Bucatini with fava bean sugo and guanciale was unusual and very tasty. Their desserts were superb and refreshing to complement the meal. The blood orange sorbet was incredibly intense and flavorful - one of the best we've ever sampled. (Have had so many bad versions!) the panna cotta was equally delicious, with just the right texture and amount of wiggle, accompanied by blood orange and rhubarb bits. A find! My favorite restaurant in SF. Every time I go, the experience is amazing. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. They remember my name, ask how I'm doing, and occasionally bring out extra food on the house. The menu changes daily. The portions are solid. The price is high, but reasonable. The ingredients are always seasonal, and the staff is very helpful at answering any questions regarding the menu. When I was done eating, I wished I could have the whole dinner over again. Best spaghetti of my life. My friend and I came here for dinner and honestly, every course was delicious. We began with rose and a prosciutto appetizer. Then the spaghetti came and the real magic happened. I don't know how they make it so good but I don't want to know because I just want to come back and eat it over and over again. Had another glass of red wine with my spaghetti-yum. Came for my birthday dinner and was definitely not disappointed. Only complaint was that the server was really aggressively pushing each guest to order beverages. However, when my husband's octopus dish came out waaay too oversalter, she quickly replaced the order and brought out free bread for us as well. What great service! You Delfinately must eat here! Delfina is one of four Holy Grails in San Francisco. I'm from out of town and always make it a point to eat here when visiting. Tonight was my fourth time I got to tantalize my tastebuds with the riches of Delfina's menu. Their menu is updated daily but they do have some staples which are always offered. For starters (literally) the bread from Tartine is served with homemade butter. Tartine is my jam, but it's also the bread to my butter whenever visiting Delfina. I don't think I've ever ordered one of their staples for the main course, but twice I've ordered an Agnolotti pasta which is basically an orgasm for your tastebuds. So, if they're offering Agnolotti when you dine, GET IT. For dessert I got the "Rome Apple Semifreddo" which I had no idea what it was but the description next to it "ginger quince granita, graham crunch" is what roped me in....."graham crunch" lol. Yes please. If you want a double tastebud orgasm then search no further for the perfect dessert. Thank you Delfina, for satisfying the fat kid in me. P.S. Does Delfina need another review? It is my favourite restaurant in San Francisco and consistently delivers excellent food at reasonable prices. Do I wish it were easier to get a reservation here? Certainly! But if you are flexible with your schedule, this can be a great place for a spontaneous late night (10:30PM) dinner. My partner and I often come here after symphony concerts - and never have a problem getting a table. The menu is well organized and offers something for everyone. The prices are reasonable, especially for the quality. The ingredients are extremely fresh and well prepared. Some of my favourites are: calamari starter, any of their beautiful salads, the pasta with nettles, their signature spaghetti (which seems like a horrible thing to order but is like no other spaghetti I've had), and any of their meats (their Fulton Valley chicken is particularly excellent). The service is efficient and cordial. The atmosphere is lively and smart-casual. It's one of those places that can host any occasion. The wine list is also very interesting with thoughtful offerings that you don't normally find at most restaurants. All in all, a wonderful place for a great meal and a great evening. If you call 3-4 weeks in advance, you can book a table any time you want! They also offer bar/counter seating, which is also nice for those dining solo. read more

Delfina's pretty great. The food is delicious and the service is spot-on, but I can't give it five stars simply because I'm beginning to get bored by the same type of approach in so many different Italian trattorias. Sure, there are tweaks here and there, but really, if you're at flour & water, or delfina, or picco, or A16 or pizzaiolo in Oakland, you're really having a very similar experience with just a few tweaks on the concept. It feels like there's a bubble forming in that market and I could see it getting tough for places that can't set themselves apart. All that aside, delfina knows how to do Italian. My boyfriend and I went to Delfina one night for a special occasion after having thoroughly enjoyed Delfina's pizza next door - if the pizza place was so good, the restaurant had to be even better! Service: Poor. We didn't have a reservation and were more than happy to wait, and were told that we'd get a small table near the kitchen. 25 minutes later, we were given two seats at the bar, instead. We waited over 20 minutes for a waiter to come by to take our orders, another 20 for our drinks... I think almost an hour until we actually had our food. We felt like they had completely forgotten about us multiple times. Food: average. I had fish and my boyfriend had steak. It was cooked well, but there wasn't much flavor in either dish. It wasn't bad, but it definitely felt overpriced to us. We had high hopes for this place given how much we love Delfina's pizza - but were really disappointed. If you're looking for a medium-pricey meal with organic/local foods, I'd go to Nopa instead. read more

This spot seems more like the place to be seen eating pizza, rather than actually eating pizza. Customer service was alright and fine, but the toppings were minimum in contrast to the entire pie. Great recipes, nonetheless, but if you're hungry and expecting to get full on some good slices like you normally do, don't go here unless you're willing to spend about $35-$40 for two people. Nice snack if you've got the money to spare, otherwise, the ingredients are readily available at any nearby grocery store, and you could fill yourself up and save about $15 bucks. Pasta primo. First and foremost get pasta. Basic spaghetti is anything but. Rich in flavor and texture. Pappardelle meets its perfect match with a delicious duck ragu. Each five star dishes. Just make sure you start with starters. Brilliant zucchini topped with ricotta. Excellent grilled calamari on a warm white bean salad. Surprisingly sweet prosciutto wrapped figs. Can't go wrong with either. Think twice about entrees. Grilled albacore was good and complemented with great gypsy peppers. Chicken was bland and served with an unappealing mound of mashed potatoes sitting in a base of oil. Make sure you ask for bread on the side. It's warm, soft and splendid. No room for dessert. Fortunately nothing looked too appealing. Space was simple and polished. Server was friendly and responsive. She was quick to replace a mistake and always stopped by right when we needed her. Less than $50/person helped by skipping the $12 glasses of wine. Just don't get it. Pasta and starters are prime. Rest is secondo. read more

Delicious food, antipasti, pasta, and entree. The grilled calamari is particularly wonderful. And the pappardelle with lamb rage and the chicken agnolotti are both scrumptious. The pork entree was melt-in-your mouth delicious. Even though we were full from the other dishes, we had to eat it anyway! The service is friendly and helpful, despite how busy it was. It was quite crowded - typical SF restaursnt with the tables close together. A fantastic bottle of wine at a reasonable price. The snap peas were excellent. They were the snap peas that I know and love with a nice flavorful oil coating and a splash of mint that really gave the peas a burst of flavor. As for the bleu cheese lettuce, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I absolutely loved it. The radishes, onions, the lettuce, and cheese was all displayed in a floral way that made the presentation of the dish itself delightfully pleasing. As for the taste, it was just as pleasing as the presentation, the bleu cheese and the flavoring blended together in a very nice way with no one overpowering the other. Moving onto the entrees, we got the quail and, of course, the spaghetti. The quail was delicious, the bird was whole and cooked to perfection. It was laid on top of what I can best describe as grits. It was a bit pricey I do admit, but as a person who loves to eat good food and doesn't mind to spend an extra buck to do so, I do feel that the dish was worth it. The spaghetti was, as expected, spaghetti... but it was amazing. There was something in it that made the dish have a slight kick to it and make it ever so spicy. For desserts, we got the sweet corn gelato, and the brown sugar panna cotta. Surprisingly as far as desserts go, they were essentially what I expected. They were sweet, and a nice way to end a meal. The total for my meal came out to be about $100, but for an anniversary and at a restaurant with $$$, it was something that I had expected to happen. If you are able, save room for one of the many tasty desserts that are made in-house. I've been going there since Day 3, 'cos a friend left another, previous favorite restaurant (at the time, one of the very few cool and good restaurants in The Mission) to help open it. In some eras, I would say, it's been like my second kitchen - but really, it's been more like my first! Every visit, every item has hit, consistently, at such a high level of good quality, it's phenomenal. Was at Delfina two weeks ago for the first time, we didn't have any reservations, I was put in the wait list for an hour and a half, it was worth the wait. We loved loved the food. Had their spaghetti, the pork thingy(super delish), paired some wine with our dish, and the server Kelly was super attentive and helpful. We also had the fresh Tartine bread that is the most fabulous bread I've ever tasted. My favorite whole fish dish prior to this was at Babbo (Mario Batale) in NYC. This fish was better!!! The food was excellent, just as everyone has raved and raved to me about. I had the salad with the calamari (I believe their famous dish?). It was worth every penny. I took it to go, and even after taking 25 minutes to arrive back at my apartment, it was still yummy. Only drawback: It was my first time there, and I was confused about how it worked. It was busy busy busy, and all I wanted was takeout. There was a mass of waiting customers crowding the door. I could barely walk in and there was no where to stand. People were pushing by you left and right. The woman at the counter just smiled at me and let me stand there for five minutes looking all confused. I asked the other people in line if they were waiting for a table or a too go order, and the chorus of people answered "both." I tried to walk up to the counter and order, and I was told "there's a line." Hmmm... too bad there wasn't a line, but instead a sea of bodies standing around and bumping into each other.
