I had a great color experience yesterday with Lexy. We did a partial balayage with shades of red. We started with a consult and I described what I was looking for and showed her some photos, and she did a really good job setting expectations based on the commitment I could make to my hair, i.e. how often I would want color services, so we could make good choices about what kinds of colors to use (ones that fade well and need less upkeep). With my hair freshly cut by Arvin, so short that all of my hair was its natural color (which it hasn't been for years), I'm very happy with the results! The shades of red are what we talked about, bold enough that they stand out in my naturally black hair, but not so crazy that it screams fire truck. I'm definitely looking forward to building on this with my next visit with her. :) Update re: the blowout policy: I spoke with someone (receptionist or manager) prior to my appointment and they explained to me that since it was my first color service there that the blowout would be complimentary to ensure that I was happy with my color. I definitely appreciated them following up with me on that issue. But it did sound like it was a one-time thing, so clients still should be aware that typically after color services if you're not a new color client and not having a haircut, they won't blow out your hair. I assume that they tell new color clients as they come. That said, they do have a self-styling bar with hot tools and products for clients to use if they're opting out of the additional blowout after a color-only service. I think that's a nice option, especially if there's a product you'd like to try on yourself. read more

Charles (hair) and Stephanie (makeup) were the epitome of professional, and brought so much fun to my big day. I honestly don't leave reviews too often unless something is really great or really terrible...and unfortunately, Cinta Salon falls into the latter category. I actually found out about the place through salon apprentice, so going in I had expected a slower experience, but had assumed that it would be a satisfactory one: this was not the case. Prelude: I had scheduled a bleach and tone (hair colour) with Danielle. I sent her some pictures beforehand of the blue-grey colour I wanted to achieve (attached so y'all can see), she told me it sounded good, and quoted me $50. I have Asian hair, a bit more difficult to lift but possible (I've seen examples and specifically looked up pictures of other Asians with the same hair colour to show) DAY OF APPOINTMENT #1: I show up. Check in, sit down. See Danielle talking with a few others in the salon (one was supposedly the colour instructor. They look uneasy. I wait for about 15 mins before Danielle comes up to me, tells me she "doesn't have time for me" today despite scheduling in the afternoon, and I am placed with another student, Dahlia. I asked if anything was wrong. They tell me no, and then I am asked if I wouldn't mind a darker grey than my pictures--I tell them a dark blue grey is fine, as long as it's a cool tone. I sit for the next three and a half hours for the bleaching process. At no point in time am I told something is wrong, not even by the colour instructor (supposedly meant to supervise the process). I'm even told by Dahlia my hair lifted a lot more than expected. I say good, so the grey won't be a problem? And am assured it will be fine. Around 8 hours later, I have brown hair. Brassy. Brown. Hair. I tell Dahlia this and remind her of the initial photos--she tells me I can do the dye myself at home for the grey I am looking to achieve. I bring this up at the front, and the receptionists look uneasy and try to pass it off as my hair "being too dark after bleaching", but when asking yet ANOTHER stylist, he tried to say that my hair had "already lifted more than expected", contradictory to the front desk. After yet ANOTHER wait as the receptionist calls the manager (I usually don't insist, but this brown looks really really bad, worse than what I could do at home), and am told that their solution is for me to pay half price and to come back with a "more advanced" student to fix the hair to my original plan. I agree, but they try to charge me $60-which was even more than the $50 quoted originally. Eventually I show them the email and pay $25. APPOINTMENT #2: is with Danielle and she admits the original tone is terrible and completely different from my request (which the original appt did not). We do another bleach and tone. About 2 hours in, she tells me my hair is lifting to her liking and should take to the grey blue I wanted. I said great...and another few hours later, am told that it will be a grey rather than blue grey. Keep in mind instructors and more experienced colorists are there the whole time. Ok, fine, as long as it's grey. Plop down in the chair...it's not grey at all, it's BROWN with green blue at the bottom and my black hair roots abruptly showing at the top. Tl;dr. Went in for blue grey hair. It's brown, even after TWO half-day long appointments. Salon was pretty terrible at providing customer service despite knowing their screw up. If you have dark/asian hair and want a colour job; don't come in. Just don't. People I have related this story to have been shocked I still had to pay (and that I ended up tipping). I guess I'm not super insistent, but wanted to post this horror story for everyone to see. Pros: -situated near civic center BART (easy to get to) -some street parking (metered) -free mediocre tea/coffee/water, not that you can drink it for most types of service... Cons: -can't colour asian hair -won't admit to mistakes -terrible service all around -tried to charge me $95 for student colour instead of quoted $50 -see pics below. read more

Got a same day last minute appointment with Reynold, a master stylist on a Saturday. Cut for about $150 including tip. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. The stylist listened to what I wanted and then gave me advice on what would be the best course of action. He's been there for 7 year's and clearly knew what he was doing. This is a very nice and efficient place. Rocky did my color change, and she did a great job. Davis was my stylist. She was on top of her game. The 1 star off is for the people at the front desk. I've been to Cinta 4 times and I've only been happy once with my cut. The latest cut wasn't quite what I wanted, the color wasn't what we discussed, and lastly there was no post style, just a simple blowout. I gotta say: I didn't leave feeling fabulous and less impressed when I get home. The salon is convenient and hip, and for the most part the stylists are nice, but I never feel too welcome and I haven't been that impressed with the cuts. Prices aren't cheap either. Not a bad option, but not for me. read more

LOVE this place. I made an appointment through phone and on NYE. Got a RVSP quick. Inside it super nice and clean and comfy. Service is exceptional, while waiting they serve you coffee, tea and water. Hannah was my stylist. She was great and super understanding with what I needed. I got a shampoo and blow out for $35! ( checkin for 30% off)! She did an amazing job and made sure my hair lasted the whole night and it did! I would definitely come back here again! Hello, I was at the salon at 5 PM yesterday for a haircut with a,"Master" designated stylists who also happens to command rates at the higher end of Cinta's price spectrum. The haircut was horrific, uneven not just in one spot but several. This is the worst haircut I have ever and blotchy, had, this comparison includes Supercuts and some of roadside barber shops that I have visited in remote parts of India. Blondes really do have more fun. They also have more split ends and more expensive salon visits, for sure, but you can't put a price on that fun. It's taken me a LONG time (a decade?) to find a salon that really excels in the color department. After 5 visits at Cinta, I am confident they've got some of the best colorist talent in town. Litsa is my girl, and has kept me looking "naturally" blonde (or whatever kind of blonde I want to be) for the past year. I show her a pic, she delivers. She's not only precise, but quick too! I can be in and out in under 2 hours -- pretty amazing. The salon is bright and loft-like, with great people watching below on Grant Street. The place is always buzzing, and the stylists are living proof of the talent here; they always have interesting cuts & color to envy. Plus, they serve that delicious Aveda tea and have the most recent issues of every girly magazine in existence. Price-wise, there are various levels of styllists so you pick one that fits your budget. Prices are clearly listed on their website, and you can book online. Love! Ladies, we all know that variety is the spice of life. Is there anything that Cinta Salon doesn't do? This is a huge salon and I love the fact that Cinta has a range of stylists who are versed in just about any and every service in the book. So far, I've been in for a mani-pedi and a couple of blowouts. I was referred by a colleague, who suggested I check it out for mani-pedi services and more. Now keep in mind, I'm a loyalist. Definitely not the kind of girl who likes to jump around, if you know what I mean. So I found a good blowout stylist, and I'm sticking to her. Her name is Davis and she's done my blowouts twice now. Let me tell you, she is a wiz with my curly-a** hair (check out my photo). Got me gala-ready in less than an hour (what!?). I will also report that my mani-pedi (from another lady whom I can't recall her name) lasted well-over a week, which is unheard of for my hands. For my nail aficionados in the house, Cinta has a ginormous range of OPI nail polishes and Seche Vite top coat :) Nothing but the best. I'm heading back in a few weeks for lash extensions, and you know I'll keep you posted. ***I'd highly recommend Cinta Salon to get ready for any special occasion including date night, a special dinner, a gala or even general maintenance. UPDATE: My colorist Alex has moved to Revamp on Market and 15th. I'm back for another yelp review. For the past couple months I've been changing my hair color almost monthly. Surprisingly my hair is still going strong. People often ask me where I get my hair done and how can my hair still stays in the condition as it is now. The trick is you have to go see my colorist Alexandra who keeps my hair super healthy! Not to mention the color is always amazing!!! This time I couldn't really decide what color I want really so I had all the colors on my hair! Quick tip: make sure you ask for olaplex when getting your hair done, best hair treatment ever! I love visiting Alex months and walk out of cinta with awesome hair colors. Okay yelp review update: So my rainbow hair color kinda melted. Unexpectedly my hair turned into this slime color. The neon yello was so strong it went on and covered up some of the other colors. However something cool af happened that turned out the neon yellow freaking GLOW IN THE DARK! So now I have the coolest and most noticeable hair when I go out. Done. read more

I came here armed with a Gilt City deal earlier this year for a blowout deal. The deal made the blowout quite the steal because I definitely wouldn't have paid retail for the quality of blowout that I received. When I first got to the salon, I had to wait for 20 minutes before my stylist arrived. Fine. I guess this stuff happens even if it was 9:30 in the morning...and they had just opened. smeh. My stylist was just late and no one told me..and I guess that's a little less ok. I told my stylist that I wanted to get a blowout done...loose flowing curls for a special occasion. My appointment was in the morning and I told her that my hair was pretty stubbornly straight..so I'd definitely need to use product in it and the hair would need to last through the day and through a flight down to SoCal. Throughout the entire session the stylist seemed uncertain with what products to use. She didn't handle my hair very well and I had to stop her a couple of times because she pinned my hair up in a painful way. The products they used weren't even the same brand..and I ended up with a hodgepodge of mousse, spritz, hairspray, and root lifter in my hair. She then proceeded to curl it. Not..a nice loose curl..which I had requested, but a tight shirley temple curl. Sigh. Now I haz fro. I ended up yanking at the curls immediately after the appointment and throughout the day...and finally ended up with a more manageable curl by the time the event started. Results weren't terrible..but sheesh, not impressed with the technique or the stylist..and very thankful for the Gilt City deal. read more

FEELING BRAND NEW. This salon has it all from a blow dry bar, wax station, makeup, skin care, bridal, etc. the space is very clean and chic. And the stylists here are very talented. They carry two of my favorite hair products Kerastase and Blumble-and-Bumble but for wash and treatment we use Kerastase. It is more on the higher-end but everything is quality here. Every time I see my stylist I always feel brand new. My stylist moved here and I am very happy that she did. Go see her she's amazing and handles my Asian thick coarse hair with awesomeness. My cuts with Tina are $75 and I add in the Kerastace treatment for $25 - helps hydrate the hair! Feeling great every time I walk out the salon with "salon" feeling hair. Cinderella for the evening! My BF's holiday work party was a 1920's theme, so I needed a little help pulling off the right look. The concierge at the St. Francis recommended the salon, and after a quick yelp check I decided to book a hair styling and makeup appointment. HAIR w/Irina: Absolutely stellar experience! Irina was very accommodating, considering I showed up with damp hair. Damp hair adds additional time to the appointment, because it has to be dried, and I was on a tight timeline, because my makeup appointment was scheduled for an hour later. Irina was able to make it work though. She listened to my idea for a type of hairstyle (flapper style faux bob), and I showed her some styles I saw online, and she also asked to see a photo of the dress I was wearing. She was very informed regarding the hairstyles and hair types of that era. I have long hair and she did a phenomenal job, especially since she's never seen me prior to the appointment! My sister thought I had cut my hair it was that convincing. She covers all bases too: aesthetic and functional. She had me shake my hair really hard after it was all pinned up, and she added additional pins to make sure they were secured. Even after the appointment she made sure I was all set with a beverage while I waited for makeup, and even came back to keep me updated. Love her! MAKEUP w/ Kat: Kat did a wonderful job. I let her know I was going for the flapper style makeup, but I also let her know I was open to any recommendations. She did a toned down version of the flapper look. She did an excellent job applying everything. It wasn't uncomfortable at all. I hardly felt it when she was applying the individually grouped lashes. The look was fab in person, although it didn't photograph as well as I wanted to. I didn't mention though that photos would be a big thing. Overall the look was great. Kat did a fab job. Sit back and let Alex give you the shampoo and serious head massage. I'd pay extra for the massage to go 5' longer than the usual. + Walked in with no idea except that I had a big birthday drink that night and wanted to look the part. She sized me up (wore leather pants and Converse) and pitched her idea. We were going to do rock and roll. And it rocked. + It's my second time using Alex so I'll say she is consistent on the output. The first time I met her I was super late and she still managed to crank something out for me in a short amount of time. + My hair-do is on Day 3. I hate to let it go. Great textures and curls which I maintained by pining them and sleeping on them. + There is complimentary drinks like tea and coffee. + My hair made me walk out like a rock star. The hide-me-under-Safeway-bag moments -'s: - There are no head under the bag moments for me. Except...when I didn't use Alex. When I did use someone else (because she was booked) I had a disastrous outcome. I had to spray water on it and fix it. The salon offers other services such as cuts, colors, nails and so forth. TIP: Alex is the one to book for hair styling. No need to try the others if you have found the one. read more
