I just love this Denny's. My food is right the majority of the time, hot fresh goodness. My new favorite waiter is Frederico... He's a very nice tall Latino Guy. He's very attentive even when it's busy and the torrance location can get pretty busy. I try to give him nice tips because I know a lot of waiters and waitresses depend tips. We all have families and need our pay. But let's be honest food service ain't the easiest job, especially dealing with the public. This guy is always smiling and ready to serve. This Denny's was actually one of the nicest ones I have gone too! It was very clean, didn't smell of old carpet or like that mildew smell, and that time I went was early afternoon so it was fairly empty and pretty quiet. The food was amazing and made with fairly quickly. Service was just incredible, which I liked a lot! The only thing that was keeping me from a five star rating was the fact this Denny's was out of a lot of their condiments and some of their food items. I had to change my meal around two times all because they didn't have what I wanted. After some time I finally found something I could enjoy, and it was made very nicely. This Denny's is somewhere between a 3 and 4 star location. 3 stars because they removed the counter / bench seating which is great if you're by your self, 4 because they remodeled and it does look much nicer than before. They do have a TV but, when I was there, it was showing children's shows. So, I dropped into a booth and looked at all the pictures on the menu. You just have to love the Americana style of pictures of food with a description. Just in case the words aren't enough to get you to order, look at the pictures and see what meets you fancy. I do have to say, some of those specialty pancakes make it hard to pass up. But, alas, I did and ordered my favorite, the chicken fried steak breakfast. This place did a very good job with it. A half-a-plate sided fried steak, covered in country gravy, with my eggs and hash browns covering the other half. All was cooked correctly and the flavor of the gravy was spot on. Very good for a corporate mix. They have free refills on your soda order (a must in my book) and were attentive to take my order, bring my food and refill my glass. Came in for the Hobbit Hole breakfast for their promotion of The Hobbit. For it being a Saturday (and relatively empty, to be honest) the staff was a bit slow and would disappear. I'm not sure if it was because we were tucked away in the corner, but getting anything took a good while. The hobbit food was really good. Zero complaints on Denny's food for once! One of the best Denny's I usually go to. The whole place is very clean and remodeled. Unlike some Denny's I go to before that are just not very nice looking. Service was good but it did took a while before the waiter came to take our order. I ordered a iced frapp but when the food arrived I didn't see it so I figured he didn't put in my order. I ordered the caramel banana pancake which was pretty good. Their Bacon was a bit too hard to eat, my teeth felt hurt because of it. This is the best Denny's in the entire Southbay. I have been a Dennys customer for 40 years, and this is the best Dennys since I have been a customer. Libi is a very pleasant and welcoming server that always gives great service and timely service. If she is on shift, I recommend asking to sit in her area. Also the main manager takes a lot of pride in this Dennys. He hires the best servers he can find, and he has them keep the Resteraunt clean even when there are lots of Customers. This Denny's is the only Dennys I've seen with outdoor booths, and these booths helped during the pandemic. Finally, this Denny's has a guest WI-FI unlike many of the other Dennys in this area. This was one of the worst experiences here since the Denny's corporation got into trouble for discrimination 20 years ago. The place was semi empty when we came in. There were two waitresses covering the restaurant, about 5 or 6 tables for each. Our waitress was helpful in taking our order but disappeared after the food was served. Want an extra fork, napkin, condiments, refill on water? Too bad. Fine, overlook that and chalk it up to she forgot to check on you. Want to order more food? Too bad, eat the garnishments. Feel like dessert? Too bad. Look at the pictures on the menu and imagine what it tastes like. When I tried to get her attention, she always said she would be right back after she helped the other tables, but never did. It's not like the additional tables were needy and demanding huge plates of food and drinks. The majority of patrons were seniors and families with small children. In the meantime, we saw another waitress and host come on shift. New customers waited to be seated without being helped in a timely manner too. We got tired of waiting around and went to the front counter to pay for our meal. Guess who showed up at the register to make sure the ticket was closed properly? The missing waitress. I am not generally a Denny's fan to begin with. This location serves the greater Torrance and South Bay area when people are out late from movies, dances, karaoke, etc. I remember coming to this location when I was in high school. I'd probably give this place one star for the food, but I'm throwing in an extra one for being open when almost nothing else is. Also, because of its hours, you're sure to find some form of entertainment in the clientele. During my last visit, my friends and I were standing outside and were approached by two drunk pilots in a cab asking about burgers and offering buy us breakfast since they had envelopes of "local currency" in their pockets to dispose of as they saw fit. Walked into the restaurant and was told to sit anywhere I wanted to. We sat down and waited to be waiting on for about 5 minutes. My girlfriend was having a salad and I was having a nice tea waiting for our lunch. I want a gentleman started sweeping in between three occupied booth. He was sweeping and picking up dust. One of the people occupying the booth said something but the guy kept on sweeping. The other person yelled for the manager and the guy stop sweeping when the manager told him to stop. The gentleman and the other booth got up and left. About 10 minutes later the same guy came by and started mopping. Well, the other night, in I went, ordered the Club sandwich with fries done well & a side Cesar salad. Let's start from the minute I walked in. I was cheerfully greeted by the hostess, seated immediately with a menu & asked my drink order. Wow, I often times can't get that treatment from restaurants that charge way more. Anyhow, my waitress came by minutes later with my ordered coffee & asked if I was ready, I was, so I ordered the above. My order/request asked for the salad to come with my sandwich. Not 10 minutes went by & out they come, as ordered & as delicious a club as I've had in a while. I mentioned this later, to my wife & she said, let's go next week, she wants to give it shot. Placed an order for delivery. This was the families weekly take out order. Everyone arrived and then I received a call from Denny's. They had forgotten part of the order. I was given the choice to drive to Denny's and pick up the missing portion of the order or have a future purchase credit. HOW is that an option. Come get it yourself even though you ordered delivery or have one of your family members not have dinner. And to top it off, once the order was delivered, none of the sauces that were requested were in the order. No dipping sauces for the cheese sticks and the wings were dried out.
