Pleasantly surprised. Mmmmmm. The soups here are not for those people who can only eat monotone soup... potato or cheese or beef broth. These soups - booooon (bun) or fuuuuuh (pho) are very rich and multi-colored. When I usually get spicy soup, it usually comes out bright red. The kind at Dao was a different version and not quite as spicy but so rich and flavorful for $8. The soups look like the pictures. I think the noodles could be a bit better. The tapioca in my drink was not sweet but the drink was strong. $3. Go to Dao's if you like adventurous soup! Food comes out quick. First off, the staff is super friendly and helpful. That goes a long way to making a lasting impression on customers. We both ordered the Seafood Pho, mine with steamed veggies, grilled chicken bahn mi and spring rolls. We both had the iced coffee, mine with bubbles. I've heard many good things about Dao. The last time I was here was probably 10 years ago and I could not say anything good about them then. Plus I already having my favorite pho spot in Tucson. However, something in the back of my mind just said I had to try it again....what if they got a new chef! So I would never recommend trying out any place's pho the first time in a to go container. But not feeling to well I took my risk. The broth was great, probably one of the best pho broths in Tucson. I can taste the beef flavor in it. (I know most places uses chicken which is not the authentic way). And with perfect pho broths, I never add hoisin or sriracha to mess the flavor. The noodles were really dry and stuck together by the time I got home, so I was only able to put half because there wasn't enough broth to cover it all. The raw beef slices were cut thin enough so when i poured the broth over, it was cooked. Thick tendons and lots of stomach lining slices were in my order but small meatball pieces :( Spring rolls were ok, which you can really screw up on. But the peanut sauce needs lots of help. Wasnt a thick peanut butter consistency or taste. Not sure what they use but it was not what I am use to. read more

I was near St. Jose' s so I came here for lunch. I and two other people were in the place. I ordered the Vietnamese Spring rolls, Seafood and vegetable rice noodle soup, and a Vietnamese Iced Milk Coffee. Service was prompt from taking the order to receiving the spring rolls. When I received the coffee I wasn't sure how to proceed. The wait person may have been the owner walked me through the steps. (very good by the way!) Everything was great, service prompt, place was very clean, always a good sign for me. Asked a younger female who worked there if they had veggie or vegan options? She stated yes, but you will need to ask since it is not indicated on the menus, good for those who want veggie broth not beef. Over all I would go bad again. read more

I like the seafood PHO it would just be better if they added more shrimp or scallops to it and less of the imitation crab meat. I tried the chicken pho and the chicken just seemed suspect. The color of it was not right and the taste was different. My friend had a bowl also and before I said anything about it she said the chicken was not chicken but some other type of bird. read more

I gave this place a shot the other day and was pleasantly surprised! I ordered my usual pho that I get everywhere else and was not disappointed. It wasn't as good as another place I go, but still pretty tasty. I also ordered spring rolls, the peanut sauce was better than I've had anywhere else. Boba tea was good, I always get the slushy, this one was a little runny but the pearls were chewy and sweet, just like I like em! Service was very fast. The thing that stood out the most is that there is also Chinese cuisine here. I noticed a dish; the cashew chicken, which is served in a roasted,halved, hollowed out pineapple and served to guests. Presentation is beautiful. I think I will try that when I go back. Restaurant is clean clean clean! Seriously I will look hard around a restaurant to see how clean it is, nooks and crannies and such, and this place didn't have a speck of dust in it. Very nice. read more

I have been eating at Dao's for 12 years and it only gets better. I have traveled to Asia many times and this is as good as it gets! The PHO #14 is my favorite. The Mongolian chicken and Pad Tai is excellent as well. I have introduced many friends to Dao's who are now regulars. I love it! read more

I ordered delivery for the first time last week. Usually I order take out, and have never been dissatisfied. First of all, the man that took my order was so nice, as was the delivery person (who was right on time...25 minutes after I placed my order). I ordered the beef pho with extra vegetables (steamed cabbage, zucchini and carrots). Everything was delicious and fresh. The broth came delivered piping hot and everything was packaged nicely. The only complaint was that they skimped on the fixings (cilantro, onion, jalapeno, lime, etc.) Next time I'll ask for extra. read more

Best Chinese food ever, try the General Taos it is the best , I've ever had anywhere

Their food is always great. Their service was up and down over the past couple of years. I heard it was because some of the servers who use to work here, relocated to another Dao's Tai Pan that just opened up north. I didn't like coming here for months because the new, younger servers were rude (the young girl was on her phone all day and gave an attitude when I asked for service...the other young servers got my bill or food wrong). I didn't come here for months. I recently came back and saw they were back to their old, friendly ways. Please keep it this way guys! Better than Miss Saigons! read more

Got the Pad Thai with tofu (instead of meat) in the special Thai sauce. The menu didn't mention that it had egg in it (which I cannot eat) and when I asked the host he was quick to write me off. I would probably rate this lower if it were in another part of town. As it is, this has become one of my favorite go-to places for quick, satisfying meal when I'm not in the mood to cook. I should note that I almost always get the bun and never touch the Chinese or Thai dishes on the menu. I lived and traveled in Asia for years and Vietnamese is one of my favorite cuisines. My husband and I were so disappointed with the food, I left the dinner table to write this review. This is the first time I've written an on-line review for anything. Spent $50 bucks for our to-go order and not one single item was "good". Egg rolls were dripping oil and mushy; crab puffs ($5) were over fried and bitter from old frying oil; sweet and sour sauce watered down and greasy; pad Thai ($10!!!!) was, hands down, not only the worst I've ever had but the only one in 20 years of enjoying Thai food I've not liked...flavorless, made with dark chicken (what?), eggs tasted like they'd been scrambled on dirty, food-burnt-on-the-surface grill, and no sauce or peanuts; orange chicken ($8) (again dark meat?) was over battered, over fried and consisted of 5 pieces amongst huge pieces of carrot and cabbage to fill the to-go box; orange beef was over fried, lacking flavor and, like the orange chicken, was filled with large pieces of carrot and cabbage (which was regular old inexpensive green cabbage not flavorful crunchy Chinese cabbage); in both orange dishes the orange sauce was watered down; lo mein noodles dry dry dry and fried rice worse than frozen varieties I've prepped at home. The only good thing was the small portions...we didn't want to each much anyways! If you're looking for a flavorful fresh Thai and Chinese options try the new Thai China Bistro on Grant. They were my first choice for dinner tonight but they were closed. Next time I'll wait! read more
