A fraternal brother of mine achieved a professional certification and I wanted to take him out for a celebratory dinner. I looked around at our choices of excellent restaurants serving either Mexican or Chinese food -- and saw that Corazon de Agave had good reviews which seemed believable. I booked a reservation. (Thank you for sending a text message confirmation. I hate going somewhere only to be told that they don't see a reservation for us.) Had a spot of bother trying to find the place and if it wasn't for calling them -- incidentally speaking with the individual who would be our server -- I might have driven another 10-15 minutes looking for it. I found it. (It's in the building directly behind the drug store.) No BIG sign for the restaurant, which is cool in itself. The restaurant is very cool. I like the layout and decor... lots of glass. Expertly clean. The glass walls of the restaurant were spotlessly clean. I look at the corners of the floor to see if I want to eat at a restaurant: I have dined worldwide, flying for an airline that routinely travels to 73 other countries and island nations, and an ex-Navy pilot told me how to avoid food-related illness: one of his clues was to look at the floor of the restaurant: if the corners of the floor are grungy, go somewhere else. (In 40+ years of flying professionally, I've never been sick once from a food-related illness.) We bypassed the finger food appetizers but did get some chips and salsa, which, incidentally, was delicious -- my fav was the hot version. I ordered an adult beverage, chose the chicken fajitas; my fraternal brother ordered the Enchilades Suizas. The fajitas were very good, though the tortillas served are tiny, not much larger than the palm of my hand (I suggest using those that are twice the size). The Enchilades looked -- and were reported as -- being excellent. Perhaps magnificent is more appropriate. I'm betting that nothing we were served came from a can or a jar. Yanno? Service was exceptional. Our server didn't hover over us (maybe appropriate for two professional pilots, huh?) but we were seated by the door to the kitchen and she checked on us each time that she passed. The profit margins of most restaurants are razor-thin, and they make the greatest profits from alcohol sales: booze is relatively cheap, and for a number of restaurants I've been to in Arizona, their liquor supply is extended as long as they have a funnel and a source of water. Yanno? So it's to a restaurant's profitability that servers are "encouraged" to sell, sell, sell adult beverages. I really appreciated our server: she asked if I wanted another adult beverage like the one I had -- or something different -- and I said "No." (I'm not much of a drinker to begin with, and when I'm out on the town for lunch or dinner, my strict limit is ONE: the professional penalty for a DUI is the possibility of losing of my pilot certificates and job. The moral penalty of having an accident is simply something I won't risk.) Having declined her offer, she didn't ask again. Thank you. I appreciate that. The food and service were superlative and exceptional. I'm really glad that the reviews were accurate, and that we chose Corazon de Agave. The final surprise? I thought that our check was going to be twice of what it was. Food this exceptional usually comes at a hefty price... but not here. Wow. To quote Arnold: I'll be back. I ordered the posole through Grubhub because it's hard to find in this area. I was skeptical but had high hopes. They had the soup packaged in 2 different small cardboard soup to-go containers and then wrapped with plastic wrap. Upon opening discovered that one of them was nearly entirely filled with a giant, fatty ham hock bone. The flavor wasn't great but we made it work by adding our own seasonings. Just super disappointed that they would put something completely inedible that is only in the pot for flavor into my tiny to go bowl. read more

Food was ok, not anything special, the sauses had some flavor, but the chicken was bland and tasted like it was from a can. We got our appetizer after our meals and I never got my ordered Paloma. Mistakes happen but this was not worth the price of the meal or the overall experience. read more

Visited on a Sunday early evening. The space is small but very cozy and chic. We were seated quickly but many tables were reserved for the dinner hour. It filled up quickly by 6pm so reservations may be helpful. We ordered enchiladas suizas with were delicious. The flautas were good too. The salsas and beans served with the chips are so good - wish they sold them! The churros were also good but the caramel that comes with it was too tough to use. Have to agree with the food review. But to add over 6% besides tax and then tip, it would make more sense to add the $3-5 to the cost of a meal. No other restaurant expects us to pay for the employees. Everyone we told said no way would they pay a service fee and they can certainly afford to but it's the principle. read more

This restaurant is supposedly ranked in the top 100 in the United States, but unfortunately our experience didn't come close to living up to the hype. We waited a long time just to be seated, and then an even longer time for our food to arrive. For the prices, we expected much better. The carne asada tacos had virtually no flavor and the meat was very chewy. Overall, it was extremely overpriced and very disappointing. I wouldn't return or recommend it based on this visit. My only complaint was the fried enchiladas could've used a sauce to make them easier to eat. However, the mole enchiladas I had were some of the best I've ever tasted. We have been back twice and were disappointed both times, especially given how good our first trip was. The chicken is so overcooked and there really isn't any seasoning, making an exterior sauce do all the lifting, which in my opinion is challenging if you start with unsalted, unseasoned, dry chicken breast. The next trip we tried the two shrimp dishes. It looked and tasted like preprocessed garlic was used (lots of bits but no real flavor) and the spicy shrimp was one dimensional. I'm leaving a star for our first trip and the molcajete, but I doubt we will return. read more

What a beautiful discovery, Corazon De Agave, a new jewel in the neighborhood. Went there today for lunch on a Monday and I must say, it exceeded all expectations! The atmosphere was comfortable with a modern vibe. More importantly we were greeted by a friendly and efficient wait staff that served us delicious chips, an awesome bean dip and two sauces, of which one was a smoky tomatillo salsa..a favorite! The three of us wanted to order different things to experience the uniquely created entrees on the menu..as they all sounded wonderful and delicious. Chile Rellenos, Enchiladas Suizas and Quesabirrias w/consome...wow! All three came just as described and so full of flavor. Generous portions too which made for leftovers to take home! We added a House Margarita at a great lunch price of $6.00 and a round of top shelf tequila to make for an incredible dining experience that was absolutely delicious and affordable! This is not your corner fast food taco shop but a higher end dining experience. We will definitely be coming back and want to get the word out about this hidden gem!!! read more

Food was HORRIBLE, dry and no flavor. Absolutely not good nor authentic Mexican food. Extremely disappointed. Took quest from out of town, we all agreed we would never go back. We couldn't believe it had good reviews. Server was very gracious but could not make up for what the food lacked. I have been all over Mexico and never have had food like this. We were a group of 8 on a Friday night. Place was not busy. Service was not very attentive and felt somewhat ignored. The music was unusually loud and it was very cold inside. Had to ask for both to be turned down. Taco plates were disappointing. No rice or beans come with. Carnitas arrived in soggy corn tortillas half filled with no cabbage, cheese etc... the plate garnish for most of our dishes were sliced cucumbers and oranges. A bit strange. As a whole the group felt that the meats were very dry and everything chips, guacamole rice needed salt. They have a seasonal menu with Pozole on it. I ordered that but they said they were out if it and it would be an hour. That was 6 o'clock. The price point is high for what you get. Not sure I'd go back. Wow.....Phoenix should be flooding to this restaurant! The food is fantastic! We got the delicious Enchiladas Suizas, and the amazing, elevated chips and salsa came with the smoothest, yummiest refried bean dip we've ever had. Happy hour all day Mon-Weds and 6-9 Thurs with huge $5 margaritas! Avery was our server and also bartender and she is attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and so very warm and friendly. They really focus on presentation as well as taste, and additionally, the space is gorgeous, every detail carefully curated, especially the lighting. Perfect background as well. The restaurant is clean and the tables are set with plates and glassware looking so welcoming. The food was amazing! We had guac, carne asada tacos, and enchiladas suizas. The location is a little inconspicuous but this place is going to blow up once the masses figure out how great it is. Decor is trendy and comfortable, staff is friendly, great ambience with live music some nights, delicious food and beautiful, balanced cocktails I like to visit a spot twice before I review and I was very impressed both times. Gloria was our server the 2nd time and she was very attentive and pleasant. The CEO Uriel came out to great us and see how our meal was. This spot is close to me so we'll definitely be back!
