OVERRATED! I was excited to come here after seeing the yelp rating but I won't be back. It taste like a sonic burger. I got the bacon cheeseburger.. it was bland and so much mustard that I had to remove the bottom bun in order to even eat it. The patty itself had no seasoning and tasted bland. Time warp. That's what it is. It's a time warp back to the best part of the 1970s (or thereabouts I suspect). The signs, the seating, the counters, the carport, the neon, the high-schoolers splitting a root beer float and a small fry between 3 of them... everything is nostalgia in the best possible way. I simply had to check this place out after watching some games at BL. Where can I go that yelp recommends. What do we know this place pops up and the place didn't disappoint. Dairy-ette is tiny inside and there are a few booths and a small counter area to sit down. They don't have the ample outside parking like similar competitors in the area. I had the root beer float, onion rings and the double cheeseburger. Don't judge I'm a recovering vegan simply testing my taste buds. The burger itself was very good and the onion rings were great. The basket was full and I ate every single one of those things. The root beer was like whoa. It takes you back to simplicity on a menu. Who needs all these fufu ingredients. Ya know how sometimes you can have a neighborhood restaurant that is always tasty, always friendly and always there when you need them but isn't always appreciated by you as much as they should be? That's Dairyette. They've cured more hangovers, served up more rootbeer in frosted mugs, fried up more hand-cut french fries and slapped cheese on more palm-sized burgers than any other neighborhood burger joint. For my family, anyway. They've recently recovered their booths in a kickass tribute to 50s drive-ins of old. No more saggy bottoms for this butt, these booths are slick and comfy. They still don't take credit cards but it doesn't mean I love them any less. It just means the ATM loves me more. Love the place, love the root beer but (heretical comment coming...), I only like the burger. My son had, no surprise, a plain double with cheese and bacon, accompanied by fries. My daughter had the double cheeseburger made "mustard all the way" (mustard, onions, pickles, lettuce, tomato); hers came with cheesy tots, mine with onion rings. All served by a sassy "kiss my grits" cousin of Flo, minus the huge red wig. We loved the old diner atmosphere, the root beer and the greasy sides. The burgers would good but not great. I will come back and enjoy myself. It has seating inside, but only about 6 booths and maybe six stools at an eating bar. There's an awning to get car service with a car hop. That's what we all love about Dairyette. I live in walking distance from this place and have been walking there for lunch since the age of 12. Nothing has changed much since then. I ALWAYS GET THE CHEESEBURGER (don't waste your time on anything else). The food and experience are very old fashioned. It looks like a shack and seating is very limited but I guarantee you will leave fat, full, and with a smile on your face. The burgers are HUGE...they are not stingy with the toppings either. They've been cookin' up burgers here since 1958, and I swear, the burger bun is so hot and toasty you can hardly hold it. Their fries are superb, and they make home-made lemonade and root beer! The shakes are also great... and they taste better in a place that has been making them for 60 years! The fries are a miss. I would compare them to "In-N-Out". Sure, they make them fresh, but that is the downfall. They taste bland and plain... but adding salt really did help. The famous root-beer was a big miss. Too flat, needed to have some carbonation for sure. With some fizz, the rootbeer could be something special. Service was good, and the price was great. Yes, they now take credit cards. Thank God. The burgers are great, and I will be back for them. If they fix the rootbeer and add some flavor to the fries this could be a perfect 5. This place serves a great no-frills hamburger. When I first went here, the food was reaaaally greasy! The brown bag holding the food was see through from soaking up all the grease. Okay, maybe it wasn't that bad but my co-workers and I would eat our deliciously fattening meals, and then just slouch in our chairs and become zombies for a few hours from all the artery clogging greasiness. I feel like they've cut down on the greasiness now though and the burgers are still good. The onion rings are done right. Great food, but the smell of the restaurant is horrible. I am not sure what is going on with that. Came back a week or two later and it was so bad we had to leave. I wanted to ask a waitress where is that strong "sulfur" smell coming from, but she couldn't break away from her conversation with the other waitress. Right when you pull up to the drive-in a car hop walks out to hand you a menu and take your order, but we decided to sit inside and get the full experience. First off, this place is CHEAP! I was very impressed by how inexpensive it was. We fed 3 people for $20. I am a huge patty melt fan, whataburger is the best but Dairy-ettes was as good if not better! A perfect amount of grilled onions and the sauce was delicious. Also came with a thick patty that was the perfect amount of meat. The fries were perfectly crispy and the onion rings didn't fall out with every bite (which I consider a success at fast food restaurants). This took me back many years in many ways except one. First, the food! It was old school from the frozen mugs for the root beer floats the the best darn burger and chili cheese tots I've had in years. Literally woke up the next day craving more. Yes it was that good. The place is simple and old school as well. The waitress was accommodating and polite. Now for the bad.... It was filthy. I mean dirty and sticky tables. Floors had trash everywhere. The seat we ended up in was torn up. Everyone who came in while we were there had a look of disgust from the filth. So the experience was not what it could have been. There were some folks in there 70s who commented on how bad it looked and from the discussion they had been coming there a long time. Bottom line I'll go back. But rather disappointed that the mediocrity is alive and well in what could have been 5 stars and more if they would allow it.
