Dad and two boys 8 and 10 walk into a mexican food place. 2 sodas, cheese burrito with beans and rice (kids plate), 2 pork taco lunch special, and a taco salad with a water. $37 so $42 with tip. OUCH!!! To make things worse, the beef in the taco salad was way to salty and the food in general was, well, horrible mexican food. Sad to see such an old Fresno family go down. When I was younger this was one of my dad's favorite haunts, so we would frequent this place weekly. It sent me mixed messages about my ethnicity...I knew we were Japanese, but I didn't understand why we were always eating Mexican food. This is quite a family tradition - Cuca's actually won my heart in China Town, and I'm glad they're in the Tower now. The great Mexican food tradition is carried on - I love their machaca, and tamales. Their ground beef is a little on the saucy side, and sometimes you have to ask for attention from the wait staff even when they're slow. read more

Favorite Mexican food in Fresno. Great tower charm

It's been awhile since I have eaten in the Tower and I was looking forward to this. The waitress promptly greeted us and took our drink order and brought some fresh salsa which is home made. It's usually hotter than the normal salsas which is the way I like it. I had Camaronnes Diablo which was excellent. One problem we ran into is that we had asked for seperate checks and our friends got served right away while we were almost 15 minutes later. Not sure if it just took longer for our orders while our friends had the special.They did bring another round of salsa and chips to make amends. If we had been in a hurry it might have caused problems but the food was very good. read more

Wow this was great! We had chips, salsa and drinks within 3 minutes of sitting down. The bummer for me was that all the tostadas had iceberg lettuce only. However the fajitas were amazing and we have breakfast and lunch for tomorrow. read more

This restaurant had by far the worst service I've ever experienced. I went with three other friends on mothers day and it seemed like there was a lack of communication. The waiter was walking around yelling orders because they didn't know what tables ordered what. This happened several times. Chips and salsa is always a guarantee at a Mexican restaurant and here they gave us a chopped up tomatoes with some jalapenos and called it salsa. The waiter was an older latino with a voice that sounded like the annoying character in a movie. He kept asking our table to bear with them as we waited to be attended. I don't see why customers should have to bear with you for good service. They took really long to serve the food and I ordered guacamole which they could've brought right when I ordered it but instead the waiter forgot and I had to ask another to bring it. The food was alright, not the best at all. My friend ordered an asada burrito and you'd think all asada burritos come with rice and beans. Apparently here they don't it was a meat and bean burrito which was super weird. To finish off this horrible experience they did not walk around to top off our water once. My friend asked a younger latino waiter if there was a restroom and he rudely did not even look him in the eyes nor did he say a word as he pointed to the restroom. For a Southern California guy, it's hard to find a good mexican joint when you have been eating near-authentic food in a place that shares a border with Mexico itself. I tried this place with my family and it's pretty decent. The chips were a little stale compared to what I am used to, but the Chile Relleno (not sure about the spelling) is good. read more

Mexican food is my all time favorite and this little shop does really well... sometimes. We've eaten at Cuca's several times now and the experience is inconsistent. The food is usually outstanding (though the refried beans are a bit runny for my taste) but the service seems to depend on the time of day and who the server is. Great service and the Chili Rellenos are incredible. I would have liked to have more heat in the Salsa but my 3 year old was able to eat it since it wasn't too hot. While this place has a charming appeal and a great location in tower, the food and service are definitely not worth the visit. Joe and I decided to try this place out a few weeks ago while driving through tower. After we were seated and read over the menus we realized we had made a mistake. Every entrée was around 10 dollars or more, and for the simplicity of the meals we felt it was quite expensive. We decided to stay and try it out on the whim that it just might be worth it. We were wrong. Joe ordered ordered the combo which included your choice of one item and rice and beans on the side. For eight dollars he figured the chicken quesadilla would be a good option. I went with the appetizer sampler, which came with mini quesadillas, taquitos, chimichangas, and tostadas. The waitress brought us our food after what seemed like 30 minutes, and it was at that point that we decided we weren't coming back to Cuca's. Joe got what seemed like a kids' meal. Measly portions, and a tiny cold quesadilla. They honestly make them better at Del Taco. My sampler platter was okay, the tostadas were very bland, as were the quesadillas. Ordered a "plain" chicken burrito with no guac, to go. Picked it up and drove home only to find it had a bunch of chili Verde over the top which I assume had been there a while because my tortilla was mush, and 2 gigantic scoops of guac. Inside and out. Maybe it was my bad for not checking, but I didn't think it was difficult to put chicken, beans, rice and sour cream into a tortilla. Keep walking. My wife and I stopped there on a "drive by" the other night. We were not impressed. Although the service was great the food stunk. Sweety ordered her standard Chili Colorado. We moved to the area two weeks ago and we've been to Cuca's about 4 times for breakfast. It's soooo delicious!!!!! The food has a lot of flavor and the corn tortillas feel and taste like they're home made. Their salsa's are really tasty and chips are always nice and warm. Customer service is also great. I have to say I use to be a big fan of this place until today. I ordered my food and what came out should never be served in a restaurant. It did not taste like steak rather, meat that was over heated in the microwave leaving it rubbery and gross. Instead of the server being understanding he got upset and asked if I wanted something else to eat, I picked another dish that I have order before and it tasted like really old meat thrown in the microwave and tasted like old beef jerky. In the end my appetite was gone and the server brought the bill and decided to bill me for a plate that I did not eat and sent back. I told him you can charge me the eggs, but I'm not paying for the other part that I didn't touch and sent back. Again, I have been to the place many times and the food I ordered was not what they normally serve. The other plates at our table were good and I wish the server would of not acted immature and gave me attitude. This place has really gone downhill. My daughter and I go out to eat once a week and wanted Mexican food this week so we thought we would go to Cuca's. I had frequented the downtown location before they moved here and once or twice a few years ago after the move and remembered it being an ok eatery then. This time the food was horrible and easy over priced for what you get. I had the Chile Colorado ala cart and a boiled chicken taco and My daughter had the fajitas salad. The Chile Colorado tasted like out was stewed for days in mole' sauce, and the taco had very little chicken. This may have been a good thing because my daughter text me this morning saying she thinks the chicken must have been undercooked because she was feeling nausea. Went in tonight for take out, like I often do. I always have a problem with the chips and salsa. The people that work there don't seem to be on the same page as far as what to give out. I opted to just pay for a 14 oz container to save her the trouble. She had no clue what container was 14 oz. She was very rude. After I paid for the food and $3 for the salsa I left only to find when I got home she didn't give me any chips. I drove back and she said almost laughing I had to ask for them. I never had to ask for them before. This woman had horrible customer service, and she found it comical that an eight month pregnant woman had to drive all the way back. If I could leave less stars I would. Place was empty when we got there so we figured we would get served quick..wrong. We were met with an unfriendly waitress, we placed our order any way. As others came in and began receiving their food before us we decided to ask about our order, again the waitress was rude and offered no apology or even an explanation as to what was taking so long. At this point I decided to pay for our drinks and move on, after all, the mystery of what happened to our order was no closer to being solved. When I offered to pay for our drinks, the manager was also rude saying it was "on him" and finally admitted that our order was never put in. We stated it should've been obvious there was a problem after all as we had been sitting there without being served. The manager replied "well I already apologized what else do you want me to do?" This was my first and last expirience with cucas I will never return nor will I ever recommend this place unless somebody is looking for terrible service and attitude to match. read more
