foods distributor. Just plain bad. You know that queasy gut feeling you get after you've eaten food that has a shelf-life of an eon (e.g., Slim Jim's, Hostess Twinkies, movie popcorn doused with artificial butter flavoring, etc.)? Riding back to PB from Escondido, my bf and I decided to make a stop in Mira Mesa to cruise around the plazas to check out what they had to offer. Besides being extremely (possibly verging on ridiculously) excited about finding a Barnes & Noble, I was also pleased to find the Seafood City Supermarket that I'd been told also existed in Mira Mesa as well as National City. After spending so much time driving around the plazas my bf and I were starving and less then thrilled to find no other Filipino food places besides Chowking. Not because their food stinks but because it's a chain and not what we wanted. However we still decided to eat at it since we haven't tried it yet. Walking in, it was pretty crazy (especially since it's attached to the Seafood City Supermarket) and completely filled with Filipinos, except for my bf and another white couple. Why is it that even in the U.S., every Asian place, whether it be a food place or a supermarket, is insanely hectic and raises my blood pressure in less then 5 minutes? Oh well, I guess you just have to embrace it or leave! Anyway, we were pleasantly surprised to see all the food that was offered on the all-Filipino menu. And I was doubly-pleasantly surprised to find among all the Filipino dishes my beloved spaghetti---Filipino-style, of course! After looking through the choices, we decided to share a dish and ordered a beef dish with garlic rice and bihon (a Filipino noodle dish) and mango juice. Here's where the complaining comes in. The style of the restaurant is fast food chain. That means your food should be ready in less the 15 minutes, right? And I think 15 minutes is pushing it, seriously. Anyway, when we ordered the place was packed and we sat at a table to reserve it while waiting. The constant crowd near the registers should've been the first telling sign of the bad service at this place. People were asking where there food was left and right while I patiently waited and observed (in true Yelp-reviewer style). I even watched as two different customers who had already ordered and paid were asked to come back to the register and were told that they had "run out of the food" they had ordered and were asked if they would want something else. One couple, in particular, I felt very badly about. They had ordered a chicken dish and were told they had no more of it and were offered another chicken dish in its place----but would not be ready for another 45 minutes! WTF! They didn't throw a fit or anything, which I give them tons of credit for, and the poor old man even said "Darn! I was really really looking forward to that chicken..." Awww....poor guy! They decided to leave instead. I continued my wait, hoping not to be one of the unlucky ones to be called to the register only to be told they didn't have anymore of what I ordered after waiting 20 minutes. I was beginning to get the feeling that they'd forgotten my order because the place was starting to slowly empty out so I flagged someone behind the register down and asked how much longer. He went back to the cooking area and asked another woman who, to me said, "I'll get it right now." Wow. So had I been forgotten? I'll never know now since I spoke up. We finally got our food about 35 minutes later, and our juice (yes, they didn't even give us our juice right away). The food was great! The rice? Garlic? Seriously?! GENIUS! SSSOOO YUUMMY!!!! The beef portion was kind of stingy to me considering how long we'd waited, but the bihon was perfect! The juice was also good, kinda of sweet at first but as it got more diluted by the shaved ice it got a lot better. I would've given this place a 5 for fast food and product, but it wasn't fast at all and it was just too hectic. The food was worth coming back for, maybe not at this location, but I'm hoping it was just a fluke! Probably not. I always order the siopow (sp?) for my mom in the freezers here. They are a fan of it. I also am a fan of the Ube shakes and the breakfast platters! those are probably the only thing I order from here. Not a fan of any of the soups or anything else. Although once I had the chicken with the brown gravy sauce and it was pretty good. Don't really remember anything else which in that case means it must have not been that good! Although I can only speak to the drink item I decided to indulge in one evening our experience is still worth mentioning here on yelp. We ended up ordering two milk teas and were surprised at how long it took to receive them. It was later in the evening so there were only two other customers seated at tables. It seemed a bit odd but we weren't in a rush so we didn't sweat it. Once we got our drinks, I was able to finish my milk tea and somewhat enjoy it. However, I was disappointed that it wasn't quite right. It wasn't wrong per se because it tasted fine...it just wasn't the type of milk tea I was expecting. I guess I am used to milk teas from Tapioca Expresses and what not. Oh well...at least now I know that Chowking's drink won't satisfy my milk tea craving but perhaps I can try their other treats such as their halo halo. read more

I love love love the king's breakfast with tocino! It's usually the only thing I ever order from Chow King. I can never go wrong with tocino, itlog and bangus! I did take a star off because the portion size always varies. Sometimes it will be way too much food or very miniscule. They're supposed to serve the king's breakfasts all day. Well one day, I ordered my favorite and told me that they weren't cooking it because they were out of bangus (fish). How the heck can you be out of fish when your store is right next door to Seafood City? You have a connecting door into the store for crying out loud!! Anyways, I had the crispy soy chicken and it was just okay. My brother had the exact same thing except his was made rare, which he had to give back to them. After the bloody crispy soy chicken that my brother had, it totally ruined my appetite for mine. So despite being hungry, I barely ate my meal. My husband didn't like their crunchy chicken either. My little girl loves pancit, and she didn't even want to take a second bite of theirs after the first taste.
