If I were rating Dat Dog on food alone, it would get five stars easily. The hot dogs there are, hands-down, the best I've ever eaten. What makes them truly incredible is that we had the vegan versions! Dat Dog has three varieties of vegan dog -- in addition to their selection of traditional dogs -- and all of them are so good they'd fool a carnivore. I might add that the tater tots at Dat Dog are also spectacularly good; crispy and done to perfection. My wife and I both ordered some type of dog. My wife got the Jimmy's Chicago Dog. I can't remember what I ordered honestly. It was an alligator sausage and it had pico de gallo on it. I was most excited about this restaurant above all other places on our trip to New Orleans. I was disappointed. The four of us got a Rougarou, two Crawfish Etoufee dogs, cheddar bacon ranch tots, and a kids meal. Everything was okay. The creole mustard overpowered all other flavors in the crawfish dog, and there was no discernible sign of etoufee. The sausage was good, but the rest of it was a mess. Same with the Rougarou, the sausage was good on its own, but that same mustard was too overpowering and was all we could taste. All the other toppings were pointless. The tots were great. Service-wise, the guy at the register was awesome. Very nice and welcoming. The guy running the food was neither. I asked for a fork, and he looked away from his phone for a second, reached into the fork box and grabbed one (from the tines, after typing on his phone the entire time we were there- you know how germy your phone is and you rub your just-texting fingers all over the part of the fork I put in my mouth?).
