I love that they opened another location in Rosemead near Valley and Walnut, but this place will always be my go to. I've never been to Vietnamese restaurant where their dining ware is so fancy and nice to look at. Though Vietnamese foods are my go-to, this is one of the places I like visiting. Parking isn't the best in the plaza with how limited spaces there is, street parking is basically the same as well. I have heard that the portions here are huuuuuge and they aren't wrong. I legit order just 1 main rice dish as well 1 side dish. We definitely could not finish it. I love that it comes with a complimentary soup and it doesn't look like one they had sitting on the stove for hours with a layer of film on it. Absolutely love the food here. I've tried a good number of items here and all of them have been a hit. My family loves Vietnamese food so this is our go-to spot when we crave it. This is also my mom's most favorite restaurant so every time we try to think of a place to eat as a family she ALWAYS suggests this place. I grew up eating at their second location that they unfortunately closed down but the quality and taste is just as good here. The Com Tam here is super delicious. I recommend ordering any of their com tam or bun thit nuong dishes as all of them are good. I usually order the grilled pork which is always tender, savory, and smoky. Their egg rolls are also super tasty and perfectly fried. I've also tried their Pho, Bun Bo Hue, Bun Rieu noodle soups all of which are all also pretty good. Overall, the food here is amazing and the portions are also pretty big making it a perfect place to eat with family. The service here is also quite quick. When I'm missing my mom's home cooking, I come here! Despite being a Com Tam (broken rice) place, they serve a bomb Bun Rieu (crab and pork noodle soup)! The portion size was huge although I wouldve appreciated more rieu compared to other ingredients. The plates are huge, but I think the food portion itself is pretty average. Highly recommend getting any combo that includes Dau Hu Ky (fried shrimp paste wrapped in bean curd). The broth they give on the side is full of veggies so super healthy and hearty. Service was great, honestly! Theres a ton of workers running around bc the place is packed. My Mom and I were debating if we should eat at Kim Ky for egg noodles or Com Tam Kieu for rice and noodles on a lovely Saturday afternoon in San Gabriel Valley (SGV). Well, the verdict was the latter and so glad it was. We've been here a few times. Their other location on Valley Blvd closed down last Sep 2023 so this is the only spot to get the BEST broken rice dish, AMAZING Bun Rieu, and SCRUMPTIOUS egg rolls in SGV. These were the items we got plus 2 red bean ice + water drinks. It was a fantastically yummy and delicious lunch indeed. Everything was flavorful, seasoning was on point, veggies were so fresh and lots of it, and portions were huge at very reasonable prices. Just check out the pics! Staff was great. Service was fast... before we knew it, all our dishes were on the table. Thank you for the quick speed of service! We noticed some of the staff from the closed location are working at this location which is good. Their rice plates are big! I ordered #30 and the shrimp paste was crispy and delicious! The porkchop had a lot of flavor and it wasn't too dry like other places! I'm not fan of the "quiche" part so I gave that to my husband. The service was fast and they brought our food not too long after ordering. Finally a place that serves bun mam around this area! Loved the bun mam~ the catfish was soft, the soup was very flavourful, and the toppings (squid, roast pork and eggplant) were amazing too. This place was originally in rosemead and had moved to the current location. My family was initially mixed on the previous location; however, after trying out the current one. They're more sold on the solid options it offers. Parking is in the front and the back, but I would advise to be the first round if you can as it the times Ive went there's always a line given how small the restaurant really is. Some food we ordered were the following 1. rice vermicelli with charbroiled shrimp, egg roll, bean curd skin and shrimp egg rolls (#56): This was solid, but I think the weakest part to be the charbroiled shrimp. It still had the black vein you seen on shrimp that don't have their backs cut open. Bean curd and the egg rolls, shrimp rolls are good 2. thin vermicelli patties with charbroiled pork, bean curd skin, & egg roll (#60): For the price you pay for, I'd say this is a steal! The food comes overflowing almost the plate on it. You have just about enough of the fish sauce they give you. Might need to order more sauce in case. It's not too filling in the sense that you feel like you made mistakes scarfing it down yourself, but solidly filled I'd say. Despite how hectic it is. The soup was flavorful with lots of meat and big shrimps. The noodles were chewy and went really well with the broth. We also order their #60 Thin Vermicelli Patties w/ Charbroiled Pork, Bean Curb Skin Co Egg Roll. I loved all the fresh veggies and the fact I can control how much thin vermicelli I want to wrap with the lettuce. I would definitely order this Bánh Hỏi over Bún. I went on a Sunday around 11:30 AM and there was already a waitlist with numerous parties outside. My party decided to order take out instead. We ask one of the staff to write down our order and then took it to the cashier. Our 3 orders was ready within 25 minutes (our name on the waitlist was also called around this time). Given how busy they were, I think take out was definitely the right decision. Overall, the food was delicious. We came with our family and ordered a lot of food. The service was great. They were able to help accommodate all the food that we ordered by making space for us. Everything was delicious. I wanted to highlight the Com Tam as it was pretty good. I got the one with grilled pork, shredded pork skin, and the pork steamed egg. We also ordered the riveye pho for 2, which came out kind of like a hot pot where you would add in the ingredients (pho noodles, variety of beef, etc) yourself into the pho broth. It was good! The wait didn't take too long and we were seated right in front of the ac. The staff were friendly and attentive and the menus were really modern. I had the #40 broken rice plate and the cheesey pate fries. The fries were fresh on a skillet and had good flavor. They gave plenty of pate and the cheese was nice and melty. My first impression is that this place is fantastic. If we lived closer, we would be here a LOT more often, but I think this place is now on our list of spots we need to go to when we're in the area. Some quick notes about the ambiance, the place itself is bright and cheery, it was busy when we were there and the service staff was friendly. I can see parking being a problem and probably wait times as well if you go during a rush, but it's a nice spot overall. As for the food, my general impression is that their flavor profiles are right up my alley, every item we had was at least above average, and the quantity you get for the prices was actually very impressive. Here's what we ordered: Banh Canh Dac Biet - I ordered this one because I was feeling soupy and had never had Banh Canh before and this was great. The noodles are thick like Japanese Udon, but have a slippery chew to them that makes me feel like there's a good amount of tapioca flour along with the rice. That texture really stood out for me and worked well with the broth, which was light but very flavorful and coated the noodles very well. With thick noodles, sometimes I worry about sauce/broth to noodle ratio, this combination worked very well. The flavors were beautiful and the dish just worked. Would definitely order again. Bun Rieu - A solid bun rieu, but it did not stand out as much as the banh canh for us. The flavors are on point, good tomato base, rich broth, and solid noodles, but not a standout dish for the location. We've had a better one in West Covina, but still good to order if this is what you're craving. Com Tam - We almost always order pork chop rice for the kids when we eat Vietnamese and this one did not disappoint. The first thing we noticed was that the portions are huge for the price. Our kids are big eaters and can finish their dishes at most places, we had leftovers here and not for lack of trying. Every item on the plate was also above average, and very well flavored. The egg loaf was very flavorful, the bean curd skin was excellent, and the shredded pork was good. I think we have one other place where we like the texture of the sides better, but as an overall rice dish, this place is probably our favorite. Honestly pretty solid review. This is an authentic Vietnamese joint so expect Vietnamese customer service (with love and respect from a fellow Vietnamese who lived in Vietnam for 12 years). I've been here twice and the first time I got bun thit nuong which was pretty good, the nuoc mam is perfectly mixed and not too salty. Their cha gio was hot and fresh. This time around, I came to try their com tam, their specialty. Their meat wasn't dry and there's many other dishes you can order that comes with less or more sides. Their cha comes with a healing salted egg yolk ball at the top which I never seen before and I love salted egg yolk so it was a nice surprise.
