We started with an order of the spinach and artichoke dip -- the dip was great and was elevated by the melted feta cheese on top. However, the amount of dip was disproportionate to the five small toasted ciabatta bread slices that accompanied the dip. We ended up with a lot of dip left with nothing to dip. For my entree, I ordered the Curio Cheeseburger, which was topped with Gruyère cheese, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato and pickles -- all sandwiches between a fluffy brioche bun. The meat was cooked medium well just as ordered. The Gruyère cheese added a distinct flavor that paired well with the caramelized onions. Overall, it was a good burger. The fries were nothing special but still a tasty accompaniment to the burger. I was excited to try the s'mores brownie for dessert, but unfortunately they were out of every dessert except for the bourbon caramel donuts. They were ok -- along the lines of a donut you'd find at a chain. The bourbon glaze and powdered sugar did add to the overall flavor profile. The service was decent although a bit slow. Overall, our meal was decent. I'd go back just to try the s'mores brownie -- hopefully it will return. read more

We sat at bar and all of the drama of their staff was discussed directly in front of us. One of the bartenders was complaining about 'what the F...' literally directly across from us, 12 inches away. The cleanliness of the restaurant was also questionable. Dirty windows and smudges on the walls. What was interesting is that most of the wait staff had idle time but no one was busying themselves to do upkeep items that would make for a better atmosphere. read more

We popped in here for a quick drink and bite to eat, taking a break from one of the parades. It was busy so we weren't able to sit at a table, but we got 4 spots at the bar. Really pretty space! The bartender was nice and attentive. I got the passion fruit mimosa, and my partner got the hurricane. The hurricane was so tasty, usually they're too sweet for my liking, but this one was just right! For a snack we ordered the fried alligator bites and they were delicious! Crunchy texture but super juicy. Yum! The mayo for dipping was really good as well. If we didn't have dinner reservations later in the day, we would have definitely tried more food. read more

I don't know if Curio deserved four-plus stars when it opened, but it certainly doesn't now. I will give them credit, my drinks weren't bad. Unfortunately for them, I went for lunch, not just beverages. It was probably a sign when the two of us were seated in an echoingly empty, over air-conditioned room on the second floor, but the reviews have been great so we ordered anyway. The staff was reasonably pleasant and the food was edible, but three stars is the absolute max I can give. The entree we shared was two scoops of tepid grits in sauce that was not much warmer with a few cherry tomatoes for looks. Neither that nor the blackened shrimp appetizer were the Gulf shrimp they claimed, and they certainly weren't blackened. The barely inch wide things appeared to have been steamed and then dusted very lightly with Old Bay. Disappointed, we had a second drink (My hurricane was tasty, and lulled me into a false sense of security) and then braved the dessert menu. Unfortunately, the bread pudding was definitely quantity over quality. It came out as two chunky slices of soft, dense, kind of cold french toast cake. Very little in the way of spices to perk it up, and no ingredient in the 'bourbon sauce' had ever seen the inside of a barrel, that's for sure. After reservations at another nearby brunch location fell through, Curio SAVED THE DAY! And I'm so, so happy we found this gem! From the moment we walked in the hostess/staff welcomed us, provided a high chair, and made sure we were comfortable with our two little ones. They even taught us a hack to turn the highchair upside down, so that the wide base holds the car seat securely -- so for that I am eternally grateful and our babygirl was nice and comfy too! As new parents of 2 under 2 on our first vacation, brunch looks MUCH different than what it used to, but the ever-flowing mimosas (+$18 w/entree) brought us right back to our roots! Lol They were perfectly portioned taste/buzz-wise My meal, eggs pontchartrain, was DECADENT AF! Consisting of Louisiana crab cakes, eggs, spinach, tomato, sourdough, breakfast potatoes ($21.50) and blackened gulf shrimp ($5) try as I might, there was NO way I was finishing this in one sitting. The flavors were delicious and hearty, and it was the perfect dish to soak up the mimosas and fill me up. Highly recommended if you come in hungry! My partner has The Royal Street Breakfast, and although he didn't love the grits, agreed that the flavors and portions were on point. Walked into this spot randomly walking around NOLA on a girls trip and was blown away. Shrimp and Grits with jalapeño, grilled shrimp and a light tomato butter sauce that wasn't too heavy and tasted divine. My group tried the hurricane cocktail and espresso martinis. Curio is everything you'd want in a New Orleans cajun restaurant. It's clean (A welcome treat next to Bourbon Street), has great friendly service, and my "Taste of Nola" entree was pretty awesome. They served us a free appetizer too for checking in on Yelp which certainly didn't hurt. My only critique is that the entrees had pretty small portion sizes, particularly their "Taste of Nola" which just had four small sample bowls of rice and protein. This was a bit saddening due to the reputation of cajun food, not to mention French Quarter tourists could probably use a little more substance before their big night out. read more

I came here 3 times on my 4 day trip in New Orleans. One happy hour, one evening drinks and one lunch. Happy hour - pretzel is super good, the cheese it's paired with is amazing. If you can sit upstairs outside on the patio, try to do so. Lunch menu has lots of options- we loved the burger, Cuban sandwich & the alligator poboy. Gave me a little taste of my child hood. Growing up in southeast Texas I lived off these staple dishes, and they tasted just how I remembered. Overall, this place was way more than we expected for something that we didn't plan out, and just ran across last minute. The experience was a bit of roller coaster of good and bad. We came on a Sunday brunch and got seated pretty quickly, which was great since we all needed to catch flights in a couple hours. We sat down waited for a water for almost 20 minutes to show up. We ordered Bloody Marys and Mimosas respectively and some water. This proceeded to take another 30 minutes and still had not recieved water, so we asked again. another 30 minutes go by after trying to flag down the waiter just so we can place our order. We still have not even gotten our water or drinks at this point. (If you are catching my drift on where this is going). After one more request, we FINALLY get our drinks which were meant to be "bottomless" but we were an hour into our brunch before receiving our drinks. The drinks were a little better than okay (3/5) but it was a premade drink meant for bottomless drinks, so we were pretty content with the quality of the drink. The food did not take nearly as much time, but it all came out at different times. Where the food ended up getting cold for a couple people, which is the sad part because the food was so amazing. I got to enjoy a 3 egg breakfast with grits a fresh flaky biscuit, delicious sausage. We also order the fried alligator which was surprisingly very good. However, for the people that got served cold food, they did not get to experience the same thing. This is definitely a case of a bad waiter. The restaurant was only about 50% full, so there was no reason for us to wait an hour for drinks, and I had to go hunt silverware from other empty tables because of the lack of attention from our waiter/waitstaff. Snagged a last minute reservation for a large group at Curio on a Sunday night and it was worth it! Looking for New Orleans-specific eats, we ordered the fried alligator and the fried green tomatoes with gulf shrimp and remoulade, and a grilled gulf shrimp caprese salad. All fantastic! The alligator was perfectly fried, not too heavy or greasy and the fried green tomatoes were crisp and tender at the same time. The shrimp on the salad was plump and juicy with spices that were a perfect contrast to the mellow mozarella and tomato. My friends and I stumbled upon Curio because during Mardi Gras, it was the only restaurant in the French Quarter that wasn't busy. In hind sight, this should've been our first clue that something was wrong. There was a large discrepancy between this restaurant's price point and the quality of food and service. I suppose you're paying for the prime location and the balcony view of the French Quarter, but that wasn't enough to make up for the poor food and service. Roasted Duck & Black-Eyed Pea Gumbo: I'll say this: I was so surprised by what I was handed that I asked the waiter, did the kitchen accidentally mix up my order and give me a side of beans and rice? Apparently no, my tiny bowl of beans and rice was actually the gumbo listed on the menu. I've had gumbo -- this wasn't gumbo by any stretch of the imagination. Fried Green Tomato and Gulf Shrimp Remoulade: This dish was fine. The green tomatoes were nicely fried and juicy on the inside, and the remoulade sauce was nice. The shrimp was nothing to write home about. Bayou La Fourche Omelet: The shrimp was actually quite nice, and I wish there was more shrimp included with this dish. The eggs and potatoes were super salty and were practically inedible. The toast was nothing special. Service: Despite this restaurant not being busy, the service was incredibly slow and error-prone. All we wanted was my friend's coffee, half and half, and ketchup. Receiving these three items required three trips from the waiter because each time he came, he forgot something and we had to remind him. He took an incredibly long time between each of these trips, and we could not find any other staff to help us with our requests -- it almost felt like we were forgotten on the balcony. There was also a lot of confusion over the coupon we received from Yelp for checking in. Neither the waiter nor the manager recognized the coupon and they did not accept the coupon at first. All in all, I would not come back here and would rather find a different restaurant in the French Quarter. read more

Was in new orleans on vacation and had a free appetizer from here so i decided to check it out. First of all lovely place with great atmosphere, definitely ask for the patio seating on the second floor for beautiful views of the french quarter. The food was delicious, our appetizer was the gator bites with a delicious sauce, entree we shared the caprese sandwich which was tasty but a little basic then we had the sampler which was a great way to taste a lot of new orleans popular dishes without actually getting all of them. I visited this spot while at a conference in NOLA. The fried green tomatoes were spot on! I came back again with my hubby and ordered an omlette, which tasted very fresh and the bacon was crispy! My kind of place!. When our flight was delayed, we stopped in one last time, and I had the shrimp and grits. That wasn't a fave. I've had better. The grits are way too thick, tated like I was eating farina. My hubby said his waffles were great, the chicken tenders were just fried too hard. But 2 out of 3 meals were a hit! Took a long time to get our food and it was warm at best. Ordered shrimp and grits and it was the worst I've ever had.
