Quite frankly, I'm shocked that this business received the reviews that it did. I saw a car I was interested in on Craigslist and called and spoke to Alex who was very friendly and asked me to come on down. When I showed up with my boyfriend, there was nobody there. I called and spoke to Nick, who stated he was on his way. When he showed up, he was obviously irritated that we were disturbing his snack break (this was at 4pm) since he walked in with fast food in hand. I spoke to him about the car he was very flippant about how the car was in perfect condition (despite the keyed scratches on the car, miscellaneous paint chips, etc). I told him I wanted to get the car inspected off-site at a local mechanic that I trusted. After some discussion about how I would NOT purchase a car without an outside inspection, he finally allowed me to take the car off the lot to do so. Once I had it inspected, there were some very concerning points brought up regarding the previous history of the car. There had been some damage to the right front of the car which was not in the CarFax report. There were some "racing" modifications made to the car and there was probably $1200 in total of work to be done. All in all, I was not comfortable with purchasing the car without negotiating the listed price. Upon returning the car to the lot, Nick made it clear that he was irritated that I was not swayed by the "3 month limited warranty". When I explained to him what recommendations were made for the car, he basically stated that the information given to me was obviously "false because he had the same car and this car was obviously not raced or modified in any way". He stated I would never find a car like this again and dismissed me completely by ignoring me and walking back into the office. All in all, a negative experience and his lack of professionalism made it even less likely that I will ever consider purchasing a car from here. Too bad... I liked the car but given the attitude I received, I wasn't even in the mood to consider buying from him. Still looking for that used car, but it won't be from here. read more

Unfortunately I have to provide a review different from the one I would have loved to have written. What I would have liked to have said is that my experience with the selection, negotiation, and closing of the sale of our car at Diamond Motors was so surprisingly smooth and seemingly integrous that I commented to my wife on the way home that "that experience is the complete opposite of what I am used to expecting from a used car place." Further, I told her, "I think next time we start with them . . ." So why a low rating? While the car we purchased looked fine to us on the outside, a week or two later we noticed an oil stain on the driveway. We brought it in to a dealer and --beyond several seals leaking and needing replacing-- he noted that the CV joint boots were split and needed replacement. The head gasket was leaking. The oil leak and split CV boot were easily discoverable by anyone who would have looked over time, but as we saw it in the evening in low light conditions, and after it was cleaned up by the dealer, we didn't notice those things. My question: why didn't Diamond when they accepted the car, inspected it, and set the price? Used cars from a reputable dealer are assumed by theauthoritative "Kelley Blue Book" to be in "excellent condition: excellent mechanical condition, engine compartment free of fluid leaks, free of visible defects." I can forgive the head gasket: unless it's catastrophic, it's hard to pick that up by any normal inspection means. However, the oil leaks and CV boot split are inexcusable. Beyond the 3 month warranty, limited to $1000, that came with the car purchase, the dealer offered no help. It is 'buyer beware'. So I'm feeling tricked, deceived, and a little screwed and - sadly -- they've dropped into the typical 'buyer beware' category of all used car lots. Shop around, find another dealer, or even buy from a private seller: if this dealer is any indication, you have just as much risk, and you save a bundle by using the Kelley Blue Book "private seller" price. The folks are Diamond are nice enough, but they don't back their product: pure and simple. read more

I am pretty meticulous with my research, so it took me two months and about 5 Bay Area dealerships to finally find my dream car, at Diamond Auto Sales. Being from San Francisco, I feel like I come equipped with a pretty sensitive bullshit detector. Every dealership I walked into from Marin to Hayward had the typical cheesy, grimy, I-will-rip-you- and- your-dying-grandma-off-in-a-heartbeat sales guy who knew close to nothing about cars, and had to hand you off to about five other people who are the "decision makers" in the place. It was a nightmare. Finally by some miracle of God, I found the exact car I wanted on Craigslist. The ad was posted by Diamond. Went there that afternoon, drove off with it shortly. Alex and his team clearly know their cars, they are easy to talk to and just super knowledgeable about their inventory. They're actually HONEST and FAIR (an oxymoron in the Bay Area dealership scene). Sometimes when a deal is so good, it's kinda hard to believe and a bit scary. Not with Alex. They are genuinely happy to work with you, talk about warranties and come to an agreement that is a win-win situation for both parties. We had a good experience but a few things could have made the experience GREAT. CON - Ernie is a nice man but a little rough around the edges. He would not deal with us on the price of the car we were looking at. I let him know what the KBB value was on the car and he said that he could not budge on the price. PRO - Alex the owner is great! He called me and wanted to make sure that I was happy and got the car I wanted. We made a deal and settled on a price that I was comfortable with. PRO - Alex completed all the paperwork at his office and had Ernie bring it to me at work! CON - Ernie was a little upset with the security guards at my building. I had to defuse the situation and explain to Ernie that my building requires information on those who come in. PRO - Alex went out of his way to get the information to the bank so that I could acquire a loan with my bank. PRO - Alex had his employee take a training on how to gas up the car (CGN vehicle fuels differently) so that it was full when I picked it up. PRO - Alex offered a price for my trade in and let me decide up to a week later if I was willing to trade in or if I would want to sell on my own. PRO - Alex is very laid back easy going and makes you feel comfortable and not rushed. PRO/CON - The car I purchased was very clean, but the product they used to deodorize the car was very strong! After driving home I felt like a had eaten a bar of soap. I had to leave the windows down for the weekend. With that said....I would buy another car from Alex. BUYER or SELLER Beware!!! Avoid at All Cost!! Never trade your car in or sell your car here! I still got fined and past registration fee for my old car! I got a fast trak noticed! And A registration renewal fee and the car registration have been suspended. I went back and Alex just gave me the paperwork and and say just go to the DMV and show them the paperwork. "HE TOLD US TO GO TO THE DMV" I thought you guy take care of the all the paperwork when the sale happen. Don't trade or sell your car here unless you like having fined and DMV noticed for your old car. Also Alex was talking down to us like we don't know what we were doing!! Don't you take care of the paperwork with the DMV when people sell or trade their car in! UPDATE!! For 01/24/16 the cop came down to my house around 7:30pm on Sunday 01/24/16 they pulled the car over in Sacramento and want to know if the car is stolen. Now I have to go to the DMV on a busy Monday, miss one day of work to get this resolve! When I had a Mercedes SUV that I was trying to downsize from, Alex helped me decide on an alternative, gave me an exceptional deal on a smaller sedan and took care of my trade-in at a respectable price, unlike rip off value that I was offered at a local MB dealership. Alex is very meticulous and always tries to do right by the customer. During paperwork processing he noticed that sales tax rate was recently changed in my county and should actually be 0.25% lower. He quickly confirmed it and re-did all the paperwork to save me few hundred bucks on registration fees, that I would have never noticed. Alex patiently went over the transaction details with me, explaining all the fees and the legal forms that I had to file. He was very pleasant to deal with and instilled a lot of confidence in my purchase. If I could give this dealership and the owner/employees a zero I would. I bought a car here a year ago for a decent price. The way they spoke to me at the time was less than professional. But, being ignorant, and finding the car I wanted, I bought it. Just two weeks later, the car had major issues. 1200 dollars worth of issues to be exact. New axles, new motor mounts, new cool packs, plus electronic issues. Nothing diamond auto sales could do about it according to Alex. Few months after that, water pump and fuel filter go out. Over a thousand in repairs. 6 months after buying the car more issues. This time electrical issues, again. Most recent issues I've been dealing with are a bad ABS system and a shot steering rack. No big deal right, just steering and brake system. These repairs are going to cost me in the neighborhood of 4 grand. Bought this car for 10. I've already paid over half of that in repairs, not to mention the time and nuisance of the repairs. Please, please do not support this dealership. They are scheemers, to say the least. read more
