The staff are so friendly and know the menu like the back of their hands. Each time I come to a Coco's I'm treated like family. The quality of boba is awesome. Drinks are quickly made to order and boba is always fresh. Interior is always neat and orderly no matter how many people have stepped through the doors. I got the pork belly rice meal and it was quite possibly the worst thing I have eaten ever. The picture on the menu had the pork belly dry so I thought it was like marinated pork belly. Dining at Coco's Cafe felt like I was in college again. The humble Taiwanese joint serves iconic street food items, such as beef noodle soup and popcorn chicken, and of course boba. Inside, the place is enveloped in warm colors and nostalgic decor, like college merchandise if I remember correctly lol. There is ample seating too. My friends and I shared scallion pancakes and the popcorn chicken and rice. It was enough to satiate the appetite of three girls, granted we weren't that hungry to begin with. I appreciated the plentiful stir fried green onions and peppers on top of the chicken. It paired wonderfully with the plain white rice. My friend and I came in on a Friday night to get dinner to go around 10 PM. We got a watermelon slushy, a peppercorn chicken with rice and ground pork with rice. The watermelon slushy had a nice flavor but was way too sweet especially with the lychee jelly that we also added to it. A great local eats right down the street from the AT&T convention center. My wife, a former UT grad was taking me to all the hot spots she went to when she was in college. It's tiny, but a great stop for if you're already walking around the drag (parking can be tricky and crosswalks are a bit of a walk away). Great staff and food! The fried chicken cutlet with rice is super big and juicy. Ground pork with rice was a little greasy but it was tasty and gave me a food coma afterwards. The peppercorn chicken and fried tofu also have really good texture and are well executed. Also, shaved ice is huge and I always share it with someone when I order it. Pro tip: you can get ice top ups if you run out and still have toppings leftover. Had to knock a star off because it definitely feels a bit pricey, but given its location, it's not too surprising. I stay away from the green onion pancakes because they're always kind of disappointing. Curry is average, if it's something you already know how to make, it's basically the same as from a box. This CoCo's cafe is in a nice spot that is fairly easy to find by either walking or driving. I am an Avocado Smoothie connoisseur so this may be a biased review. However, I am making my recommendation on CoCo's based on the Avocado Smoothie I had here. I ordered an Avocado Smoothie with half sugar and tapioca pearls as I normally do. The smoothie came out fairly quickly and it reminded me a bit of Boba Ninja in Berkeley. While it was not quite as good, I enjoyed it and finished the whole thing. They definitely used a real avocado as one would expect, and there is not too much of a sugary taste on top. The tapioca pearls needed work as I stirred much better ones during my tenure at Kung Fu Tea. More time stirring the pearls in the big metal pot pays dividends when you get to the bottom of the batch towards the end of the day.
