This place is a throw back to days when a burger was a treat! This trip was to re-explore those days. We got here about an hour before closing time and the staff was busy doing their closing routines. One might think closing duties might take away from customer service, but not these 2 young ladies! They joked at each other, pulled us into the conversations and absolutely made us feel like we were long time customers! We discussed schools, 5 year plans, current movies and recent TV movies all while they cleaned, stocked and brought out a delicious throw back meal! I had a cheese burger, onion rings, a corn dog and a root beer float. The burger was really good, the onion rings were crisp and tasty, and the corn dog was a great excuse to eat lots of mustard! The star of the meal was the root beer float. One of the best tasting ones I've ever had. The soft serve ice cream with the root beer flavor created a dreamy mixture of delight on the tongue. The outside of the building looks like what you would expect from an old Texas drive in. The neon lights, car hops and people kicking back in their cars. The inside had gorgeous old wood paneling with old signage and clocks with a quaint counter, booths and a few tables. The soda fountain screamed late 1950's- 1960's. As we were leaving we spoke to a customer with an old t-shirt from this fine old establishment. He got it in 1972. He had been eating here for over 40 years. He was quite proud of his past meals here and the girls were quite proud of where they worked. Those are sentiments recent times are lacking. Come here and have a taste of the old days! read more

If this is Dallas' best burger, Dallas is in trouble. Bacon double cheeseburger was just okay. It was big, but lacks seasoning. Fries were just okay. Root beer was okay. Service was extremely fast, but all they said was, "can I take your order?" Nothing stood out to make me want to stop again...so I won't. read more

I almost never give a one star review ... hardly ever. A place has to really stand out in its ineptness to earn that low a rating. My wife and son and I went last evening and arrived at around 5:40. The temperature outside was 104. It was nearly that hot inside. We started off in a booth that was so narrow that we could barely squeeze in. I'm not that big! We eventually moved to the bar, where it was a bit bit cooler directly in the path of the A/C vent. Before I get to the food portion of the review, I need to backup. This place is in a building that likely was a gas station at one time, and the restrooms are outside along the back side of the building. When we first entered the place, a putrid aroma of sewer filled the restaurant. It was like the toilets had backed up into the warp drive! Now to the food. My wife ordered a corny dog, and was told that they were out. Seriously? They weren't doing that much business! In the end, we all ordered burgers, along with an order of onion rings. My wife and I also got root beers in the frosty mugs. The root beer was not chilled, so the room temperature root beer (hot) quickly ruined the frosty mug experience. Additionally, the Dr Pepper my son ordered tasted off. When we got our food, the burgers were all a bit on the dry side, I added ketchup to mine, hoping to improve the taste. Additionally, no care was given to preparation. They were sloppily put together. The only real bright note was that the onion rings were quite good. The final topper is this. Not only was our server filthy, so was the restaurant itself, with french fries and trash on the floor. I had been so looking forward to coming to this place, only to have my expectations completely ruined. Not only are we never going back, the health department needs to step in and shut them down. Our boys have been on a mission to find the best diner burger in Dallas. Last night we tried Dairy-Ette. We went on a Wednesday night and it was pretty quite. They do have a scaled back operation due to COVID at the moment. They still offer drive up service and inside dining. They are not doing frozen mugs right now. I don't know why I asked for a menu. It must be out of habit. I drove an hour in the opposite direction of my evening commute for their cheeseburger. As a result of my foolishness, I had to wait until the waitress returned to take my order. I ordered the cheeseburger with "mustard all the way" which translates to mustard, lettuce, tomato, pickle and onion. As I can't recall the last time I ate them, I also got onion rings as a side. I'm not a fan of gourmet burgers. Especially those that are bigger than my bite. That wasn't the case with this one. Even with the extras, the burger wasn't too big. The burger was juicy but not too juicy to be messy. In fact, I would say the extras masked the awesomeness of the patty and cheese. On my next visit, I may order the cheeseburgers sans extras. Unfortunately, the cheeseburger greatly exceeded my expectations. Why is that unfortunate? I see in my future plenty of one-hour drives during the evening commute to come here. Had not gone to for years. Stopped in today. Better than I remembered. Just basic cheeseburger n onion rings. Best in town. Rings were crispy. Not greasy and every bite had onion n breading. No pull outs or breakups. The burger was off the rails. Onions diced perfectly, lettuce was ample but not falling out of the bun like others. Meat Patty was actually visible but not overwhelming. We have been twice wanting to try their corn dogs. The first time we arrived they were out of corn dogs and told us to come back on a Wednesday because that is when they make their corn dogs. Went back on a Wednesday and they didn't have corn dogs. Staff was not helpful with when we should come back. We got a burger instead. They forgot about our order and it took 30 minutes to get 2 burgers and it was very below par. Not worth it. Sure, they have homemade rootbeer. What a find! This drive-in restaurant was opened in 1956 and it looks as if nothing has changed since then. Even the sign is original. They still have carhop service, although we chose to eat inside. The place is tiny and cute. Although it looks probably like it did when it opened, it was clean and the surfaces looked impeccable. It was almost as if they reupholstered everything in the exact same plastic material originally used. There are a couple of tables, booths that are very close together, or sitting at the bar. The food was pretty inexpensive. My coworker and I each ordered a cheeseburger, which is what they are known for, and we split an order of hand cut fries. I ordered a small homemade root beer, which came out in a frosted mug and was delicious! The food was awesome. Your typical greasy but delicious burger that you would expect from a place like this. The fries were good, but a little undercooked. They also had onion rings or tater tots to choose from. My only complaint is that the bathrooms, which are on the outside, were smelly and not very clean. Other than that, the experience was a pleasure. read more

Been dropping in for years but the posted/internet hours versus actual hours has gotten ridiculous. It's Saturday. Yelp says closes 10. Google 9pm. Arrived at 7pm. Patiently waited as staff seemed busy inside and cars outside. They locked the doors and put up a closed sign at 7:10pm. Went for lunch and although the waitress was polite, the food was overpriced and the servings were small. Spent $42.81 on a couple of burgers, a couple of drinks, an order of tater tots that the waitress described as "filled the red basket" but there were only 11 tots in it. An order of onion rings that came with just 5 and also ordered 4 chicken strips. When I asked about the very small serving sizes that were no where near what we were told they would be as we were shown the red basked they were supposed to fill according to the waitres, the cook was very rude and said yeah that's a full basket (11 tots and it was about a fourth of the basket). I did not get a picture because my daughter started eating before I could get my phone out. Will never go there again. read more
