I had been really looking forward to trying this place after hearing so much about it and seeing all the positive reviews on Yelp and Google. Unfortunately, the experience fell flat. The service was disappointing--staff seemed unfriendly and visibly annoyed when we asked questions or made simple requests. The chicken itself didn't live up to the hype. It was just average--bland, fried chicken that lacked flavor. Even the Dang sauce didn't stand out. On the bright side, the location is convenient, right next to a beer bar with plenty of seating, and it's pet-friendly, which is a plus if you're bringing your fur babies.

NOT JUST THE NAME! The food here is truly hot, so get ready to grab a beer to go with your meal. Ordered the chicken (level 2 - med) and the spicy&cheesy fries with a side of signature sauce plus ranch. YUM but even the fries aren't kidding with some spice. Flavors were great, sauces were a cooling accompaniment, and it's a perfect truck for a beer garden! Glad I got to try this place finally, but even being a "fan of some decent spice levels", I may have to stick to the JUST cheesy fries next time!

SERVICE/AMBIANCE: Dang Hot 89 is a food truck. There is plenty of parking, but there's no actual seating. There is an adjacent bar where you can sit and eat the food. It took around 25 minutes for the food to come. FOOD: I ordered the spicy bone-in fried chicken and my friend ordered the mild fried chicken sandwich. The flavor was good, but it was a bit greasy. In addition, most of the flavor was in the skin rather than the actual meat. I feel bad for giving restaurants a low rating, but it would be remiss if I left this part out. We both felt sick when we got home. I had abdominal cramping and diarrhea and my friend threw up.

I've tried the top Nashville hot chicken spots in Austin and this one takes the cake, BY FAR. I was doubtful at first (how good can fried chicken be), but I quickly became a believer. This chicken is fried fresh, the breading is beautifully done with amazing crisp and mouthwatering hot chicken spices. I love the homemade dipping sauce and the coleslaw. I ordered medium spice which I thought was a good level for me. Be patient as they have a small team. I recommend ordering ahead. On the table : - bone-in chicken (thighs, drumsticks, wings) $14.89 - fried chicken sandwich (comes with fries) $13.89

We ordered to go just in case because we order about 40 minutes before closing but arrived in time to hang out on the Celis patio and eat our food! Service was quick and super friendly! Food is amazing - I think the medium 3 chicken tenders are the star! My fiancée got the hot 3 wing combo and he was definitely feeling the heat lol but the chicken tenders are perfectly breaded, sauced and the size is insane!! We probably could've shared an entree because we definitely took some home. The coleslaw is delicious and the dang dip is so good. We got the cheesy fries which were perfect side to spicy chicken lol Overall we loved everything!! Highly recommend this place for fried chicken!!

Nut allergy friendly: I didn't ask but everything I had was good. Dang Hot 89 is a little gem of a food truck in a park of other food trucks that, if you sit and watch closely, always has people walking up to it. If you try it, you'll understand why. It is definitely a candidate for the best Nashville hot chicken in Austin. I had the Hot version of the chicken sandwich, which I didn't find to be that spicy despite it being the second from the top tier. I really appreciated that it came with fries, though you do have to order sauce separately. For the value, you get a nice serving of crispy fries and an absolutely massive sandwich. It's a real bang for your buck since the chicken is also crispy, juicy, and flavorful. The little touch of pickle and cole slaw is enough that the bread stays intact and doesn't interfere with the spices of the hot chicken. Other chicken sandwiches get soggy and messy, but this one somehow keeps it together. Overall, solid at a great price point. As this truck is a one-man show, ordering near closing time or during peak lunch hours may lead to wait times of up to an hour. Order early!

Tender sandwich Medium spicy. I think the Bonesless Chicken Sandwich was better between the two.

Their fried chicken game is strong. The spice levels seem pretty well calibrated with other Nashville-style hot chicken restaurants. If you're getting a sandwich, I recommend the Boneless Chicken Sandwich over the Tender Sandwich. Order in advance on the website. They can sell out on some days and other days may only have one person working both the kitchen and cash register, so things can get backed up. The fries are really the star. If you like crispy crinkle cut fries, this place is for you. And don't forget to order a side of their dang dip ($1.50 extra at the time of this review). Outdoor seating at wooden tables under a canopy of trees.

We live down the road and stop by this area sometimes for coffee and plants. So we are thrilled that this delicious food truck has been added to the neighborhood!! Stopped by a few weekends ago for the chicken tender sandwich. Food took a minute to get to us. But it was worth it!! Got the mild or medium and my mouth was tingling by the time I reached the bottom of the plate. Which was nothing compared to my friends, who went with the D1 chicken, dang hot (hottest level) and were blowing their noses the whole time! Their food came with an orange sauce similar to Cane's sauce, also good. As others mentioned, we too saw a couple items on the menu that had already run out by late afternoon. But this place is worth a visit! For sure plan ahead and set aside some extra time when you stop by. The one man working and running the whole truck is so sweet, he made sure to ask us how the food was and if we needed anything else. For me, this energy is everything. Support this local chicken spot!!

Tenders - these were good. I recommend getting these over the boneless thighs.

The main takeaway here is that their QR code menu/ordering site is apparently not always up to date with in stock/out of stock items and the people working will not just offer that information to customers standing outside their truck. However, some items need to be ordered through the DoorDash app. We came here last Sunday as our first time and stood outside the truck for a few minutes going over their menu and figuring out our order. We then walked up to the window waiting for them to open it to take our order. One of the people working there was directly facing us right on the window for a couple of minutes and not opening up, so I looked around and saw the sign that says to order using their QR code. At that point I thought it would have been nice for them to open up to let us know but I totally understand if they're busy and might get a lot of people missing the QR code sign. When we opened their QR menu we saw the tenders and the tender sandwich were not available. These were the items we wanted, but since we were already there and hungry we pivoted to the boneless thighs and cheesy powder fries. When we picked up the food, my husband mentioned the tenders to the worker and was told that the QR menu is not working well and tenders need to be ordered through the DoorDash app. I was frustrated they didn't offer this information when they refused to open their window while we were standing outside trying to grab their attention. The DoorDash ordering wasn't posted anywhere visible in the truck, and we followed the only sign they had posted about using their QR ordering site. When the food came out, we tried eating the boneless thighs but it was half breading, half thigh. I would not recommend ordering these. Frustrated, we put in another order, now through DoorDash, for tenders. The tenders were pretty good, I did enjoy them. I will agree with other reviewers that the flavor is in the breading, not the actual meat. The total spent for this meal was $60.15 not including tip, which I felt was steep for the experience we got. I totally understand that sometimes restaurants have bad days, but I feel priced out of giving them another shot all things considered, so I won't be going back.

I've been hearing rave reviews about Dang Hot 89 for a while and I had to try it after they moved closer to me! Its new location at Celis Brewery makes it the perfect spot to enjoy a cold beer while waiting for your food. I placed a mobile order online and headed to pick it up after 20 minutes. I highly recommend ordering online to see which items are available, and wait times can be up to 30 minutes. The owner was incredibly friendly, letting me know my order was being packed while we chatted about their recent relocation change, and how some customers were unaware of the move due to an outdated Google listing. I ordered the Bone in chicken, spicy level hot. The chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, with a perfect balance of heat and flavor! It reheated nicely in the air fryer the next day. Will be back to try their sandwich and tenders!

So I've heard amazing things about this food truck and I finally got a chance to check it out! Per everyone's recommendations, I ordered ahead online to avoid a long wait time/sellout. Thankfully, pickup was seamless and my order was actually ready a bit early! I decided to go with the boneless chicken sandwich at the hot spice level! It was definitely VERY spicy and absolutely DELICIOUS! The fries were great as well! Perfectly salted, crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Everything was so fresh and flavorful! I took a star off because I didn't love the bun. It was solid, but I think a Martin's potato roll or a brioche bun would've really taken it over the edge, but that's just a personal preference. Overall, fantastic chicken sandwich, definitely one you should try when in the area!

oh my god the heat on the medium really creeps up on you, but it's so good!! definitely order an extra ranch :) this meal is so filling!!! i also totally forgot to order fries haha totally something to share with someone because i regret having three tenders to myself!! i'm sooo full halp me

Whenever I'm in Cedar Park, I always take the opportunity to try a new restaurant. I've hard about this Nashville hot chicken spot, so I decided to give it a go. I ordered pickup for noon, arrived at noon, just as the owner (I believe) was finishing packing up my order, nice and fresh! Fried Chicken - excellent flavor. Spicy crispy skin, very juicy chicken. I don't eat much meat these days though, and I found myself struggling to finish since everything was so heavy. Cole Slaw - Refreshing, the perfect combo with the chicken. I think I would've liked the chicken sandwich with the coleslaw on it. Cheesy Fries - The fries were crispy and fresh, but I was not a fan of the cheese. It's kind of like if you sprinkled cheeto powder onto some good fries. I probably would've preferred just the normal fries, or if they could add some heat to the fries, it would go well with the dipping sauces. Overall, a great addition to the fried chicken scene!

Huge portion size but wasn't quite what I was expecting. Salad was pretty standard but I'm glad they kept it separate so it wouldn't wilt from the heat. As for the chicken, I was hoping by itself it would be more thai inspired/marinated/seasoned but it's effectively just chopped up chicken tenders to be dunked in the curry. The curry is flavorful, albeit a bit watery, which I wish was reduced a bit. But if curry is not your thing, my friend's Kai Zabb was very good: tangy, sweet and heat all at once, so good to really switch up bites. Cousin's Maine Lobster Truck is a weird experience…read more It was fun to do once. I am probably not going to follow the truck from town to town so I never miss a single chance to get a lobster roll. * * * Cousin's Maine Lobster is a franchise of very very mobile trucks that sell lobster rolls. They also sell other lobster-on-top-of-stuff dishes. Their gimmick which I am not sure is a plus is to have no fixed location. They publish a list of places where the truck will be every week - generally one location for lunch and the other location for dinner. The Central Texas Truck could be anywhere from Georgetown to San Antonio. You can't just go there when you want unless you are willing to drive from Austin to San Antonio or San Antonio to Georgetown to get your lobster roll. * * * One consequence of being eternally mobile is that the truck has no regular or guaranteed access to a bathroom. You go to a brick and mortar restaurant - and the health code will require that that restaurant have a bathroom. Most food courts have some sort of bathroom - either one owned by the food court or one in a gas station or convenience store near the food court. Cousin's has nothing. So you not only have to plan ahead for when the truck is going to be within driving distance of you ... but you also have to plan to have done all of your personal business BEFORE you go to order from the truck. I do NOT consider this to be a positive feature. * * * There is also the issue of WHERE you eat your lobster preparation once you have received it. You could eat in your car. (For Samuel C that means a guaranteed necessary trip to a car wash.) There was almost no place to sit near where Cousins was located my day which was in the Yuppie complex of apartments near Oracle near Riverside. The park near where the truck was stationed has no park benches. I found ONE bench on the street mercifully provided by an apartment complex. Without that one bench I would have been scroodled. * * * I am from New England and have lots of experience with lobster. My personal opinion is that the way to eat lobster is boiled with a vast quantity of melted butter for dipping. The downside of a lobster roll is that the bread hides the taste of the lobster. This makes your investment in expensive raw materials kind of a waste. Mixing lobster with stronger tasting ingredients - which is what Cousin's does on the dump-ons - allows the stronger tasting ingredients to compensate for the diminished lobster experience. This is the way to go with Cousins. I did a Lobster On Tater Tots With Sauce concept and was not displeased. * * * Lobster should be boiled fresh from the fishing boat and eaten right on the spot. (For a related concept, see corn on the cob.) This is why people go to Maine for lobster and why clambakes with the shellfish just obtained an hour before the clambake make good sense. Shipping your lobster from Maine to Texas isn't terrible since the lobster is in water. Taking the lobster out of the shell and making raw ingredients for your lobster roll or lobster taco has started the clock ticking. As it happens ... The lobster gets old and stronger. This actually turns out to be a plus if you are dumping your lobster on tater tots. Eating old strong fish is an institution in Korean cooking. They like mackerel and other potent fish that pack a pow ... And aging the fish provides a taste Koreans really like. With lobster, aging gives you an ingredient that can stand up to being mixed with other ingredients. * * * This is all well and good. But it is not fresh lobster straight off the boat boiled and served in its natural goodness with only melted butter for a garnish. Some regional foods just don't travel.
