TERRIBLE service!!! honestly worst service i've ever encountered. We asked for something three times and it never came until we went to the front and got it. Also the server was either homophobic or racist because he would not address my girlfriend who is mixed, only talked to me (fully white). Also got my order wrong, took awhile to fix, and after that the server never came back to our table. We were an inconvenience to them. They up charged $6 for a sauce that we didn't even order. When we tried to fix it, they were giving me horrible sass, but once they asked the higher up it was immediately taken off the bill. Never going back to this place. The food was fine, but had barely any flavor. The service made the food pretty much inedible. read more

I consider myself a regular since the first time I visited. I come here once in a while because I love their Paccheri alla Gennaro, their pasta is made in house. Whenever I go to NYC, I always stop at this place. Family Style Italian food at its finest. Today we had Chicken Parmigiana and Salmon in an amazing butter sauce, both with pasta. The food is delicious and fresh. I guess I'm biased because I was grew up a few blocks away, I have been eating there for at least 25 years. Nothing has changed, the service is always great and the food is absolutely delicious. I'll definitely stop by before heading home. Located at the edge of Little Italy, Da Gennaro is located at a busy intersection that separates Little Italy and Chinatown. The maitre d stops as many people as possible walking by and asks if they'd like to have a seat and eat their food. Not the best marketing strategy in my opinion, but I suppose it works. When we decided to try them, we were seated immediately in the outdoor seating area that I can only describe as being "on the street" under a tent. Luckily it was a nice temperate afternoon so we were comfortable. Our water arrived quickly, but our entrees arrived longer than I expected. We only ordered three dishes: spaghetti di gamberi, lasagna and mamas meatballs. The meatballs were large, but they were dry. Lasagna was on par and tasted good. The star was the spaghetti. Delicious shrimp with a garlic sauce, but was it worth $30? No. Was it because we were in New York's Little Italy? Probably, but probably the main reason I wouldn't eat there again knowing I could probably find similar italian cuisine for a more reasonable price. Service was spot on. Location was rather crowded being on the corner of a busy intersection. If you want more privacy you'll have to request a table inside and away from the street. Bon apetite. read more

Carlos is a superstar server, and for the food, we come here once a year and have so for fifteen years. I am always reminded as to what tomato sauce is supposed to taste like. The flavor never changes nor should it! The whole staff makes for a great time with just some ole school hospitality. Nothing too flashy. Just there for your wants and needs. My partner and I made a reservation here for Valentine's day and I know it's a busy night, but there was absolutely zero organization and no respect or system for anyone that had reservations. We had a reservation at 8pm, arrived at 7:50 and did not get seated until 8:30pm after waiting outside in the cold. Service was very slow throughout which at first we accepted because of the customer flow, but we ordered around 8:45-8:50 and did not see our food until 10pm. I ordered the campanelle and pesto which was phenomenal and the only redeemable thing about this place because my partner's eggplant parmesan was completely cold and soggy. They even said at one point they were fairly certain it was frozen eggplant because the texture and flavor was so off. I am sure if we came here on a regular night, it would not be as bad, but on a special night I expect at the very least a warm meal. My favorite Italian restaurant in Little Italy. This place is usually almost always packed, I highly recommend getting a reservation here because the lines can go out the door. Most of the restaurants in little Italy are like that, though especially for New York. I would call ahead and get your name on the list and you can walk around little Italy. What I like about this place is they actually have real Italian food here. Number one thing I'm obsessed with is the calamari. I don't know what the seasoning is but it's literally the best thing ever, my first time here I actually ordered three plates of calamari between five people. The best way to eat It is to squeeze the lemon, and actually eat it with the aïoli sauce rather than the marinara. Number two reason why I come here is that their pasta is handmade. All of it is fresh so you're not gonna get that rubbery pasta taste. I recommend the Pappardelle, mainly because it's hard to get specifically where I'm from. Homemade gnocchi that actually is soft and not tough is also hard to find. Number three their sauces are also housemade and delicious. I like that the Bolognese sauce does not have pork in it. It's just beef and it's great because my friend who does not eat pork could eat some of my pasta. The pesto was just so delicious. If you are allergic to pinenuts, do not get this sauce. Number four it is very hard to find a restaurant in New York with a lot of space. I like that this restaurant while it has limited space can still make the room feel intimate and romantic especially during the holidays. They do the decore outside where you can have dinner under twinkling lights. But don't worry if it's cold because they also have outdoor space heaters. Every time I come to visit New York this is my go to restaurant. It is a little bit on the pricier side, so I only come here at least one time. I highly recommend any of their pastas specifically Pappardelle, since it's homemade. read more

We come here annually and this year there was a lot to be desired... we had a reservation for 8 inside. They started by telling us we only have outside upon our arrival at 8. We said we would wait we see that you're busy despite the reservation. They then continued to show us tables that wouldn't accommodate 5 people (which our reservation was for 5). They would add a chair to the end of a table for 4 people and the tables are packed in there as it is... We kept stating that won't work we will wait for something else. Anyway after approximately 30 minutes or so they seat us next door in this annex cafe which they said was a business they started that didn't take off so they use it for extra seating. Although it didn't offer the vibe and atmosphere we love it did accommodate our party so we sat. We also noticed they got rid of their seasoning for the bread that accompanied the oils which was disappointing. The calamari was crisp and amazing, the penne pasta with vodka was creamy and amazing as well the meatballs however were cold and didn't tasted very different from years past not in a good way. ***You should also beware that even though it's fountain sodas you are still charged by the drink.*** that was a shocking surprise at the end as well. The server did great and was very conversational and apologetic of our initial experience. The calamari and penne with vodka sauce was amazing like I said but I think we will try our luck somewhere different in the future which is truly a shame because we've loved this place for many years. read more

Small restaraunt but this place was one of the few restaraunts that was completely packed so we decided to give it a try. They offer seating inside or outside. Both seating options were pretty packed but since I'm always freezing I'm opted for inside. We sat in a little corner; it was cozy and it truly felt like a Italian NY restaurant. Very loud though. One of us had chicken parmigiana and since not one drop was left I'm going to assume it was pretty good, my husband had chicken Marsala and he said it tasted really good, I had grilled salmon-opted for no pasta since I'm GF (they do offer gf pasta but bc I'm celiac I grt scared of cross contamination) I op-ed for vegetables instead. My salmon was good but I didn't care for the fact that they drowned it a butter sauce and I had to constantly drip the grease off my dinner. Ask for sauce on side or I guess if you do grit with pasta it will consume all the sauce and you won't notice it. We were pretty full between appetizers and dinner we opted for no desserts. I had a glass of their house Cabernet Sauvignon it was a perfect blend, balanced. I would consider it a medium bodied, on-acidity. Enjoyed it very much.
