Just never good! I've eaten here so many times! Dumb me! Cool waitress good service just poor quality food.

Was very disappointed in my experience last week at Clayton's. My husband is from Coronado, so Clayton's has been a stop on our visits back home. Last week, we stopped in for breakfast. We stood outside for a good 10ish minutes with no one in sight to help & all the workers very busy. Someone did come and ask if we had been helped, and we said we hadn't. We asked to sit outside, and was told yes and to pick a table and he will be right out. We picked one, that had a few dishes on it (which was not a problem, and we moved them to the side) and was told that table wasn't "ready" and sat us at another. Not even two minutes later, someone sat another couple there. The waiter appeared to us that he thought we were an inconvenience. Now to the food - a disappointment. I ordered a cold brew with cream & I couldn't cover the bitter taste as hard as I tried. I added sugar & cream and even some maple syrup and nothing covered the bitterness. I ordered the chicken fried steak & eggs and it was cold & rubbery that I couldn't finish it/ the sourdough toast was the best part. My husband ordered the Denver omlette, which he said was just ok. Unlikely we will be back, which is a bummer. read more

Experience was Chilly From Arrival to Departure! Greeter/Hostess and a pure Jerk! Veggie omelet was cold after a long wait to get it. People arriving after us received their food before we did , then our food was cold Potties were greasy and ice cold. Almost as cold as the welcome we received from start to finish. A great classic neighborhood coffee shop. You can eat at the counter or in a vintage booth. I had the homemade corned beef hash with eggs (a la carte) and it was yummy. If you are going last minute as a single, it probably won't be hard to get a seat at the counter, but a group of 4 could be waiting a while, especially at popular times. read more

Clayton's is a fantastic example of the All-American diner. The food was great, and the service was exceptional. What really stands out on the menu, though, is the coffee. It's all you can drink like any diner, but the difference is that it's actually excellent coffee. Also, our waitress Jexie was awesome--quick server, knew the menu super well, and had a great sense of humor. She even dealt with my dad's messiness--this man turned an over easy egg into a yoke yeeting projectile weapon! I definitely recommend! read more

The food was really good. I got a breakfast sandwich with hash brown. My bf got scrambled eggs, bacon and a Belgian waffle . The Mexican mocha was really good and so was the hot chocolate. Our waitress was super nice and so was the rest of the staff. My issue was the restaurant itself. It was extremely crowded. There isn't enough room for 2 people to walk down an aisle with out somebody having to go back the other way or into the booth. The staff kept bumping into each other while we were having our breakfast. Also there were relentless flies flying around that kept bothering us. read more

Clayton's is my favorite restaurant in town. It's so cute, everyone's so nice, and the food is delicious. It's perfect if you're looking for a fun diner experience. I usually go for an omelette (the Nado is amazing), but the Toad in the Road with a side of hash browns is also really good. Oh and the shakes and apple pie - legendary. Excellent breakfast restaurant! I had the Açaí bowl with natural peanut butter. Best I have ever found. The granola, peanut butter and fresh fruit were fantastic, but the açaí was perfect. No idea it could taste so good. I'm coming back and in spite of the other amazing menu features I am having the exact same thing. read more

Crowded, but the the wait was less than 20 minutes. My husband and I sat inside at the bar and it was a cute vibe. Enjoyed watching staff having fun at work singing along with jukebox and making milkshakes! I ordered biscuits and gravy with breakfast potato's. It was really good and fast! Husband went with the special of the day and it was giant breakfast burrito and vanilla latte. He said it was ok (hard to compete with all the great burritos here in Southern California), but really enjoyed the latte. I didn't get a milkshake, but they look amazing and everyone that I saw get one seemed to really enjoy them! Next time, I will definitely get one! read more

Everyone was wonderful, the hostess was overwhelmed yet so sweet and accommodating. The wait staff checked in on us and never stopped giving 110%! The portions were huge, the food was well worth it. The vintage music and atmosphere is what we came here for and it didn't disappoint in a time where 50s diners are disappearing. There were people lined out the door yet we were seated in less than 25 minutes. What a great find! read more

Ordering by phone and picking up at the dedicated side takeout window was really easy. The pancakes with bananas cooked inside were delicious. Two is plenty! The açaí bowl is good as exported by my nine year old. I had the French toast which was nothing special so would not get that again. Half order more than enough. If getting takeout with syrup you will need more than one container. They are tiny, so FYI if you like syrup. Their donuts and pastries look so good. The atmosphere is fun and inviting. The food is really good. One suggestion: Shop around for a better gluten free pancake mix. There are so many good ones out there. Clayton's gf mix tastes like bisquick. You can do so much better. Please, please try a new mix. Your coffee is great. Your staff is great. Rosemary, best waitress I've ever come across in my life. The absolute finesse that occurs when she refills the syrup container is gracious. Just so easy and smooth. The transfer of the food from the counter to you is absolutely mind blowing. If there was a food olympics that type of time and efficiency would be gold medal worthy. Stopped in for breakfast, wasn't super impressed. The staff was very nice, and granted it was only breakfast so maybe the lunch is better. I tend to think of a Belgian waffle as being slightly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, this was just kind of a sponge, though the flavor was good. Biscuits and gravy were subpar, the gravy was fine but the biscuits both my wife and I thought resembled bread that had been mushed, didn't have a biscuit texture at all, just a bit dense and bread like. Also, the music was really loud, this might not bother the younger crowd, but just be aware if you come here it's loud music, today it was 80s. So for some people that aren't that picky about breakfast food, probably is a fine place for them, but if you're a bit more into breakfast food and getting something beyond your average Denny's level food, this might not be the place for you, at least our experience today. read more

30 minute wait for a Sunday at 11:15. Not bad so we walked around. Wish they would update their system to a call when table is ready as we missed our table. They sat us next no problem. We ordered the French toast, chicken and waffles and I think the dish was called Bettys Bowl - it was a layer of hash browns, biscuit, cheese omelette with gravy on top. French Toast was bad. It was basically griddled bread with absolutely no custard/egg mixture. Super dry and very disappointing. The waffle was a waffle, nothing exciting about it. However the fried chicken on top is very very good. Very flavorful. The bowl was just OK. We had to ask for more gravy as everything was just dry and somewhat bland. They did give us a small dish of pico de gallo on top which was nice. Overall if you're a foodie try somewhere else as I would not recommend coming here for breakfast. It is very much diner food - do not expect great coffee. Be prepared to add a lot of sugar and milk to make it drinkable. read more

Today we were sat outside we ordered our smoothie drinks right away never showed up because according to the boy it was never put in the system. Second, The food arrives at our table except my plate, apparently the kitchen miss read the ticket and made a completely different dish so I was left having to wait for my correct order and still no drinks have arrived. We were not even offered water considering our smoothies were never made. So I ended up going INSIDE the diner and asked for three water. It was not a busy lunch there was no reason for such poor service and I would think after so many mistakes that they would at least offer us water or compensate us in someway for the long waits and mistakes ON THEIR BEHAVES. All of the staff is young people that have no idea how to serve or treat people with excellent customer service. Will not be returning. This place is amazing, a very cute little diner-esque atmosphere. They have bar seating and a few tables, good for parties of 2-4 people max just with the tight space. The service was lovely, AND they do have a to-go window next door to the restaurant if you wanted to order something quick for takeout. Drinks: No alcohol, but they serve juices, smoothies, milkshakes, espressos, and coffee options. Food: A good option for breakfast and lunch primarily. Everything here is incredible and made fresh, there is something here for everyone and every diet option. I ordered an cappuccino The acai bowls are delicious, fresh, and crisp. The eggs we ordered were cooked to perfection, the hash browns were AMAZING and some of my favorite, they need a little salt/pepper, ketchup, and hot sauce but the texture and consistency was there.
