This cold stone location is part of my weekend ritual involving the aquarium of the Pacific. Of course, the ice cream is always excellent and the rewards program is very good. Unfortunately, this cold stone location is something of a victim of its own success. On the weekends, it can be quite crowded and take upwards to 20 minutes to get an ice cream. This isn't meant to be a complaint about this business, but it's important for the dads out there to be aware of the time commitment. For my kids, the time flew by and they were extremely pleased with their yummy ice cream's.And by the way, we initially started coming to cold stone just to get your parking validated when we're at the aquarium. We enjoy the ice cream so much, this is no longer a major factor for us. I came here Sunday October 21st after having watched a movie. My experience at the movie theater was very poor and I wanted something to cheer me up so I went to cold stone to get some ice cream. I was helped by Ana who provided excellent customer service and who was very enthusiastic and helpful when it came to helping me decide what flavor I wanted since it had been a while since I had gone to a cold stone. I did not feel rushed by her at all. I also appreciated how the store was decorated with Halloween items, it's small stuff like that that enhances the customers' experience. As soon as I entered I went into a diabetic coma from the sugar fumes. When I saw the selection of ice cream, the attitude part of a diabetic set in. What a lousy selection. I had to endure a skank attitude from the counter girl while battling a rapid hot flash onset. I've been buying ice cream for at least 40 years. Since when can't ya get it in a scoop? I wanted a scoop of chocolate and a scoop of sweet cream. "We don't sell them by the scoop," said the counter girl. Suddenly I'm hot flashing in a diabetic coma and obviously an ice cream DUMB ASS, all at once. "You can get it in "like it, love it and gotta have it"...she whined. Now, "I want don't want it," but it's too late. I order the small cup which set me back three bucks. Not normally a bitch to complain about 3 bucks but I got about a half a cup by measuring standards. Now they need another size: "Fuck It!" for when you're walking out the door. I ordered the regular, and I couldn't finish it because frankly, it wasn't good. The place was packed on the Sunday afternoon I visited, after spending a relatively unpleasant afternoon with Long Beach's brattiest children at the Aquarium. The tip song is insanely weird and creepy. There is not a single place to sit. We sat on stairs, which while technically a place to sit, wasn't what I had in mind. My fella had a milk shake, and the rest of my ice cream. He's not picky about frozen sugar-stuffs, but I am. Forget you, Cold Stone. For those of you that don't know me in real life, I'm quite the ice cream connoisseur. I like simple flavors made spectacularly.. simple enough, right? Coldstone is all pretty much the same, or at least it should be pretty uniform in appearance/selection. Except this one.. Most of the times that I've gone it's been just due to convenience of location (steps from the movies) and the staggaring lack of other ice cream joints within a 2 mile radius. Anyway, I completely agree about the lack of customer service but I'll spare everyone the rant. I can think of many other reason I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this establishment. The line is always too long and the employees are too slow.. they don't sing and let's face it, that's supposed to be their thing if you tip (IF you tip). They usually don't have a good selection of ice cream bases, and the last 2 times I went they were out of gummy bears *snif* Last I checked, Cold Stone was a franchise so someONE might want to take charge of their business and make the situations people are complaining about right. .. Okay, long beach is ghetto no matter how you look at it. Call it vintage, call it the downtown charm, it's too small to be popular, too plain to be trendy and too expensive (in the nicer areas) to attract the random visitor. It's hard for shops in the downtown area because of lack of parking and thus, lack of clientele. For many, basic survival means the lunch business and courthouse crowd and afterwork neighborhooders. (yes, hooders.) Alas, the neighborhood Cold Stone Creamery falls to this same profile. The service is passable on most days (although I've only been there at night so I'm not sure how the day shift is). They're usually a bunch of kids, accepts the coupons, makes the ice cream and both hoping you will and won't tip. The ice cream is typical, sweet, gourmet topping filled goodness. I really do wish their portions were bigger considering the price but the occasional online coupon does help. Their cake selection isn't huge so make sure to order ahead if you want something special. There's metered parking to the side of Shoreline Drive, near the Pike parking lot. Price? It takes credit cards...nuff said. Come because you want chain ice cream while you're at the Pike doing something...but you probably wouldn't drive here just for Coldstones. I would skip skip this location. Right now they have construction going on everywhere! We parked and started walking to the construction sites not being able to get to Cold Stone. Yes it was my first time here and I couldn't quite exactly located. I asked the parking attendance if they knew where it was and they seemed confused as hell. 8 minutes into it I decided I was over it and started walking back to the car, just to find out how to pay $1.50 for the parking! Super irritated, I went to go put it towards ice cream since they validate for 90 minutes. The location itself is covered with boards and construction material. I found the ice cream to be melted, as you can see from the pictures. I'm not sure if the freezer wasn't cold enough or what. They ha a $5 deal for cupcakes, ice cream and ice cream sandwiches but the selection was extremely limited, they were out of a lot. $12 later and a mission to get back to the car. Over it! Love cold stone, don't like this location. I am not cheap, but neither are they ... I came A couple of times to get the Apple Pie creation. They are supposed to put enough caramel in it so you can taste it. She literally put a speck when the girl was mixing it, I asked for a little more... She said she would charge me like $2.00 extra...!!! Just don't waist ur time and go to this location, they skimp like your not already being over charged for ice cream. Cold Stone ice cream always seemed like such a guilty pleasure that I should not ever ever EVER indulge in. It looked so rich, decadent and then to add all those sugary sweet items to be mixed in was just too much. Well finally I had a day at the office that was worthy of an ice cream treat. I needed a treat. No, I deserved a treat. I would have loved to gone to a RiteAid and had a regular ice cream cone but there isn't a location close to my office. Then I remembered there was a Coldstone creamery tucked away in the shops at the Pike. I walked in on a very quiet uneventful weekday afternoon. The place was a ghost town. The one lone teenage girl working the counter almost seemed startled to see a customer walk in. I ordered a Birthday Cake remix: brownies, sprinkles, chcolate syrup mixed together with cake batter ice cream. On the wall near the register there is a chalkboard that advertises special deal for every day of the week. I got a free waffle cup with my ice cream on this particular day. The ice crem was pretty good, I thought it was too soft though and almost ran off the side of my waffle as I was left.....actually it oozes slowly like lava would. By 3pm I was in a sugar-induced coma and my co-workers had to revive me. I want to try it again. read more

This is literally steps from my place and it is so hard to resist! I usually like Sweet Cream with Strawberries or something with Cake Batter, but just recently I tasted the Banana and O. M. G. I am in love! Banana, with Banana smashed in with caramel sauce and gram cracker crust, that there is some good ish!!! What an awful experience. My 12 yr old son and I went in today for an afternoon treat after doing some Christmas returns ( which by the way were effortless). As we stood in line to place our order and talked about the flavors we would have, a 20ish girl.comes over and says what are you having. My son answered with his ice cream choice and the girl says with attitude is there any more or just one. My son answered by saying my mom is going to order. She literally roles her eyes at him and says is this it. He says to her again my mom is going to order. I then say yo her can you finish with his order please then i will give you my order. I was taken aback by how she just dismissed him and continued to be rude. At this time another server came over and asked to take my order at which point the girl yells over to him, im taking that order. The young man says sorry but she has to finish your order. I expressed to him I would rather not deal with her bad attitude and energy. Against my judgement I allowed her to take my order. Mistake. She skimped on the amount of ice cream she gave me and when she was done she came to.the register placed a plastic spoon on top of my ice cream and placed the bowl on top of the napkin holder. She never said here is your ice cream. Thank u. Come again. Nothing. I then say I will never come here again. At this point the young man hands me a a business card and says this is the number to the manager. I declined the number because I know complaining with them will go no where. Amazing service. Came here the 4th of July and despite the chaos of everyone coming into the store and shouting orders the staff did so great in giving me and my family a fulfilling experience. I asked a lot of questions in flavors and add ons but the guy who helped us explained everything thoroughly. Essentially the service shined and the ice cream was good too. I got service with a smile and a great recommendation for ice cream! Even though it was a really busy Sunday night. However when I received my ice cream there was hardly anything in my cup. I ordered the "oooie gooie" it hardly had anything in their largest cup! Usually when you go to any other cold stone they fill up your cup. That is not the case here. They maybe filled up 1/3 of my cup and filled the other 2/3 with whip cream. For the price of the Ice cream I really expected more I would never come back here nor would I recommend this place to friends or family. read more

The Pike is a beautiful spot to walk around, day or night. Perhaps a good spot to go to if you're already at the Pike. I eat like a baby and get stuff all over the place. *haha* There needs to be a restroom. Or at least a sink. Just sayin'. I think there's a restroom by the ferris wheel, or you could probably sneak into one of the restaurants. read more

No wonder this place has bad ratings lol I went at night right before they close (9:50). I understand not-so-fast service because they started cleaning up. I even felt kinda bad when people came in last minutes (3 families after us). But there were enough employees. There were 8 customers and 7 employees. A girl was looking at the ice cream, playing with it, not even caring what's going on in the store. Then we asked how long do they open til, and they said 11:30 if there are a lot of guests. If there are guests, don't focus on cleaning up!!! Only three employees were trying hard to make ice cream and the other was cleaning up, playing with ice cream, just standing looking at customers lol. We waited so long time for a milkshake for my friend, I finished my ice cream lol. The milkshake was sitting in the blender too long until my friend notify them, so it became sweet milk... he completely lost his appetite and we got a refund... Ambiance: This cold stone location is clean, well lit and the atmosphere from an employee perspective is VERY positive and VERY friendly. I have read previous reviews from last year and all I can say is they must have replaced the entire staff. Operations: The manager(female) is excellent at customer service and definitely motivates her staff because you can see high energy, smiling faces and great customer service when she's there and when she is not there. She has really turned this location around in terms of operations(I.e. customer service, product quality and cleanliness). I will agree with previous posts that the quality of Cold Stone's Ice Cream is not the highest but if you are a Cold Stone fan you will definitely love the experience you receive at this location. There are times when the wait is long but their business patterns fluctuate with movies ending and such, so it's not something they can always predict. Be patient, they are worth it. read more
