After hearing how great this place is I finally decided to give it a try. I took some family from out of town figuring it would be nice to go somewhere I've never been so we could all be surprised. My first impression was that it was much bigger than it looked from outside. I liked the log cabin feel of the restaurant and the staff were friendly when we walked in. We were quickly seated in a booth by the restrooms in the back. This place reminded me of how Pappys use to be, clean! I liked the ambiance of the restaurant and all the vintage pictures and items. It made me feel like I was thrifting. After perusing the menu, I decided to try the California omelet with a pancake and country potatoes on the side. The omelet was good but I did not like the potatoes. I always order country potatoes over hash browns because I don't like when the hash browns aren't cooked in the middle. I like my potatoes cooked all the way through and when I ordered them I asked the server to make sure the bell peppers and onions were cooked well but I guess I also should have mentioned to cook the potatoes. In her defense the veggies were cooked to perfection. The pancakes were tasteless and I only took a few bites. Overall this place is a distance away from me so I won't go out of my way to go but if I'm in the area and I'm starving I guess I might try it again. read more

I've driven by this restaurant for about 13 years. I finally convince my husband to take me in there. Oh my goodness am I glad I did. I'm very picky about my eggs and my eggs were done perfectly! Very large portions you better be hungry when you go in there. SERVICE is an excellent and it was a very quaint and comfortable little café. I highly recommend it. read more

Knotty Pine Cafe is a must when visiting Bakersfield,CA. I loved the ambiance of house remade into a restaurant. You are transported to south when you come here. The prices for food are very reasonable and you get HUGE portions. If you like stick to your ribs comfort food, this is the restaurant for you. The service was top notch. They really treat you like family. This place is very busy, but the service is quick. Again, this is a destination restaurant stop. read more

Great food, great servers, great vibes! Parking isn't the greatest but don't let that deter you because the food is delish! My only complaint was my side of scrambled eggs (not pictured) that wasn't scrambled enough & tasted too oily. Fortunately, the chocolate chip pancakes made up for it. The other entrees we ordered were also delicious. The hollandaise sauce for the eggs Benedict were thick but flavorful and my brother killed the French toast. Overall, this might be our new breakfast place despite the far location. read more

Was very disappointed in my breakfast overall, ordered the Spanish omelette. Must of been a one-half egg omelette, never seen one so small, and maybe a teaspoon of salsa and ZERO CHEESE!!! It was small, I don't eat they much but walked away disappointed and hungry, but the small biscuit was good and coffee was tasty but not hot. So happy found Cope's Knotty Pine diner near the Bakersfield airport. Flew in from Denver and was hungry. Thank you Yelp for showing Copes Knotty Pine. Copes is back to 5 stars with their great comfort food. The chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken and ribeyes are made like they were on my first visit. Biscuits and gravy and hash-browns are cooked perfectly! I always loved the employees and servers, they are quality! The fluffy pancakes, the Eggs Benedict, Roast Beef and home made Reuben sandwiches have been perfect lately. The cobbler and french fries, so good! Their chili verde omelette is excellent! read more

A classic breakfast destination- The staff is on it! You'll never run out of water or coffee with this crew on staff. Our server was very professional, efficient, and had a great sense of humour. I ordered 2 biscuits and gravy for the table as an appetiser and our server was kind enough to split on 2 plates. The biscuits were fluffy and very tasty. My buddy ordered a cheese burger and fries, I know it was good because he pounded it in a few minutes and looked stuffed. My chicken fried steak was crispy on the outside and the meat was tender. The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars you ask? I had to salt just about everything on the plate. I'm not sure if that's a bad thing, but I had to add a lot of salt to the gravy, fries, eggs, and hash browns. Some people like it that way, but I think the cooks should add a little bit of salt to remove the bland. This place is a local treasure and I think you should checkout out if you like traditional American diners. read more

Omgoodness this place is a literally slice of heaven. The food was so good. It is so small on the outside, I passed right by it. Once I realized where I was going, I noticed that I missed it because it had the parking lot FULL of work trucks. Now.....we KNOW it is gonna have some good food if it is PACKED on a Wednesday morning. Surprisingly it didn't take long to get a table. The food arrived quickly and man oh man.....it was so good. Went to Knotty Pine this morning for breakfast and was excited to try it again after many years. The service was amazing. Our waitress was super sweet and very attentive, making sure to refill coffee promptly and checking that everything was OK. The coffee was great and they had a sugar dispenser rather than the sugar packets which is always something I appreciate. The food was just OK. The gravy was good, but I wasn't a fan of the ridiculously large sausage patty, and my pancake was so rubbery on one side that I couldn't even cut through it with my fork. I've never had that issue with a pancake in my life. Very off-putting. Doubt I'll return. read more

Always happy when I get to stop by for breakfast. Still my favorite place in Bakersfield for a good meal. The chicken fried steak is always delicious, the gravy is perfection. It makes two meals for me and then I bring home half for my son. The breakfast burrito is gigantic and easily can feed two people. Very cute little cafe. A great spot for breakfast or brunch! The food was great! It's so hard to find a cafe that actually makes country potatoes extra crispy. They cooked mine to perfection! A perfect crunch yet still soft on the inside! I was pleasantly surprised. The food is delicious and the service was just as great. We needed someplace for brunch after my aunt's graveside service. I contacted Knotty Pine a few days beforehand & they were very accommodating & friendly, offering to put aside some tables for our group of nine. The place is small & you almost miss it but was obviously busy. We were seated almost immediately. The place was hopping with booths, tables & a counter. The interior was rustic & clean. Their menu was extensive and modestly priced. We ordered a variety of breakfast & lunch items and everyone enjoyed their meals. The portions are generous. I'm always eager to try a restaurants biscuits & gravy; the sausage gravy was very tasty although the biscuit was a bit on the dry side. Our server was friendly and provided quick service. We would definitely return. read more

A group of friends and I were spending the weekend in Bakersfield and decided to meet up for breakfast at the Knotty Pine. Immediately upon arrival we loved the carved wooden bear and eagle on the roof--as well as the kind of "log cabin" decor inside. We told them we'd have 6 people but only 4 of us were already there, but they were able to seat us right away once they pushed two tables together. Two of our friends were running late, but our server happily put in their food order as soon as they were able to send it to us by text message! All the portions were huge. Really impressive. I ordered the ham steak, which was an old school-style slab of ham with the bone still in--and it took up my entire plate! On a separate plate I got eggs (scrambled with cheese) and breakfast potatoes and for my "toast" side, I got a pancake (which was crispy on top and soft and gooey in the middle and bottom, really good). Everybody loved their food and especially raved about the biscuits (which I myself didn't get to try). Our server rolled with the punches despite the restaurant being pretty busy on a Sunday morning, and she split our bill into 3 separate checks with no complaints. Homey, friendly, lots of character. What an excellent place to enjoy lunch or brunch. This place has really friendly staff, amazing service, and large portion. They have one of the best fried green beans i've had. I had the pastrami sandwich and I will never get another one anywhere else! Yes it's that good. Huge portion. You have to eat quite a bit of the meat before you can begin to pick up the sandwich. It's ginormous! I got animal fries. Which they serve differently every time. Hey I don't care, surprise me. Our waitress is great. She knows our order when we come in. It took about 10 minutes or so before anyone took our drink order due the loud server having too many tables to properly attend to with one being a fair sized party... A couple arrived after we did and the loud server took their order, delivered their food while mine was sitting on the kitchen counter, then she proceeded to have a chat with this couple as if they were the only customers in the diner... I know this because the couple were seated in the booth in front of and as I have stated before in this review, the server is loud... When she did bring my food, the potatoes were not only runny, they were cold... It took some time for her to get back to our table and when she finally did, I told her the potatoes were cold...Her response? ''Oh'' I get that it is a diner with a short order cook, but there is ZERO reason for cold mashed potatoes... The loud server did ask if I wanted my order remade, but I was aggravated and not willing to wait another 30 minutes or so for a remade order while the server resumed with personal chit chat with other customers instead of attending to the few tables she had, so I declined... There were two other servers (one with the really cool foreign accent and a tall one with a pony tail...) that had no tables and who were doing nothing...There was no reason either one of them could not have helped out by at least delivering the food to the customers... The prices are too high for crap service and cold food... I used to go to ORG on Calloway and not one single time in the upwards of 10+ times I ordered a Patty Melt could they get it right... I had many conversations with the manager/franchise owner regarding this as over half the time, the meat was undercooked and all of the time, they were either unable or unwilling to put together a simple meat, cheese and bread order... I stopped going to ORG because of this and every time I see an ORG, I am disgusted... None of this ongoing crap with ORG is worth it anymore... Overall, I'd give Carla's Cafe 4 out of 5 stars. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying a few more entrees.

Copes Knotty Pine offers a nostalgic diner experience I've experienced since my oilfield days in late 1999 with standout sweet tea that's consistently refreshing and perfectly balanced--not too sugary, not too bland. Their generous portions and wide-ranging menu make it easy to find something for everyone, whether you're craving comfort food or a hearty breakfast. Rosario and Vanessa truly elevate the experience with their warm personalities and attentive service. They were quick with a joke, always smiling, and make guests feel genuinely welcome. 3 out of 5 stars but only this visit. However, the food itself doesn't always live up to the charm. Flavor inconsistency across visits is a recurring issue--what's savory one day may be flat the next. The chicken strips, in particular, this time arrived under-seasoned and forgettable., i ordered the previous visit and they were fresh and amazing, hence the reorder this day. Presentation also leaves something to be desired, with plates that feel more rushed than crafted. It's a place where the heart is in the service, but the kitchen could use a bit more polish. Been here twice on the drive from Napa to Vegas. The wait staff is what you'd expect from a great all American breakfast spot. Each time my waitress was friendly and helpful. I couldn't decide between the steak & eggs and corned beef hash. She told me her favorite was the steak, so I went with it. It was definitely the right choice! I've been cooking for 10 years and my family is made up of chefs and I have to admit it was one of the best steaks I've ever eaten. A perfectly seasoned, juicy, medium rare NY strip with 2 eggs over easy. Eggs were perfect and the hash brown was good enough to be eaten by itself. They were crispy on the outside and creamy in the middle. Added their fresh brewed iced tea and I was in heaven. I easily would pay $20 for this but I'm pretty sure the bill was around $11. Being from NY and Napa, I thought it was some type of mistake, but I was wrong. Every time I sleep in Bakersfield I will be here for breakfast/brunch. Ive heard of this place from my friend Stacy and I decided to go and encouraged my husband to come along with me. We got there and it was small; then again I didnt really know what to expect. The waitress was very nice and it felt like I was at home in the cabin out somewhere. I decided to order the country fried steak and oh my! I was not dissappointed. The steak was on point and the gravy?!! HEAVEN! My husband was eating at my plate while he got a BLT sandwich (which was good as well but not as great as mine). I went hungry so I finished my giant steak and would not recomment if you go on a half full stomach. You need to go when you are starving basically. I would love to go back. I was introduced to knotty Pine Café by a long time Bakersfield resident, otherwise I seriously doubt I would have stumbled upon this place as it isn't in the areas I normally travel. The location seemed a little marginal, but there was a line , so that was a good sign. The greeter and waitresses were welcoming and friendly and we were quickly seated. The interior was all....knotty pine...hence the name. Or maybe it was the other way around. In any case the food portions were generous and delicious. this place is ok for calling itself a cafe.. there are otheres in town with much more variety but this place will hit the spot if you are looking for a basic cafe the staff is very friendly dont get me wrong.. its just they are lacking a few things that other cafes have the atmosphere is fresh and lively, you wont be bored here,, the coffee is alwasy hot and fresh, the waitress was alwasy willing to give us a nice big refill of latte the food came out rather quick.. maybe too cook... but it did taste ok :) great place for a quick bite and chat with freinds! read more

I ordered the Spanish Omelet. Everything was good until all of a sudden I am running into the restaurants bathroom to throw up the food I just ate. I had a major allergic reaction to their food. My mom asked if they cooked with peanut oil, the waitress said no. I was scared becasue I am 29 weeks pregnant and I was throwing up a lot. The waitress or the restaurant was not concerned at all for my well being or that of my unborn child. I will not be going back there again. Be aware if you have sever allergies, there will be cross contamination with your food. read more

I like the look of the restaurant - cute decor! It was a little bit of a wait (30-45 minutes). The food was alright. I wouldn't recommend the country fried steak - it was dry and a little gray. The potatoes were lukewarm and not seasoned. The eggs were cooked well. I like that this place is local, and the service was average. We waited a long time for our food and did not have a server who was actually checking on us while we waited. They didn't recommend anything when taking our orders. Come here if you have only have time to eat one meal that day. I asked the waitress to bring me her favorite, and that turned out to be the country fried steak and eggs. It required two full plates. In case that wasn't clear: It required two full plates. Eggs, potatoes, the left side of a cow, gravy, biscuit, and additional gravy. The food was tasty. I love this place. The owner Carla is amazing and always greats every one who comes through her restaurant. She works in the trenches with her staff and is a great example of what providing great customer service looks like. I ordered the hamburger steak patty( with salsa), eggs and biscuits and gravy. It was outstanding, the patty is almost one pound. The servers were pleasant and attentive. I would recommend coming out here. read more

This is one of those hole is the wall places you just have to experience. It's over in Oildale on Norris by the airport. A bit of a drive from my house but some friends invited me to breakfast there and the food was awesome. A little bit of a wait, even on a weekday, but it was worth it. My favorite place to get breakfast. I have been going here for years! The cute home style decorations and delicious food make a great ambiance. One of Bakersfields best spots! I highly recommend trying them out. There may be a small wait most weekend mornings but it is well worth it! read more

Went here for Mother's day breakfast, and even though there were alot of people there, we only had to wait five minutes for a table. Parking is a bit tricky so make sure you can get out of the spot you park in. The portions are big, so be prepared to take stuff home. read more

My baby had the chile verde skillet and he was SHOCKED the skillet wasn't even HOT. As you can cleary see in the pictures the cheese wasn't even melted ‍ and again the skillet was cool to the touch. Chile verde has good flavor but the ordering a skillet and it being cold threw the mind off lol. Omg the salsa that they offer just tasted like tomato water, no flavor and definitely no heat. No huevo rancheros and no open face sandwich was available the day we went. I'm sorry but Idk how people are giving this place such high reviews with the vapid food they are serving. Needless to say my hubby and I will not be returning. One of our teachers at school entered a drawing for a free catered lunch from Locale Farm to Table, and we were so lucky to win! The drawing was the owner Heather's way of giving back and showing her appreciation for teachers. She was especially touched by our teacher's story, which made the win feel even more meaningful. Many of us who work at the school already dine at Locale and absolutely love the food, so we knew we were in for a treat. Heather brought some of their most popular dishes, including a hot honey goat cheese spread with Pyrenees bread, roasted butternut squash and Brussels sprouts, a fresh garden salad, and a chocolate and strawberry pastry for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious! What really stood out, though, was how much thought Heather put into making sure everyone could enjoy the meal. She heard that we had some vegetarians among us and went above and beyond by preparing additional dishes without bacon so everyone had plenty to eat. That extra touch meant so much and really showed how genuinely caring and thoughtful she is. Having this incredible meal right before the first day of school was such a special treat. Teachers and school staff work incredibly hard, and feeling appreciated in such a generous way was truly wonderful.
