Located in the Sparks, CJ Palace offers both Chinese and Japanese cuisine. I've eaten here twice and with both times I've had their Japanese dishes. As far as their Chinese food goes, I won't include that in my review. But if the quality of both cuisines are consistent, which I'm sure it is, then their Chinese dishes must be delicious because with the both times I've eaten here, I was very much happy with their Japanese dishes. I did see on the menu that they also have all-you-can-eat sushi. So, if you're in Sparks and craving AYCE sushi, CJ Palace is an option! For this most recent visit, my former college room mate and I decided to make the drive out to Sparks just to eat here. We glanced at the menu, but we both already knew what we wanted. Skipping past the Chinese section, you'll find "Ala Carte" and towards the middle of that same page, "Combo Boxes". All boxes are served with soup, salad, steamed rice and fruit. Back home in Hawaii, when we would eat at Japanese restaurants, I would Always order Teriyaki Salmon with Shrimp Tempura. And look at that, CJ Palace also has that under Box 3 and 4. I chose Box 3 for the California Roll as opposed to the sashimi. My friend decided with his usual, Box 7, the Steak Teriyaki, Tempura, and California Roll. For our soups, I ordered egg flower soup while my friend ordered miso soup. Naturally the soup arrived first and it was delicious. I know egg flower soup falls under the Chinese category, but for me, if given the choice, I'll always get it. I just love egg flower soup! Our food arrived shortly and was beautifully presented. The Teriyaki glaze was so delicious. The salmon was cooked perfectly as the steak was very tender. Everything in the combo box just seems to go well with each other. We both cleaned out our plates and left no room for dessert. With our bellies full, we left the restaurant happy. I don't know about my friend, but I was for bed. CJ Palace's Japanese dishes reminded me of home. Reno doesn't have a lot of Japanese restaurants to begin with (not including AYCE sushi) and for this place to serve quality Japanese food, well it makes me quite happy. I'll also need to try their Chinese and AYCE sushi someday. read more

Our go-to sushi near our house is Tha Joint, but tonight we went there and the wait was so long, so since this is 2 minutes from Tha Joint we thought we would give it a try! There was no wait and we were able to get seated at the bar right away. We all order a Sapporo beer on draft, it was delicious! As for the all you can eat sushi... there are limited appetizers to choose from, either miso soup or salad. The fish was really good and fresh, we preferred the nigiri at this place because the rolls had way too much sauce on them. Some popular rolls like the "spider" are not included in the all you can eat price. As for dessert, you have a choice of about 4 different flavors of ice cream, but no mochi. Overall, it wasn't bad but there are other sushi places that you get more bang for your buck! I would like to go back to try the Chinese food. read more

This place has been one of my staples since moving here. But, I have noticed a decline. Case in point last Friday. I went on a dinner date there, and we decided to do the Japanese side. I got the chicken teriyaki Bento, and it was not good. The chicken teriyaki sauce itself is just not strong enough. It's like watered down non-impressive. It basically makes the pile of chicken on your plate seem exactly that. And then we get to the tempura, they nuclearized my tempura. Plus it was just saturated in grease. Left little pools of grease when I picked up the piece of vegetable. Now we ordered calamari, and that batter was light and crispy and wonderful, except for there was literally no taste in the calamari. Not even salt. It was the most bland thing I have ever put in my mouth. Literally no flavor. The wife's salmon was tasty, she loved it. I think it's time for this restaurant to rethink things a little. Try to get your Bento a little more authentic. And when you realize you screwed somebody's dinner up, don't bring it to them and ask them how it is. I looked at my tempura and knew it was nuked. Quality control. The reason I am writing this review is because I dropped $70 on that dinner, and if I'm dropping $70 on a dinner, you guys gotta get it right, and don't expect me to be sending my food back to the kitchen, because that is not gonna happen. My favorite place! I ordered the box #1 (I get this every time) it is teriyaki chicken, rice, salad, California roll, miso soup and tempura vegetables. It's so much food and at such a decent price! After not being able to go out and eat AYCE sushi, this place really hit the spot. Also the service was on point and very speedy. Always making sure everything was good, and also had answers to all of our questions. Food was very good also. I'll be honest, I can't say this is my favorite sushi place in the Reno/Sparks area, but I will gladly come back and eat here again. My favorite rolls were the tiger and dragon. We have always loved the sushi here but lately it's not been the same. We always order the Rock and Roll sushi roll so we have noticed ingredients are missing or lacking. There is little to no soft shell crab, avocado and unagi in this roll. There is more rice than anything else. We have given them 3 more chances, and it's still lacking the ingredients we loved. I am definitely not well versed in Chinese food, and my initial visit was to have lunch with family. We heard good things about the sushi, but decided on the entrée menu. We ordered our food that came with a choice of soup. When the food came, I was slightly disappointed in the quality and flavor. The generals chicken I was served was overly sweet, by what I mean is that, it tasted as if someone used a full two cups of sugar and poured it over the chicken. The garnishing was also submerged in the sauce and it was just an obstacle to eat... The same went for the my other party members as their food was evenly submerged with sauce that came with their meals as well. When it comes to Chinese food, my husband and I are both pretty picky. It's taken us a while to find "our place" here in the Reno-Sparks area. But, found it we have! CJ Palace is definitely my favorite Chinese here. I've been a handful of times now and definitely owe them a review. The service is absolutely fantastic. They're always friendly, fast, and attentive. The food is delicious. I haven't had a dish I didn't love, and I've tried different things every time I've been. My husband really likes their egg drop soup and he's super weirdly particular about his egg drop soup. I love that they serve hot mustard with appetizers, without my having to ask for it. I also appreciate that they offer salad instead of soup because their salad is really nice (the dressing is to die for and I love the crispy rice noodles!). The hardest part every time is choosing what to get because you know every dish is delicious. Tonight we had the crispy prawn dish and it was soooo good. I also adore their spicy eggplant. CJ is definitely our top choice for Chinese, but I've never tried their sushi. It looks good though, and the menu is extensive! It's maybe a little pricey but I'd rather pay more for excellent quality food and great service than settle for subpar cheap Chinese food. read more

I was craving traditional Chinese takeout-- sweet & sour chicken and some good chow mein. CJ's did not disappoint! Both dishes came with a generous amount of food for the price and were had an appropriate balance of the main ingredient to the veggies in the dish. This place used to be my go to Chinese spot in Reno for years. It seems that over the course of a few months they have been taken over by new ownership/management. I knew the old owners and haven't seen them last couple times. Last time my order was incorrect. I ordered vegetarian hot and sour soup, and I didn't realize until I got home. I called and they told me they'd replace it on my next visit. Unfortunately this time around they told me they were too busy to make it vegetarian. Fine, we ordered spring rolls instead (side note: on their menu it says the ingredients on the spring rolls are all veggies, but there is chicken in them). When we got our spring roll order luckily after taking a bite we found out before my mom did since she is strictly vegetarian. After asking about it, the waiter responded with "there maybe some pieces of chicken in it." They quickly replaced the spring rolls with another order that was veggie. Restaurants need to be strict on what they put on their menus and stick to it. For our main order we got chicken chow mein one of my favorites and luckily it was tasty and delicious as usual. We got the spicy eggplant for mom which even I liked as its tasty and you can't even tell it's eggplant. We also got fried rice which is always good. We tried the Mongolian chicken a couple times back and loved it so we ordered it and found our chicken undercooked a bit. We let management know and didn't eat it, I believe it was comped. Overall it seems service has degraded lately and possibly quality of food. I'm hoping it's a transitional phase and things will get back to normal. It seems management definitely wants it to be as they have been proactive with me. This place has sushi as well which friends have had and used to love. Again unsure if that has changed will have to ask or give it a shot next go around. Ample seating for large groups or just couples. Food was excellent, ambiance was ok, I've been eating here off and on for far over a decade. A bit pricey for the food, but still good! Waitress was ok, she seemed irritated that it got busy. Being in the industry I would assume making money is a good thing. Still left her 20% as I always do, I would have left much more if I wasn't given the impression her having to work was an inconvenience lol. How have I not rated this place yet?!? I have been to CJ Palace at least a dozen times and have never been disappointed. Their food is delicious and their service is always friendly and efficient. My go-to when I'm not feeling good is the Wor Wonton soup. It is ah-mazing! The broth is incredible and it's full of fresh vegetables, wontons, and shrimp. I swear it's magic and I always feel better after having it. I do wish CJ Palace participated in some of the food delivery apps, but that's because I'm lazy and don't always want to drive. This place is well worth the trip and trust me, get the Wor Wonton soup. It'll cure what ails ya! read more

Went here for Valentine's dinner and the place was busy. We only waited about 25 minutes until they called us to say our table was ready. Despite the place being super busy, the food was on point and the service was great. We got the honey walnut prawns as an appetizer and I could eat these every day of my life and not get tired of them. Then we got Mongolian beef which was super delish and full of flavor and the combo chow mein which was equally as tasty. Will definitely be coming back! read more

I've always had good food here whether it's Chinese, Japanese Bento or Sushi. The sizzling rice soup is perfect for a cold day. Excellent walnut shrimp, good combo chowmein, good combo fried rice, delicious sushi options. They are on the pricey side but the portions are big enough for leftovers. read more

Follow up to my last review. They seem to be better with the social distancing between customers and not seating folks too close. The food is good and consistent. My hubby enjoys their All You Can Eat Sushi ( a little too often :) and I like that they will accommodate special requests like extra teriyaki sauce, spice levels and that their service is consistent. Even when I've had an off experience or concern especially in these trying COVID times, they do all they can to make it right. Used to like this place. Went in and was left disappointed. We ordered 3 crystal shrimp and 3 king kong rolls. I was eating one of the rolls and had to dig part of a shrimp tail out of my mouth. The tempura was undercooked and had more of a doughy texture. We also ordered crab rangoons and there really wasnt a trace of crab in them. Just cream cheese. I noticed it wasnt as busy as it used to be. This could be why. Probably will look for a new sushi place to try. read more
