I don't usually review fast causal places but I love the tortillas here. They are made right I. Front of you if you go in which the little kid in me loves. The reason I had to review this place though is because they deliver to my office for a ton of events. We love taco bars! They are always on time, kind, and seek to know what more they can do. Costa Vida is one of my favorite casual food spots! Have you had their tortillas? They are made fresh on the spot and you can taste the difference. I don't think even my fav Mexican restaurants make them in house. The desserts are top notch. There's usually key lime pie, tres leches and flan- each are about a two serving size. My sister and I once bought all three to taste just because they looked so good (and they were!) They usually have horchata too, which I confirmed on their website is non-dairy. The food is excellent- my go to is usually a chicken or steak salad. I appreciate that you can get it in multiple sizes. The steak is nice and tender- a stark contrast to Chipotle which tends to be tough. It's a good place to go with friends who have dietary restrictions- everyone can easily pick and choose what they want. Go! Eat the tortillas and save room for dessert! read more

Basically, Chipotle but with a lot more options - I think I like Costa Vida more! They offer a different daily special for each day of the week that comes with a drink! I opted for the Thurs daily special of a small sweet pork salad. You can pick your tortilla (corn/flour/wheat) and your own meat! So many options. They also have several dressings for the salad! Save yourself the stomach ache and skip this place! It was busy in there when we went but they had a decent amount of staff working. It still took incredibly long to get through the line, and my food was brought to a back warmer where it sat for a bit while other people were helped. By the time I got the food, it was soggy and barely warm, a few bites of it was all it took to realize it wasn't even worth chocking it down. I went in and asked for nachos because the queso rocks my world, but they were in the middle of making some and it was a 20 minute wait, so I decided to wait on it because I was in no hurry. I get up there after waiting and they said since it was the new person's first time making the queso and because of that, it might be slightly different from standard. No big deal, so I order it anyways and when I pull out my card to pay for the food and drink, they already comped it since it took so long. Horrible place. I don't know how anyone eats here. They have a raspberry chicken which is just a glob of jelly raspberry sauce slapped on your chicken. I thought it they cooked it in a special sauce. They add 1.00 or more for protein to the prices showing for burrito, salad or tacos. ( Why not just put the reg price on it?) asked for extra meat it's 5.99 for a tiny 4 0z. I love coming here because the food is good. However I had the worst experience today. There was 2 people in front of me and behind me was a person and family of 3. Not a lunch rush hour. I order a taco entree and quesadilla entree they put my order on the grill and then proceed to take the next persons order which is normal for them to do. However they forgot my order and just let it burn. After the last person in the family of 3 notice I still didn't have my order said something to the staff members. They acknowledged that I was still waiting and still proceeded to let 3 more people go in front of me as the food burned even more. After the 6th person who worked for REMSA said can you please get this lady her food. They finally looked over at the grill and saw that it was no longer eatable they had to make my food all over again. I waited a total of 45 minutes to get my food. Not the best customer service. Ordered online, after I got home and realized that they charged me for extra mango dressing and guacamole, however there's NO dressing or guac on my tacos at all??? Just dry tacos. Great. They charged me for the things I requested but didn't get. And only two pieces of steak in both of tacos. Very disappointed in this whole online ordering, won't ever order it again. I've been to this place once before and loved the food. So, I thought I would bring my little ones with me to treat them to lunch. It wasn't very busy when I got there, so having my hands full with kids should've been the only stressful thing. An older man took my order. Asked what I wanted I told him the two taco entree and before I could order anything else he walked away put my stuff on the stove and walked away to the back for at least 5 minutes. During this time another coworker. (A woman) asked if I needed to order and I let her know the man was helping me. He finally walked back after a few more minutes and looked exhausted and irritated. He asked what I would like on my tacos and forgot the cheese, which is not what I'm upset about. I told him what I wanted and also let him know I'd like to get 2 kids quesadilla meals as well. At no point did he ever ask me if I wanted anything else before he walked away for that long so it shocked me when he smiled and told me "you should've told me that before", then proceeded to announce to every coworker that I didn't tell him I wanted something else so that everyone else was now annoyed with me including the people in line. Meanwhile, I'm holding my toddler and trying to keep my other two close by. I apologized, but he was visibly mad at me at this point so much so that he avoided looking at me and he barely put any rice and beans in one of the lunches. Meanwhile, the woman who works there was helping multiple people. I get to the front, and the young man working the register (Gabriel, according to my receipt) was also annoyed with me. All I saw was my one plate so I wanted him to know I also got 2 kids quesadilla plates and he walked away and came back with two tortillas. I repeated that I wanted to make sure I paid for all of them and that it was on there he said yes and I told him "I just wanted to let you know that he walked away before I could order my kids plates, I'm sorry I wouldn't do that to you guys. " all the guy did was let out a big sigh and say "well it's too late now. Anything else?" I was flustered at what he just said but ordered an horchata because that's what my kids were begging for. I was so upset tears started coming down but I didnt want to cause an even bigger scene so I tried to keep it to myself and I said "can I please just get this to go actually" and all the young man said was "Yup!" And walked away as I paid. My kids were so upset and I'm mortified that anyone would treat someone like that, let alone a woman who clearly had her hands full with her children. I hope they reflect on this later with better eyes, but it seems like neither of these men had the empathy or patience that is required when you work with the public. Alrighty....I gotta do a quick update. I've been back numerous times since our opening day experience and I will have to say I am not a big fan of the food. It's just ok. Lots of sweet sugar laden sauces and tons of upcharging where there shouldn't be any upcharging. So I gotta reduce it down at least a stars level. The service however is still great and helpful and really just wonderful. Nice people behind the counter all the time and really helpful. The place is still really clean and well tended. So normally I would give them a 3.5 stars...but they get the rounding up because of the crazy awesome service I have gotten at this location every time. read more

Look, I love Costa Vida. Sweet pork nachos are my comfort food. But this location, man. I don't think I'll come back after todays experience. Dinner rush... 3 people working. One walked away somewhere. One of them is brand new- her 2nd day, they said. So it's to be expected that she's going to be a little slow. She wasn't the problem. The more experienced lady who stopped in the middle of our order to make and complete an entire online order is the problem. The poor new gal was left to finish our order, even though she had no idea what to do, AND run the register. Not fair to her or to us! They were so confused and disordered. They tried to make the guy before me pay for my nachos. They tried to give me part of someone else's order. They started my husband's order and then set it aside and flat out ignored it and helped the lady behind us. I got nachos and from the start of my order to when I paid, was 20 minutes. We have been coming here when we visit Reno for the past three years... I was REALLY disappointed this visit to the point of maybe not coming back. As my wife and I walked in, the workers who were standing right in front of us turned and walked away. We were never greeted with a smile, a hello or a welcome. The older Hispanic women who started our order was a bit rude and continued to speak Spanish to another worker while we were trying to order. When i asked her for extra cheese on our Nachos she ROLLED HER F'N EYES at us.. ROLLED HER EYES!! and proceeded to put a minimal scoop on our chip, threw them under the broiler and walked away. The visit just felt uncomfortable and a bit unfriendly. It used to be quite different. The food isn't good enough here to put up with unfriendly workers and bad customer service. I am in Reno on a business trip and ordered the sweet pork enchiladas Saturday night for dinner. I woke up yesterday morning violently ill which lasted the majority of the day. Woke up today fine (just sore muscles from being so sick) which tells me I had food poisoning. We quit going to the Sparks location on N. McCarron restaurant because the manager sucked at ensuring her restaurant was clean, her employees, were courteous and attentive, the food was fresh, and the health codes were followed. The employees often felt like we were a burden, as opposed to the source of their paycheck. The food was mediocre. We even got spoiled sour cream in our tacos. We found the Virginia st. store by accident the manager there was super friendly and had a great restaurant with very friendly employees who were super attentive and everything was in perfect order. We went back many times even though we live in North Sparks. Not long ago we discovered that the great manager had left and the manager from Sparks had taken over the Virginia st location. Ugh On our 2nd visit there, which was last night, since we discovered the manager change it is no longer what it once was. The staff was oblivious to quality control. A dine in customer was showing out the flaws in her meal as e arrived, but we decided to give it a try and hope for the best. They lost focus and over cooked the tacos by a very long shot. The refried beans were long overdue for replacement. The grilled chicken was also way over cooked and tough. The saddest part of this is that we didn't discover these failures until we were back home. Never again Costa Vida. The health code violation, and subpar food that you are selling has made our decision final. There are plenty of great restaurants in this area, and you are no longer one of them. Ordered on the app, waited until the time my order was supposed to be ready and then went in to pick up. There was a line of customers and only 3 people working. When I asked about my order, they told me they had to get through the line of customers first before they could make my order. More customers kept coming so I stood in line to see if they could start making my order and they kept making orders of the people behind me in line. Every time someone mentions how they love Qdoba or Chipotle, I always ask, "have you ever tried Costa Vida?" It's my absolutely favorite! And, it totally trumps Qdoba & Chipotle -- in my book. Just a disclaimer: I did online pick up during the covid pandemic. Normally the food is pretty decent here. However, on this day I ordered pick up at 4:45. It took a whole hour!! Upon walking in I see about 7 people loitering in the take out area. Meanwhile, the staff is serving all the customers in the regular to-go line. It literally would have been faster to be last in line for the to-go line than waiting for an order I had already paid for and specified the time for pick up. If social distancing is the goal, then this was disastrous. The whole point of online ordering is to minimize time spent inside the establishment and pick up the food without contact. They were attending to the other customers and even the order in which they filled online orders was completely illogical. The food would pile up and the staff would announce the names of people who weren't even here. Most of the orders they filled were enormous- like 5 to 7 dishes. I waited over an hour for one measly salad. Meanwhile, the rest of the online patrons waited until the in-person order line was empty. That's unacceptable. That's literally leading to a congregation of well over 10 people. Here's an idea: fill the orders of the people who are IN THE RESTAURANT so they can get the fuck out! The manager was visibly frazzled and even vented to a customer about how overwhelmed he was before making a show of counting the people in the room and ordering 3 people to leave. Again, why not just fill the orders of people who are there so people can leave with their food and you can have an emptier restaurant? Or here's another idea, list the first available time for pick up as one hour from the time of online order...that way people only show up when their food is ready. read more

Backwards. Everything about this experience was backwards. Not how I expect to feel in any fast casual restaurant, but that's exactly how I felt when I left Costa Vida. First, the menu. It's confusing because it's oversimplified. There's hardly anything specific on it, and that makes figuring out your options pretty tough. From what I could see, you can get a burrito, tacos, salad, or bowl, each priced based on the protein you choose. Then there's another screen displaying daily specials, and yet another screen which are rotating what appear to be signature items like salads, bowls, and more (none of which are on a menu anywhere). Oh yes, the also press tortillas to order. Back to backwards though. We approach and order a salad. The lady behind the counter immediately begins to place a large, oversized (freshly pressed) flour tortilla into the aluminum bowl. "We ordered salads." I explained. "Oh. The Baja Salad includes a tortilla" she replies. Not knowing what a Baja Salad is I say "No tortilla thank you." Tortilla on a salad is something I'd consider as backwards. She then asks if we'd like rice or beans on our salad, as well as what meat we'd like. She then proceeds to place a pile of all of that in the bottom of the bowl with the protein right on top, and slide the bowl down the line. So beans, sauteed peppers and onions, and protein make their way to the next person, who puts a mountain of lettuce on top, followed by salsa(s) of our choosing, a dollop of guac, and a dusting of cotija cheese, with no offer of dressing (we ended up asking for the vinaigrette, which was terribly sweet and went uneaten). The final product (large salad) was huge, and upside down. We decided we could have easily shared one with food to spare. A salad with meat on the bottom? I'd call that backwards. The sweet pork was SO SWEET and ate almost like a terrible bottled BBQ sauce. The only saving grace was the entire bottle of hot sauce I dumped on my salad, which barely cut through the sugar. Staff was really friendly, and that's why I'm giving them 3 stars. On food alone, I'd give it 2 stars because it was fine, but not good, and certainly not something I'd go out of my way for. I wish they could take a note from their competition and freshen up the menu to go along with the fresh decor. Be a bit more costal in their menu, and make this spot a place people want to come to over and over again. read more

A few weeks ago my girlfriend and I placed an order online for pick up, we got home and started enjoying our burritos. At first, I thought I may have made a mistake and ordered a veggie burrito, but after a few bites my girlfriend realized both of our burritos did not have any meat in them. We decided to call Costa Vida, and explain the mishap, which to be fair happens, especially during rush hour. To our surprise the manager April was extremely friendly and agreed to comp both of our meals for our next visit which we did the following day. This is the best burrito I EVER had and I'm a fat boy I know my burritos . I like my burritos a little on the wet side . Too often the insides are good ingredients but it's still too dry . Not at this place . The marinated meat the manager put inside this special burrito was so bomb. I at it in the car and it didn't make it home lol. Manager told me to try little sauce on the side said it's addictive . 2 things happen. First was , he was right. Second is I finished the sauce and finished the rest like a shot . Stopped in for my first time at Costa Vida on my lunch break and will be the last time. Ordered the nachos, the employee working the prep line was not wearing gloves. When the employee went to put the nachos through the heater, he was observed eating while handling my food and was more concerned with his conversation with a female coworker then completing my order. Was standing at the counter so long another employee had to ask if I had been helped. The other employee had to interrupt the other two employees conversation to tell the employee who was handling my food and eating in the back area by the heater to put my order of nachos into the heater. At which time the employee looked as if he scoffed the request to get back to work. At this point following the lack of customer service and the health code violations prompted me to leave without completing my order and ended up skipping eating on my break. Beware! Hidden prices that can add up quickly. Very limited on choices with the basic posted prices next to the items. The add-on's are hidden in the bottom corner of the menu. No notice near the menu item that upcharges are below. This is a legit scenario of an antitrust suit. It's not completely false advertising because the information is there. But would a rational person scan the whole menu and see the information before placing the order and getting the surprise at the register that his food is almost double what is posted? No, this is why they use asterisks in reputable restaurants to bring awareness to sub-menu's. This alone gets them a one star review, but it goes deeper than this. I was greeted with "what do you want?" While pointing at the menu above. Just cold and uninviting. The size of the burrito was large, but wasn't good. I mean it! It was just barely ok. I eat almost anything and large servings, and I didn't finish it by choice. I am sitting in front of sizzler right now about to go in after writing this review. It's not often that I cannot force myself to finish any burrito, specially one that cost me $16. I do not recommend this place at all. I try to be as fair and honest as I can in these reviews.
