I love my hairdresser here but I am pretty angry right now about the "service" salon management has given me. I had an appointment booked for my birthday about a week after shelter in place was ordered so it was canceled. I waited and waited and got a bunch of emails letting me know that when things opened I would get priority because of my canceled appointment. Well I check out their site today and low an behold they are taking reservations and I received Zero Notification about it. A close friend of mine comes here and has amazing hair, so I did a hair modeling program here once. My hair was cut by a student, which I wasn't so crazy about, but the teacher was very involved and took care to make sure nothing went wrong, fixing it up when it did. I really like the salon itself. The people were friendly, and it didn't take as long as it has for hair modeling in the past, but I have to say I like Vidal Sassoon's Program better...Cinta charged me to be model whereas Vidal did not. I wish for Cinta Gibbons to read and respond to me. I thought i had booked for a model color as i always do. To my surprise the fee was $81. the caRD I had on me had $25 on it. I can't spend if i don't having money on a card. The manager dressed me down in front of 4 people standing at the check in. I was told just because your not thinking clearly due to my brothers unanticipated death on Sunday, no excuse and you already told me. She then said if i don't come back with the check I'll never be allowed into the salon. Since I came to the city, I had trouble finding and trusting a hairdresser, after a couple of bad experiences with people that claim they know what they're doing, but they shouldn't have a right to call themselves hairdressers. Can't believe my luck running into this place and having my hair cut by Charles. Fun and honest, not only did he use his own awesome amazing technique of cutting, he taught me what kind of behavior I should practice in care of my hair in its current stadium. There is, after all, still people like him in this world that make me see that this is in fact both an art and a science. I left this place happy. I have been coming to this Salon for 5 years and only leaving a review because I am moving away. I have been getting my hair cut by Irena for the past 5 years and so sad that I am leaving her. Every time I have left the salon I feel like a million bucks. Irena always listens to new ideas and always gives her expert input as well. I like to do some research before I get my hair cut so its fun to bring in pictures of what I want and make it my own. The best part is Irena has really taught me so many styling tips so when I get home, my hair will still look great. For color, Kendall is amazing! Shes been on magazines and won awards. I had permanent black hair for years and she was able to take me from black back to my natural hair color all by doing balayage on my hair. Never once had to have red hair which was my biggest fear from going to black hair to brown hair. The best part is my hair was never damaged and now I have my natural hair color. I once had my hair done in an up-do for New Years Eve and was literally so adorable. I told her I wanted something classic mad men style. My hair stayed up all night and I could have probably slept on it, thats how sturdy it was. My only recommendation is to go in the morning so you can show off your hair all day! read more

What can I say...I LOVE Cinta salon, but having 3 kids, I can't always afford to splurge on myself. But when I can, I will go to Cinta salon who have always consistently done beautiful hair treatments, cuts, and color. they have an attention to detail, record the work done in the past, so everything is on file and there ready for you if you want the same thing done again. The problem with me is that I make sporadic decisions that I want to cut my hair and then can't get in because they book fast. Then I end up going to some mediocre place and then get disappointed because the work is not up to par. Next time - pre-book for future appointment. I will be seeing them soon again! Most awful experience for someone who's booked in a month ahead of time and drove and hour to get to their salon for the first time! After choosing the color I wanted to dye my hair I specifically asked I don't want highlights or two-tones so just a regular hair dye so it won't damage my hair as much since it's the first time I do it. Tinee who I have originally booked with asked if I wanted another professional opinion cause she is not that experienced, I didn't mind it. The manager comes up to me and says Tinee isn't comfortable doing my hair (probably she's scared of how it might turn out) and they can't do anything for me! Terrible customer service and they have lost an important client. Would not recommend this salon cause they aren't as experienced or professional as they say. read more

Wonderful experience at Cinta, again and again! I usually do my weekly blowouts wherever I'm located, and last night I needed someone to tackle my medusa not-combed-in-a-week hair for nice dinner later. I usually go to drybar or the aveda institute (cheaper but take a long time) but both were pretty slammed, and wanted to come here again as I hadn't used the 30% check in discount. Missy was the stylist at the blowout bar (which they have numerous times available, so very schedule friendly) and she was AMAZING and super great to have! She finished in less than 45 minutes, and my hair looked super fab *insert emoji*. I got a few compliments when went to dinner, so I definitely knew it was a hit because I get a blowout once a week, lol. Definitely go and make sure to tip them!!! read more

Update: After my husband emailed the manager of the salon and voiced how unsatisfied we were with the hair style sinced all the curls and bobby pins had fallen out on the ride home. The manager did respond in a timely manner and said that the salon does offer a 100% customer satisfaction guarantee. She had offered to refund thr price we paid. I also did receive an apology for the style from the stylist herswlf. I do appreciate the fact that the salon did so their best to make the situation right. I've been a regular here for almost a year now, after many failed attempts at other hair salons, and I can tell you 100% this salon is the best. They immediately offer you tea or sparkling or still water and make sure you are comfortable for your whole visit. Specifically I have had Nicole (once for balayage) and she is awesome, but Lara is my all time favorite and she does my bleach and tones every 5-6 weeks and is very patient with me. I come at her every week with new crazy ideas and she somehow manages to meet and exceed expectation every time. San Francisco can be rough on a girl's hair. Lots of wind, cold air and misty fog do not do good things for my 'do. Enter Cinta Salon. Conveniently located near my office, this is a modern, chic full service salon offering a full range of hair services plus manicures and a blowdry bar. I was thrilled to hear they could tame my locks after a long day at the office and do a polish change at the same time. The best part? They have a 30% off check-in deal for first time blowouts! I'll take it. I arrived on time and was taken to change into a robe. They shampooed me and offered me a beverage. My polish change was super on point and I would definitely opt for this again. The blowout was ok. I asked for curls and the curls took what felt like a century. They looked good for the evening but were frizzy and dry by the next day. Great location, even better vibe and solid prices, so I'd return again when in SF. read more

It would take a natural disaster, divine act, unemployment, or an unavoidable move outside of 100 miles radius to make me choose another place for waxing and eye brow threading. The ultimate: Bhavna and her mad skills at threading (eye brows in particular), waxing (hello Brazilian I'm never going back!), and facials. Reynald is a master with the shears! Love my husband's hair cuts at this place. Also the cut lasts twice as long vs. a place that doesn't stick to shear cuts only. What's nice: The pedicures are relaxing plus they include waxing your toes or feet if needed. Aveda products are used throughout for skin care and while I don't usually use them I have no complaints. For hair there are other options. The not so hot: The prices are really upscale! Plan to spend some money honeys cuz this place charges based on their high end quality. Words for the wise manicure lover: sometimes the gel manicure doesn't last as long (not all the time but sometimes). I haven't really pinned down why but it could be related to brand. Found this salon on yelp and was visiting from LA for a wedding. It was right next to our hotel in Union Square. I booked for a dry style with Aspen. When I showed her what I wanted, she informed me that she would have to charge me for an up style instead of a dry style. No problem, I appreciate that she was honest with me instead of finishing my hair and then being surprised with a different price. She was SO nice and was very talkative, I didn't feel the hour pass. She gave me exactly what I wanted: Kim Kardashian's half high ponytail from this year's MET Gala. She was definitely a perfectionist and my hair actually lasted till the next day too. My hair did not budge and survived through a shower (in a shower cap), a night's sleep, and a brunch the next day. I got so many compliments on my hair! read more

What a horrible experience here. I was so excited to get my hair done after seeing some photos on yelp of the grey/silver hair I wanted. I went ahead and booked my appointment with Alex. I showed pictures of the color I wanted and Alex acted like she was too good to even look at them. She just said "yep, I got it. I know exactly what you are talking about." I didn't want to be rude and question her professionalism, so I thought alright, she knows what she's doing. She did not spend one minute on discussing with me what will be done or suggest what is best for my hair. I had to ask her if what she was doing would be damaging at all, or how would she be applying the color. Which she just gave me just short answers that did not help at all. At this point, my heart was telling me I should just go, but I just did not want to be rude and thought maybe she's having a bad day. She started applying my color and everything seemed fine. She barely spoke to me the entire time, but oh well. I'm not there for conversation, I just hope my hair would turn out the way I wanted. She warmed up to me a bit over the appointment, but still very short and very emotionless. I also warned her before hand that my hair tends to turn blue when ash toners are used, which she just said "the way I mix colors are different. I know how to do this." Again, I just decided to trust her. Did I mention during the shampoo she did not bother giving a massage at all? I don't usually care for them, but reading other reviewers, I'm guessing a massage was supposed to be included. When I finally took a look in the mirror, what happened?? BLUE. I asked for silver, came in with a dirty blonde color and ended up with this dark green, blue...brown mess. Finally she realized she fucked up at this point and suggested I come back for a redo. Honestly, none of this would've happened if she would just spend 5 minutes of her time to discuss and really listen to what I wanted in the beginning. But nope, she was a bit too confident in herself and did not bother to listen. NOW THE HAIRCUT. Again, barely looked at the picture I showed her and she just started snipping away. I had to ask her once again on whether she was clear or not about what I wanted. Which she replied "most people are paranoid about getting their haircut, so I just do my thing and they usually end up liking it." The haircut was not terrible, but was definitely terrifying when she started snipping away w/o confirming with me what I really wanted. For $76, I really could've paid $20 at ChinaTown for the same thing. Overall, I learned that I really should not be so nice and assume these hairstylists would really know what they are doing. I should've spoke up...or actually...walk out of there. Just speaking on my experience here, as I'm sure others had a much better one. Maybe Alex was just having a bad day. In the end, I paid $260 after tip for this mess and now my only hope is to keep washing my hair for this damn hideous blue and green mess to wash out. Hopefully it washes out quick! Forreal tho. My friend in NYC, whose nickname is Satan, once told me to never go to anyone who's not Russian for waxing. I didn't pay attention at the time, since her name is Satan and she can be a bit of an asshole at times. Then I went to Baltimore and found a salon with an eyebrow magician who was Russian. My eyebrows haven't ever looked so good. Until now. I hadn't found anyone I was truly crazy about, so I searched Yelp and read about Cinta. I went in for the first time several weeks ago and Tatiana did my eyebrows. We were talking and sure enough, she's Russian (as if the name didn't give it away). She told me she was going to thin them out a bit and give them more shape. Fine. Painless (and I'm a big baby). And magical! I went back to her today and once again I have fantastic eyebrows. I'm not going to anyone else from now on. And she's really nice, which is an added bonus. Moral of the story? Satan may be evil, but she just may be onto something here... read more

Unprofessional. Not recommended! Not sure the stylist knows what they were doing. Had my poor experience last week...my hair was cut unevenly. Called,,,request for their top tier master to cut my hair. The Salon push me to a lower tier stylist. I definitely was not happy to accept it. So I asked to keep my original choice. However, when I get to the salon their master cut told me he is Just good at cutting long hairs. And, he wanted to introduce me some barber for my appointment... Plus over 30 minutes of wait. I've been satisfied with my two previous stylists @ Cinta and the style I walked away with... but today... different story. I had Reynold, who I've never been to. According to their website: "all of our staff members are qualified to the highest standards; you'll see that levels of experience and education are reflected in our tiered price list." So I just trusted that it would be good, based on the website and my two previous experiences. Who knew that "I really love my shape and style and would like just a trim" meant a "hey guy stylist, I'd like an entirely new style that kind of looks like a slightly longer version of yours." Skye is my new favorite stylist. She helped me out with a bang trip awhile back and I just went in for a haircut yesterday. This girl knows all about making your hair look straight and smooth, which is much easier to accomplish in the Bay Area (vs. big, voluminous curls). She's event offered tips on how to flat iron my hair at home so it looks like I made a trip to the salon! Completely underwhelming. I had my hair cut with the bottom line stylist, $58 one, and though I paid only $10 because I was modeling, she normally works there charging $58. I was flexible about the cut. I didn't care. It just simply wasn't very GOOD. I thought there was a lot of hype and though they had the bits and peices of the hybrid spa-salon experience, there wasn't enough follow through and the atmosphere was modern but less than memorable. My stylist was very nice and kind and we had a good conversation but she fumbled with her scissors, dropped them on the floor then picked them up and kept cutting (even my $40 stylist in little San Luis Obispo would get a new pair), and just didn't have the grace of a nearly $60 hair stylist. I can't really recommend this place. I was pretty satisfied with the front of my haircut, but my stylist didn't show me the back at the end, and the next day I learned I had a bit of a lid going on. This review is specifically for a hair coloring appointment. I have been a very loyal customer at Cinta Salon for nearly a year now. I came in with a specific look and was given the opportunity to book a appointment with Jessika; left the exact day with the look I presented! Since then I always took the initiative of booking my hair appointments with her only. I've always had great service from her just until my last visit. Lovely lady but wasn't given the look that I asked for and for my last two visits I've had to come back a second time to get it fixed. If it wasn't for the price and the damage to my hair I probably wouldn't be as disappointed but then again my hair is far from where I wanted it to be. I just recently was referred to a salon on Grant St called Patrick Evan Salon and found out that the look I was going for was far from the process I was getting in the first place. All along my hair color shouldn't have taken as many sessions as it needed and wouldn't have costed me more than $600 in total for all my visits. I plan to make a appointment to fix my hair color since it's far from what I wanted but I hope this review will be useful to others. Let's start with the positive. Maritza is my girl. She is the only reason why I come here. She is their mentor colorist. She is professional and confident in what she does. You can feel her passion with coloring. I had dark hair and wanted one tone light brown hair for a while, but other colorists said its not possible for me and would avoid doing it. Maritza met me for the first time about 2 years ago. Told me it's possible, but it will take 2 visits to lift my hair. I trusted her. My hair has been light brown/blond for 2 years now. It's going to be hard to ever say bye to her. Now the negative. Cinta charges blow drying after your color. I would pay $210 for a color and they would still charge me $15 for a blow dry? I still have to tip the person who blow drys my hair! That's just unheard of. I HATE that actually. I asked the receptionist why they charge it separately. Her answer? She stutters, then says some people don't like their hair being blow dried by someone else. I think that is bullshit. I know I hate to walk out spending $200 on a color and they can't even dry my hair without having to pay another $20. I tried opting out of a blow dry, but felt so cheated and unfinished walking out with my hair wet. That $20 can be used on products. I can rant on about this. If they didn't have someone amazing like Maritza, I would much rather go to another salon who won't scam you for a service that is traditionally included. read more

I'll consider updating again after another visit. ORIGINAL: I've been a Cinta client for on and off 20+ years. After my haircut Friday I'll never go back. I have naturally wavy hair. I am emphatic at the beginning of every haircut "do not texturize or thin my hair" I've been so firm that lead mentor Dympna once said to me "you don't need to tell me every time, I'm a professional, I remember" so with her I softened a bit. I switched to seeing another lead mentor 4-5 five years ago because she does color as well. I again became very, very clear that my hair does not respond well to texturing. Out of the blue at the end of my haircut Friday - after years of listening to me - this other lead mentor grabbed a large area of my hair and began slicing into it. I asked "what are you doing???" Her response "I'm... just softening it...because that's what I like. I'd like it to have some texturizing" as she spliced away. Doing exactly what I told her not to do. I tried working with it for the past week (it's a mess) so I had two consultations with stylists at other salons today. The feedback was its going to take a minimum of two months to grow it out before I can cut the texturizing out. If you go to Cinta salon you have to INSIST on what you want, not ask for what you want. INSIST. $170 haircut plus tax and tip and I'm wearing a hat to hide my hair. A total bummer. read more

I remember this place when I used to work on Maiden Lane. I came here plenty of times when a friend of mine was working here as a make-up artist. I've gotten free nails done, free make-up, free facial (although I paid for some pricey products). But my memory is not about any of those experiences. It's about my first salon haircut in San Francisco. At that time 10 years ago, I was always hesitant to get my haircut from a salon - for one, it's expensive. Till this day I am traumatized that I paid $90 for a haircut I wasn't satisfied with! Initially I had booked an appointment with the hairstylist who my friend suggested that was great doing edgy haircuts. I waited 3 weeks for the appointment. On that day, I arrived and he was not there. They told me I could go with _______, who was good at making clean cuts. I didn't realize that I made a wrong choice by going with a non-Asian stylist at that time. Also my hair looked so FOB, that I decided not to wait another month. They story goes, that my decision led me to a haircut that for weeks I wanted to grow back. Not only that, I would've rather paid my sister $10 to cut my hair and saved $80. Lessons learned: Don't go with another hairstylist if yours don't show up that day. If are Asian, go to Japan Town Beauty Center, where the prices are more reasonable and where they know to manage Asian hair. read more

I've been in need of an edgy different cut from an experienced hairstylist here in SF. I've been going to people here and there getting a basic cut and after reading about Cinta I figured I could get a great cut and it would be worth the price. I got an appointment the same day with a Master Stylist, I walk in I was treated great and the hair wash was probably the highlight of my visit. I explained to my stylist what I wanted and he tells me that we're gonna cut on top and leave the sides as is because they are too short. I agree. Which wasn't what he did at the end. Lets just say that I ended up with a razor cut that I could've gotten anywhere in the Mission for $15 bucks and paid $95 for it. Certainly not in style/edgy but hair grows and now I know now to go back here again and the receptionist at the end of my visit giving me the fakest "I love your hair" compliment did not help. read more

THE WORST SALON IN SAN FRANCISCO...maybe even the world. I'm new to yelp but this review is way overdue. I came here about 2 years ago for a haircut and highlights with a stylist called Christina. She was awful and supposed to be a senior stylist??? The haircut was so bad and unflattering. But if only that was the biggest problem! Sadly it was not. Christina damaged my hair so bad with the highlights by leaving the bleach chemicals way too long and not paying attention to how she applied it. It really burned my scalp too I remember. I had so much damage and split ends. It was serious hair trauma. I can't begin to describe her incompetence! But you know what I see on yelp is that it wasn't just me who gave this salon 1 star. A lot of people did and a few mentioned how bad Christina was too. I don't get how they are rated 4 1/2 stars! Maybe the employees write them or tell their friends to write reviews. If I could give them a -10 stars I would. That's how bad it was. So please if you're even thinking of entering Cinta, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! Your hair will thank you for it, trust me. read more

I was contacted by Cinta Salon after they had reviewed my post on Yelp and offered a refund for the services I received which I was unhappy with, i.e., haircut. Although it had been quite sometime, and I no longer had the receipt, they reimbursed me the amount paid less the tip amount. Although I probably will not be returning for hair cutting services, I was happy with the fact they did take time to contact me and the manager was very apologetic. I called to see if they had a last minute appointment on a Saturday and surprisingly they did! It was my first time coming to this salon and I was paired with Davis. She was very patient, really cared to learn about my hair and what I wanted. She also suggested some really awesome styling tools and didn't push me to buy them at all which was really nice - but I did love them! I love my new haircut and I will def be back to see her :) An update to my previous visit: I got a shampoo and blow dry with Shay and she was amazing! Went in today & it was so awesome! 1. You're welcomed & not rushed (given that you're punctual) & greeted. 2. Clean & fresh even when the place gets busy. 3. Your choice of water, tea, or coffee. The aveda tea isn't too shabby at all. 4. The stylist listens to exactly whatcha want! I was dictated & repressed in my last salon visit that I avoided salons for 7 long months! They really listen to what you want & Anita & the Master stylist delivered way better than I expected. I had a grown out 'Lob' & wanted it to be ready for long layers eventually & they gave me a fab & chic one length! Gone are the raggedy split ends & memory of the sad haircut! 4. Cinta Salon is my new home! After living in San Jose for 4 years, I decided it was time for a change. I packed everything and moved up to San Francisco. One of the things that was on the top of my priority list was to find an amazing salon in the city. I came across Cinta Salon and decided to give it a try. Cinta Salon is located in the Union Square district of San Francisco. Although street parking is not easily accessible there are a couple of parking garages within the vicinity. I believe the closest parking garage is the Ellis-O'Farrell Garage. Quick Tip: You can park in valet for free, just be sure to tip the parking attendant. My appointment was with Maritza for color and Irina for a haircut. Both were friendly, professional, accommodating and extremely talented. During a brief consultation, I expressed to Maritza that I wanted a dark brown color that complemented my skin tone. Using her expertise and judgement, she was able to give me exactly what I wanted She also checked up on me often to make sure my hair color was processing correctly. As for Irina, she gave me an amazing hair cut that complemented the shape of my face. She gave me exactly what I wanted. At the end of my haircut and blow dry she asked if I was happy. I was extremely pleased that she was very caring and accommodating. I sure was happy! Goal accomplished, I found an amazing salon in the city! read more

Came here with a gilt city voucher for a blow out and style before heading to a wedding. My stylist was really stand offish, barely spoke to me, didn't offer any magazines/water/tea as I had seen other stylists do, and didn't listen to me at all about my hair and what I wanted. The curls fell out before the wedding even started! I'm so glad I came with a voucher because if I had paid full price I would have been so much more pissed. I say, try someplace else for blow outs. I gave an extra star because the salon was really clean, other employees were friendly and there was no trying to get me to buy any products. read more

Let me start by saying I have been coming here for close to eight years because the stylists and colorists have always made me feel better and more confident about myself. But things have gone down hill. While they are doing their best to create a prettier exterior, it feels as though the attention they've put towards the current renovation has taken away from the attention they normally put towards how the salon is run. In the past when I walked into Cinta Salon it always felt like a well oiled machine. On my recent visits when I come in for an hour of peace and relaxation with my stylist, the salon feel extremely chaotic, disorganized and completely different from what the salon used to be. After being a dedicated and loyal client, I've realized that the salon in only as good as the stylists. This was confirmed today when I received an email from salon management telling me that my stylist, Skye Sands had left, and that they were so desperate to keep me they offered 50% off my next visit if I saw someone else. Who's running this place? Some people may jump on the opportunity to get a cheap haircut at an expensive salon - but I think it's rather tacky and presumptuous to imagine that my loyalties would be to the salon and not my regular stylist; the person who is doing all the work, the person who I've gotten to know so well, and the one who's responsible for is making me feel great when I walk out the door.
