Worst experience the last 2 times. Thought I'd give them a second chance but sadly I won't be returning. They were really good before (been going for 15 years) then went down hill on food but now both food and service was terrible. Being a business owner myself it's important to train your team! My 92 year old mom ordered the chili bean omelet. The server made sure to correct her that it was a chili omelet. It came and had beans so not sure why such a big deal being made. I ordered pork chop. Used to have 2 now just 1 and super thin and over cooked. Ordered my eggs over medium got it over easy. Ordered a pancake was ok. Where we sat down we can see the kitchen so I motioned for the server to come to the table. She said "what do you want?" From the kitchen. I motioned again since I didn't want to scream. She moved half way closer so I told her we need syrup for the pancakes. She apologized for not bringing it. I asked if they had oatmilk for my coffee. She answered like of course what a dumb question but then she realized I was saying oat milk not oatmeal and she answered again like what a stupid question " no we don't have any". It's nice that some things remain the same...food is good, service is friendly and prices are average. There is a neighborhood vibe here and that's always a good thing. Colonial Kitchen will forever be the place I remember where I obtained the elusive Breakfast Club Yelp badge. Big thanks to Nadine C. and some new and old Yelp friends for the assist! We took up the majority of the space in their Elvis room with our long table. Service was excellent as they quickly took our drink and food orders and got all of our food almost simultaneously to the table (except for mine, lol). I ordered the Belgian waffle ($8.95) with upgrade of two sunny side up eggs and 2 sausages (for an additional $3.95) and a cup of refillable coffee ($2.95). Yum yum! It was a filling meal and I still had two pieces of waffle to take home. They have their own private parking lot, but spaces are a little tight. You can also do street parking off Huntington. While we were confined to the Elvis room for brunch, I did wander a bit afterwards to see the part of the place that was used to shoot a scene in Mad Men. Look for the framed pictures on the wall to compare the reel scene and the real scene. =) read more

I have not been here since more than 10 years and i remembered that last time we came we went out satisfied of so much food. Today we ordered the Titan breakfast and that came with a lot. I also order a side of chicken steak fried and a veggie omelette. Over all a good experience and they sat us inside the Elvis room. The waiters were attentive and i got to meet the owner. The lady was nice and so happens that she is Asian from Spain so we both spoke spanish a bid and talked about how being trilingual was very advantageous in California a Spanish speaking dominant state. read more

We sat at the counter, we kept seeing the waitress throw things in the microwave, no idea why....I just hope they are not throwing customer's scraps into a bin and reusing it later! She comes straight out from the kitchen to the microwave! The food was meh. We came here for breakfast. it's your typical breakfast, the corned beef hash was not anything to get excited about, it tasted like the canned stuff to me, eggs are eggs really can screw that up or make it any more fabulous. This used to be one of my go-to easy breakfast spots. With new owners, I had high hopes (outdoor seating is a welcome addition). Unfortunately, the jury is still out.. food is all cooked nicely - eggs done right, bacon and hash browns are crispy, still freshly squeezed orange juice. And service is still quite good. I have been coming to this place for years since we moved to Alhambra about 6 years ago, but after what happened today I will never go back there again nor refer any of my friends and family. I made a pick up order this morning and asked for an omelette with onions and mushrooms only, went to the restaurant to pick up my order and after I got home I found out that the restaurant completely messed up my order. The omelette I received was with alfalfa sprouts, American cheese and mushrooms, it's ok to mess up the order.. people make mistakes all the time but what happened after I call them was unacceptable in any type of business. I called in and the guy who picked up says he is the "manager" answered and said that I ordered a mushroom omelette which comes with alfalfa sprouts and cheese and I said no, I asked for an omelette with mushrooms and onions ONLY and he said well you should know mushroom omelette comes with cheese and alfalfa sprouts and said we are very busy today and just hang up on me. I called back in and asked if he just hang up on me and he said we are very busy and hang up again, I was in shocked I called for the third time and he shouted and said we are very busy I can't help you, stop calling here! I don't care what business you run, basic rule of customer service you never hang up on a customer no matter if they are wrong or right..that is beyond very poor service. I decided to go down to the restaurant a couple of hours later to see if I can speak to the real manager which are an old nice Asian couple and the guy I spoke to on the phone sounded very young.. I came to the restaurant, the older lady which I know is the owner, tried to ask me what happened and I wanted to speak to the guy who shouted at me on the phone and there he was, very young arrogant guy. I understand in the restaurant business sometimes when it's busy things can get a little emotional and I really get it..as someone who used to work for a very busy restaurant in West Hollywood for 10 years I dealt with really tough customers but never once gave attitude or talked back to them out of respect to the business. We went outside and he had the worst attitude screaming at me saying if I go there for years I should know my order and it's busy today and he was literally about to fight me and not even once offered to apologize and saying sorry..all this time the older lady standing there and trying to apologize and saying they are busy but the guy's behavior was unacceptable and after he walked back in saying *uck you, wow really? I asked him if he is the son of the owners which obviously he is and he said it's a family business, I was thinking to myself I know that..you can admit you're their son. The lady talked to me outside and tried to apologize and I did tell her I will never come back there again and if the " manager " that talked to me doesn't like to work there maybe he should do something else, busy or not you never hang up on customers and you never tell your clients they are wrong which in this case I wasn't really but anyway.. if he was talking like that to someone else, who knows maybe they weren't as reasonable as myself and would actually fight him. This place used to be a nice place don't get me wrong, but if this guy is the manager this place won't survive and everyone will run away from there because of his poor attitude and poor customer service. The bottom line is, this place isn't what it used to be and this guy " supposingly" running this place is a young hot head kid that thinks it's ok to scream and disrespect customers that come to this place. read more

Don't order fish & chips. The menu says hand battered cod. It's neither. Five thin machine made fish triangles arrived atop some really cheap awful tasting fries. The tartar sauce could be poured out of sauce cup because it was so thin. I was their food supplier for years and know they use to buy Icelandic cod and hand cut the fillets. Absolute disappointment. You know it's going to be bad from the start when you've made a reservation a week out and your party arrives just to be told "what reservation" and "who did you talk to"... No apology or let's see what we can do. Sadly, this reservation was made for the one day out of the year - Father's Day.. where we could've gone anywhere, and apparently, we should've. Clearly there's a large gap between customer service and the simple way reservations are taken by staff/management. Personally I never been to the Colonial Kitchen in all the years living in L.A., and after today's disappointment, you can bet I'll never give them an opportunity to disappoint again. So either the table was given away purposely, or whomever took our reservation, didn't write it down. Advice to anyone planning a reservation in the future, especially for Father's Day, don't bother. Just show up and wait. In our case, we took our business and money to another restaurant up the street that actually took our reservation. Old school atmosphere! Colonial Kitchen has been here since 1933. Colonial decor, plates,showcases full of old plates, figurines, etc., colonial lighting and AND a room dedicated to a man who epitomized the American Dream and is an American icon...ELVIS. Service was fantastic! Thank you Rosa! The menu is huge! We dined on breakfast, but they serve lunch and dinner too. A very clean restaurant. The food was very good and generous. We all enjoyed our meal, the atmosphere and especially Rosa! Thank you to the owner/family member who was more than happy to take multiple pictures for the documentation of our visit. I love this place. The atmosphere is a bit dated, but my mother and I have turned it into a nearly weekly spot to eat at because the food and service more than make up for the appearance. Whether you're ordering breakfast or something else, the menu items taste homemade. Portions are always generous without being monstrous. I quite like the breakfast burrito with bacon, pancakes, waffle with strawberry topping, and Cajun omelette. My husband and I stumbled into this beautiful and hidden gem on our way to church last weekend. We wanted to try something Chinese and went in Yelp! Tara!! Here we are. It's a family business and the owner greeted us very friendly at the door. We got to sit at the booth area ( which was very nice). My husband ordered omelette with fruit cup and I had a scrambled egg with bacons and toast. It didn't take too long until we got our food. The bacon I had was very crispy and yummy! The scrambled egg was cooked the way I was expected. I tried couple fruits from my husband's fruit cup. I have to say that they really give you fresh fruit here. Sometimes I go to a restaurant and ordered fruit cup along with my main dish, I get not fresher one often. So that was a catch to me. I would recommend my friends to come here for meals. read more

This was my first time attending this place with my 11/2 year old daughter and my mom and grandmother. Our waitress was completely rude and was not attentive. She was Hispanic and her English wasn't very good. She was rude to my mother because my mom wasn't understanding the menu. My mom asked what the sides were because she couldn't find them in the menu and the waitress replied "the ones on the menu". She then forgot my coffee. The food was so basic, I could've just cooked us breakfast at home. My 1 1/2 year old daughter then finished eating and I took her out of the high chair and I started to open my present my mom brought me with my daughter standing beside me on the booth excited and playfully singing obviously being a little loud because she's a toddler and is excited about the present. This old lady sitting behind us the YELLED at my daughter who doesn't even talk "QUIET" Then as we leave she stares at me and my mom and gives us dirty looks. Needless to say I will never be returning here and I was not happy or satisfied at all. I will go out of my way to tell people how horrible this place is. read more

While visiting Pasadena we stopped at this cute little place. Nice cars in the parking lot and local work trucks...must be a local hangout for sure! We walked and were seated right away. The only waitress in this place was jumping. She got our Coffee and placed our order right away. The pancakes were hot and fluffy, the eggs done just the way I like as well as the bacon....all in all not the best meal I have had, but good enough. I always enjoy coming here for breakfast mostly. This place is real close to a home cooked meal. The breakfast here is amazing and the prices are so good for the quality. Lots of choices on the menu to score from. The service here is amazing and the atmosphere is very comfy almost as if eating at grandmas house. The orange is freshly squeezed and the coffee keeps coming and coming. I have been coming here for many years and Rosa and Armando are truly number one when it comes to customer service and hospitality. I just had a pleasure to neat Jose the other waiter and he was terrific as well. I recommend anyone to come try this place at least once u won't be disappointed. Came here because I heard the food was delicious plus it was in a scene in Mad Men! When I came in it was hardly busy since only half of the resultant was full. As for service, the hostess who was seating us had a very sour attitude and was rude. As for our waiter, he was nice but barely came over to even check up on us to see if we needed anything else. It took over 20 minutes to get a refill! As for the food, it was rather decent than good. I had their Pigs in the Blanket and it was alright. I also got a biscuit on the side which was amazing! I wish I could give it a better rating but the service I had wasn't the best which really took away the experience. It was good overall, but their staff could use more training. read more

Country fried steak with o brien potatoes & Mushroom omelette. the country fried steak was bombdotcom... super flavorful but heavy! and the o brien potatoes were a nice twist on the regular hashbrowns. the mushroom omelette was kind of the opposite though. it was light and tasted extremely healthy. lol... anything with alfalfa sprouts make it an healthy meal in my book. put alfalfa sprouts on top of animal fries, and that will make it healthy to me. we also got an orange juice for 4 bucks?? i don't know why juice is always so expensive at diners or restaurants in general? isn't it as simple as pouring juice from the carton you bought from the store? lol, cuz i for sure can't taste the difference between fresh squeeze and carton juice. :( apparently everyone wants to get served by rosa? we didn't have the pleasure, but while we were sitting down, we heard plenty of groups ask for her. like i mention earlier, this place has an elvis room... so if you really like elvis, come check this place out.
