I was having a tough morning -- long story short, I was carrying around luggage and feeling angry at a nearby car rental company. However, the employees were warm and made me feel welcome. I decided to go to Corner Bakery in DTLA on 8th street because I have enjoyed the food at two other locations. I went there during the lunch rush-hour. I was surprised to see only three other parties there. I ordered the Chicken Pomodori Panini. What a bad experience. Sandwich came out cold and has hardly any chicken in it. I posted the photo. We have a retirement party and place an order from this location weeks ahead. According to the coordinator we are the only party order for the day. We asked to have the food delivered at 11am. We waited until 12 noon food still not arriving. Called the store, was hold for 10 minutes and finally someone answered the call. She was unable to provide update, only saying "they were backed up from the kitchen today, and the deliver person left for a while" She mentioned that she will called the driver and check for the status, I asked for a call back for update and was told that they don't do call backs, and claimed that she is very busy and suggested me to call back in an hour or two if anything happened. I though we were the ONLY party order for the day, and they opened at 6am, yet couldn't get things out on time? On top of that the coordinator advised us to call back in an hour after they delivery is no show an hour from promised delivery time? What's not to like about a place that has pretty basic American menu, yet flavorful with their own twist. I enjoy coming here on days I didn't pack a lunch or dinner as it is conveniently located to my work. The food is always hot, fresh, and prepared quickly. During the lunch hour, they are the most crowded, but you can order ahead or just wait in the short line. The employees always look like they are working hard to provide good service. This use to be one of my favorite go tos before covid hit, haven't come in a while. One of my favorite things to order is the uptown turkey with no tomato and a cup of loaded potato soup and with a arnold palmer. Stopped in today and ordered the usual. Sat at a table and noticed so many dirty tables with plates piled high. Looked like they had been sitting there for quite awhile. My food came out and it was really sloppily put together. Didn't look too appetizing to be honest but it ended up still tasting good. I asked the gentleman for a side of the bread that comes with the soup, he came back with it wrapped in a piece of wax paper. I actually appreciated that because I would have looked at him funny if he brought it out with his bare hands. When I opened the bread up it had some sort of green stuff on it, for second I thought the bread was moldy but I realized it was just avocado. Kind of turned me off when I seen it so I just put the bread off to the side and didn't eat it. The place was relatively empty at first but as I sat there and ate more people came in. I couldn't help but notice that they looked like they were very understaffed which was probably the reasoning for all of the dirty tables. Kind of a catch 22 because when I thought about it, I actually felt kind of bad. I know with the current times that we're currently in, a lot of places are very understaffed. The lid for the backed potato soup had residue from Big Al's Chili. Did Corner Bakery really give me a used lid or did it just brush against the chili? Who knows? Came here to get a small hot chai tea at around 8:45 am on a Thursday. There were lots of workers bustling about, getting ready for the day's deliveries. Plenty of seating, cool music playing, and quite a few customers already enjoying their breakfasts and drinks in the morning. I saw construction workers, office types, some guys just chilling out, and families with kids. Quite a diverse and comfortable atmosphere to hang out in. :) My drink included whole milk and was quite sweet and delicious. Maybe a bit too sweet, but I suppose they had pumped some syrup into it or something? Anyhow... a sweet treat to myself that I don't partake in every day. We ordered the Big Scrambling breakfast package for catering. It comes with eggs and cheese, bacon or sausage, and croissants. The total was $65. The serving size is 8-10 people. Our office had 10 people and this was just right enough food.. no leftovers. I think for this price this is the best possible option to get because I've looked at may other restaurants that have party trays/catering and catering companies and the minimum order is for at lease 15 people and that would cost about $200. This package is either slightly not enough food or just the right amount if you have 10 people. It doesn't come with that many items but it definitely is the one of the cheapest options out there, compared to City Kitchen, which has a lot of options and packages that include a variety of different foods. The price minimum is slightly higher for this place compared to Corner Bakery. As a result, the Big Scramble breakfast catering options was not so big after all. read more

I stopped by the bakery to pick up a sweet treat for Valentines Day. I love their mini chocolate bundt cake, but unfortunately they were sold out. They told me they had a special sprinkle bundt cake for the occasion so I got that. I went straight home tempted to skip lunch and devour the cake, but I behaved and ate my sandwich first.
