Went on Sat morning to check out pastries. Unfortunately, 8:45am was too late to get their Almond Croissant. I settled for their bacon and egg sandwich and it was delicious! English muffin was a thicker than expected and perfectly toasted with crisp bacon and fried egg. I was very pleased with the aioli, as I usually exclude any sauce from my sandwiches. The coffee was meh and we had to wait 15 minutes for our sandwiches and coffee. You order at the counter and they call your name when it's ready. The interior was dark and not as inviting as the food. We sat outside and enjoyed the fresh air and people watching. I ordered 2 cinnamon rolls to go. Taking a chance at it, as that and doughnuts looked to be the only other items my boys would want. Nuked it in the micro for about 20 seconds which was good enough to melt the glaze. Saw a Travel and Leisure article mentioning that theis is the place for the ultimate coconut cream pie, so I set a Yelp bookmark to checkit out. Apparently Dahlia Bakery saw that article and realized that they could crank up the price on that because I paid $15 for a small slice of it. $15!!! I kid you not, that's Erewhon prices (and I know because when I lived in LA, I'd specifically go to Erewhon for a slice of their coconut cream cake and it was $16 and I was addicted to it even though I felt ripped off everytime, but when you go to Erewhon, you kinda lose your ever lovin' mind because the produce aisle looks the way it would if you were in Heaven). Overpriced for what you get and nothing is outstanding. If you want a whole pie? $58. They know the sticker shock is severe, so they kindly have a "coco bite" for $6. How generous. Anyway, we tried that and it was okay, but not worth the hype. They have those green eco forks if you want to eat in house which is hilarious because using it on this pie made the tines crack off. At least you can't say their pie is sparing on hard crust. We also tried a butterscotch sea salt oat cookie and the the taste wasn't as impressive as the name suggests and the mouthfeel I would liken to dried grass? The only thing I truly I really liked about Dahlia is that they share a restaurant space with Serious Pie, so if you get there before Serious opens, they'll let you eat your Dahlia purchases in their dining area. After they open for lunch, there are a couple of chairs infront of Dahlia's windows and a handful of tables on the patio. The fellow who was cleaning the Serious side of the restaurant was very kind and reminded us that Serious was about to open but to take our time. What a gentleman! Dahlia Bakery was rather disappointing based on those two desserts. Maybe the lunch food is better, but I'm not going out of my way to visit to find out. read more

This one's been on my list to try their triple coconut cream pie. I pre-ordered their pie and bread for Christmas dinner. The olive, pesto and Calabrian chili focaccia was very average and a little bit too oily for me, kinda with an overly done (almost burnt) top. A bit disappointing. The pie is good for 4 people, but we were just the two of us :) we enjoyed the buttery crust and the not-too-sweet luscious cream inside. Picked a matcha donut that tasted good too. It's been a long time since I've been back for the donuts. The donuts are still some of the best donuts available along with the housemade jam and mascarpone but it has become quite expensive. The crowd favorite was probably Orange Tamarind. It is a mochi donut (so rice flour, gluten free). It's nothing like a Mochinut or those ones that look like teething rings lol. It's a really dense yet easy to bite into, much more like a creamier cake donut. I think every flavor is worth trying so definitely come hungry! However, I was here to pick something for breakfast, so I just go myself an egg sandwich with ham and a cup of black coffee to go. I've had this place bookmarked for years but have never made it in time (they close at 3 on days we've been in town). We made it today, 45 min before they closed. There was slim pickings- one everything but popcorn cookie left, got a double chocolate chip cookie, a chocolate chip, brownie and a slice of banana cream pie... oh and a matcha donut. This is a gem of a bakery - in fact, it's a pie establishment combined with a small pastry cafe. We got one of their breakfast sandwiches, a roasted beef and feta puff, and a plum and pistachio tart + some coffee. Our order was ready in just a few minutes and all of the pastries tasted awesome. My mind is blown by the thick and both crispy and flavorful bacon, sprinkles of fresh arugula, melted gooey cheese, fresh cracked egg, all embraced by the warm, mealy bite of the best English muffin I've ever tasted. It was kind of bland and perhaps a little over baked. The flavor just tasted like something premade from a grocery store or a freezer aisle cookie.
