Stopped in for an afternoon snack at about noonsh. I wish we were more hungry because the menu looked great with LOTS of choices including veggie dogs. The employees were extremely friendly and I loved the vibe in there. You could tell that everyone that worked there truly liked their job and was having a great time as well as working as a team. My hubs and I split the Chicago Dog and it hit the spot. Not too big but just the right size. I think we each go 2 bites outta it. Juicy and good flavor. I think if the bun was toasted a little with butter we would have been fighting over the last bite for sure but it was just a plain ole bun. Not bad just not wowed. The restaurant is huge and has not only an inside bar but one outside with lots and lots of seating. Everything including the bathroom was very clean and spotless. Through out our trip we both complained that out of all the places we visited we did not get to try more from Dat Dog. Lesson learned......... Go hungry and go with a group and try the loaded fries. Friday night after drink dinner of choice! The foods great, the late 90's Rock/pop brings back memories, and the tip fanfare is worth a few laughs. Dat Dog is one of the places you must visit if you're in New Orleans. The atmosphere is very casual, and they're really good for sporting events. Dat Dog has an extensive list of hotdogs, but just calling them hot dogs don't give them justice. These things are huge, and the bread is sweet and flavorful. There are many condiments to choose from, and apparently the cheese fries are "delish". Come here if you want an enjoyable meal and atmosphere. read more

I've been here many times and it was always been very satisfying. It can get very busy on the weekends, but it's the perfect place for a nice Summer dinner sitting on the balcony area with a beer. The most recent time that I went I got the duck sausage and had it dressed the Chef's Special, blackberry ham, bbq sauce, bacon, and I got grilled onions instead of the mustard. It was meaty, a little gamy, smokey and amazing. The duck flavor wasn't too pronounced so for people who are afraid of duck it'll be a nice baby step into a new gamier meat. Well if you are ordering a regular hot dog the problem isn't with the restaurant. Dat Dog does gourmet sausages. The Bun is delicious, the toppings Extravagant, and the Fries Loaded. I understand you may not want all that, but for a place that doesn't charge for extra toppings, you are just doing it wrong. Look, it's simple: they have a lot of different sausage/hot dog offerings. They have different kinds of stuff to put on fries. They have beer. You eat all this stuff and you get happy. The order taker girl person was kind enough to answer some questions, like "what the hell is a Slovenian dog?" So we split a Slovenian dog with a modest number of toppings (three, I think) and we had the chili cheese fries. Not only was the hot dog the best I've ever had...I mean it: THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD, but the chili on the chili cheese fries was perfect- just the right amount of kick the right amount of "stuff" in it. Perfect! And therein lies the quandary: should I burn another meal here in NOLA to get a chili-cheese Slovenian dog? Will I see a fourth dimension if that happens? Went here for the first time today with my sister since we heard a lot about it from friends and family. Upon entering the place, we were standing at entrance trying to figure out whether to take a seat for ourselves or wait for someone to seat us. It looked fairly busy with the bar filled with people and a few booths taken. A minute or so passed and we decided to seat ourselves. We were by our table for a few trying to figure out if someone was going to take our order or if we have to find someone. Remember, its our first time here so we were pretty clueless. Fortunately, we took a table near the back by the grill area so when we saw other people coming in and standing in line by that counter, we shot up and got in line with them. I read the menu several times trying to figure out what to get bc there were multiple options that sounded appetizing. My sister decided on the duck sausage with sriracha mayo and bacon. After sometime and some recommendations from the guy at the counter, I decided on the Polish Kielbasa with cheese and bacon. We also ordered the cheese fries. When our order came out, it looked so good and tasted so! I loved my kielbasa - it was hot and juicy with generous amount of toppings. My sister really enjoyed her duck sausage as well. The cheese fries were pretty good too, but I probably would order something else with it besides just cheese. For those of you not familiar with New Orleans and the incredible amount of good restaurants with great food, this place really stands out in this category. They dont just sell hot dogs, they have all kinds of sausages, fish dogs, veggie dogs etc. I havent gotten around to trying the fish dogs, but some of my friends say they are great. For one price you pick your dog with as many toppings as you want. When I feel like a simple dog, I order the pork hot dog, with onions, diced tomatoes, crawfish etouffee and sour cream. I got the idea of the last three toppings from their crawfish etouffee fries, which are also great. Please be warned that one order of fries will feed about three people. Also, one dog with a side of fries is more than enough of a meal for most. The hot dog is pretty big too, but the sausages being thicker make for a bigger meal. I dont give 5 stars to everyone, but the quality of their food, the staff's fun and welcoming attitude, make this one of my all time favorites in New Orleans. I used to travel to NOLA a lot during the BP oil spill response, and one day I said to myself, I need a break from restaurant dining/pizzas and sandwiches. I did a search on the internet and found this little place on Freret St. Since I didnt know if it was good or not, I went there on a Sunday, and I didnt tell any of my colleagues at the spill command post (in case it wasnt good). Well, I was so pleasantly surprised, that I told all my colleagues, and now I make sure I visit them (on Freret St, or Magazine St.) every time I fly to New Orleans. If I recall correctly, they now take cards.
