I've been waiting for them to open! LB needs more dumpling establishments! But what really drew my interests were the noodles. These definitely have a fresh, el dente taste to them. The pork soup dumplings were tasty, but we really enjoyed the short rib Dan noodles and oxtail soup. The short rib in the Dan noodles were super tender, even though we did takeout. When I need a comfort food go to, this is my favorite place. I usually go to the one in Marina del Rey but the other locations are great as well. I've tried almost every dish and they are all great. The service is quick and I never have an issue getting a table. The best Chinese food in Long Beach! For an appetizer, I got the scallion pancake. It was light, crispy and the dipping sauce went great with it. I tried both the chicken and pork XLB. Both were juicy and full of flavor. Also, I ordered handmade pork and shrimp dumplings in chili sauce. Super yummy! The chicken dan mein noodles were tasty and the string beans with garlic were amazing. I also got fried rice with pork and spinach with garlic. Both were delicious and I forgot to take pictures of them because I was enjoying the food so much. I highly recommend this restaurant and the staff was super nice and friendly. First impression - I liked the clean industrial atmosphere with lots of glass, fits the "modern" part of their name. My bf and I got seated and served quick, and we got a quick little run down of the condiments. For appetizers, the cucumbers and popcorn shrimp were too notch - the cucumbers are spicy but it was the bf's absolute fav, crunchy and refreshing, and the popcorn shrimp was my own fav. Shrimp was not overly coated, crispy and loaded with flavor. The sauce was a little spicy but when food tastes good, I eat it anyway. The fried rice was perfect, it's hard to go wrong with fried rice but here's another perfectly tasty fried rice spot (and it's also not spicy, a huge plus). We also got the three flavor chicken, very flavorful and goes well with plain white rice. Bit spicy though. I love rice. There's also the xiao long bao - dupe of DTF without the long wait times. Food is decent but Service for to go order sucked, one of the employees was rude when he took my phone order. I felt bad thinking he was crazy busy at the restaurant. I get there to pick up my food about 25mins later and the whole place is empty not a soul inside except for the staff! And I deliberately looked around every customer area nook and cranny and I didn't find a single patron seated. This was about 3pm on a weekday I paid and left. This was my second time getting food here. The first time I ate at the restaurant and service was on the slow side but helpful when we got the server's attention. That was a Saturday but again it was pretty empty. There were 2 other tables with patrons. I don't love having to wave down the server for help at all. Tried the Long Beach location for the first time this weekend. The place is in a good location in the new PCH and 2nd mall. Friday at 5:30 there were a lot of open tables. It's a good vibe inside. My wife and I split the cucumbers to start, the spicy pork soup dumplings and the Dan Noodles with steak. You must get the cucumbers! By far the cukes were the best of the meal! Dumplings were good but not amazing. For me the noodles were a little too sweet and needed some fire. We got some chili oil to add but that wasn't quite the right fix. The best thing about the meal (other than the cukes) was the service. Timely, attentive and VERY friendly (not in a bad way)! read more

Just went to the Pasadena location and was disappointed. I just want to commend this location on how consistent the cooks are, as well as the service. Not to mention how nice the restaurant and ambiance is. My boyfriend and I always go to this location and love the spicy XLB, pork XLB, fried rice, green beans, and Dan mein. Stopped by on Labor Day with my friends and oh my god, the food was beyond amazing. The manager stopped by our table, said his name was Tai, and welcomed us. He recommended trying out their new chili oil dumplings and pork chop. We only tried the chili oil dumplings and they were so juicy! We even ordered another one after eating the first one. Our server Mary was very nice, attentive and refilled our drinks often. For a first time visit, it was a good experience even though it was a holiday and much busier. read more

Let's give the other reviewers the benefit of the doubt, I guess they may be eating at Michelin restaurants pretty frequently :) I ordered the spicy pork soup dumplings, pan-fried chicken dumplings, broccoli & garlic, and salt & pepper tofu. Everything I had was cooked perfectly and the taste was very good, exactly what I was expecting. The soup dumplings were some of the best I've had; I've had my fair share of nearly-soupless soup dumplings and if that's also your experience, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the ratio of soup:filling. Otherwise, everything is exactly as described and honestly matches the vibe: I went after lunch on a weekday so it was quiet enough (for a busy plaza), clean, spacious, really a no -frills-type joint. Went for lunch on a Tuesday right when they opened. We were able to get sat quickly and order right away which was nice being on a lunch timeframe. They are now serving lunch portions (not sure how long they've been doing this but it was new to me) which had a great option for eating a bit lighter with smaller portions. We ordered a mixed of lunch and dinner portions to suit our needs. The food was delicious, fresh and hot. Highly recommended the short rib Dan mein! The restaurant was pretty empty during our visit. Looks like a few tables on the patio and eventually two other tables sat while we were eating so it was quiet and clean. However, I did visit the women's restroom before I left and it was not very clean at all especially considering we were some of the first and only people in the restaurant so far for the day. I are here with my husband a couple weeks ago. It was our 2nd time here. We really enjoyed the food and the waiter had really good recommendations. However this time, they were very short staffed. The worst part of it was I ordered the oxtail noodle soup and a couple other entrees. We finished everything except the soup so I brought it home for my son. Later that night, my son and I had the worst food poisoning we had ever had. I almost went to the ER at midnight, because I was so sick. My son was sick for days after because he ate a lot more than I did. We called the owner to notify them as well as the City Health Department. The owner wasn't very concerned on the phone so I figured I needed to notify the Health Department so it wouldn't happen to anyone else. Wow! It's been a long time since I've had a dish that tasted as good as the Dan Mein noodles. The noodles were such a perfect chewy texture and the sauce was so good.
