Came with the extended family on a Saturday and here are some thoughts: Decor and service - 5 stars. The space was bright and the vibes felt on point. The staff were friendly and attentive. Food - 3 stars. Everything was okay but nothing really stood out. There were items that felt more special (pandan bao, squid ink bao, taro cake) but they were mid. My favorite was the shu mai. Parking - 5 stars. Validated underground parking - win. Overall, this place is convenient for a bigger group HOWEVER, I do think you're paying a premium for decor, parking, and location. Located in the Mariott hotel, we decided to try this restaurant for Father's Day. The hotel itself is pretty nice, very clean, and has that "vacation" smell that really makes you wanna go on vacation right now haha. There wasn't a line at the restaurant so were immediately seated. The staff here are all very nice and welcoming, they were able to serve us quickly. My mom ordered a variety of items, being the peking duck, lobster w noodles, string beans, honey walnut shrimp, lettuce wraps, black truffle chicken, etc. Honestly of all these items, there wasn't really an item that stood out to me the best. They were all pretty solid, but if you're expecting from a nice restaurant to serve "elevated chinese dishes" it doesn't really taste that elevated haha. For example, the black truffle with the peking duck. It looks more like a gimmic and to make it look "fancy", but I feel the black truffle doesn't really do that much. I would say you can probably taste the black truffle a bit more with the chicken, but nothing too special tbh. I probably liked the honey walnut and the string beans the best. They are classic dishes. I would say the lobster here is a bit meatier than most chinese restaurants that we had recently. Although, the noodles itself are quite oily. Overall, the price does not really do justice for the quality of these dishes in my opinion. My parents liked it though, but felt like we had better elsewhere. Parking is easy, they validated the underground parking at Marriott. We get seated in about 5 mins which is good. After we placed the order, we waited almost 20-25 mins to get all the dimsum... we needed to ask for waiter about where is our food. The restaurant tends to be on the fancy side, the decor is nice and I think the food taste soso and the cheapest dimsum cost $8.00 which I expect a better quality. My friend invited me to a dinner here and everything was so good! They not only have dimsum all day along with various dishes, but they also added carpaccio to their appetizer menu! It was delicious! So were the shishito peppers! The French style diced beef was so tender and flavorful. Hubby really liked the vermicelli with beef and pickles, pickles were so good! So was the crispy layer! I really liked their spicy wontons and of course salted egg shrimp. The dessert was delish! Loved golden lava bun and bunnies! Will definitely be back! I'm eyeing the oxtail and whole pumpkin, lobster salad and Peking duck 2 way which you need to order a day ahead. The dim sum was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. We ordered a variety of dishes and loved every single one of them. Highlights include the crispy sesame balls with lotus paste, pan-fried taro cake, silky shrimp rice noodle rolls, juicy siu mai, tender pork ribs, and flavorful chicken feet. Excellent and attentive service. Even though it is inside a Marriott, the decoration is open, airy, and clean: totally a destination restaurant. All the food is well prepared, most of the dim sum could ya e used a little more time. Many classic dim sum we thought was meh turned out to be fantastic reheated: so they had excellent ingredients and technique, but just need to exchange speed for quality. The stewed duck was the best dish we had ordered there. Would look forward to returning. read more

What a great evening at Crystal Palace inside the MPK Marriott Hotel! They've taken over the space previously run by Chef Tony, and honestly, the new experience is just as impressive--if not better. The ambiance was beautiful and inviting. Every dish I tried was spot-on and full of flavor. The menu has a great variety, and everything felt like elevated comfort food. Some of my favorites were the truffle salmon carpaccio, the crispy noodles with stir-fried beef, and the caviar siu mai--all packed with bold, rich flavors and plated beautifully. There's nothing I can criticize about this restaurant. The service is fantastic. The waitstaff are very friendly and considerate. They moved some chairs out of the way to fit our stroller. They were also helpful in explaining the ingredients in the food when we wanted to try giving some solids to our son. The food is also exceptional. Even though it's a bit pricier than other restaurants, I think the price is justifiable considering the quality and quantity. Their peking duck is really good, along with the soup. If I ever had to introduce friends or important people to Monterey Park, I would definitely take them here. I would also come back myself. read more

I am a frequent visitor to the San Gabriel Valley area and have been to several great dimsum places that came highly recommended by relatives that live here. Before arriving in LA, I had done some research on Yelp to look for new dimsum restaurants since I wanted to try something different from what I had before. The reviews were mostly positive, but the negative and lukewarm reviews, plus the fact that it was fairly new and located in a Courtyard Marriott kinda intimidated me. Nonetheless, I invited a couple of friends and my mom to check the place out and I'm so glad I did! The menu had traditional dimsum items that were served with a little extra flair. Flavors are exceptionally exquisite and seasoned perfectly. We ordered 16 items and the price was very unexpectedly reasonable for me. Service was great - with all of the staff being very professional and pleasant, taking the time to engage with us and providing great care in their manner of doing their work. It is recommended to make reservations, especially on weekends, just to be sure you can get a table since it can get pretty crowded. Takeout orders can be done online, however their website only has a select number of items available on the website as opposed to the actual printed menu. Calling in is another option, but not recommended during busy hours. I did an in-person takeout order instead, and waited for about half an hour for it to be ready. Complimentary parking is available on the opposite side of the building for their customers with a limited number of spots, but if you do have to do paid underground parking, the restaurant does validated parking. Overall, I highly recommend checking this place out at least once. I'm more than likely returning with more of my family for dimsum and their other menu items in the near future. read more

The sticky rice had little meat compared to other dim sum restaurants, despite having one very thin slice of abalone in the middle. The shrimp roll and chai siu bao were decent. read more

It's okay. Garlic noodles were pretty bad with canned Parmesan type cheese. Texture was not good. Kids did not even like it. Other common dim sum dishes like char siu bao, chicken feet, cherng fun, shumai, har gow were not any better than other rolling cart places. The gold foil salted egg bun was good but not super exciting. Mom said the turnip cake lo bok was better than other places. I won't be going back at those prices. But it was nice to have a meal in the hotel. They validate for free parking for at least 3 hours in the underground parking. read more

The food at this newly opened restaurant is not bad, but my main concern is with the management. When I walked in, the first thing I noticed was the manager--a skinny guy with glasses and spiky hair. I've seen him managing other restaurants before, and all of them eventually closed. His signature poker face hasn't changed, and under his management, it's no surprise the service is lacking. The dim sum came out very slowly, and the large dining room was clearly short-staffed. The employees seemed untrained, mostly middle-aged people who looked like they just needed a job rather than hospitality experience. Overall, I have a feeling this place may also close once the initial hype dies down. read more

First: The food is excellent, comparable to an upper-echelon restaurant in Hong Kong. There is nothing to pick on is that the Chow-chiew dumplings can use more Five-spice powder. The fried glutinous rice was delicious and not oily like oil-rice. In any case, this is the best Cantonese food I have had in LA area. The service was what brings the rating from a 5 to a 3. We had a party of 14 in the room, which was elegantly decorated and well insulated from the hobnob outside. The food total was over $700 and a 20% service fee was automatically tagged on. So for $140 of service fee over two hours, or $70 an hour, I thought we deserved, but did not get: 1) Ladling the soup into individual bowls, 2) Frequent changing of plates 3) Topping up of tea and hot water without asking 4) Dividing and serving of the $120 steamed fish 5) Visiting by waiter or manager to make sure everything is fine The final removal of a star is for the lack of dedicated WC. The patrons have to use the WC in the hotel lobby. And for some reason, the Men's room was closed for cleaning during a Sunday lunch rush. read more

Good overall dim sums inside Monterey Park Marriott Hotel. You can tell their dim sums were done with more TLC with fresher ingredients than others. Reasonable price considering the quality & location. My favorite is their Siu Mai, rice noodle with beef, braised bean curd roll is not my type of fillings and the curd skin is a little thick. Would appreciate their chicken feet fried a little longer before steaming and stronger seasoning. Very polite & attentive staff - older folks should remember them in their wills. 4 stars for aspiration and creativity. Remind me of The God Of Cookery ( Stephen Chow 1996), the abalone sticky rice has no abalone taste, the scallop in scallop shumai must be on vacation. It is nowhere to be found in shumai. It should have been placed on top visible to my eyes and hungry mouth. The house special fried rice is nothing special. Would have been sparkling flavorful if fried with bbq pork. The tea cup is stained with yesterday tea stain. Nasty. Let's say this is not a cheap place for dim sum and I expect a little more for the money spent. Next time I hope I can rate you a 5-star review. read more

Had our family Thanksgiving dinner with King Crab Meal (3 dishes) and their Duck Meal (3 dishes plus a coupon for free one next time) plus a beef steak with king mushroom. We were all impressed with the food and cooking. King Crab Meal 1. Steamed legs with garlic, very fresh, meaty and just right, not over-cooked. 2. Salty egg yolk stirred fry crab chunks, very fresh and tasty. 3. Crab meat fried rice, perfect to eat with the rest. Duck Meal 1. Sliced duck skin over fried bun with truffle. 2. Diced duck meat lettuce wrap 3. Duck soup with mushroom, tofu and green. Soup is kind of plain comparing with other tastier dishes but perfect balance. Beef with king mushroom has quality beef chunks and tastes great. Service - very attentive and courteous Ambiance - very classy, clean, bright and they checked with us constantly to make sure we are comfortable with the A/C. Unfortunately, I didn't take pictures as I don't normally write review unless it is very good or very bad. Plus I was busy with my hands eating the crab. OMG it is one of the best in L.A. if not the best these days. It is a great discovery since many good restaurants were gone after COVID. I am not sure if it is due to being Thanksgiving and they are not too busy. My impression for dim sum was just ok last time on weekend. I think when they are busy, service is below par. I will be back for dinner for sure again! Special note about the king crab and lobster, they don't cheat on the weight, I like the fact they are honest unlike others. Everything was really good. The har gow, siu mai, and sparerib in black bean sauce were super fresh. The deep fried pork dumpling and shrimp rice roll are our usual dim sum must have and they didn't disappoint. We don't usually order fried rice with dim sum but we did this time and it was surprisingly flavorful. We had made an online reservation for a party of 10 for 12pm and had received the online confirmation the day before. However, when we arrived at the restaurant (everyone arrived 10 minutes early), the receptionist (AKA the manager) rudely and unreasonably denied us of our reservation, simply stating that 'there is no table available' and that they do not accept Google reservation. Our party name and party number was clearly written on his list when we arrived, so he was very well aware about our reservation beforehand. When we showed him the online confirmation receipt, he continued to mistreat us without any words of apology or explanation. We had two 85+ year old elders who had been waiting this whole time, and by 12:35pm we had to leave and switch to another restaurant because everyone including the elders were starving. Everyone was appalled at how we received such rude, unprofessional and unfair treatment from a restaurant that is under the well-known Marriott group. We were all very disappointed. read more
